A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Today’s Thread–Mad Bum. When? If?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 14, 2010

I understood why the Giants didn’t start Bumgarner in Cincinnati. It was on the road in a notorious hitters park. I get it. But I am not understanding why he’s not starting against the punchless Orioles at home tomorrow. Iron Head Joe instead? He’ll probably do fine. But this would seem to me to be the perfect opportunity to usher in MadBum to the 5 spot, a spot he could lock down for the rest of the season. I guess my question is, if not Tuesday against the worst team in baseball at home….then….when?

We’ve seen the good of Edgar (beginning of the season) and the not-so-good (shortly thereafter) – if we can get some ‘somewhere in the middle’ consistency, he will add to the lineup. He is one of the few that knows how to work a pitcher.

I don’t put much stock into UZR ratings, etc, as to me it’s akin to the ‘electronic strike zone box’ – anything but perfect in determining what they are trying to measure. UZR had Huff as a bad 1B as well.

Kevin, it’s not over because 3Bagger is also Yogi. This has become insane and Flavor is allowing it.

“UZR had Huff as a bad 1B as well. ” Not true, it had him about average at 1B..
UZR is a totally accepted stat by GMs, talent evaluators, agents, scouts, everybody but those who refuse to see.

    You.

Everyone else moves around. Uribe to 3rd, Panda to 1st. Huff to left. Posey catches. Bengie and Burrell to the bench. Or occaisionally Uribe to 2nd. Huff to 1st. Posey catching. Panda at 3rd. Sanchez sits. Burrell in LF.

For all the talk of this causing problems, all this shifting around has resulted in the Giants having the best defense in the NL right now, believe it or not.

Rent sits once in a while and Uribe plays SS.

    You gave yourself away, SOAB.

Sorry to refute you TF but Huff’s UZR going into the year at 1b was -7.7 (i said 7.4 – memory not as good I guess) – average is considered 0.

I’m thinking the only time Rent *should* start, is when Buster is catching, allowing for Uribe-3B and Panda-1B. If Bochy sticks with the pitcher/catcher “buddy-buddy plan**.” That would equate to twice during the rotation when Zito and the #5 du jour start.

**Subject to change should Bochy sit Molina for the Tim/Matt starts. Just don’t see that now.

TF- I know you think you’r not a god, but THE GOD, but you’re wrong. I’m not Stu or Yogi on any blog I’ve ver posted on.

And with the Giants at first he’s at 1.6. In LF 55.9. Not sure how these numbers really tell a story…

Yeah Huff and Uribe have been a revelation.Their tied for the team lead in HR’S with 10.Uribe in RBI’S,Huff in avg and slugging(.531) plus his OBPS .926! They’re on a pace for 50 HR’s and 190 RBI’S.Shit wouldn’t that be something.

Yet their value doesn’t end there.Matt Cain was asked where the Giants would be without Huff and Uribe and his initial response was completely unrelated to anything either does with a bat.

“Probably not as funny.”Cain said.”Those guys bring such a different character in the clubhouse.”

Huff and Uribe are the clubhouse clowns.( no pun intended Bozo)They crack jokes, pull pranks, talk trash.Uribe does it with a grin,Huff with a twinkle in his eye.

I just love the debate about having too many players to play…better than last season when people thought we were as many as 3 players away…

Flavor had said to leave the Rent thing alone, Yogi. So fucking DO IT. Only you would hold onto that like a fuckdog.

Yeah, Huff is the only player I’ve heard on radio interviews that isn’t just tired cliches. i mean, i realize why players do that but he’s a refreshing departure

  18. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on June 14, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Sorry, no Yogi here. And I’m not sure what a fuckdog is either. Maybe you can enighten all of us TF. And I love the way you call out “character assassination” of Rent because I said Uribe and Burress should have started over him last year. How is that character assissination? All I said was that he was hurt and wasn’t productive because of it. If you asked Edgar, I think he’d agree.

3bag: I didn’t say YOU did unless you ARE Yogi. I said not not to continue what Yogi was doing..
Huff career was -6 runs from average over 150 ganes. That’s “about average” in my book.

Wsw,Yeah thats a good point.Huff, Uribe,Torres, Posey and now a healthy Sanchez sure makes it easier to look at then last year’s team.

  24. pickledgringo's avatar pickledgringo said, on June 14, 2010 at 5:20 pm

3bag – ‘not sure what a fuckdog is either’ – I can only assume it’s a derivative term of endearment TF throws around. And don’t be thinking there is a bed in Room B for you, there’s two of them – one is mine, and then a guest bed. There’s usually someone over for a sleepover so you’ll have to spot the vacancy sign and sign in with the manager if there is a bed to let.

I love what Huff has done as much as anybody and we are ALL happy with his defense. But don’t suddenly pretend he’s terrific. He’s better than the total turd we were led to believe he was. But he’s hardly GOOD. He doesn’t fuck things up is all.

Also off topic here, but relevant to the populace of this blog. And a bit of background – I only became aware of the Splash blog around mid-season last year. It seemed to be a battle of the Gs fans vs the rest of the world, better defined as Dogger and A’s fans, as best I could determine.

So why is the A’s Drumbeat so benign, and does the LA Times not have a blog of their own for like-minded Dogger fans to comingle? Don’t people like to hang with those who mostly see the world is somewhat the same way?

It is so completely amusing to drop into the Splash now and then to watch that battle again and again, night after night. I don’t fully understand how it began and how it evolved. A link to a Splash blog retrospective would be interesting to me.
