A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Fanfest at AT&T: 10am-3pm today

photo (2)I’ve never been and I don’t think I’m going this year. I don’t have anything special going on instead, I’m just not looking forward to the heat I’d catch from ‘Dirt for the atrocious string of BB’s I’ve been churning out lately. 🙂 I might go, but it’s clear that the only reason my kid wants to go is to ride the train and that might not be enough to keep her goin’ all the way through all this:
(Craig made it! Blew 5 bucks already)
fanfest

The lines to see/talk to the players promise to be interminable and Flavor doesn’t like to wait in lines unless it’s at a Wingstop. The Giants have listed off the *Top 10 Reasons to go to Fanfest* and it looks something like this:

10/9/8/7: buy tickets and gear

6: walk the field

5: get your face painted and visit the slide (And even if Katie stays home, this might turn the trip into a go* for me) 🙂

4/3/2: buy more shit.

1: talk to the players

I dunno, the face painting is enticing but I’m guessing that I’ll be a little too far away to do much “talking” to the players. My dad went a couple of years back in the “Rowand Era”– a desolate time, he said like 6 fans showed up. And as you can imagine, he got some great close up pics. I’ll see if he can send some to me today and I’ll upload them as/if they come in……

Have fun to any of you who are making the trek out to the yard today…….

The cure for 49er funk is Giants bask-mania.
I won’t be out there today; should be a very cool event.

And….I got the first magazine of the season! Sporting News’ 2013 preview. A very nice read. Although they have the Dodgers first in the division this year, they say don’t count out the Giants winning the division. The Dodgers have the advantage on paper, says the magazine….but we all know the saying about that….

Here’s what Vogelsong said about Timmy’s haircut:
“He looks 12 now instead of 15.”
    Ah….clubhouse harsh humor. (grin)

My question marks for the team this year:
Can Scooter and the Preacher hit .580 between them again? ( if it’s .290 each, we be laughin’..)
LF? Defense and Speed? Or is it the Beltway? Or a sleeper?
What do we call Timmy? “The Freak” is out..the Professor? Shane Loux? The Librarian? Mr. Cy?
Don’t rule out: Peguero- has everything except success… but my keen never dead wrong in public eyes, ears, and nose think he could challenge for that LF spot

Ha yes, was thinking about that while typing that Tim sounds pretty convincing.

I am sure I wouldn’t be able to resist mentioning the run of filthy wenches over on the BB page. Unfortunately my dream of fan fest was squashed. Something about my mother in law’s birthday. Obviously she is not a Giants fan. She’s German and doesnt understand the most American of sports. She makes an epic koenisberger klopse though so I have forgiven her.

Dirt, one question about your Mother-in-Law’s koenisberger klopse :
      do they ship well? 😉

Haha, I haven’t asked but when she make them it is a big batch and she freezes the left overs for later meals. They hold up surprisingly well. Her and the father in law have an interesting dynamic going on. She decided about 5 years ago that after 25 years that she would no longer be cooking so he does all the meals now. Unfortunate for me because she is a really good cook. When she makes the koenisberger klopse it is a real treat. Not sure if it is German but her apple cake is awesome too. I’ve heard she makes a great schniitzel as well but haven’t seen it yet.

No success?! Peguero scored 6 runs, while getting on base 3 times. I defy anyone to find a player with a better ratio than that.

Thanks for posting the pic, Twin. I was in and out in about an hour fifteen minutes. I found someone to watch Katie and I decided to go. Will post pics later. It was a beautiful afternoon, no great tale to tell, just felt like I was in the most perfect spot in the world for a little while….

A good thing I heard about Timmeh’s offseason is that he didn’t do any swimming. As I’ve said before, I think that messed him up last year. Instead, he worked out with a fitness group in Seattle he hooked up with via recommendation of Greshner and the Giants. Core work and various types of strengthening. And, he’s supposedly up to 170. We’ll see if this makes a difference, I have a hunch it will help. At least he’s lost the webbed feet for this season…

Feels good to be back talking again about baseball and the Giants. Willis and Kap and the Smith Bros. and VD and all those guys on the Niners — that’s fine and all — but, baseball is my comfort zone. Looking forward to seeing the WS rings when they come out…

I’ve noticed something in the last few months that you guys out on the West coast who live among Giant fans may not necessarily have experienced. You gotta remember as a Giant fan I’m all alone here – at least in the immediate neighborhood. I’m well known for it. Anyway, ever since championship # 2 when I wear my Giant stuff (almost every day) I actually feel like fuckin’ royalty – almost God-like – almost 5 feet tall. Doesn’t matter if it’s a jacket, a hoodie, or just a couple of pins. I feel like I personally achieved something special that took me almost half a century to earn. And the people who know me know it and they respect it. I can feel it and I see it in their eyes. After the first one in 2010, it was like the little maniac finally got lucky just once. People were genuinely happy for me. (I’m quite popular) It’s different since the second one. Now I can just put on a pair of black mittens with that spectacular orange SF logo and I fuckin’ own everything – like I knew something all along that they didn’t. I could only imagine how the team and members of the organization must feel.
