Great Win
That was not only a good win but it was a fun one to listen to. I caught almost all of it on the radio and I must say Kuip has a renewed sense of enthusiasm in his voice. I don’t know if it’s that he has finally recovered from his throat issue or maybe he’s just sensing this is the twilight and he needs to go out with a bang. Who knows.
Now let’s shut Correa the hell down…..
Yeah, Willie, Yaz looked like he could have caught that if he had taken a better route. Doval is really getting annoying with the loss of control and brain farts. Bailey didn’t help with the error on the dribbler.
But hey, it’s much better to be winning than losing. The kids are alright.
thanks Unc. Schmitt still doesn’t have a walk in 47 times up, kinda like what he was doing at Sac. Gotta wonder what happens once scouting reports get around the league.
Quote I saw from Wood in Chron is that he complains he has to be perfect out there. Guess he wanted another shot at Soler.
found it: “It’s hard because you feel like you don’t get to pitch anymore–it’s like throw five perfect or get yanked in 5th…”
“Yeah, it’s very frustrating, for sure.”
hmmnn. Also Webb still has some soreness in back as of yesterday.
Giants with a better record than the Padres? Go figure…dont see many good teams in the NL…
Little Dubs chatter. I felt all season that Kerr, especially on road games, was a bit checked out. Maybe that is not the right description, but something feels like he is not fully engaged. The refusal to play Kuminga when it was obvious we needed more size on the Lakers and with a tiring team also to me reflects that Kerr is not completely focused on the task at hand. Would seem quite unlikely, but if Bob Myers leaves, I would not be shocked to see Kerr walk away.
Would also not be shocked to see him take over for Popovich after a couple of years of being in the Spurs front office as they develop this French phenom and then when the rook gets a couple years under his belt and Kerr’s offensive coaching ‘greatness’ may be the right challenge for Kerr instead of watching the hard choices the Warriors and I expect Kirk Lacob (never think the owners kid having a prominent front office position is ever a good thing) taking over for Myers will have to make re a $202 million payroll for next year that seems unsustainable to me and that will lead to some hard choices about Dray and Klay if not this off-season, certainly next.
Just throwing this out there, but a Dray, Klay, Looney trade to the Lakers for one year of AD would save the Warriors about $40 mill in payroll this year. Could they add a Christian Wood to be an AD backup and give Kuminga and Moody the playing time they need to take themselves to the level of being everyday players??? Would also put payroll back to about $140 mill for the 24/25 season and allow them to start putting the pieces together for the next gen title run and prepping for the end of Curry’s playing days. Charlotte has a lot of cap room next three years…I’m just saying…who would say no to a Curry for LaMelo trade in a year after Dray and Klay or moving on as well???
And the suggestion from some like Bill Simmons and Step[hen A to trade Poole and Kuminga in order to give the old guard one more run is asinine…
Nice.
Barry Lamar Looked like a jerk even then:)
He had just finished telling 6 year old Ann Killion to get lost…
lol
I could see them trading Poole if someone is willing to take that contract.
One of the best moves the Giants made was backing out on the Correa deal then the Mets did as well both concerned with his ankle we’re both right now. 34mil with a SS who is struggling batting.206 with OPS like .650 no thanks. And if the Giants kept him would we have seen Casey Schmitt up here are still at Sac?Yeah much rather have a younger Schmitt with his cheap salary compared to Correa’s crazy salary
yes, of course. But they process is what I had a problem with and still have a problem with. They had access to all his medical records BEFORE they offered him the deal. They should have done their due diligence before the offer, not do it then cancel it at the last second.
So did Mets, no? Even Cohen wouldn’t pull trigger. This is on Boras for getting antsy, as Giants were willing to renegotiate and he went in search of different teams. Boras got hissy and said “we’ve given them enough time” as I recall.
Every team would have their own medical staff examine him before contract of any size became final let alone of this dimension. Giants guys said uh hmmnn this doesn’t look good, just like Mets guys did. Embarrassing maybe but right move all along. Eff Correa and boras.
