A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

There’s a New Sheriff in Town….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 1, 2010

Ubaldo Jimenez, Jesus Christ. This dude has 10 wins already and what’s he got, 5 or 6 more starts before the all star game? Utterly dominated us, as he has done all season against everyone else. We didn’t learn anything from this game except there’s a clear front runner for the NL Cy Young Award. Timmy has a fun little streak of 5 walks a game, 4 games running. When the fans are saying “at least we can count on winning the Wellemeyer starts” you know we’ve got problems. It’s not an overstatement to say that if Lincecum doesn’t right himself our season is doomed….

Congratuations to DPaintings! He won the mini-contest. MrBillBill took 2nd place. You guys, send me your address and I will get you the mini-Timmy bobblehead (d-paintings) and the mini-black baseball bat (BillBill) out ASAP….

At some point later this morning I’ll add up all the June Contest players and create a page on the right hand side of the blog for them….

I’ve been out so let me know if this summary isn’t straight….

2 of 3 from the Nats, Swept the D-bags. Posey up and had a good debut. Flav deleting vulgar comments, transition to new blog. Lincecum struggling. Burell signed to AAA (really??).

Reno – pretty accurate summation. But, deleting vulgar comments? I missed that one? Is that a joke??

I too want the netbook, so on to the June contest.

DeRosa 0-4 in his first rehab at San Jose…GIDP twice.

The heck with the PH duty, Nipper. Stick him out in LF, Huff back to first and Buster behind the dish. Tell Bengie we’re gonna give him a few days to try and work things out.

Was there a 40 man move for Burrell? If not, who goes?

  13. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 1, 2010 at 12:51 pm

We have seeemed to struggle in Pittsburgh the last few years…Burrell might be a nice new face as they head out on a road trip to bond with the new teammate…

  14. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 1, 2010 at 12:55 pm

Ted— I am having some posts automatically deleted if they contain certain words. Right now, the only two words that get you zapped are the c-word and *f**wad*. More could hit the moderator cue if need be. i can also now easily zap certain bloggers who fail to meet the rather low standards of etiquette that I have here at Flap 2.0
Burrell will replace Bowker I would think. And if Rowand doesn’t get his shit together soon we will likely see Torres in CF and Pat in….RF? That could get super ugly. That would then be FOUR positions that are weaker defensively than when we started the year……

  15. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Been saying all along that if Burrell shows something at Fresno he should come on board for that road trip. I was thinking Cincinnati, a must, but a callup in time for Pittsburgh too would be fine by me. He’s just the kinda guy who should be starting in LF at Riverfront. Reds have mediocre to moderately fair SPs and some fairly good RPs. They also have a mob of position players who can go longball in that yard. SF lineup down by the Oh High Oh might be Torres, Sanchez, Sandoval, Burrell, Uribe, Huff, Posey, Bowker. Such an array might match that of the home team over those 4 games.

  16. TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Flav, I hope I know which *c* word you’re talking about. I guess I’ll find out.

  17. xoot's avatar xootsuit said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Huff in LF and Burrell in RF? Two amiable statues, leaving Torres in CF with legs going the Roadrunner’s as he speeds back and forth, tryiing to cover the vast territory between. They’ll dumpt the “Towers” commercials and license temporary rights to “beep beep.”

  18. DaddyO's avatar DaddyO said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Cal – On the 40 man, maybe DeRosa. I’m assuming Burrell’s 2 week tryout coincides with DeRosa’s attempt to show what he can do with the injury. If he needs surgery, then an easy choice to go on the 60 day DL. Otherwise, someone would need to be released.

