WOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
Lemme tell ya something, not even Sarah and David saw that one coming….
I spent the first two outs of the 9th inning doing a slow burn. Estrada can’t move Yaz from 2nd. Crawford strikes out. The bespeckled Sabol digs himself a 1-2 shallow grave….and then an absolute magical moment unfolds.
Baseball. There is NOTHING like it.
Katie and I went to see her cousin sing the national anthem and I thought I had the whole thing brilliantly filmed and this is what I actually got lol
Francis Ford Coppola I am not….
But I’m not gonna lie. These Believers might be on to something. And what’s the harm in believing? It don’t cost nuthin’…..
Guess Daniel wouldn’t be talking to us anyway right now.
Hjelle gets the win, right? wow
Hey, I thought this place shut down!
Monday’s loss didn’t really surprise me. Last night, getting a late lead (right before I went to bed), that one hurt a lot. It’s Murphy’s Law right now, fix one thing, something else blows up.
Craig, I’m another ultimate optimist and believer like the pair you and others have been having fun with that couple and proud of it. Paulie can attest to that. And your right, it doesn’t cost anything. Are there parts out of place, missing and tests to prove they are real in this season only 10% done, sure; but is there talent and the right chemistry for the Giants to meet it, I believe there is. And the reward is the best part of this. Proving to the fans who dissed and crapped over the mgmt for losing on Judge viewing it in the rear view mirror and getting to the post would be sweet. In any case, staying close and in the hunt will keep me up late at night watching; and like my softball team going to Columbus Ohio in a week to the Senior Olympics for a repeat win in the 70’s category ( I didn’t say Special Olympics!), I hope the chemistry and bonding prevails.
GO GIANTS!
So many odd moves by Kap, who used 8 pitchers. Junis (who started 17 games last year/112 innings) faced only 4 batters (?) and the 8th was disaster.
Villar 1-19 and 2-32 with 8 Ks, and dropped foul pop up. Oy
I gotta admit I am one of the ones who have been mostly negative about this years team. It seems that winning a few games in a row is the spark we needed. I am still not sold but at least it looks like the team is having some fun.
mlb site has attendance has 20,800. No effing way.
If it’s paid attendance, I could believe that #.
i would put it at about half that
St. Louis should be a good draw, even on a Tuesday night and even if they’re down a bit at present. They were not a good draw last night. No denying the fans are not currently impressed by ZMan and company — the 107 wins was capital that didn’t have much lasting effect. Most fans don’t care for a mediocre team with a roster that is starless and like an unending turnstile…
This happened in 2021. I took my son to a game in May and we got seats 15 rows from home plate for $28.00. There was at most 11,000 at the game. Paid attendance was like 17,000. Went again in September and it was $40.00 for bleacher seats and the place was packed.
Appreciate those that have been looking for me. I am glad to see this community is still chugging along, maybe in spite of your fearless leader. 😀
Got a couple of hours today for questions if anyone has any. Not that I necessarily have any answers…..
Funny, I just posted on your substack.
Great minds and all that!
Nice to see you, Daniel.
Can you or anyone on Earth tell me how Scott Rolen is in the HOF?
You saw a decent chunk of his prime…
For those that watched him, the question isn’t how but what took so long. His defense was–well, y’all’ve seen Nolan on the regular. Rolen was Nolan before Nolan. Couple that with a bat that was well above average and plenty of playoff experience (he really should have been the MVP of the 2006 Series) and he checked all the boxes.
Well you saw a lot of him and I respect your opinion, but I just don’t get it.
Ron Santo had to die to get in.
Dick Allen waits in his grave.
Even your very own Ken Boyer was probably at least as good as Rolen.
Just a few 3B that come to mind.
One thing I think most people agree on is that the HOF is a complete joke…
The HOF is a complete joke, agreed.
If Scott Rolen is a HOFer, then so is Will Clark and lots of other players that were “very good” in their day. Clark has better/higher stats than Rolen in several offensive categories including OPS, # hits and BA. If Rolen is in, it makes no sense to me that Jeff Kent is outside looking in — he beats Rolen handily in several offensive categories — as a second baseman, no less, and was more than serviceable with the leather at 2b. Kent was an MVP, Rolen never was MVP, but was a ROY…
Now you’ve done it, Daniel.
Snarkk is a real smart guy – not a Brooklyn dum-dum like me…
I think Kent’s a HOFer. His total yrs, OPS, etc are nearly identical to Rolen’s, true. But wtf explains the 55.5 v 70.1 career WARs? (bbref) Closer review, maybe.
And Will Clark, 56.5 career WAR.
My question would be how do Cardinals, perennial playoff team, fix whatever it is that has got them to be where they are now? They always seem to have endless supply of position players coming up, does that also apply to pitching? Would they trade one to remedy pitching?
The Cards, like the Dodgers, seem to have an endless supply of stud call-ups. They’ll be a different team by June.
The short answer is, I don’t know what’s happening. It was just a decade ago, maybe less, where the Cardinals had an endless supply of pitchers and no hitters, which is why Sandy Alcantara and Zac Gallen are in other uniforms. (Yeah, we suffer on the regular there.)