Glad to hear you say this AK . . . Perhaps it’s the nature of baseball fans everywhere, but for all the grief the Giants have gotten this off-season and particularly, the first part of the season, I have 2 things to say: 1. The Giants front office DOES know what it is doing; and, 2. It’s a looooong season – relax and enjoy it.
Yep, looks like the youngsters might save this season. Just like they are supposed too. I gotta admit though I get antsy when we play like crap.
Thanks Blade…I’m beginning to trust the FO thinking especially when I see some of the young prospects making an impact like Schmitt&Bailey when really nobody in the farm system did anything last year.Trust the development I guess it still takes time with the youngsters to mature for sure.I really want Harrison up too and nail down a SP role but can wait till the Giants feel he’s up to the challenge soon so I will enjoy the new younger blood added that has me excited..
Hard to believe Kerr goes anywhere as long as Steph is around. I’d imagine his buddies work out some kind of extension that saves Lacob some $$ before they ride off into sunset…which could be sooner than they think, but we’ll see.
fun fact: Twins have struck out even more often than the Giants.
Both have exactly same number of HRs, good for 3rd in each league.
Funny thing about these astronomical deals is I don’t know of ONE actually working out. Maybe it has recently but San Diego has won the offseason world series 3 times since the Giants won their real ones. And they have nothing to show for it.
I mean, the Nats won it all when they DUMPED Harper. Boston won it all when they dumped all their ludicrous contracts a few seasons back.
Would it have been cool to get Judge? Sure. We’ve needed a stud OFer for years. The only reason I though going after Correa wasn’t a good idea was because of guys like Luciano who are the future. And now with Schmitt off to his fast start, it makes it even more ideal that we bailed on it.
And Craig, I’m sure the Giants did what due diligence they could before signing Correa. Whatever is allowable given the privacy of medical paperwork. Then again, what HIPAA rules apply to players on the open market? Does a player need to be a part of the organization to be able to provide the full medical reports and things?
Slusser said on KNBR they had access to all medical records before they made him an offer. I’m sure the players signs off on allowing interested teams to review his records prior to making him an offer. How else would they have access to them? This was an old injury (over a decade old). They knew about it they just changed their mind. And I’m glad they did. But that doesn’t make it any more of a bush league move.
HIPPA rules protect the individual whose medical records and condition are at issue. That individual (or a person authorized by that individual to do so) can waive the individual’s privacy protections for specified purposes to certain parties…
anyone know how to track how the Giants do the day after a bullpen game? Feels like they’ve done that several times already this year, I want to know what their record is the day after a BP game
Brebbia has started twice this year before tonight. No other BP guy has started a game.
this is great as they all are by Jomboy
That’s fucking amazing. I turned the game on at the tail end of this brouhaha and didn’t see the whole thing. Unreal. The ump finally admits he called time and the crew chief didn’t just call for a re-pitch?
Terrible.
Exactly. Sabol is better hitter than either one of them and has made some nice plays in OF, at least so far. But there will be roster crunch once others (Joc etc.) on IL get healthy enough to play.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
3. J.D. Davis (R) DH
4. Michael Conforto (L) RF
5. Blake Sabol (L) LF
6. Casey Schmitt (R) 3B
7. Patrick Bailey (S) C
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Brett Wisely (L) 2B
P: John Brebbia (R)
Any chance Stix attends a game this week?
I have no clue who is on the Twins other than Correa.
But, I’m happy the Gyros are playing them. The new schedule paring down the number of division games makes me enjoy the season even better that I thought I would …
What part does Slusser not understand that Sabol has to and deserves to be a Giant since he’s a rule 5 player and has to remain on the team the WHOLE season? He’s more than adequate to play LF especially over Joc who should only DH. As a catcher no, but even then learning on the fly which is no easy task in one of the most demanding positions with no prior experience he’s ok as 3rd Catcher emergency.Sabol has put good stats, up to .277, has power, and gets on base which the team likes, also a great bunter and the fastest Catcher for sure.Theirs other option moves they can make but Sabol isn’t one of them..
