A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Got A Game 6

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 11, 2023

Draymond was on fire last night. And some how still only accumulated 3 fouls. That was the intensity they needed to bring to win that game and force all the pressure on to LA. I still don’t think they can pull this off, they’re not young and spry enough to keep that intensity going for 2 more straight games. And our true young guys just aren’t good enough.

Cobb Salad in Arizona today. Kinda feels like his stuff wouldn’t play too well in the Arizona climate (low humidity) but maybe I’m wrong and he dominates there. I can’t remember him pitching there and I’m not gonna look it up.

I could see us pulling off Game 6 but fear they expend all the energy doing so. Kerr needs to manage playing time with Game 7 in mind. Though Fakers will likely throw everything at us in Game 6 knowing it might almost be a must win for them to avoid a Game 7. When we got up by 16 they started sucking around and kind of let the Fakers back in the game a little when they cut it to 9. They need to put their knees on their throats and choke them out…

So, I get back from New Orleans and see that the Giants are playing the Nats, they and the Orioles are the home teams here. Turn on the local sports channel, MASN, only to find they are at war with my cable company and have been blocked. Go to watch on MLB but get the MLB’s local blackout rule, Giants get smoked so I’m not to bummed about missing the game, but if I was a Nats fan, I’d be pretty pissed at my cable company right now and because of MLB’s blackout rule, I don’t think they have any options to watch their team.

Sales rep friend of mine, with lovely Lafayette La accent who’d relocated to Long Beach Ca, ran into one of those years ago. Unless she changed cable companies Dogs games were blacked out. Stuck it out and refused til finally mess got settled.
Sucks that package you paid for was unavailable while Nats were here. But I don’t think Giants fans liked watching much either.

Looking at the standings I see the A’s have only won 8 games. They’ve given up almost twice as many runs as they’ve scored (Run diff of -142), now those are the games MLB should be blacking out.

Wiggins punishing Lakers with floor spread out another good sign. Btw him and Draymond held their own vs. James and Davis for points boards etc. And wiped out FT disparity.

    • Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 7:05 am

They posted it during game, free throw disparity something like minus-51 in LA wins, only minus-1 now in Warriors wins.

  6. unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:27 am

Which means the refs have a pretty big role in determining the winner.

    • willedav said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:36 am

mm more about figuring out creative ways to draw Davis out on top and getting out in transition before D can get set up. Took 2 screens sometimes as Lakers kept switching who he was guarding but opened up room to score in paint.

      • unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:19 am

Sure, but looking at game 3, the refs were calling everything way too tight. There was like 45 seconds left in the half before we took our first free throw and LA was getting to the line at will.

Wood supposed to return soon, and Manaea has burnt whatever chances he had of staying in rotation. That second inning Sabol saved him with diving grab deep LF with 2 on. Then next batter he gives up another rocket for 3 run bomb.
Then in 3rd after Davis error he had 2 on 2 out and chance to get out of inning again. Followed by walk to load bases, 2 run single 2 run triple. Error sucked but not an excuse for what followed.
He faced 17 batters and gave up 5 hits 3 BBs. Stop running him out there as SP.

  8. unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:23 am

I thought Manaea had a shot at sticking, but he’s not cutting it. Stripling is worse . . .

Hjelle has already shown himself to be not ready, so this glut of starters we supposedly had isn’t really coming to fruition.

Ryan Walker looks like he’s doing OK up in Sacto. At least his whip is a solid 0.96. Harrison is at 1.63. He’s still green.

  9. alleykat69 said, on May 11, 2023 at 11:22 am

I thought Draymond played one of his greatest games ever as a Warrior. His energy level was off the charts on both sides of the ball.He was running the court in control seemed like the fastest player out there at times, only 3 fouls for the night??assists, blocks, rebounds, scoring 20 points, taking charges,he was a highlight reel all night along with Wiggins &Klay!!
But if some reason the Warriors shot they’re wad and can’t hang in there in the 4th quarter I can see Draymond losing it gets 2 quick T’s and riding into the sunset..

  10. unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 11:50 am

His scoring has been a Godsend. It is was and will be about their focus.

    Turnovers and fouls.

  11. unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 1:02 pm

With DDV and Poole (and Looney for that matter) providing limited scoring, they need help from Klay and someone else. Dray stepped in nicely He NEEDS to attack the rim more when he gets the ball in close. His kick-out the other day down one late infuriated me.

