A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Lose Again and Greg Papa is a JERK

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 30, 2010

I'm not really interested in discussing the details of last night's game. We sucked. Again...
Did any of you catch Greg Papa on the pre-game show on Comcast? According to those of you who saw it, Papa led into an interview with Panda who was explaining his base running blunder from the night before by CHUCKLING ABOUT NEEDING A TRANSLATOR. Fuck Greg Papa. How DARE he disrespect Pablo Sandoval with a dumb comment like that. Panda is a 23 year old kid who is actively working on learning a second language so that he can, among other things, communicate directly with his fans. To make fun of his grasp of his second language is reprehensible. There are lots of athletes who never bother to learn the language and that's fine, that's their choice. But to openly mock a young player who is trying to learn and practice a difficult language is something that Papa needs to be held accountable for. A suspension without pay should be where Comcast starts. And Papa should publicly apologize for his stupid, racist comment though you know he won't. From now on when I hear Greg Papa's voice I'll only be thinking of Larry Krueger.....
If you want to send the operations team an email about any of this you can contact them here:

Finally, regarding the July Contest, we are still actively looking for participants. The Contest: pick the Giants all stars (or all star) EXACTLY (for instance, if you pick Lincecum and Wilson it has to be just those two guys, you lose if Molina makes it too :) ). First tie breaker will be who wins the all star game. Second tie breaker will be total runs scored in the game. We are closing the contest July 1st at Noon so get me your picks ASAP. Fuck the Giants. They’ve been the Dodger’s bitch for so long they can’t remember when they weren’t. Screw them and their losing ways.

    Go Niners.

All good things come to an end. Sooner or later all bad things do too, i spose. If the Giants were under the gun last night, today it’s a double-barrel .12 gauge loaded with 00-Buck.

Drrrty against Vicente Padilla. Time for Aaron’s revenge against that low-grade headhunter. Proper approach would be for him to pick up a thick-handled bat and line one off his kneecap for an opposite field double.

No way a team with as much talent as it has can be that bad, but its been happening lately. They need to get it out of their system starting today. Tomorrow that 11 game trek begins at Colorado and nobody needs to be reminded that the only reason the Giants are still as close as 4.5 games out is that the Pads have run up on the Rox at their HOME ballpark. Colorado looks like they are making their annual run. A loss today and SF could be dead meat for the season with the no-rest eleven gamer looming.

Team needs to pick it up today and pick each other up in the process. Best description of their struggles is that they have not been playing as a team. They’ve been out of synch. Beating the ugly, ugly, ugly Padilla today and drowning the Dogs could get this season turned back around ~ just in the nick of time.

Let me ask you this. Of all the Giants starters, which would you not want on the mound to end a losing skein? For me, it’s the ever-erratic Sanchez. You just never know what you’re going to get with that guy. His entire resume consists of one no-hitter.

What are we, 0-5 against LA this year? What a joke.

  5. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:46 am

Really weird. Giants lose to another team. The opponents lose players to injury. Red Sox blew the Giants away 2 games to 1, but lost THREE players to injuries in the process. Last night the LaBumbos beat SF, but Manny blew out his hammy. Can anyone explain this trend? This keeps up and other teams will not wanna play the Giants, not from fear of losing the game, but worried about their stars going down to the jinx.

It’s pretty simple – can’t win in your division, you won’t win period.

I come back to the same thing – this team has it’s moments because it has talent, but like the last few years, it goes through prolonged stretches of playing flat and uninspired baseball, and always at the most inopportune times. We all have our theories on why this is but bottom line, the ‘on field culture’ needs to change if they have any realistic chance of changing their fortunes.

The ledge is looking really good, again.

JBat – agree…not the starter I would choose to try and stop a slide. I won’t even post Sanchez’s stats against the Bums (think someone posted all of the starters’ stats against LaBumbinos the other day)…regardless…it ain’t pretty to say the least. But, maybe they beat the odds, and begin to get the monkey off their back beginning today.

    Key to yesterday’s game (IMO): 0-3 w/RISP. Bums – 3-13 w/RISP. And again, the DPs didn’t help.

As adamant as I have been against talking trades…welll I’m not sure this team can compete and go deep with the current stable of horses.

Here’s an interesting piece from MLB Trade Rumors:

We all know how hard SF is to watch when they play like this….offense is stagnant, ptichers make just the “one bad pitch” leaving a ball up to the wrong guy at the wrong time, etc. But other teams have been up and down too…LA had lost 8 of 10 before snapping out of it at our expense. Rox had lost 3 of 4 before slapping Pads around. pads btw have dropped two in a row at home.

I don’t watch Papa’s show…I’ve haven’t liked the guy since he did Warriors games and was busy telling stories instead of describing the action on radio. Again, this is all about him making a joke out of Sando, one of the most likeable personalities in a long time, which is fucked up.

Wonder how Tito Fuentes and Giants latin broadcast team feels about this one. You would think that after all the wonderful things latin ballplayers have done over the years for this team, including the only Dominican in the HOF who was just here, journalists would be above this shit. If I was a latin player and Papa came near me, I’d tell him in no uncertain terms what I thought of him and what he could do with his mic….and ask him if he “understood”.

One of the best things about this blog is the perspective members can shed on things when it looks bad, helping to talk me and Chi off the ledge. 😀

I just hate losing to the Dodgers more than anything in all of sports. The Niners put the bad Ram years to rest eons ago; the Warriors have been irrelevant for so long that 1975 is a faint memory at this point. But the effin’ Dodgers keep sticking it to the Giants. It just sticks in my craw.

  22. JBat's avatar JBat said, on June 30, 2010 at 9:20 am

Twin, great post of the day. That’s a typical Giant’s season in a nutshell; one week you feel like doing a triple gainer off the Transamerica, the next you’re on cloud nine. 😀

bozo – I was thinking that but Uribe really needs a breather. Give him a day off. He could come off the bench late if needed.