Kat, the rule 5 says: He must be active (on ML roster) for a minimum of 90 days.
Not entire season.
Lineup has 5 brand new players and 2 guys Davis and now healthy Wade Jr. given regular chance to play that have thrived.
Ok Willied Thanks 90 days huh 🤔
Anyway great start 4 runs in Conforto 3 run bomb , 3 walks and Davis scorched a double.Ober already at 34 pitches for the inning with still another out to get..
Minnesota with a less than inspiring crown there. I thought we weren’t drawing.
Is Brebbia gonna get more than one inning?
Nope.
Donnie Barrells! I guess Stripfuck gets in after Manea to really seal the deal in giving up 4-run leads.
On the 15 day IL I thought.
Such BS by Kapler pulling Brebbia after only 13 pitches and 2K’s I can’t stand when he does this and immediately on cue Diarrhea gives up a hit!
Tommy John is 80 today.
TJ opposed Whitey Ford in the first game I ever saw in person.
He was 22.
If Jim Kaat is in the HOF so should TJ…
https://stathead.com/baseball/player-comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=1&player_id1=johnto01&player_id2=kaatji01&type=p
Tommy John signed with the Yankees as a FA 5 times…
No shit. That’s nuts. Like Hornsby being the 3rd base coach of the 62 Mets.
The 7 degrees of Willie McCovey.
Kaat was an answer in the New Yorker crossword today. I had no idea he made the HOF.
whoa. When was that?
John’s B/R page looks like something written by Tolstoy.
His elbow is 50…
I feel like I’m 80 watching Manaea.
Gawd, Kapler’s pitching Manaea until the wheels fall off.
From Manure to the Shitter.
Oh joy.
Not the right kind of encouraging outing from Manaea. Too many pitches, still walking batters like he’s Dirty Sanchez instead of a veteran whose modest strengths are largely about his ability to throw strikes.
I think what energizes Kuiper on radio is that he likes doing radio so much more than TV. He likes having the mic to himself and painting the picture himself. He likes having to work harder. He can coast on the TV broadcasts, just setting things up for Krukow.
Not to say he doesn’t enjoy working with Krukow. He obviously does, because they’re such good friends, and they have fun together. But in his perfect world, he would be the #1 radio guy, and Miller would be the #1 TV guy.
Bailey might be the first player to wear the number of a dead player (Vida Blue) while simultaneously wearing his memorial patch on his sleeve.
Jesus Alou, who died in March also wore 14 as a Giant for 6 years (just like Vida).
He ain’t on the patch.
Not as hideous as ignoring Jim Ray Hart, but disrespectful to the Alou family, IMO…
He’s not.
Panik wore #12 with Davenport on his sleeve in 2016…
Guess who else wore #14 for his first 6 ML games?
Kap pushing his luck with Beck. Long bomb, now he beans a guy.
And that’s it.
Fuck. The 9th inning woes are gonna bite us in the as at some point.
Hooooo boy. Torture 2.0.
Fuck me. That was the 8th inning?
Oooops. Guess I don’t need another beer.
But that never stopped me.
ballgame!!!
Victory in Minny!
Starting the roadie off right.
Good for Wisely. He hasn’t hit much but he whacked double off the wall top 9, started the DP and caught the line drive for final out.
Rest day for Doval too as Alexander closes it out.
Good win to start roadie off nicely.
Conforto warming up with the bat…
YAY!!!
The Lakers have Bronny and AD and naturally they start gunning 3s when down 2 late.
Insane. They’ve made zero 3s in the 2nd half.
It’s always nice to start a road series with a win. These guys gotta be pretty happy right now.
Congrats to the Nuggets, last of the 4 ABA teams to reach the finals.
