A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

ChatGPT Takes Over Again

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 22, 2023

ok, last one I promise. For now at least. Here’s what i put into chatgpt: “SF Giants get shut out by Mets. Fans remain hopeful and positive”. LOL. Wrote this in 3 seconds.

“It was a beautiful day in San Francisco, the sun was shining, and the air was crisp. The SF Giants were playing at home against the New York Mets, and the atmosphere was electric. The stadium was packed with fans wearing orange and black, cheering and rooting for their team.

As the game began, the Giants started off strong, with great pitching and fielding. However, as the game progressed, the Mets began to take control, scoring run after run. By the end of the game, the Giants had been shut out, losing 7-0 to the Mets.

Despite the loss, the fans remained positive and inspired by their team’s efforts. As they filed out of the stadium, they chanted “Let’s go Giants!” and talked excitedly about the team’s future.

“I’m disappointed we lost,” said Sarah, a longtime Giants fan. “But the Giants played with heart today. They never gave up, even when the game was out of reach.”

“I agree,” said David, another fan. “The Giants have been playing really well this season. One loss doesn’t define their season. They’ll bounce back stronger than ever.”

The fans were right to be positive. The Giants went on to have a successful season, making it to the playoffs and thrilling their fans with exciting victories. Even though they had been shut out by the Mets, the fans remained confident and supportive of their team. They knew that, win or lose, the Giants always played with pride and determination, and that was something to be proud of.”

    Playin’ shitty
    Playin’ bad
Season’s heading on a one way ride
    Nothing Like It
    Makes me laugh
This team is gonna hurt my pride
    Lousy pitching
    Lousy bats
Lots of things that I’d rather do
    Goin’ down
    Party time
My friends are gonna suffer too

We’re on the Highway to Hjelle
    Highway to Hjelle

lulz. mlb site said attendance 27,500 announced, so in reality 20 thou tops there last night. To watch Joey Lucchesi have best outing of his career and retire 14 of last 17 batters he faced on way to 9 Ks in 7 innings. So doubt anyone was uh “inspired” to feel anything good about it. Hjelle gave up 6 hits and 3 more runs in mop up duty. League is torching this guy he just can’t get ML hitters out often enough.
12 singles for Mets and one big HR from Alonso. As Chuck said that ended suspense early.

Twinfan would have loved Sarah and David

ChatGPT knows we are going to the playoffs? I guess there ARE some positives about Skynet.

To be honest, the guy on SF Gate calling for Bum is FOS. NO I don’t want to watch him get his ass kicked around any more. It was painful enough to watch him pitch for AZ and he’s not getting any at bats either. Fangraphs rated all of his pitches and none of them are no longer very good or successful. It’s not like Giants would have bunch of gold gloves behind him either.

Z Littell sucked and him pissing off Kapler was puro nonsense on is part. Kap handled that one well I thought, not grabbing the guy and decking him in front of everyone like Billy Martin might have. On field histrionics and blowing up clubhouse or yelling and screaming in pressers aren’t going to fix what is happening on the field. Good theater but ultimately unproductive, imo.

    • djloo27 said, on April 22, 2023 at 8:26 am

In Reality ( a helluva racehorse, btw), I don’t really think Bumgarner would be of any real use to the Giants. But he’s gonna have many suitors at $700k and so many injured pitchers all over the place. I’d like to see him turn it around.

It’s time to stop over thinking it and just fire the manager.
      No further explanation needed…

This team has NO HEART,NO PULSE,ON LIFE SUPPORT,with absolutely no leadership from management to players!! You look in that dugout and everyone is hanging they’re heads in bewilderment and just don’t give a shit..

  7. unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2023 at 8:33 am

Apathy is a bad look on a team. And Yaz already called it out. Kapler should rip a phone book in half or some shit. Get these guys’ attention.

  8. Macdog said, on April 22, 2023 at 8:46 am

Even the fucking AAA’s were competitive in 2 of 3 games last weekend vs. Mets. This is so goddamn pathetic.

  9. Winder said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:21 am

I agree with loo Kapler has to go. Something needs to shake things up. Being on the board now I wonder what Posey thinks about the way things are going.

    • willedav said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:27 am

I remember early season game many years where Giants lost to Padres like 17-16 or something and mgr. was gone next day. Beats firing the hitting coach.

      • Winder said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:19 am

IIRC the 1970 Giants were a way better team than this years. I do lose tract though over the years. This years team feels stagnant to me.

  10. unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:33 am

Yep. Listened to that game on the radio driving around somehwere. Charlie Fox’s last game.

    • willedav said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:48 am

First game for Fox was next day–he took over for Clyde King after that one. Giants led 8-0 after 2 and lost in 15. May 23 1970.

  11. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:38 am

And speaking of 2 years ago while winning an insane 107 games a bunch of green hitting coaches nobody ever heard of had every Giants hitter on board swinging patiently at good pitches, what happened to that theory? One year wonder on both hitters and coaches?

