A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Dynasty Over

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 13, 2023

That was kind of my worst fear unfolding. Klay thinking he still had “Game 6” in him and just ending up embarrassing himself. Game 6 was seven years ago. Tough decisions to make in the off season.

Kapler can’t keep trotting Stripless out there. He’s not even trying to manage if we see his dumbass on the mound again any time soon…..

Giants had battled back to tie it then Junis (first outing since Mexico) and Wood (31 pitches to get 3 outs) let game get away. Sabol with another critical miscue behind plate, unable to glove high fastball from Junis with runner on 3b.
Games without DeSclafani Webb Cobb not going well.

    • unca_chuck said, on May 13, 2023 at 8:11 am

      They had a 3-0 lead.

      • willedav said, on May 13, 2023 at 8:32 am

Yes, and I’m not defending Stripling giving up 4 runs. But score was even after he left at 4-4 and the guys that followed him to mound gave rest of game away. Passed ball sucked.

Pretty awful. I noted to friends back home there that the Warriors looked completely defeated starting the second half. The last minute of the first half was shit. Could have cut the lead to 3-4 points but piss poor shot selections and Poole instead of challenging Reaves as he went up jumps out of the way of the crazy half court shot and next thing they know heading into the locker room down 10. Bullshit.

The dynasty is over but what a run. I frankly would not be shocked to see Kerr moving to the front office and helping transition to mew leadership as Bob Myers goes somewhere like Phoenix. Even though Dray still plays all out and clearly the second most impactful player and would hate to see ever in a different uniform, best scenario is for him to opt out and move on. Fakers will lose to the Nuggets thankfully and Nuggets have been my pick to win it all. So Fakers coming up short could then put in their head that Dray adds a key piece to take up a big notch to get them to an nba final. This series also should cement that a max deal for Klay would just be stupid. Why Kuminga basically say all series when we needed more size and was clear last night Wiggins was not close to 100% and had no ability to slow Lebron down or do anything when Lebron posted up on him is incomprehensible of a move by Kerr. We need the next generation to take over and sounds like sacrilege but after one more year of Klay and Curry with Klay not deserving a max deal at his age, the unthinkable idea of trading Curry after next season or even by the trade deadline should be carefully weighed. Curry to Charlotte for Ball I would do in a nano second…

    • willedav said, on May 13, 2023 at 8:38 am

Dray ain’t going anywhere. Already said he’s opting in (reported locally) and extension could be worked out. What happens with Klay (last year of deal next season) Poole DiVincenzo Kuminga and others, including Myers the GM whose contract expires in couple months, open to question. Big lux tax bill still out there next season for Lacob.

      • Giant Head said, on May 13, 2023 at 12:45 pm

I did not see that dray opt in news but what if the Warriors try to offer less than what he thinks he is due which seems in his mind likely a max deal and he gets steamed and Myers has already left the org? Not sure it is such a lock he opts in for just one year.

      • willedav said, on May 13, 2023 at 2:23 pm

Oh yeah lot going on, with Klay too. what I read in Athletic is any extension talks with Klay involve him taking quite a discount off $43 mil he’s owed next season. And yes, whether Myers is around to sort this might have something to do with how things end up.

Congrats to the Dubs for a great run, one of the greatest in N.American pro sports history. I say the Dubs players and organization, especially the core 3 players that have been the heart and soul the whole time, can hold their heads high.
These things can’t and don’t last forever. Everything and everyone has an expiration date.
I think they just ran out of gas. The Kings 7-game series took a ton out of them, and that’s why they lost that first game at home, which doomed them against a bigger, younger team. The Dubs have been in the playoffs and won so much in them, they’ve essentially played an extra season of games, and more, over the last decade. That takes a physical and mental toll on the core players that have been through it all.
I enjoyed it immensely while they were in the playoffs mix most every year.
Regardless of the upcoming changes, whatever they will be, the 5 straight finals, and 4 trophies altogether, and all the great games and spectacular, jaw-dropping moments during this historical team’s run were all great fun that will bring recurring, future smiles of memories…

Agree that Stripling not the answer. Either Wood or Manaea needs to step up and provide quality innings as 4th starter. Giants can’t get by with just Webb, DeScalfani & Cobb. This team lacks true identity. Great start this week for Schmitt and Estrada & Davis have provided lift since Opening Day. But offense also surviving on veterans Wade & Yaz. Starting rotation and bullpen also mix of youth and veterans. If Giants maintain .450-.500 winning percentage into summer, infuse roster with more young prospects. Craw prime example. He’s had solid career capped by two World Series titles but he’s reached sunset.

Wtf do they do with two shitty starters both signed to $12.5 million contracts through next year? Keep running them out there in the hope they generate some scintilla of trade value by the deadline? Fat chance. Money swirling down the toilet along with the losses. At least Haniger and Conforto can play corner OF (sparing us from seeing Thairo or Wade out there).

Wade now that I think of him has exceeded my expectations as an every day 1B. The IF is pretty good, when Thairo’s at 2B. Makes the Webb, Cobb, Disco starts winnable. Hell, watchable.

    • xoot said, on May 13, 2023 at 11:21 am

Actually, Stripling and Manea May be getting 10M this year and 15M next year. Too much too long no matter how you look at it.

