A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Weekend

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 31, 2020

Pretty lazy little Saturday, actually. Might fire up a late pick 4 at Del Mar. Will be fiddling around with my NFL teams at draftkings in preparation for Sunday’s action. Let’s see what good ol’ Bozo is up to…….

Hope you guys have a safer Sunday than that Clown who seems to have cornered himself into quite the pickle.

What To Do Now

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 30, 2020

I’m still reeling from the great Pa Salon’s out of the blue post from yesterday. I will see him next week in Reno as we play the Breeders Cup together and am hoping to greet him with a memorized poetic rendition of his genius.

What to look forward to now? Well, the Breeders Cup, obviously. After that? I’m quietly confident that the NFL will be able to steer through the travails of the widening winter Caronavirus problem. So there will hopefully be some entertainment there.

I have absolutely no idea when the NBA is planning on re-starting. Their schedule might as well be the NHL schedule. No clue when or what season it’s beginning.

In other news, The Fonz turns 75 today, Grace Slick 81….

Fake Ratings?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 29, 2020

This surprises me:

I don’t know a lot about ratings. Do they still have the Nielson ratings? I wonder if that’s an outdated way of gathering data. With the explosion of different ways people now watch sporting events I would question the accuracy of ratings we see now. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I watched a sporting event on my tv. It’s been months. Everything is watched on a device now.

The Streak Is Broken! (Sort of….)

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 28, 2020

I really don’t have a problem with LA celebrating that little guy. It has been 32 years, any fish they reel in and land on the boat should count. So in my book they did finally win another World Series.

It’s easy to revile Cash for his bonehead move. And if I owned the team I would probably be firing him today. But Cash didn’t really lose that game for them. That fucking team man, besides Arozy, can’t hit FOR SHIT lol. I watched in almost hypnotic amazement as their parade of hitters struck out over and over and over. And not just last night, they did it all post season.

Can’t win if you can’t hit.

The Dodgers have a chance to win a legitimate World Series next year, just as we do. I, for one, am thankful for this season. I can’t believe MLB pulled it off under these conditions.

Will LA Finally Win One?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 27, 2020

Imagine waking up this morning if you’re a Dodger fan. I know it’s not a legitimate season, but when you haven’t won a World Series in 32 years it must feel like one. I talked to a buddy in LA yesterday and he said it’s been so long this will feel like the first one…….

I remember that feeling very well. This was the thread that day…….

https://oneflapdown77.com/2010/11/01/1-more-win/

There are a lot of comments in that thread, you have to hit *older comments* twice to get to the beginning. If you have the time to read through it today, do it, there is some gold in there before the game even starts.

Pushed To The Brink

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 26, 2020

Well, look on the bright side: last night could have been the close out game. But it wasn’t and the Rays live to see another day. The problem is, will today be the final day they live to see?

At least they have the right guy on the mound.

All Tied Up

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 25, 2020

Ok, had some stuff going on yesterday but am back on the beam. I missed the game and it sounds like I missed a great one. A great ending, at least. Saw the final play on twitter. If the Rays can somehow mange to pull this off, oh what the epic collapse it will be for LA. This is why we love seeing them in the post season. If we can’t have SF we might as well get to sit back and watch a legendary implosion.

Game 3

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 23, 2020

Big Game Mort vs Tighty Whitey. This is an enormous game for both teams and feels like more than just the $2.50 I assigned to the first two games.

27 Years ago today Joe Carter smacked the biggest home run in baseball history to give the Blue Jays back to back titles. Who remembers when Joe Carter was a Giant? We traded a dude named Darrin Blood for him. Great name that got away from us.

$2.50 Closer

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 22, 2020

Diggity and I have a crisp ten dollar bill bet on this series. So I’m looking at each win for me as $2.50 in the bank, each loss as a sad $2.50 out. And there will be no venmo/zelle nonsense. The loser sends the winner a $10 bill in the mail along with an apology for failing so miserably and a promise to do better on the next bet.

The Rays are a good enough hitting team with better overall pitching than the Dodgers. I’ve been hearing for 3 years here at Flap Central that good pitching beats good hitting and will overcome the bombfest that baseball has become.

So, let’s see it.

Bad Start

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 21, 2020

Thoughts from last night:

  1. Glasnow wasn’t better. Too many pitches just weren’t competitive. I think we’re just conditioned to think a guy that throws 100 nearly every pitch is dominant. He was not last night.
  2. The Rays swing and miss and at a lot of balls. I know that’s not news but it was surprising at how many it really was.
  3. The Red Sox got 2 minor leaguers and Verdugo for Betts. Why again didn’t they just pay that man his money?
  4. It was so great to see those stolen B’s. Even if it was the Dodgers stealin’ them. The stolen base is one of the best most exciting plays in baseball and it was fun to watch it return, even if it’s just for one game.