  12. mrsprtdude said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:06 am

We need some optimism boyz! Giants will .500 by the end of may. Book it. Too much talent to do otherwise. I’m not sure we make the playoffs, but everything is going wrong all at once. There are god players on this team. Starters will go longer and bullpen will get some rest. Logan wins today!

  13. mrsprtdude said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:06 am

No I’m not THAT optimistic..Good, not god:)

    • sandog said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:09 am

I like it! I actually think things are going to turn around as well and don’t want to see Kap or Zaidi let go.

      • Flavor said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:27 am

i don’t get the take of “things are going to turn around.” Based off what? We suck.

  21. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2023 at 1:51 pm

I find it curious and wrong that the Mets can wear a large white patch on the sleeve which looks like a distraction to hitters, and even more they have it setup where Lefty players / pitchers are facing the pitcher and right hand hitting players have it setup on their left sleeve? Shouldn’t it all be on the same sleeve? Mets are pulling off some major BS on this! League should do something about it!!

  22. xoot said, on April 22, 2023 at 2:25 pm

We have two very good 3B, so they platoon for no good reason. Bart’s D is now excellent; his bat, …. Our bright spots are half assed. I would love to see Crawford leave his early struggles behind. My sons at the game, lower box. They moved to empty sears closer to the plate and in the shade. Like the old days.

  38. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2023 at 7:08 pm

I don’t take much stock in Bochy Rangers stomping on a AA Oakland team that could easily lose the most games in MLB history this year..

The Grizzlies are getting a harsh dose of reality tonight.

When the Gyros are down, I think back on things like this.
One of the best memories of their incredible run to the first trophy.
Sure, I’ve seen it a lot, and he did it in later runs to the trophy too, but. This was the first.
It truly makes me get fired up, then nostalgic for a wondrous time as a life long SF fan that I’ll never forget — now seems like a dream…

This whole ChatGBT thing… I don’t know. Am I just a grumpy old man bemoaning simpler days? Wish I could find it, but heard someone on the TV say something like the US has godlike technology but a neanderthal social mentality: what could possibly go wrong? I know one thing: as a university professor, I no longer allow individual writing projects (essays, reports) done on their own time outside of the classroom (even using tech like TurnItIn to highlight plagiarism); all writing is now done in class, in front of me. Honestly, I’m seeing youth seem to forget how to hold a pen and put it to paper. Kinda glad I won’t have to deal with it for too many more years. Sheesh, I sound my Father in his later years…

I think the human race outsmarted itself and there’s no turning back.
All the respect for the way you’re handling your students, Paul…

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:26 pm

Sometimes it does feel that way, Loo… too smart for our own good. But trying to keep an open mind. Obviously there are some *tasks* AI tech can simplify and produce quickly. Like Giant game recaps… 🙂 What bugs me is the sense that humans (can’t be just Americans, right?) are losing the ability to think critically and communicate articulately. Seems like artificial “intelligence” could likely just accelerate the dumbing down of America, which is already seemingly at an all-time dumb….

  42. zumiee said, on April 22, 2023 at 9:53 pm

To the Grizzlies credit they made it a closer game in the second half.

I hear a lot of Baby Boomers getting more pessimistic about things. A Boomer friend of mine said recently: “Well, we had a good run.”
We did grow up at a good time. Pick-up baseball games, vinyl record albums, drive-in movies, rock concerts that cost only a few dollars for tickets.. It was a cool era.

People are getting shot for just accidentally knocking at the wrong door or accidentally driving up the wrong driveway. There’s a certain amount of people that just seem to be all fear and rage.

  44. zumiee said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:29 pm

We find our joys where we can. I live near a city that has a very cool used bookstore. I try to go there for at least a few minutes once a week. I bought a few books on CD today at a very cool price per book.

  45. xoot said, on April 22, 2023 at 10:42 pm

As a boomer I’m mainly concerned about my kids. Younger son, MS in systems/robotics engineering, thinks he’s prepared. You gonna reverse climate change? Shrug. What about that enormous gyre of plastic in the Pacific? Oh, yeah. We’ll get that. Older son, more down to earth in Oakland, knows that woke means hip to oppression. He’s not so optimistic. At least they’re smart and well educated. Corporate litigator and UC prof for parents, they should be, I guess. Still, I wish the future weren’t so grim. I find sone solace in the brilliant radical youth rising. Eg, those publishing in magazines like n+1. The Harris kid, who wrote the critical history Palo Alto, belongs to that group. Harvard prof name of Baker, too. So, I’m a boomer at the end, but I’m not done.

  46. djloo27 said, on April 22, 2023 at 11:11 pm

Nothing at all wrong with the young ones.
They’re as smart, fun, brave and hard working as anyone.
And the world was never not a giant ball of shit…

    • xoot said, on April 23, 2023 at 12:06 am

Hard working? Ha. Nobody beat me there but I made sure my kids had a good grounding in The Dude, too. Fuck it, let’s go bowling.
