Full Steam Ahead into Cincy
I still can’t get over that trip through Pittsburgh. I’m still going with Franchez hitting that grand slam on Sat night and it was a clean sweep to me. The come backs were nice but the 2 things that shocked me were 1) who was contributing and 2) how Bochy managed all 3 games. I’m glad I got on the Torres Bus, however sheepishly, a month ago. This guy is proving to be one of the rarest major league players around: a guy who doesn’t blossom until his early thirties. Just pray his legs hold together and we have got our leadoff hitter for the rest of the year…….
Bochy showed no fear of ruffling any vet-feathers. Molina and Rowand aren’t going to have all Summer to stumble their ways out of their slumps. I don’t think pulling Wilson was a message to him, I think he’d thrown 35 pitches and Bochy just thought it was time. Wilson is our closer through 2012. He might get a break if he’s really awful but he’s our guy. The ship sails or sinks with him at the helm……
Quick Bryce Harper thought: lose the eye black, chump. Until he ditches that ridiculous look he’s nothing more than a circus freak…..
Thoughts on the draft today? It’s tough to get too jazzed about pick 24. I’ve said this before: Sabean’s total focus on the draft for the rest of his time here in SF should be on drafting HITTERS. He can’t get the FA’s to come to SF but if he drafts them they HAVE to play for us. We’ve got pitchers to burn and when we run out of those it’ll be a hell of a lot easier to get a FA pitcher to come to SF than a FA hitter……
ROOM B explanation: that’s Michael’s baby. He’s got free rein of the room whether he chooses to re-post on of your posts there or put you on a list there. try and have fun with it everyone, that’s what it’s *supposed* to be….
Oh. I just looked ar Room B. I guess I should have posted that over there
I have missed almost all of his home starts except that one where he pitched well and got the hit that kick started the offense when they hadn’t scored in like 22 innings. Other than that, all the starts I’ve seen from him have sucked. I guess I’m just setting the bar low this week in Cincy, at least for what the starters will do. If they’re all going to give up 4-7 runs why not send Welly out and hope for the best? He might at least eat up 4 innings or so. Sorry, i know I sound like a huge pussy giving games away, I just think this is going to be a tough series for us. I’d take 2 wins and be totally thankful….
I’d be happy with a split series as well
There’s nothing fragile about Bum’s psyche. That’s a fantasy. And if you think “confidence” was Zito’s problem during the “early years” of his linterminable contract tenure here then I suspect you don’t have much insight into the psyche of a filthy rich sports star.
Remember this article, earlier this year?
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/ann_killion/04/28/zito/index.html
Here’s an excerpt:
“Zito also did some feng shui in the offseason. His Southern California winters have been full of parties, music and modeling, making him fodder for tabloids and infuriating fans who saw him as less than focused on baseball.
“Zito is still the artsy, philosophical guy he’s always been. But he made some basic changes.
“‘I stopped bringing people up to my house late at night, I stopped letting people into my house that I didn’t know,” he said. “I just started to focus on things that would add to me as a person instead of what was fun in the moment.'”
Twin, AlleyKat, Denny, Macdog, Kristin, Michah, and Tedspe, one of us will be the June contest winner, the rest will be staying at the hotel pictured in Room B.
I think it’s time that I suggest that those who don’t want to see Bumgarner on Thursday should go see Chuckles in the other room…
BTW, I am not proposing what they will do, only what they should do… so I don’t wanna hear any “I was right” bullshit if they send Sickemeyer out there on Thursday..
Madison is due to start tonight. If they scratch him or pull him after 2 or 3, I think we’ll see him in Cincinatti.. the Iron Joe idea is REALLY sick, BTW. He’s still a legit rotation candidate. You absolutely DO NOT bring him up and then send him back down if he’s bombed. That’s Room XXXXXXX.. whether it’s Joe or Madison, they go “all in”.. the kind of guy you sacrifice is Matt Kinney…
Yeah, that line-up looks a bit familiar. Fuck, I even nailed the batting order.