I also don’t know the fix. You have Wainwright coming back soon but relying on him to be even more than league average is probably a gamble. Mikolas, Flaherty, and Montgomery are in the rotation for the long haul and at least the latter two have had some good starts (and Mikolas is improving, it feels like). Matz might move to the pen for Matthew Liberatore, I guess, but the pen is pretty full and (last night notwithstanding) has been a strength.
They are going to have to trade an outfielder–that’s the biggest reason Walker got demoted yesterday, just to alleviate the roster crunch–but it’s really unlike Mo to make a move before the end of July. Not impossible, just out of character. Then again, being 9-16 is pretty out of character for this organization as well.
Yeah, just based on my shitty memory, Dale Murphy should be in if rockin’ Rolen is in. He had a pretty good run as the most feared hitter in the league. Maybe not a real long time, but I use the Harold Baines bar. If he’s in, then Murphy AND Kent should be in.
And definitely Will Clark.
What they did to Santo was an absolute crime. Shit, I’m still pining for Lefty O’Doul. He helped market the game to the world back in the day. Let alone played at a high level for 11 seasons.
Rolen had 70 bWAR to Murphy’s 47 and Clark’s 57, which is at least in part due to the defensive portion of things. But I’m a defensive guy–grew up with Ozzie after all–and I think that should get at least equal recognition when you are one of the best of all time at a position. Couple all that with the fact third base is an underrepresented HOF position and I think that’s a strong case for Rolen, who wasn’t an offensive slouch by any means (more career HR than Clark, for instance).

2. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
3. Michael Conforto (L) DH
4. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
5. Mitch Haniger (R) LF
6. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
7. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
8. David Villar (R) 2B
9. Blake Sabol (L) C

My requisite “that line up blows” post
After reading the Dizzy Dean book when I was around 12 it made me appreciate the game and the Cardinals franchise much more. To me the St. Louis Cardinals reflect what baseball is all about. They have always been a fun team to watch.
I like to hear that! Though I definitely appreciate the long and storied history of the Giants as well.
Buccos pouring it on vs. Dogpile, up 8-1 mid-8th.
Rolen did win a slew of GG. The defensive stats/reputation probably account for the difference in WAR between him and Kent/Clark and undoubtedly impacted the HOF voting.
Rep wouldn’t factor into WAR. I can’t find that factor in it anywhere. Not that WAR is dispositive, of course. But ….
It’s unhelpfully tucked into the “Player Value — Batting” box.
That is unhelpful. What do think? Kent HOF? Clark? Rolen? I’m ok with Rolen and Kent.
I think the gap between Brooks Robinson’s and Rolen’s D was a lot smaller than the divide between their hitting stats. Nobody will ever complain about Brooks being in the HOF. Kent should be in. He may not have the defensive numbers, but he never seemed to screw up at a pretty important IF position.
Yaz in RF at home, finally, but now not.
That was frustrating.
Pathetic Slater should have tried to steal home if the Giants were going to that weak ass!
Wtf is with Sabol? 4 freaking catchers interference calls this season? Somebody has to straighten that out and soon!
The catcher position at the moment is interesting. I’ve generally been a “let Bart play” guy, and I’ve not much loved the likes of Wynns and blah blah and blah blah, whoever they are. You guys see the games and players more than I do. Is Sabol possibly “THE catcher” of now and the future? Or is it still Bart? Or both….
Oh it’s still Bart for me P/A but Sabol being Left handed makes it nice with matchups.Besides Sabol has to stay all year with the Giants under the Rule 5 rule are has to be returned to the Pirates for 50K.He’s not going anywhere as he’s turning into a cult hero.
Yeah, good to see, along with Davis turning up all studly.
Wade bomb!
Steal Sabol.
FFS, just hit him.
Sparse-looking crowd again.
Can’t blame Covid anymore.
Early season non-interest, or just non-interest in another no-names club sporting a weak start?
Wade looks so far like he’s found a swing again…
WP for the lead!
Paul, Sabol just nailed a runner trying to steal 2nd.
And just turned around a 100+ fastball for another base hit.
Excellent.. Sabol seems more than able…
Guys not named Goldschmidt 3-20 with 6 Ks.
Kuip is losing it, just said Wade was up when it was Conforto.
Damm I really don’t want see Beck coming in next.Just cause Kapler burned thru 8 relievers last night doesn’t mean this is the right move..
Yeah, leadoff walk, I don’t like this.
Comebacker DP!
Wilmet!
Can’t keep trotting Villar out there, can they?
How great is Thairo?
Safe!
Triple Wade!
Nice to see Giants teeing off on Cards pen. Couple good whacks from Wade Jr tonite, good to see.
A living Hjelle.
Kings fought their way back. set up for wild finish in Golden Center
Fuck you, Goldy!!!
Haha FU Goldie! 5 in a row!
Meanwhile, Sac is silent.
Hjelle worked hard to improve his velo and lose his command. And the AI tells the Giants to trot him out there?
The AI noted that the probability of Darin Ruf giving up 5 runs in the ninth was 12.3%.
Yeah Real Kings have Rings and that will always be the Warriors!!
A great ending to both games!!! Go Dubs!! Go Giants!!
Terry Mulholland’s career record as a Giant: 8-22
