A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Whole Bunch Of Good Stuff

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 5, 2023

Finally back home, get the Brew Crew who is coming in from Sherpa Town–that’s advantage us at least for Game 1.

Dubs make an adjustment or two, whatever the hell that means, and boom we back on the beam.

Derby weekend is upon us gentlemen, the greatest of all the weekends. I asked Sabean’s son’s girlfriend who she liked in the Derby and she had no idea what the Derby is. 26 years old. I didn’t think it was possible to not know what the Derby is. I told her to guess. She paused, smiled and said “Bike….race?”

Anyway, Happy Oaks Day!

I ran in the Kentucky Derby Half Marathon last weekend. The course included a lap around the infield at Churchill Downs. I can’t name one horse in tomorrow’s Derby but I can state with conviction that Churchill Downs infrastructure could use an upgrade. Same can probably be said about Pimlico and Belmont.

I’d say GS adjusted to Laker D scheme to pressure Curry as much as possible and Steph was more involved with moving ball around without turning it over and hunting shots less. Quote from Bill Russell I’ve always liked, “Everyone wants to win but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to win.” That’s what Steph and Draymond did last night, running more pick and roll and finding more open shots and in Dray’s case being more physical with Anthony Davis while hitting boards hard without Looney.
Lakers guards can’t match up with Warriors backcourt and they paid trying to shut down Curry, as Warriors hit half their 3s and 2s. And GS stopped fouling so much though it sounds like LA turn to feel game wasn’t called fairly.

Slush said Wood set to return soon so you wonder if pen roles will change around with another starter in mix. Could they use more piggyback type 3 inning guys or use Junis in more often in one inning outings, unlike what he did last year. Last 3 innings of games a big problem so far.

Really liked getting JaMychal Green in as the starter as it forced AD out of simply standing under the rim. We harassed the shit out of him a lot more as well. Bronny had a nice start and then faded. 21 points in the 1st half, 2 in the 2nd.

This is what I thought would happen. The Lakers fade as the series goes on. Interesting to see how Kerr plays it, but he’s of a mind to stick with what works. Start Green and move AD out of the paint.

Can’t remember which of the talking heads said Steph should be the distributor to force the commitment to him to thus open up others was spot on. Klay picked the right game to catch fire.

I said at the start of the Duns series that I thought we were a deeper team than the Fakers “if Kerr chooses to play the at way.” Well Kerr did not for the most part in Game One but we had more of it last night. Given the JaMychal start was driven by Looney being sick allegedly but why not even show the Fakers an even more different wrinkle and start Kuminga to throw a further wrench into the Fakers game plan. Even if only playing Kuminga for a couple minutes.

      Dubs not Duns

Luciano finally over back problems and back in action at SS for Richmond. Homered in second game back, vid on mlb site.
Casey Schmitt double and HR (first of season) for Sac. Villar gotta be hearing footsteps, as Schmitt has been playing 2b lately with recently promoted Tyler Fitzgerald at SS for RiverCats.

    • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 12:30 pm

Schmitt must be better than Villar at 2B. Thairo’s made for 2B, tho.

      • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 12:33 pm

With Thairo at 2B everyday that ranking would surge. 1B is a surprise to me. Ok.

      • willedav said, on May 5, 2023 at 1:48 pm

Schmitt could fill in there if Thairo is at SS vs. LHP, or just to give him an off day.
Might be SS of future too; heard rumblings Thairo’s arm not quite ML SS strength.

      • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 3:04 pm

Yeah, Thairo’s a 2B. But a pretty good one, early lead for Giants AS right now.

Tommy LaStella DFA’d by Seattle and some tool writer says would the Giants bring him back? Hell No way possible that should happen! But it’s the Giants and with Bum a F/A as well striking up the old band never ends they brought Ruf back they just can’t help themselves when it comes to loyalty..

    • Macdog said, on May 5, 2023 at 1:02 pm

      LaHella no!

    • unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 6:27 pm

Well, Ruf had some success. LaNada brought nothing for 3 seasons.

A good outing by Manea would be a nice step toward making me feel like this team will hold my interest for the rest of the summer.

    • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 6:25 pm

      Three innings? Four?

      • unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 6:27 pm

Harden looks like he forgot what sport he’s playing. He’s keeping the 76ers from taking the lead.

      • unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 6:32 pm

Bullpen game more than likely. Oh joy. Haven’t seen him pitch yet.

      • James said, on May 5, 2023 at 6:52 pm

He started 32 games and pitched 180 innings two years ago.

      • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 7:17 pm

I never liked him with the a’s. Now that we know him a lot better, he seems like a great guy.

      • unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:05 pm

Two years ago, i felt young.

Speaking of Crawfish, did I hear his wife is pregnant again? 5 kids? He needs to spend more time with them . . .

    Rain delay?

  11. xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 7:36 pm

“and the run scores”. Successful double steal off a failed steal. Wisely’s fault?

    • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 7:42 pm

No replay shows it was Wade who fucked up.
      JD! Good 3B.

  12. Macdog said, on May 5, 2023 at 7:40 pm

    Just Dingers!

  13. willedav said, on May 5, 2023 at 7:45 pm

If you minused out all the 8 bombs Giants hit in Mexico they would still be 3rd NL. As is that was #50.

  14. xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:18 pm

Don’t know if announcers have mentioned it, but Manea has shaved at least two mph off his vaunted high octane 2023 FB, maybe more, but has improved his command.

    • xoot said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:32 pm

He was at 95 minimum earlier in the year, including in Mexico. Tonight, 91-93 on the FB. Maybe something’s wrong. Lots of soft stuff tonight. Yet it’s one of his better games. Shoulda pulled him after four.

  15. alleykat69 said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:24 pm

K&K.. Kuiper mentioned a lot of runs scored in Mexico’s ballpark & Krukow comes back strong and yes there was plenty of runs at the hotel as well!!Lol one of his best lines ever.

  16. unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:28 pm

Jeeeeebus. He was out with a decent throw

  17. alleykat69 said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:38 pm

I don’t think so Chuck ,Davis was still a few feet from the bag trying to hall in that shit not needed throw.End up costing them 2 runs instead of one..

    • unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:39 pm

I said a decent throw. It was high and wide.

  18. unca_chuck said, on May 5, 2023 at 8:44 pm