I am with 3bagger…I would rather see Nate in the line-up instead of Rowand.
Not sure anyone responded…but Wellemeyer (if he pitches in Cincy) will be throwing the 4th game…not the 3rd.
Why Rohand continues in the lineup borders on management incompetence. According to KNBR today, he’s 9 for his last 91, not one walk since May 16, and 5 RBIs since the last Ice Age. The dude is a joke at the plate. There is no excuse for him playing regularly except 12 million reasons. He looks like he expects to make an out when he gets up there. If I hear Kruk and Kuip say again that he takes 700 swings a day, I’m going to hurl. So DON”t take 700 swings a day! Until further notice, Torres should take over center, and you rotate Burrell, Huff n Puff, and Nate around him. Rohand to the DL for tendinitis somewhere, anywhere…
And I’ll just get this out of the way now: I’m not Lady gaga about seeing Bum pitch. He was less than impressive when he came up last year, certainly didn’t wow me with any of his stuff. Then he comes to camp out of shape or whatever, spent the off season banging his new wife instead of working on his pitches, and can’t get ANYONE out in the Spring. He’s put up some decent numbers in AAA since but he doesn’t look or feel anything other than #3 starter, at best. If I’m wrong, excellent. I’ll happily eat crow. But I think this guy’s been all hype since we got him and he’s going to have to BRING it at the mlb level if I’m going to raise my expectations for him……
BTW, BF you’re preaching my sermon on the draft. As I’ve said manyX before, Sabes has had his “plan” for the organization 180 degrees wrong. FA pitchers will come to ATT for the cash and a pitcher’s park. Good FA hitters (not stiffs like Rohand) will not come, regardless of the cash thrown at them. We’ve seen it. The Giants draft should be imbalanced way towards hitters. If Sabes takes a pitcher at #24 today, I’m going to hurl again…
I’d love to see Bum come up this week and pitch well in Cinci…. I just don’t think its going to happen, and I can see the reasoning of why it wouldn’t…. And I know ALL the games count… Why is it conceding a loss though if Wellmeyer pitches?
Because he has a 10.5 road ERA. I guess if the Giants score 11, they could win behind Wellemeyer.
Come on, be fair. Well’ll be gone by the 4th or 5th after giving up 6 or so runs. So the Giants could win behind him scoring only 7 (or so).
Thats what I am talking about…. some optimism…. And we are a crazy catch away from winning last start…. who knows…
Of Rohand, Molina, and Rent were DFA’d or traded for donuts and coffee tomorrow, which two would be missed the LEAST? IMO, the first two, with Rohand not missed at all…
Flav – sure it was a limited appearance (for MadBum), but 1 start, 10 IP, a 1.80 ERA, and 1.10 WHIP is pretty damned good by anyone’s standards. I think the kid is/brings a bit more to the dance than you give credit. And it has been found that it was not his off-season that had him off earlier this year, but a kink in his pitching movement. And his AAA stats, for a hitter’s league, are actually looking pretty damned good.
He’s had 8 fucking straight starts with 2 ER or less and the two ER was twice, the rest ONE or less. There’s no SANE reason to wait any longer. Wellemeyer is toast and the deal is: HE fucking knows it.DFA the fuckwad and let him catch on with KC or Pittsburgh…
Snarkk: you’re just a serial puker, dude. You’ve got some on your shoes, BTW…
Snarkk, my addendum to what you said is that FA pitchers will come to SF based upon their “true value” and will be paid acccordingly, nothing more, nothing less. Conversely, the evidence is fairly clear that FA hitters do not want to come to the Phone Park . . . unless, they are paid an exorbitant amount of cash, i.e., beyond their “true value.”
The same “Bizarro” world exists at Coors field, except in reverse . . . albeit, U. Jimenez iis the exception.
Consequently, your point about the draft and what should be emphasized as our needs is duly noted.
