How much longer will Stripling torment us? You know they have to be looking at his 2020-21 numbers and thinking, even if we factor in the nice 2022 stats, that’s still 56 bombs in his last 310 innings. There are only so many night games at Oracle to support any further wishful thinking.
It was another one of zaidi patented stupid 2 year deals so he’s going no where.
The 2-year deals are calculated risks. Two of them worked out nicely. Some of them inevitably won’t. Stripling pitched very well last year, and has had more good seasons than bad over his career. It’s not like he was a flamethrower early on who’s now lost his stuff. Who knows, maybe the ball will go dead again next year. I think they’ll eat the dollars pretty easily, if he doesn’t turn it around.
the 2 year deals are idiotic and the sign of a desperate GM. He’s begging players to come and giving them an opt out after 1 and the ones who suck we’re stuck with an extra year. Not every GM is doing this you understand that, right?
The deals with Gausman and Rodon weren’t idiotic or “desperate.” The Giants got a tremendous amount of value out of them. I doubt that Stripling’s agent was looking at Oracle and using it as leverage against Zaidi in the negotiations.
begging hitters to come here is one thing. Gausman and Rodon are pitchers. We aren’t supposed to have to beg them with sweetheart player deals that do absolutely nothing to build a team. Zaidi’s dumbass thinks 1-2 year at a time, max. That’s his mindset and you can see it in the deals he offers. That’s not how to build a team. That’s how you build nice laundry.
The deals for Rodon and Gasman were NOT calculated risks. They were guaranteed to not work out in the end. Yeah, we got 2 good seasons out of Gasman and one good year out of Rodon, but what did we get in return? Zippo. Nada. Nothing. The calculated risk is that they get hurt and suck and we wasted money on damaged goods.
The other side of that is they do well and leave. Which is what they did. If we were ONE piece from the world series and needed a starter, yeah, I could see that. And the shit almost worked in 2021, but NO ONE saw that coming, and in the end we lost Gasman as it was.

Read couple different places Wood due back by weekend series vs. AZ, so expect some type of readjustment to rotation. Junis was one of the guys more affected by illness on Mexico trip. Effective pitcher who hasn’t been used much so far.

The season-long problem with this team being able to close out games really bit them in the ass tonight. Funny thing is, at the end of the 3rd quarter they did the coach sound-bite thing and Kerr said “Don’t play hero ball. Make the next pass. look for someone with the better shot.” They forgot that with 2 minutes left and just started shooting at will and fucked it all up.