May The Streak Continue

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 20, 2020

Here we go, right out the shoot with Glasnow vs Kershunkle. I am picking Tamp Bay for many reasons. Dodger hitters haven’t faced a staff like this all year.

Thank you to Jeff Toobin for ruining zoom calls forever. Now every time I see a dark screen I’m going to be worried. Is he pulling a Toobin? What the fuck man? We are trying to live in a society here. I’d like to think a little decorum can be expected from the people we work with. I love his excuse, too. “I thought my camera was off.” HOW DOES THAT IT BETTER MOTHERFUCKER!?!?!?!? LMAO

California VS Florida

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 19, 2020

Well, The Braves are just freaking worthless, are they not? I’m looking forward to watching the LA bats wilt against Tampa pitching. Series breaks down like this: Rays have been pitching, Dodger have better hitting, tie breaker goes to the Rays due to the Kershaw affect fucking LA when they need him the most…….

Niner game? Wow. I did not see that coming.

No Ring For Baker

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 18, 2020

Not gonna lie, I am sad to see the Astros eliminated. Mostly for Dusty. I was thinking *just maybe* he finally gets his ring. And I think we can put to bed any issues with legitimacy regarding the title this year. These guys are ALL IN and working their asses off. Whoever wins it this year will have earned it. (ps, unless LA wins then it’s a sham title) 🙂 🙂 🙂

Not Dead Yet

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 17, 2020

Irritating win for LA last night. First a guy named *Bryse* shut them down. Then some dude named *Minter* struck almost all of them out. Then….well we won’t talk about what happened then.

Kat won Loo’s trivia contest last night:

thinking of some of the best nicknames we came up with here: The Bowker Gang was outstanding. Count Chocula for Velez was great. That Doughy Fuck for Law. Big Titty for Molina. Others?

Also…….Where were you on this day exactly 31 years ago today? I wonder whatever became of this pussy teenager that Downs had to carry for some reason.

Like Clockwork….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 16, 2020

I don’t want to hear about Kershaw’s back. He performed how he always does in a big post season game. And it was glorious. See what I mean about the Dodgers choking in the post season? It’s nearly as fun as watching the Giants win in the post season.

More Bad News

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 15, 2020

I am so disgustingly sick of this shit.

I don’t care where he ranks on the all time sack list. Fred Dean was the best at it I ever saw. Every single sack he made was important and he was one of my favorite Niners of all time.

Talk about FLEECING the Chargers, wow. This was a haul.

Transactions: October 2, 1981 â€“ Dean traded from San Diego Chargers to San Francisco 49ers for 2nd round draft pick in 1983.  Note: On April 22, 1983 – the 49ers reacquired that 2nd round draft pick in a trade that had Chargers send two 2nd round draft picks in 1983 to the 49ers in exchange for a 1st round draft pick in 1983 (Billy Ray Smith, LB, Arkansas, 5th overall). San Francisco dealt their reacquired 2nd round pick in another trade and used the newly acquired Chargers 2nd round pick in 1983 (Roger Craig, FB, Nebraska, 49th overall).

The Braves seem content on handing game 4 over to the Dodgers. I’ve never heard of Bryse Wilson and if he’s going to continue to spell his first name that way I give him little chance of success vs LA today.

Grienke was a beast last night.

This is not a political comment but it should make you think. I reported a false/misleading ad to Facebook in March of 2019. Yesterday, they finally got around to removing it.

L(OL) A

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 14, 2020

It’s so funny to watch their big bad hitters succumb to a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears Atl pitchers. But what the Braves pitchers are doing this post season is really incredible. And now we look to be on the precipice of a Tampa/Braves series. Bring it on.

11,609….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 13, 2020

That’s how many days it’s been since it was 1988. Honestly, I would be fine with them making the WS because it’s always more hilarious when they lose on the grandest stage……

Whatever, they have so much talent, the days of us laughing at their 32 year failure is nearing an end. But until that happens, I will be LQTM at their inability to close the deal…..

A Covid Success Story

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 12, 2020

I’m not going to pretend to know how it shook out because I didn’t watch any of it, but I think it’s very cool that the NBA pulled off the bubble. And with zero covid cases. That’s pretty amazing when you think about it. Congrats to Lebron who is a lot more likable as a Laker than he was playing for the hated Cavs.