Waitin for that one Oracle…. You guys are mental masturbating about Wellemeyer, and he deserves the permanent hook, but the continued playing of Molina and Rohand on a regular basis is/will be way more destructive to this team’s success…
looks to me like the wheels are in motion in terms of Rowand and Molina losing playing time. About freaking time…..
Blade, I don’t find your conclusions indicate a “Bizarro” world. They are dead on right, and show that players are logical in always choosing where to go based on their own self interest in stats and future contract dollars. What’s bizarre is that this Giants management hasn’t figured out that calculus…
Here’s what Rodney Dangerfield would say about another Todd Wellemeyer start:
Bring us a pitcher of beer every seven minutes until somebody passes out.And then bring one every ten minutes.
Fantastic! And this is what he’s say about Molina:
That’s a nice shade of green you’re wearing. If you had pockets you’d be a pool table. You should try my Tall & Fat store. No offense.”
Pay attention to the kind of puke numbers it takes for ANYONE to bail on the kind of money Rowand is making. If Andruw had put up Rowand numbers for LA he’d still be waddling around CF there. If Burrell had put up Rowand numbers, he’d still be the Tampa DH… Aaron is getting there now, he needed a big first half after last year. My guess is he’ll sit a couple games in Cincy unless he goes off tonight.. and sit more from there…
Lots of guys have sat or been dfa’d with big contracts. Pierre and Gary Matthews come to mind
Posey is making inroads in starting behind the plate, and it’s about time. Catcher ratings at CBSSports have Whiteside at 33, Bengie at 24 and dropping like a stone, and Whitside has 4 HRs vs. 2 for Bengie, plus El Presidente is catching Dirrty all the time and is better defensively, with more speed. Can a 4 for 52 Bengie patented whine to the beat guys or on his blog be far behind?….
MY only hope for cutting Molina or Rowand is the fact they did so with a year left on Dave Roberts’s contract a couple years ago. However, being that Rowand is making more and has more years left, it’s highly unlikely. Molina on the other hand….
You didn’t pay attention, Flavoro. None with that much money and with Rowand’s full year numbers. I never said none were DFAed, I pointed out that those who were or were bailed on had far worse numbers than Rowand has put up. Juan Pierre? When was he DFAed? He was fucking traded. As I said though, Rowand is about there.
Well, worrying about a big contract FA hitter coming here is absurd, given the lack of success of those types. Secondly, the hope is they won’t need to sign a BIG $$$ FA hitter if all goes as planned.
With the success of guys like Uribe and Huff, they should only go after the low priced undervalued types, IMO. The others rarely pay off.
Anyone still want Holliday or Bay for $100+m 8 yrs?
Affeldt available tonight. Wilson? Bochy hesitated then said he’d probably close w/ Mota tonight to give him a day.
Rohand will not be traded or DFAd this season. No way. His OBP can go below .250 and he’s still on the squad, or he suddenly hits the DL for Giant flu. Sabes will never admit in mid-season that he made such a gigantic money mistake. They are hoping he suddenly finds another stretch of decent hitting, so that the fans and media forget for a while how bad he is, then they put that decision off to November/December. Barring a miracle second half, no way he’s back next year. Now, with Posey up and Torres actually looking like a leadoff guy, and Franchez on fire, the long-delayed media attention to his putridness is getting a little uncomfortable. Still, the dude refuses to change his stoopid stance/impatient AB approach/go oppo, or anything that players normally do when in a slump as deep as the Grand Canyon. He SHOULD get better, how long can you keep hitting at a 9/91 clip?…
Given the Cincy park, Huff should get min 2 taters in this series…
At least Rohand’s unproductive out was a short fly to right field. Sign of progress…
The Royals took Christian Colon with the fourth pick. He was one of the more promising targets I heard the Giants had in their sights.
Zito’s drive of the game! Hell Yes!
Bar-ry, Bar-ry!
Maybe Zito should’ve been in the 8 spot, huh?