The club is heading into an 11 game stretch with the offense totally stagnant. Give Ishikawa and ass crack of daylight. Put Posey behind the dish. Sure they are small moves but Bochy really needs to shake things up.

Nice topic, Flavor. Interesting segment was Carney Lansford basically saying, “Bengie and Panda went from 45 hr/170 rbi to the bench – and they fired *my* redass?”

Didn’t we all circle this part of the schedule as rough seas? Calm down. Despite my past rants about the hitters, nagging concern is the starters leaking oil this month. If Lincecum, Cain, and Sanchez yield a mortal 3-4 runs per outing, the baserunning and slg% holes will hurt more.

  25. ChiPower's avatar ChiPower said, on June 30, 2010 at 9:53 am

Swan dive? Fuck that…I’m going Triple Lindy all the way! Seriously, I know it is way too early to panic. All teams hit rough stretches. Hell, all of the NL West has had their fair-share of late. I realize the team is only 4.5 out, and a run in the other direction could go a long ways towards making everything copacetic. But, the one stat that sticks out that I feel needs to change (if this team is to be considered a viable candidate for October baseball) is their record against teams with winning records (16-23). That and I would like to see the road record improve and move closer to .500.

Need some good mojo to get off to that 11 game roadie, and kicking the living-shit outta Padilla and the Fucking Bums would be an excellent place to start.

You guys are too funny on this Casey Blake thing. The Giants just need to get his ass out, instead of giving up game winning dingers to him. In the history of Giants / Dodgers rivalry, he’s no more than a pimple on the butt. Now, giving Padilla a fastball to the ribs, that is some payback that makes some baseball sense, and might get the Giants fired up a little, which Bonehead obviously cannot do …

  32. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 30, 2010 at 10:44 am

From everything I’ve seen on it from the team’s perspective, they do not believe that Padilla was throwing at Rowand. The way this “rivalry” has gone of late, the last fucking thing needed is to fire these fucks up anymore by drilling somebody. Win the goddamn game and then key the fucking Dodger team bus if retaliation is a must.

  33. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 30, 2010 at 10:51 am

  34. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on June 30, 2010 at 10:58 am

I keep going back and forth on the Padilla retaliation thing. If the Giants had won the first two gaames, I’d say let it go. But I’m in a pissy mood right now and looking for anything to cheer me up. Drilling Padilla would definitely help, but what’s needed most of all is a win.

  35. Jed's avatar Jed said, on June 30, 2010 at 11:01 am

Since LA has pimpslapped SF past few years, we actually need a Dennis Rodman type game-changer. Get LA off its game, distracted. Kemp, Furcal, and Blake are hotheads – clearly marks to do something stupid in response.

The only real chance we had in the late-70s was raining beer on Reggie Smith in RF. Next thing you know, a couple of walks and Mike Ivie sees a fat melon grooved down broadway …

  36. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 30, 2010 at 11:13 am

As far as Blake, Snarkklefuck is correct. The guy is a journeyman performer, a hitter who can handle exactly one pitch. Unfortunately, it’s the same pitch our guys keep throwing him 😉
“His entire resume consists of one no-hitter.” I know you’re frustrated, JBat, but don’t be silly.
For the last year, Dirty is:
    32 G 12-9 3.22 ERA 184.2 IP 129 H 85 BB 198 K 1.16 WHIP
It was the no-hiiter that HIGHLIGHTS his resume.
    Compare to Cain:
    34 G 11-13 3.06 ERA 224 IP 188 H 67 BB 162 K 1.4 WHIP
    Zits:
    34 G 13-10 3.50 ERA 208 IP 183 H 80 BB 161 K 1.26 WHIP
    Lincecum:
    32 G 15-8 2.85 ERA 215 IP 162 H 82 BB 246 K 1.14 WHIP

So Tim, even with his recent struggles is the clear #1, in FACT Sanchez, Cain, and Zito are pretty much “Tri-Twos”…

It’s an unlikely coincidence.

  38. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 30, 2010 at 11:15 am

  41. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 30, 2010 at 11:35 am

SF won’t drill Padilla. This “rivalry” pretty much exists only in the minds of the fans now, not the players. These players nowadays could care less about a supposed rivalry, and it’s perfectly logical that they don’t give a crap. Most players now move from team to team, they make tons of coin wherever they play, and they don’t grow up in the minors with a strong organizational sense of rivalry. Lasorda was right when he said on Comcast when he was up here a week or so ago that the players don’t learn rivalries in the minors anymore, and free agency has essentially killed the old rivalries across baseball from the players’ perspective…

  42. 3bagger's avatar 3bagger said, on June 30, 2010 at 11:41 am

I hear you Snarkk. For the reasons you mentioned, the rivalry has definitely been diluted, but I think the players still feel it. If nothing else, the Dodgers are in the division and the stands are filled with much more enthusiastic (or obnoxious) fans for Dodger games than the Rox, Pads, or D-bags. That has to have some effect on the players’ psyches.

2-0 advantage and the Panda slightly reaches for one low and away. Terrible discipline.
What the hell happened to looking middle half and waiting for your pitch. Too over anxious.

Picking out one guy for making an out is getting real fucking old. Many of Panda’s hits are reaching for low and away and driving it to left. Stick to splitting men open for throwing inside, Denny…

Maybe Torres can advise Burrell on the efficacy of keeping the ball in front of you…

Alright let’s get those runs back and MORE.

Although in fact the ball was a can ‘o corn on the fly. Overall Burrell will still help them but the idiots here denying he was a liability on defense can mosey over to room B. I’ll be in to administer to you soon.