What happened to those Shanny play calls that were always teetering on the edge of genius? Dude was famous for getting multiple guys 5 yards open every play? And I’ll give Jimmy G a pass because he’s obviously still injured. But that offense has their weapons they should be scoring. The defense is in ruins, however.

Big MLB night with Tampa trying to take a 2-0 lead and LA/Atl.

ALCS Starts Today

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2020

Honestly can’t pick a team to root for today. On one hand I really like how the Astros overcame adversity to make it back to the ALCS. And I will always love Dusty. But they’re playing the Rays who are impossible not to like.

Niners today. I got a bad feeling about this one.

Bro….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 10, 2020

This guy. Imagine how awesome it was to be him during this moment.

Considering the history between those two as well as his own history of being undrafted, man, what a moment.

And Then There Were 5

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 9, 2020

Three teams laid down like dogs yesterday. The Yankees are now in perfect position to ruin Tampa’s dreams. New York, Houston, LA, this post season is shaping up to be quite villainous, aye?

When you look up 1974 in the dictionary it should be this picture:

Knock Out Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 8, 2020

That catch by Bellinger was one of the best I’ve ever seen in the post season. The best? Who had a better one?

Drafted in the 4th round in 2013, here’s who the Giants draft before he was drafted: Christian Arroyo, Ryder Jones, Chase Johnson…..then the Dodgers took Belly…..then we drafted Brian Ragira. Not Sabean’s best draft, aye?

A’s, Yanks, Marlins and Pads with their backs against the wall today……

I Heard The News Baby ….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 7, 2020

Still struggling mightily with the EVH news…..The Dodgers finished off an in tact 4 team parlay for me and after I hit it I actually felt worse. Weirdly, I haven’t seen a second of the NBA playoffs this year. I think there was just too much time off and without the Dubs in it I just never gained any interest or traction.

Four more baseball games today. Who cares, nothing matters.

Redemption?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 6, 2020

I gotta admit, Dusty’s Astros are starting to grow on me a little bit. I like people/teams that overcome adversity. And all the A’s do is strikeout. Who doesn’t still love Dusty? At this point I can confidently say I am no longer rooting AGAINST the Astros.

Bungled Coaching Decision

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 5, 2020

Honestly, I was ok with how the Niner game was unfolding and I didn’t even get mad at those 2 absurd picks Mullens threw. He is the back up QB. That’s how those dudes roll sometimes.

My issue with the game last night was with the coach. What in the actual fuck was he doing kicking an onside kick at the end of the game with 2:02 left and 2 time outs? The onside kick used to be a play with the potential for to be one of the most exciting plays of the game. But the NFL rules committee ruined it by disallowing the unbalanced line as well as not letting players get a running head start. After the rule change the success rate dropped from 21% to 6%. That was going into this season I don’t know how many onside kicks have been recovered this year. I am going to guess NONE.

So instead of kicking the ball through the endzone, playing defense and forcing Philly to kick it to you around your 30 with a chance for a runback, Shanny decides to not only try an onside kick but he does it with that ridiculous drop the ball on the ground and then kick it attempt. Of course, it had no chance and at that point we were nearly guaranteed to be pinned inside the 10 which is what ended up happening.

A game we should have won. My expectations for Mully were low. My expectations for Shanny were much much higher…..

Sunday!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 4, 2020

No baseball till Monday? Eh, I guess I see why they’re doing it. They CAN do it and it beats going up against football.

So we’re all Padres fans now? Or would it be that much sweeter, as it always is, to watch LA lose another world series?

Preakness Day!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 3, 2020

So weird to type that in October. Anyway, I like Art Collector I was devastated when he got scratched from the Derby.

The post season of no offense continues onward. Seriously, where are the runs?

MLB Excitement!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 2, 2020

Congrats to the A’s who made it through to the next round (whatever that’s called now). Disappointed to see Kershaw pitch a gem. I never thought for a second that the Cardinals were home free in that game. Tatis is the best player in the game (and the most fun to watch, BY FAR).

Don’t even try to tell me this goofy looking bastard could have pitched against today’s competition. And you are looking at the ALL TIME career WHIP leader. Lol.

Exciting Slate of Games in The Books

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 1, 2020

Yesterday was just a fun day of games. Cleveland lost and that’s always delicious. Minnesota was eliminated with their still impossible to believe 18th(!) post season loss in a row. That A’s won and that’s fine with me, I hate Cleveland and LA way more than Oakland. And look what happened in San Diego. Oh my. Now facing elimination with the grizzled, revitalized Waino on the mound? This has gotten VERY interest VERY quickly for one of the favorites……
