A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

W’s On Top of W’s

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 27, 2023

I missed the Giants game, mostly, for obvious reasons. It would be so *Warriors* to lose game 6. I’m honestly having trouble managing all this winning going on around here lately. The W’s are starting to stack up….

This is a thoughtful, interesting take by Giannis. I don’t agree with all of it but he definitely gave me a different perspective to consider.

Jimmy Butler got away with a pretty obvious push at the end to put up the one handed shot to tie that game but he has been incredible last couple of games and in the playoffs. Knicks will have their hands full but solid heart of champions win by the Dubs last night. Dray was hall of fame impactful and loved seeing GP2 doing his thing and being all over the place when he is on the floor.

Surprising 5 game win streak but Cards also look pretty pathetic.

Fox has a technical. He fouls Draymond and angrily waves his fist about it. Ref goes to blow the whistle, doesn’t. Announcers immediately say “the ref doesn’t want to eject Fox here. WTF? Poole rec’d a tech for much less the prior game. I like the thought process, but do it for everyone then! Looks like my optimism re G-men is working!
PS Green the key. Poole and Curry bad from deep but still won. A great sign.

Warriors ball movement got them 7 more 2 pt hoops on night neither team shot well from distance. They had more steals and blocks, boards and turnovers even. Knock on Sabonis coming from indiana was lack of rim protection, and that hurt Kings a lot last night. With all the shooters/scorers on both teams, allowing Draymond to hit 8-10 and score 21 points can’t happen. He and Loon (plus Payton) are dominating inside and Curry ultimately outplayed Fox, who didn’t have enough help to overcome 9-25 shooting and only getting 3 FTs all night.

I thought whomever won Game 4 had the edge, and still do. Great series, highly entertaining.

13 hits 5 BBs 2 doubles 1 triple 2 HRs 3 steals in 8 innings for SF last night, 5-2 on homestand with Webb going in getaway day game today. Whether fans show up or not, Giants at least playing better ball than Mets and Cards. Much needed day off Friday and they will have another one next Thursday.
Pads (next up in Mexico City Sat/Sun) and Dogs combined 1 game over .500 so far.

  5. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 7:52 am

Warriors are finally catching on about getting to the rim. And late the Dubs did a good job keeping Sacto from hitting easy layups. A lot of non-calls. Dray got whacked in the head and no call, and the non-T on Fox was reeedic when you see the cheapies the Warriors got.

  6. willedav said, on April 27, 2023 at 8:00 am

Should be another nice day in SF, about 70 at game time. Non Golds hitters last night 4-26; hope Webb can keep him in yard.
Non superstar Giants 3rd NL for HRs. keep that up and they won’t be boring.

Giannis’ comment is very good but I’ll still go with Reggie Miller’s
unintentionally brilliant line in a similar situation:
“We can hang our heads high”

      Hah!!

      • djloo27 said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:23 am

Emmitt Smiith was always good for a laugh.
Unfortunately this video doesn’t include the time
he said “you can’t change the stripes off a leopard”…

I didn’t know Sabonis is such a stiff.Looney doesn’t even have to guard him outside cause he’s so bad a shooter, has he always been that bad from 15-20 ft?He’s just a banger inside begging for free throws contributions to me.Warriors manhandle him pretty easily..

  9. Winder said, on April 27, 2023 at 8:41 am

Just read dick Groat died. I guess it’s time for most of the players who I had baseball cards of as a kid pass. He was a good player.

    • djloo27 said, on April 27, 2023 at 8:52 am

I liked Groat a lot – actually ended his career as a Giant.
I gotta read up on how and why that happened.
Was also an excellent BB player at Duke I think.
Yeah, Winder not many big names left from the 60’s.
Mays, Marichal, Koufax, Cepeda and a handful of others…

  10. djloo27 said, on April 27, 2023 at 8:43 am

Some of the crazies here have the Knicks in the finals already.
Surprised by Daniel’s HOF take on Rolen.
    I don’t even think it’s debatable.
They should have a ballot every year to vote guys out…

    • Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:03 am

lol, a vote to vote guys out. I love that. And agree, Rolen doesn’t belong

    • unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:11 am

      Baines

  11. Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:06 am

Madison Garden still in this and a now likely 2nd rd match up of Dubs/Lakes. This is shaping up to be QUITE an intriguing 2nd round.

  12. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:14 am

Lady Bird is wearing down. Lakers should take care of biz, but if Bron Bron has another off night, they won’t get past Memphis. It goes to 7, Memphis will win.

I’d rather face the Lakers at this point.

  13. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:31 am

And I’ll say one thing. I think the Warriors keep Draymond. I didn’t think so at the beginning of the year but I do now. He’s got the option for next season.

  14. James said, on April 27, 2023 at 9:43 am

I just glanced over about half the MLB rosters looking for the name recognition the Giants lack. Most of them are every bit as “anonymous” and boring as the Giants’, and a lot of them have shittier players.

    • Winder said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:26 am

Lol, says a lot about modern baseball.

