A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Welcome to the New Blog. Oneflapdown77.com is Born Today!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 31, 2010

This is a great day to switch over to the new blog. We’re fresh off a rousing come from behind victory, we swept the dirrrrty snakes, Posey is up and raking and Andres Torres is God. I guess if Buster is going to be Jesus Christ then God is the only thing left for Torres to be. As I said yesterday, he’s a revelation. We finally have a lead off hitter….

Today we’ve got a pretty boring, run of the mill pitching match up. πŸ™‚

Take a look at the page to the right to see everyone’s guesses for the total number of strike outs between these two studs.

The blog is plain right now but it will be changing in the coming weeks. Fiddle around with it and let me know the things you like/don’t like. There’s a way to sign up as a member or something, I’d do that just to have access to all the options.Β There are a TON more features here for you than at blogspot.com including lots of administrative features that will come in handy. I’m still learning it myself so bear with me……

Hey what happens if both Gringo (15SO, 5BB, 11 hits) and MacDog (15SO, 5BB, 11 hits) win?

I suggest Steel Cage Death Match with either broadswords, knifes, Danish Axes, Flails, Lochaber Axes, War-scythes, and/or maces.

Shouldda known things were about to go south when i figured the top of the second would be over and switched over from e-mail account to Yahoo baseball coverage with the sound of thunder getting closer. Timmy had walked those two and i had to log off as the thunder was getting closer yet.
There is something going on with Timmy that they are not telling us right now. It probably is not mental. Do we have another MASH case on our hands? Maybe Bumgarner will get the call for a reason we did not anticipate. Not that he has pitched badly. He just hasn’t been Timmy.

Krukow’s mind is blown that a guy hitting (.220) was sent to the minors? Fowler is a great defensive centerfielder but he’s struggling at the plate.

No one may remember this, but last year I posted about the inevitable big injury that was going to happen eventually with the ridiculous over-the-top celebrations baseball players do when someone gets a walk-off hit. It’s dumb for them to be doing it, and they’re smashing each other up like it’s the winning hit in the 7rh game of the World Series.
Some of you may know the story of how, after the Lakers won a dramatic victory in Magic’s first NBA regular season game, he went crazy and ran up to Kareem and hugged him tightly and was going all psycho, and wouldn’t let him go. And then in the locker room afterwards, Kareem told Magic to never do that again. He said “We’ve got 81 more games to go.” I’ve seen Magic tell that story and laugh about it.

  13. zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on May 31, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Btw- the other inevitable thing is that somebody is going to get SERIOUSLY injured from one of those exploding maple bats.

  40. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:43 pm

I grabbed Posey in my money league as well…6-8 for the first two games was pretty eye-opening. Clutch hitting extraordinaire…of courser in that league I have Jimenez and I started him and sat all my Giants even though Panda went 3-4…

  42. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Quick Posey thought: (and I didn’t see the game today, unfortunately). He certainly hasn’t shown much power. His hits were “Aurilia-esque” in terms of their failure to go very far. Not that he didn’t hit them hard, several of them he did hit hard. I’m assuming we’ll see some power down the road…….

GH– Posey was on the WW in your money league? In the National Fantasy baseball Championships he was only available in 12% of the leagues. Of course, I drafted him in the late rounds in both the leagues I have there, sitting him on the bench until now. And now, on my mark Buster Posey, unleash Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Nice site, BTW.

  47. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Nice Dennis…you have it by George! I dont see Posey being a 30 homer guy or developing as a power-hitting catcher ala Piazza. He looks like his game is going to be a clutch-hitting high OBP hitter as he showed in Fresno. There is nothing wrong with that and should compliment well with Panda over the next 10-12 years.

We are going to have to develop our own power hitters….like the murderer down in the DR? They buy his way out of jail yet?

  48. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Jesus Christ (not Buster), I sometimes amaze myself in my level of stupidity. All the time I was looking for some ‘gadget’ to switch on or something to enact the smiley faces, and all I had to do was type the smiley face, and it automatically converts it for you.

Room B on Flav’s new blog is now officially open. πŸ™‚

  49. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Flav, I am in an heavy east coast biased league, so they have typically been asleep on the Giants not drafted…did you start Jimenez in our league today as well???

  50. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on May 31, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Buster actually hit about 6 Rowand-esque three hoppers to third. Three found holes. Like everybody except Panda, Huiff, and Molina, he looked like shit today but Jimenez is obviously “having a year”. Posey looks very shaky at first base. Time has come to do something with Bengiie. Buster does have to stay but it won’t work at first base. Two positions are harmed.

