A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Lose Again and Greg Papa is a JERK

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 30, 2010

I'm not really interested in discussing the details of last night's game. We sucked. Again...
Did any of you catch Greg Papa on the pre-game show on Comcast? According to those of you who saw it, Papa led into an interview with Panda who was explaining his base running blunder from the night before by CHUCKLING ABOUT NEEDING A TRANSLATOR. Fuck Greg Papa. How DARE he disrespect Pablo Sandoval with a dumb comment like that. Panda is a 23 year old kid who is actively working on learning a second language so that he can, among other things, communicate directly with his fans. To make fun of his grasp of his second language is reprehensible. There are lots of athletes who never bother to learn the language and that's fine, that's their choice. But to openly mock a young player who is trying to learn and practice a difficult language is something that Papa needs to be held accountable for. A suspension without pay should be where Comcast starts. And Papa should publicly apologize for his stupid, racist comment though you know he won't. From now on when I hear Greg Papa's voice I'll only be thinking of Larry Krueger.....
If you want to send the operations team an email about any of this you can contact them here:

Finally, regarding the July Contest, we are still actively looking for participants. The Contest: pick the Giants all stars (or all star) EXACTLY (for instance, if you pick Lincecum and Wilson it has to be just those two guys, you lose if Molina makes it too :) ). First tie breaker will be who wins the all star game. Second tie breaker will be total runs scored in the game. We are closing the contest July 1st at Noon so get me your picks ASAP. 6 bloops and a blast . . .

OK. Venting over. Shit home stand.

Straight to the buzzsaw that is Colorado. Seeing as they are our closest competition, a split is pretty much mandatory. 1-3, and we are getting buried deep . . .

Is anybody else tired of 90 year old balldudes stumbling all over the field? Guess it is kind of like the way the Giants play. Just kind of gives me that defeat look before they start a game.

Not even the end of the first half, and now people have one foot on the ledge and the other foot dangling over the edge. Reminds me of the Dirty Harry movie Harry goes up there pisses the guy off and saves him!! that is what twin is going to do for you guys.

Well, a lot of people (me included), said that this was the toughest stretch of the year, with Boston and LA at home, then the 11 game roadie.

So far, not so good. They scuffle on theis roadie, and they could very well be 12+ games behind.

    Say goodnight, Irene . . .

What makes everyone crazy is when it is against the Dodgers!! I don’t really hate the Dodgers, I hate losing to the Dodgers, especially when I know the Giants are the better team. That is what makes these losses so shitty!!

I just realized that tonight is the slumber party on the field. For what it costs, man that would suck after such a horrible game.

I had a 1pm meeting cancelled in the east bay this afternoon. Instead of telling my boss, I played like it was on and went to the game. The meeting could have easily taken the whole day and there was really no need for me to go back to the office. After the two homers in the 5th, I actually went back to work. That’s how bad it was.

Martin Perez-LH minor league pitcher. know nothing about him, so-so numbers

Beats a kick in the head. His career numbers look OK. No idea what he’s got. Big kid, 6-3 210. Just going by looks, probably grew up on the farm across from Bumgarner’s.

  55. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:35 pm

He’s no savior, this is in the ballpark of the Benitez for the Refrigerator Mover. Ray’s got a little more upside. I can dig this, you never know. Texas is a tough place to pitch in. I’d like to see him walk less people…..

  56. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Flav makes a good point, “Get him out of Tex and he might like pitching in our park.” Isn’t the Rangers’ park a “band box?”

  57. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Just getting Buster behind the plate is justification enough. It makes a couple positions better. Now: who is going to get more time because of this? Needeless to say, I’d like to see Ishikawa get more but it could be Burrell/Rowand/Torrres OF and Huff back to 1B..

  58. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Lefties hit him at a .344 clip past three years. No dice there. July and August have been his best months however.

  59. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:44 pm

lefties would hit him at less than that at ATT. He’s done some closing, probably not suited for it. I like him as a potential set up guy. If he doesn’t work out just Garko his ass and we’re in the same boat we’re in now. ANd Twin’s right, this is all about getting Posey behind the plate. I would totally be down with leaving Huff in the OF and seeing if Ishikawa could bring it at first but I don’t think for a second they’re going to do it. This gives them a chance to get their beloved Rowand back into the line up. Bochy probably had to pull over on the way home to beat off on the side of 101…..

  60. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:46 pm

Bengie, as I told you this spring, wasn’t going to be here past 7/31 anyway. Getting anything at all, unloading the contract, AND getting Posey where he belongs: priceless.

  61. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I just got this off of Yahoo regarding C. Ray . . . “Perhaps the move from hitter-friendly Texas to pitcher-friendly San Francisco will help Ray cut back on his walks and home runs allowed. Ultimately, he’s not the same pitcher he was with the Orioles before Tommy John surgery, so the value the Giants get in this trade will likely be determined by the PTBNL.”

This is a salary dump, plain and simple. I wouldn’t bank on anything the Giants get for him amounting to shit. Molina had little trade value. Like Twin said, it gets Posey behind the plate and that’s where the real value lies.

  69. swickman's avatar swickman said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:56 pm

I liked Bengie and for some reason I was happy when they resigned him this winter. But his time had come. I wish him the best, too, but since we’re not ever going to win another NL West game, we might as well get playing time for our stud catcher.

  71. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on June 30, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Addition by subtraction. Folks here was gettin awful tired of the Grand Tetons juggling along as Bengie attempted to make a sure triple into a possible double. Maybe he’ll even pop a couple out in the Texas bandbox. He should like the Carribean-like heat factor down there too. Was just yesterday when i got on about Posey’s lack of hitting lately probably being in some way connected to his not catching.

Spose Ray was about as good as SF could get for Molina, though Baggs noted there was also a PTBNL. At least this time it was not “or cash” as happened with Freddy L. Not too keen about Ray’s BB propensity. We already have enough ‘walkers’ to outfit an old folks’ home. Oh well, his ERA is not too shabby and maybe the cool bayside air will give him a lift.

Molina’s ass dragging along and his lack of pop made him a sorry fit for even the 8-hole.In the AL with the Dink Hitter rule, he may perk up a bit. So might the Giants attack as they head off on that long trek with their tails between their legs. If they could possibly split with Colorado this place will perk up even more than it has with the news on Bengie.

    Go git em, Buster!

Stix, I was thinking that Bengie would also be a DH (or dink hitter as you put it . . . grin). However, it looks like they have every intention of having Bengie playing full time or at least giving him an opportunity to do so. I just checked the Rangers’ roster and Ramirez and Treanor are playing miserably. Consequently, it looks like a good opportunity for Molina.