PH Zito for Rohand in the next game Rohand starts…
It was medium deep, Snarkk even feels the need to minimize an already unproductive AB. You have it bad, Snarkkles…
Don’t get too excited about Rowand’s “progress,” that AB just might cement him in the LU for the next week.
On the draft, MLB needs to get out of the dark ages and institute the trading of picks for other picks, players, etc. It would make draft day way more interesting and allow a team like the Giants to maybe move up from their #24 to pick a guy for need. But, not until Sabes is gone, that’d be too much for him to process…
A little wacky, but productive.
wtf happened? Both mlb gameday and espn gametracker froze. Uribe drove in one or more runs somehow, apparently.
Giants ketching some breaks from the 1st base ump tonight has helped already.DP ball on the Reds saved a tie as Hernandez beat Sanchez’s throw and Panda’s should have been a DP that he blew also, leading to 2 runs.
The replay on Sanchezs’ ball was clear the OTHER way, Kat. The guy was out by half a step…
Buster isn’t totally perfect, I guess. Terrible slide…
Shit I only saw that play once with no sound but posey looked safe there
Xooty, Uribe ripped a rope into right field over the 2nd baseman’s head, scoring guys on 2nd and 3rd, then got thrown out at first after getting hung up between first and second on the cut off. Uribe continues to produce…
If Posey were up with the club after ST, the SFers probaby would have won at least 2 or 3 of those one run losses. The league doesn’t know him yet, but this guy looks like a 5-year vet taking ABs..
Wtf was rowand doing there? And why the fuck isn’t torres in cf? That hAS to be a move that’s coming right?
How’s this for obvious: four runs ain’t gonna be enough tonight.
What’s it going to take, a minimum 7 runs to win this?
Bruce is a beast, I think he’ll have 30 bombs by the end of the yr
Jay Bruce is a fucking B movie monster
They outta move the fences out by 5 feet, at least. This park is a joke…
“Wtf was rowand doing there?”
Obviously someone forgot to tell him the John Madden/Steve Mariucci Bocce Ball Tournament was LAST week.
Isn’t that Bruce Campbell, Bozo?
Shit, what’d I miss? 4-3 G men?
Keep the cuirve down, Barry. . . That was a strike ,. . .
Right, Snarkk. Give Sabes shit for something he can’t do (trade up for a higher pick).
Brilliant.
Barry with the 2 run single?
Hey Chuck, I need the table at the back wall in room B (I like to have my back to the wall, I guess that’s why they call it, the back wall). Can you move me from the front door?
Man, I thought Andres had enough of that one..
Soooo close. Torres went for the downs. Temptation won. Single wouldda been nice there but the pitch must have been just enough outside of the middle of the plate that he couldn’t drive it.
I think Andres hit that one too well. Straight as a string 3-iron. It’s the lob wedge shots that carry.
2 strikes, hits are killers…
“that he couldn’t drive it.”
Huh? He fucking smoked it..
Barry barry barry, NOT fucking belt-high with the floater . . .
Piece of shit inning there by Zito.
Good God. There’s a great 1-2 pitch . . . . NOT
Twin, why did Bochy leave him in after a 4 pitch walk and then another walk?? It was obviouse to me he had lost his touch.
Kevin: he made several good pitches to Hernandez and then a couple good ones to Cairo. I don’t have an issue with leaving him in
Now is the time we need to take advantage of this bandbox. Exercise what power we have and go yard…
Giants take Gary Brown, a CF from Cal St.-Fullerton.
Uribe is a machine out there.
Got to love it . . .
Pepto and tequila coming up
Hold this fucking lead, dammit.
bangin’ with these guys, I love it. That’s what you have to do here. And some of you want to see Bumgarner deal with this joke park? Bad idea…..
TF, cool, I know it is hard to determine when to pull a pitcher. That is why I am not a real manager, just an arm chair one. LOL
Mac Dog…I sure hope that’s not a bad omen taking this kid.Center Fielder and same College Rohand attended.
Sweet !
Buster nails him . . .
new post, new first round pick….