  15. willedav said, on April 27, 2023 at 10:15 am

Funny thing is, after Pads made big trade neither Soto nor J Bell did much for them. Soto had slugging pct of .390, same as Eric Hosmer and Ha Seong Kim. Bell sucked, and he’s not doing any better with Cleveland. Soto has high OB (walks) but he’s hitting .178 with 7 XBHs in 90 ABs.
Bell is hitting .211 with 2 HRs in 90 ABs and had 3 in 210 for SD last year. Meh

  16. Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 10:24 am

how in the fuck did Groat win MVP with 2 home runs and 0 stolen bags?

    • alleykat69 said, on April 27, 2023 at 10:47 am

      And 50 RBI’s???
Shit Tommy Herr over doubled his RBI total with 110 in 85 with only 8 Bombs but only finished 5th in MVP voting which was so wrong..

      • unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:58 am

Sheist!! Ernie Banks – 41 home runs, 117 RBI .271

        Mays – .319, 29 HRs, 103 RBI (190 hits)

And Groat wins? Did they mistake him for Don Hoak? He was fucking 2nd place with 16 HRs, 79 RBI and a .282 BA.

Mays (or even Banks) shoulda won.

      • djloo27 said, on April 27, 2023 at 12:48 pm

        Would’ve been 3 straight for Mr. Cub…

    • James said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:04 am

He won the batting title playing on the first place team, ergo MVP. The beauty of simpler times.

  17. snarkk said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:36 am

Goldschmidt is hitting something like .575 against DeSalami now, and has been in this series a one man wrecking crew vs. SF in the middle of a pretty putrid, for them, Cardinals lineup at the moment. I don’t know why the Giants don’t just pitch around the guy, like everybody did to Bonds. Walking Goldy 4 times today seems a better alternative to what they’ve been doing, which is throwing hitable pitches to him — which he then repeatedly hammers with extreme prejudice…

    Pirates win again!

  19. James said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:54 am

I hope everyone appreciated the inning yesterday when, after 2 outs and the bases empty, the Giants produced a lone run with 3 singles and two SBs. So much action, so few runs!

  20. Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 11:56 am

    DOdgers lose AGAIN

  21. willedav said, on April 27, 2023 at 12:00 pm

Pirates knocked off Dogs again 6-2. LA score 2 top first but Pit came right back and scored 3 off Urias, then knocked him out with back to back HRs in 6th (one by C Joe). 5 2/3 allowed 7 hits 6 earned 2 bombs. ERA of 4.41

      Looks like they’re going to give Villar his 100 PAs . . . .

  23. snarkk said, on April 27, 2023 at 12:39 pm

I would enjoy seeing the Pirates involved in the Central division race late in the season. Let the low budget team break into relevance. Would really enjoy seeing that ballpark someday, anybody on the Flap ever been to PNC? The yellow bridge in the park’s background reminds of the I Street bridge in Sac near Raley (now Sutter Health) Field…

    • James said, on April 27, 2023 at 12:58 pm

Was there in 2018, great experience. I think I posted about it at the time. We bought dirt cheap tixs right behind the Pirates dugout. An usher wiped the raindrops off our seats before we settled in. It was the MLB debut for Austin Meadows, a player who looked like he was going to have a pretty good career.

    • Macdog said, on April 27, 2023 at 3:21 pm

I was there last year for two Giants games, yeah, great park.

  24. alleykat69 said, on April 27, 2023 at 1:06 pm

      You gotta love Mr. Ed…

    uh oh replay

nah he beat it. gotta be it for Webb.

  26. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 2:24 pm

Wow. If that stands, great play. It won’t though. Fuck.

  27. alleykat69 said, on April 27, 2023 at 2:26 pm

And now your latest highest NFL salary goes to Ravens QB Lamar Jackson 5years 260 M contract, and who the fuck needs an agent?he did this himself!
QB’s are the insanely overpaid position, but u need a good one to ever compete for a SB..

    • Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 4:21 pm

I don’t like his game. LOL I’m serious. Some of his throws are just so off the mark it’s insane. If I’m giving out 260 LARGE in the NFL it’s for a slam dunk guy who can lead us to the SB and I don’t think Lamar is a slam dunk.

      • djloo27 said, on April 27, 2023 at 4:30 pm

Tremendous talent but hurt a lot.
        Who knows?

  28. alleykat69 said, on April 27, 2023 at 2:51 pm

Cmon K&K stop defending Craw that should of been an easy DP..
And now it’s cost them a run of course!

  29. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 2:57 pm

So, we snagged our 2nd series of the season.

  30. Macdog said, on April 27, 2023 at 3:01 pm

If Crawford can’t play defense anymore, what good is he ’cause he can’t hit either.

    • Flavor said, on April 27, 2023 at 4:20 pm

it’s just outrageous how good he was in 2021 and then the wheels just came off

  31. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 3:18 pm

  32. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 5:24 pm

  33. unca_chuck said, on April 27, 2023 at 5:25 pm

Bring up Luciano. Crawfish be drowning.

  34. alleykat69 said, on April 27, 2023 at 6:12 pm

If anything Casey Schmitt would be called up first at SS for his defense..