  19. xoot's avatar xootsuit said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:14 pm

So how do you edit out dumb shit typos after you post? ;(

  20. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:22 pm

40 man roster? I see Medders being on the bottom of that list, if he is released, no one will pick him up…but they also have a couple of young prospects in the OF that dont need to be on the 40-man…

  21. gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:24 pm

If Burrell is playing the field, he is going in left…if you have to play Huff at the same time, he goes to first and Posey goes behind the dish…Whiteside’s 40-man material as well…

  22. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:30 pm

XOOT– there’s a little (edit) thing to the right of the time of the post. Click that. Upon further consideration, there’s simply no way you could have BOTH Huff and Burrell in the outfield at the same time. But, Pat’s RH so maybe he gets some starts against lefties in place of Huff. Either way, I just like Pat the Bat off the bench at this point, certainly much better than anyone from the Bowker Gang……

  23. xoot's avatar xootsuit said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:34 pm

  24. ChiPower's avatar ChiPower said, on June 1, 2010 at 1:36 pm

To bring up Burrell, Ford, Peguero (as OFers) and Velez are on the 40. So, no problems there. To bring him up to the 25, I agree that DeRosa (if surgery is required), or Bowker (he has options).

I don’t think Whitey gets moved.

In amongst all the non-stop Rowand and Molina bashing going on in the comments section on the ExtraBaggs blog, someone had an idea that, though it will never happen, I thought was kind of intriguing. SF offers a trade of Rowand to Detroit for Dontrelle Willis. I’m not sure the salary is the same, but it might be reasonably close, And maybe a change of scenery helps both players, if the Giants are looking for a creative way to get rid of Rowand…..

  52. DaddyO's avatar DaddyO said, on June 1, 2010 at 3:35 pm

The money is similar, Willis at $12 mil and Rowand at $13.6. But Willis is a FA next season. We still have Rowand two more years after this one.

  53. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on June 1, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Rowand’s best value is ‘clubhouse guy’, but so was Winn’s, and look where he is. I think his body is just getting worse each year and he just can’t do the things he expects to and is leading to even more pressing leading to even poorer results. It’s a shame because he plays hard but he is flat out killing this lineup.

If Sabean could pull off another Matt Morris deal, he should be named GM of the century.

Flying back Friday afternoon and subsequently trucking it up to Reno for a bachelor party weekend of golfing, strippers, drinking and general mayhem. All the above following a smog check and DMV renewall on the work truck, a new set of stix for the golf round and a monthly mortgage payment. I see it’s “Aaron Rowand’s a Bum” Day over on the Splash. Henry kind of set it on a tee for all the members of the peanut gallery to come outta the woods today with his, “they should try and fix him” comment. Bob Barker should be pleased, I’m sure the word “neutered” has been used at least once or twice.

  63. xoot's avatar xootsuit said, on June 1, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Henry says in today’s blog entry that he reads the twitter shit he gets. He probably skims the blog posts, to see if things are still as bad as he expects them to be, like the steward of a rotting castle looking down at the hoard of noisy squatters living near the base of the wall below, using the moat as their all-purpose toilet.

Did anyone else notice Posey dogging it down the line the first time he grounded out to 3rd on Sunday? At first I thought maybe I was being overly critical, but before I could say a word, someone sitting with me made a comment about it. The next time up he hit it to the same spot and busted his ass down the line, which was good to see. At any rate, it was awesome to be there for his 2010 coming out party. Iโ€™m still curious as hell to see who sits when Rent comes back. And I want NOTHING to do with Burrell as a starter. If you want to bring him off the bench as a right-handed Matt Stairs, I can tolerate that. Nothing more, please.

  70. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on June 1, 2010 at 5:39 pm

2 years ago Burrell hit 33 homers and had 102 walks, two dimensions missing in the Giants current lineup. Last year, he switched league’s AND was forced off the field into a full time DH role. Maybe being back in the NL, and back in the field transforms him back to closer to his previous 4 years rather than the last year and half. Can it be worse than the other options available?

  71. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on June 1, 2010 at 5:41 pm

    A) Burrell, Torres, Huff
    B) Burrell, Torres, Nate
    C) Burrell, Rowand, Torres
    D) Huff, Rowand, Torres
    E) Huff, Torres, Nate

I think that would be all the plausible options if/when Burrell is summoned (assuming Bowker goes down). If they’re gonna continue w/ Rowand (which they are), I don’t see why option ‘C’ w/ Huff back to first and Buster catching wouldn’t work.
