A Long Long Time Ago….
Came across this cool pic of Candlestick 2 weeks before it opened on April 12th 1960.

Lotta pressure on Klay tonight. He can’t keep shooting us out of games. He can’t keep thinking he’s the same guy he used to be. And it’s on Kerr to manage this. If he’s brick laying Kerr has to either get him out of there or tell him to stop shooting.
Not sure I’ve ever seen a pic of the Stick without an upper deck around the infield. That must have been awful wind for most night games.
Klay or even Curry can’t play hero ball in crunch time and stick to the game plan of movement, screens, and hitting mid-range shots. Take care of business.
McCovey lost a lot of home runs to the wind howling into right field coming off the Bay.
Part of Kerr’s problem is that he isn’t getting better shooting than Klay out of his primary subs, Poole and Donte. When things get Steph centric Moody doesn’t touch ball much either, and Payton gets left open by Lakers for good reason. To his credit he gets most of his shots inside.
Lakers sub guy Walker got hot in 4th and DLo was on bench. Reaves gave them good minutes, which I didn’t think would happen. Ham’s guards are out playing Warriors guards, yikes.
Beat em tonight and then all the pressure is on them for game 6
Definitely. Every game has been different so far this series.
U-G-L-Y.
I got home in the third inning. 8-0??? I take it Manea’s search for command at the expense of velo didn’t do well?
he commanded those pitches right down the middle.
Not type of performance to get crowds back to the yard. SP Nats got from Dogs in Scherzer/Turner deal shutting them down.
One night after uplifting game…
Looked up AZ (Giants next 4) team stats on B/R: lead league in BA .273, top 3-4 for OB OPS doubles/triples.
Up to today, runs against slightly worse than SF.
As guy on MCC site (tellusfrankly) said, “Here’s hoping it’s not another rough day for Bay Area sports.”
Yeah, this Giants team is the yo-yo express. Didn’t even know the game was on until I got the loss notice.
For all the bluster about having 7 starters this spring, Stripling and Manaea are not cutting it at all. I’d like to keep Junis as long relief, but who can we call up from the farm?
I mean, Harrison would be cool, but he has like 3 starts in AAA iirc. Fuck Highway to Hjelle. He’s already flamed out spectacularly.
DDV has been disappointing, and Kerr’s refusal to even give Kuminga a sniff is baffling as they need length and quickness. Moody has been decent at times, but he’s just now getting minutes for turd-in-the-Poole. Start Kuminga and see what happens. If it isn’t working, put GP II in.
PS, that has the be the most unbelievably stupid shape for a baseball stadium in history.
They didn’t even put the end zone in the rectangular cut-out part. The football field (if they were even thinking about that in 1961) pretty much runs along the LF line.
On the Stick pic, in 1999 I sat with my 9 year old son for a day game vs the reds at that very spot at that upper deck railing. Seats around us were just as empty. Great view of the 10th inning walk off Jeff Kent drove over the wall in the LF corner. My son still mentions that game occasionally.
Think I remember Jeff Kent saying about the Chevron Loony Cars:”If those Damm cars cost me a HR I would personally come out at night and saw the tops off!”
That HR at the Stick was one that might’ve ripped the top off the China Basin car and scored despite the impediment. Or so we remember it.
Kuminga 3!
Go Dubs!!!