  6. alleykat69 said, on May 13, 2023 at 12:47 pm

Just some damm awful ERA’s from Starters /BP How can you possibly win games with this steaming pile of shit happening??
    Stripling 7.14 including 10 bombs 💣
    Manea 7.96 7 Bombs 💣
    Junis 5.14
    Brebbia 5.52
    Alexander 5.84
    Taylor Rodgers 5.91
    Hjelle 10.18
    Waites 15.53

    • xoot said, on May 13, 2023 at 2:56 pm

It’s really hard to match the SF Stripmall with the guy who put up his numbers last year in Toronto. Manea is no surprise, sadly, although I really didn’t appreciate what a good guy he is.

  7. xoot said, on May 13, 2023 at 3:05 pm

Bochy’s starter Jon Gray took a perfect game into the 7th vs the Las Vegas A’s at the E Coli just now. Got out of the 7th unscathed thanks to a tremendous OF IF relay to nail a sliding a at the plate. Bochy must be having fun.

  8. willedav said, on May 13, 2023 at 3:47 pm

Worst team I can remember was 1962 Mets who went 40-120 for .250 winning pct.
they were minus 330 run differential. finished 60 games out of first place.
A’s are 9-31 with .225 winning pct and already minus almost 150 a quarter way through season.

    • xoot said, on May 13, 2023 at 4:34 pm

I think they’re also on pace to set some record for total number of pitchers used in a season. Maybe one or two of them will stick.

    • alleykat69 said, on May 13, 2023 at 5:29 pm

Humm baby Roger Craig led that awful Mets team in wins going 10-24 yikes..

      • djloo27 said, on May 13, 2023 at 6:17 pm

Do you know who coached 3B for the 1962 Mets?

  9. alleykat69 said, on May 13, 2023 at 6:43 pm

    Rodgers Hornsby??

  10. xoot said, on May 13, 2023 at 7:07 pm

Ruf in response to his dfa has elected free agency. Sac’s not for him.

    • Flavor said, on May 13, 2023 at 8:17 pm

he should move down to Zihuatanejo. That’s what I’d do.

A piano bench injury. That’s a new one.

  14. Winder said, on May 14, 2023 at 7:47 am

Gallen’s a pretty good pitcher and had the Giants totally fooled. Thank God for the pitch clock.

  15. willedav said, on May 14, 2023 at 7:57 am

DeSclafani was matching Gallen. 1-0 game til 6th when he had to come out. Alexander had only allowed the 1 run til bases clearing 2 out triple.
then after Giants get run back on Wilmet clutch double to get to 4-2, Beck gives up 3 more. League is hitting .319 off him in his 17 innings of relief with slugging over .500/.919 OPS. Obviously not fooling many guys.
Sucks that AAA guys they’ve promoted like Hjelle and Beck are getting lit up so badly.

    • Winder said, on May 14, 2023 at 11:43 am

I agree DeSclafani did a great job yesterday I did notice he had quite a lot of full counts but i guess that’s the way he works without a killer fastball.

  16. alleykat69 said, on May 14, 2023 at 8:46 am

Yeah I wasn’t going to add Beck from my 12.47 post of steaming pile of shit list cause his ERA was only 4.14 at the time(almost respectable) now it’s 5.71 so he easily qualifies as more garbage. Can’t stand watching him along with Highway to Sac pitch…

Anyway at all the Giants can get this kid Dominic Fletcher out?? My lord 11 RBI’s last 2 games 8-12 hitting HR’s,Triples,Doubles,Single,Stealing Bases he’s a one man wrecking crew with every key hit!!

  17. Locojuan said, on May 14, 2023 at 10:01 am

I heard that Boch and the Rangers coaching staff were having beers at Gino and Carlo in North Beach last night. The photo I saw looked like Boch was all smiles and having a good time.

  18. alleykat69 said, on May 14, 2023 at 11:36 am

Giants option David Villar to Sac (no surprise) Crawford back playing SS today, Schmitt playing 3B,Davis DH

  19. willedav said, on May 14, 2023 at 12:20 pm

Dominic Leone gave up HR to C J Abrams in 7th taking L as Nats edged Mets 3-2 in completion of suspended game. Let’s see if he is one of those guys who can pitch in NY or um not.
Mets have lost 14 of last 20 and have record of 19-21 despite ML leading payroll of $355 mil per cbssports site.

  20. willedav said, on May 14, 2023 at 2:04 pm

Maybe Conforto bomb gets something going. Kid owned them first time through lineup.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Long time to football season.

  23. Winder said, on May 14, 2023 at 3:56 pm

Giants just can’t hit. Webb pitched a good game.

  24. Winder said, on May 14, 2023 at 3:56 pm

I am really starting to not like Kapler too.

  25. xoot said, on May 14, 2023 at 4:09 pm

How Webb got out of that no out bases loaded jam in the first I can barely recall. DP of course. But his command wasn’t good. Then it was and he no hit em a while and finally gave up just one run. And the Giants can’t win it. .500 looks far away.

  26. alleykat69 said, on May 14, 2023 at 4:20 pm

Giants from the 4spot Davis to Wade leading off 0-22 that’s not going to cut it to get a win.

  27. mrsprtdude said, on May 14, 2023 at 7:17 pm

Augh. I was thinking / hoping that SF would start playing better, and then they take a step back. Good pitching today and no hitting..GRR