I haven’t heard otherwise, so I assume since the DBacks DFA’d him, Bum has just been riding horses and shoveling horseS out at his ranch outside Phoenix. Anybody heard of any team picking him up?…

  13. alleykat69 said, on May 11, 2023 at 2:20 pm

Haven’t heard about Bum, but if I was him I would hand over the shoveling to both Manea &Stripless for horse shit duties and cow milking and see if the Giants wouldn’t take a flyer on him.He couldn’t be any worse then any 5th starter they have now..

    • snarkk said, on May 11, 2023 at 2:25 pm

      Any worse, I dunno.
But, he was pretty damn bad for the Dbacks…

  14. blade3colorado said, on May 11, 2023 at 2:35 pm

Loved Bum when he played, but I don’t need to look at any train wrecks. Same deal when we passed on Timmy – I was glad we didn’t get to experience his humiliation with the Angels and particularly, with the Texas Rangers, e.g., he made 10 appearances for the Round Rock Express of the PCL, posting a 5.68 ERA and walking nine batters in 12 2/3 innings before being released by Texas.

No, I want to remember Bum, Timmy, etc., the way they were with us.

  15. mrsprtdude said, on May 11, 2023 at 2:57 pm

    100% re Mad Bum
Our lack of quality SP’s after that being seen as a strength (the depth) is annoying. Now Manea and Stripling will be with us next year too! Grr

  16. alleykat69 said, on May 11, 2023 at 4:44 pm

Austin Slater to the IL with hamstring strain.Giants recall OF Bryce Johnson and he will play CF and bat 9th.

    • snarkk said, on May 11, 2023 at 5:55 pm

When is Slater NOT on the IL?

  17. willedav said, on May 11, 2023 at 5:38 pm

Hope Giants pitching is on…DBax are no worst than 3rd NL in almost every offensive category except HRs (9th)and BBs (12th). Don’t K much either, 3rd best.
On other hand, team ERA is 14th. LHP going tonite for them.

  18. Locojuan said, on May 11, 2023 at 6:57 pm

    Yes that’s getting it done..

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on May 11, 2023 at 7:44 pm

He’s sure off to a good start. Other Giants you can recall off to such a good start? Will the Thrill? Buster?

      • xoot said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:14 pm

        Pablo.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:22 pm

Yes, Pablo too… I think it was Kuip who cited some players who hit homers in their first games, some names that turned out big, but the Thrill is the only one I remember…

      • xoot said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:35 pm

Pablo hit a few HRs after he got called up in 08 but he hit a lot of doubles. Loud doubles. And of course he earned his nickname after leaping over and around a hapless catcher’s attempted tag at the plate. Next year 09 he really went off.

Crawford hit a grand slam his first game in 2011, right? I remember getting an alert on my phone while I watched a middle school production of Twelfth Night.

  22. willedav said, on May 11, 2023 at 7:50 pm

Guys not named Schmitt tonite 1-15, only hit being that bunt by Wade.

  23. Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:38 pm

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:44 pm

Oh! I was liking the “HR in first game” list (Craw, Thrill, maybe Pablo) as possible indicators for future success, but THAT list?… eek. I don’t even remember Aramis Garcia….

      • Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:48 pm

        Me neither.

      • willedav said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:22 pm

        yeah. Backup C.

    • zumiee said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:50 pm

      Yikes. That’s quite a list.

  24. Winder said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:48 pm

    Nice

  25. zumiee said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:53 pm

Teams quickly stopped throwing fastballs to Bowker, and that was it for Bowker.

  26. Winder said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:56 pm

That was a good at bat. by Conforto

  27. Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:57 pm

    Casey RBI single, 4-4!

    • Locojuan said, on May 11, 2023 at 8:59 pm

Very solid night for the kid.

  28. alleykat69 said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:08 pm

Schmitt is like when Robert Duvall was describing Roy Hobbs in The Natural :Doesn’t matter where you pitch him he hits it ,LF,CF,RF it’s incredible I’ve never seen anything like it..

    4-4 now batting .636 OPS at 2.000

  29. unca_chuck said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:18 pm

We are really scraping the barrel if we got Tom Waites pitching for us.

And the Suns once again laid a huge turd in the elimination game at home.

Down by 20 in the 1st quarter and down by 32 at the half.

  30. Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:20 pm

Can’t Waites to see this stiff sent back to Sac.

    • willedav said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:23 pm

6-0 lead and Doval still has to come in.

  31. Locojuan said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:26 pm

    Good win n AZ.

  32. Macdog said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:27 pm

Another Cobb gem, Schmitt can hit, victory in the desert! And yeah, a rough night for the Phoenix teams.

  33. xoot said, on May 11, 2023 at 9:27 pm

Doval beat the hell out of the clock on those two ABs.
