A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Rolling

Here’s the other thing to remember: While I think we are all 100% fine with not getting Correa, though we can all feel differently about the process, it’s comforting to know we have Schmitt to take over when Crawford gets hurt again or just rides off into the sunset at the end of this season.

Between adding Schmitt and Bailey our defense has improved exponentially and it’s hard not to notice the results in the win column.

What I have liked so far from watching Schmitt is that he is just a solid baseball jock, not ass hat “Joc” Pederson, like Mike Trout. He is just built to be a ball player and we have not had that type of baseball dude jock in a while. I am not sure I have ever seen an arm like his at the hot corner. It is a bloody cannon…he should never be sent down.

Thairo fits that description as well…

      • Giant Head said, on May 23, 2023 at 10:45 am

        Absolutely!!!

Not just Schmitt either. Davis has been really good at 3b and backups like Sabol in LF and Johnson in CF have made nice grabs too.
Couple early mistakes but hoping Bailey can settle in behind plate.

    • willedav said, on May 23, 2023 at 8:26 am

Wisely had nice diving stop and throw yesterday too.
Pitching D and 3 run bomb. Earl Weaver would be proud.

i forgot how important defense is, and how bad it was last year, until recently and now our guys aren’t kicking the ball all over the place. It matters.

      • djloo27 said, on May 23, 2023 at 10:25 am

Base running has also vastly improved…

      • Giant Head said, on May 23, 2023 at 10:46 am

        Wisely also like his jock-ness

Season has changed with the revelation of Scmitt&Bailey energizing this LU and Clubhouse.Twitter was showing Bailey,Thario,Crawford,&Maenea partying down it’s nice to see compared to Padres clubhouse where every player is packing and saying don’t Fuck with me ever!!
Defense is so much better than last year and a surprising JD Davis at 3rd really was an added bonus with the glove and certainly the bat! Conforto really coming on, he’s saying I’m trying to let the ball get deeper in my swing, said I’m tired of rolling balls over to 2B it counterproductive..
And damm once he puts back on some weight from the Mexico disaster of diarrhea food Mitch Hangier will start raking again and hit bombs, his defense has been stellar so far, finally a LF that can ketch a ball!!

Guess they pulled LaMonte Wade Jr late in the game with a jammed thumb he thinks it’s fine(but crap he’s the catalyst leading off, really the best imo leadoff going get an x-ray to make sure ! He probably jammed it taking those 94 mph throws from Schmitt! Better add a lot more padding to the glove 🥊 Late Night with Schmitt gunning you’ll need it..

Surprises me that Pads have gone off the rails in the clubhouse.
Bob Melvin was thought to have the ability to nip that in the bud, or deal with that type of thing when it happens. Losing a lot can generate a lot of internal strife, and winning is the only salve…

    • Flavor said, on May 23, 2023 at 1:01 pm

i haven’t followed this story. Is Tatis causing it all again?

    • snarkk said, on May 23, 2023 at 1:23 pm

I’ve just heard some stuff on sportstalk radio that things aren’t good in the Pads clubhouse — big time losing streak has players in ornery mood. Just had the dreaded “players only” meeting, and players getting testy with media. I think all that’s not a good sign for the coaching staff. Machado has hairline hand fracture, he was down in offensive stats before that, like most of the team…

Good D always fun to watch.
who would be on SF giants all time IF D team?

Yeah Snow was great saving runs I also like Thompson at 2nd,Williams at 3rd, SS Crawford &Viquel work for me..

    • snarkk said, on May 23, 2023 at 1:14 pm

      Cool story.
I’ll go out on a limb and say MLB baseball was better back then…

    • unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2023 at 3:26 pm

It doesn’t seem like that long ago, but yeah, they took care of shit themselves back then.

    • djloo27 said, on May 23, 2023 at 5:05 pm

      Awesome!
      Poor Carter…

        Yes indeed.
Hitting over .300 this month and I think that’s HR # 5 in May. 10 overall.

  13. Macdog said, on May 23, 2023 at 6:43 pm

    Conforto for the lead!

  14. mrsprtdude said, on May 23, 2023 at 6:44 pm

  22. Giant Head said, on May 23, 2023 at 7:28 pm

Ok by my count the Giants are 9-5 since Casey got here….nuff said…

Was wonderful watching the Fakers go out and get unceremoniously swept and Lebron clanking shot after shot in the 4th…

  23. Giant Head said, on May 23, 2023 at 7:33 pm

    Loved that Will Clark story…

  24. xoot said, on May 23, 2023 at 7:35 pm

Hell yeah they can play .500 ball! Actually the past two weeks have been fun and they look like they’re still rising. One announcer, Jon Miller, maybe, said Sonny Gray thinks the best pitch in mlb is the Cobb 95 mph two seamer that bends back to catch the 1B side corner. I like it too.

Yeah, we are on a roll and we do look like a different club. Timely hitting and good D make all the difference.

  26. willedav said, on May 23, 2023 at 9:17 pm

Wild game in Tampa, as they used 2 position players who gave up 10 runs late and lost 20-1 to Toronto.
belt btw has OB up to .362, OPS at .770, and is hitting .350 this month. Not quite dead yet.

    • xoot said, on May 23, 2023 at 9:44 pm

Vladdy GS off a position player. Terrible game. If Belt can stay healthy, he can contribute a lot. Moving to think of him as the kid who cried in 2011 when Bochy said he’d break camp with the club.

  27. xoot said, on May 23, 2023 at 9:31 pm

I have no hope for the stripper, but I’d be glad to see this high spirited tough guy come around.

Maybe his role is 3-7 in a bullpen game, maybe he becomes the fifth starter.