  51. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Actually, three positioons. He’s made the plays so far but Huff WILL get conked in the noggin out there. He sorta twinkle toes it out there, it will get ugly

  52. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:05 pm

Twin– i said that at the old blog. Moving Huff to LF and Posey to first has to work out big time offensively or it’s a lame move……
GH– I don’t have Ublado in even one league. Ive been drafting that fucker in the 17th-20th round the last couple of years and he’s sucked, mostly. Then he goes in the 8th round this year, I wasn’t going to ever draft him that early, and he’s fucking Cy Young. Seriously, isn’t he? He’s putting up Bob Gibson numbers (without remembering Bob Gibson’s numbers I just pulled him out of my ass)……

  53. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:13 pm

I missed the games this weekend, but could Posey play left and keep Huff at first? He seems to have the athleticism and did play SS in college. I just don’t see Bengie ever sitting regardless of his numbers so it seems moot to even contemplate if Posey gets that job full time. Not suggesting anything, just wondering your thoughts…

  54. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:14 pm

    Play Ball!

  55. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:17 pm

Buster is showing that there’s more to playing first base than being a good athlete. Anyway, he will not be an above average first baseman even offensively for a couple years minimun. As a catcher, he’ll be a plus immediately and they need to either get him there regularly or send him back down before the Super-2 kicks in.
This is not about Travis, so don’t go there. If you’re for Nate or Bowker, they will not get their shot with Huff out of position in LF. As critical as I’ve been of Nate and as supportive of Bengie- the team is better with Nate in RF, Posey catching, and Huff at first than it is this way..

  56. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Posey could play anywhere but it’ll never happen. It’ll work at first or it won’t work at all……

  57. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:21 pm

twin if they are ready to wave the white flag on Benjie then I’m all for the move but I just don’t see it happening. Bochy has guys: Benjie, Rowand, those guys don’t sit. THough they fucking should……..

  58. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:30 pm

Looks like I inadvertently downloaded some smiley face toolbar before I figured this shit out. I promise to keep it to a minimum. But if you got a problem, well…

  59. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Posey might be *able* to play anywhere but he’s already shown that doesn’t necessarily mean he can play it “well”… frankly, I was shocked at how poorly he’s looked at 1B. It’s what we expected of Huff. But look, as long as he hits .500 or whatever the fuck it is, it’s cool.

  60. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:44 pm

why should you be *shocked*? How many games has he played at first base? And as you know it’s a million times faster that the MLB level. I’d love it if they’d cut ties with Benjie and play Posey at C. benjie should be a 4.5 million dollar write off. But if won’t happen until he fucks up through August……

  61. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:50 pm

I’m shocked because he doesn’t even look like a particularly good athlete out there. It also surprised me that he’s as slow as he appeared. He does look thicker so maybe that’s it.

  62. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on May 31, 2010 at 6:58 pm

to me he looked more tentative than he did slow. He’s got to be quick, at least with his hands, to play catcher. And what about the games he played at SS? I agree he doesn’t look comfortable at all in the field. I’m hoping that changes and his comfort level catches up to that sweet swing. It doesn’t look like Thrill’s at all except in it’s sweetness……

Tough one for the Kid, but he has to figure this shit out for himself.
Ubaldo is lights out right now, but rest of the team shaky on road.
Dbax finally woke up and smacked 3 out the yard vs. Barbara…
but LA got two runs back, and there’s always the battle of the pens.
Maybe LA is worse, but no Broxton in AZ.

  65. willied's avatar willied said, on May 31, 2010 at 7:35 pm

OK…if Rent’s at SS…would this be the time to revisit my brainstorm of Pablo in LF?
Uribe at 3B takes advantage of his killer arm and his lack of range is less of a detriment.
How else do you keep all these bats, including his, in the lineup : Posey C, Huff 1B, Sando, FS 2B ?

So we lost ground to all three rivals today. So much for a happy holiday. Are Memorial Days even supposed to be happy? Anyways…Buster needs to improve his D over at first, BFD. Couldn’t expect him to come right in and play like Keith Hernandez. He should be behind the dish. Good luck on pushing out Bengie at least till after the break. Haven’t reached for the panic button quite just yet, but Timmy needs to quit with all the walk bullshit. Four consecutive five walk games is totally unacceptable. How long does Runzler get to keep shooting himself in the foot without repercussions? If I had any insights on Rowand, I’d add them. I don’t. Next. That’s all I got for now…hope everyone had a nice extended weekend. Does Ted even know that he won yet? Got pretty exciting towards the end there. Go get’em tomorrow with Barry.
