A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Wake Me Up When it’s Tomorrow

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 14, 2010

God I hate the All Star Break. It’s funny to feel so deprived of baseball and it’s only been a couple of days. Somehow we make it all Winter long without the game….

Very entertaining game last night, one that the players seemed to really get into in the later innings.  I still would have liked to see Timmy show his stuff on the national stage but whatever, now he pitches tomorrow….

Congrats to SAN DOG who won the All Star Game Contest and another computer from Michael…..

There’s no rational explanation for Posey over any of the top 3, in order:
    Torres-Huff-Uribe.

I like Fielder but not for what he would cost. Seriously, I really can’t think of anyone I WANT Sabean to trade for in relation to what it would cost. Maybe Theriot to play SS (he’d cost nothing), stick Uribe at 3rd and send Panda down to AAA. If he can’t hit down there just fucking leave him there with an in-home therapist to get him the help he needs right now…….

I’m ok with Torres 1st, he does SO MUCH. Wilson can’t be understated though. A reliable stud closer is gold. All I care about is blown saves and he’s only got 2, I think. That’s $$$$$.

For most disappointing player (MDP . . . HAHAHA) in the pitcher category, I’m going with Matt Cain. It’s not that I think Cain is bad, it’s just that everyone else seems to think that he’s a potential ace. He’s not. Even if you want to ignore his numbers over the last four starts (21.1 IP, 8.86 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, 20 Ks), there’s not much to love about Cain’s performance this year. His average fastball velocity is down below 92 mph for the first time in his career. His modest 6.53 K/9 marks the first time he’s been under seven in the last four years. Cain has benefited greatly from playing at the Phone Park his entire career. His .259 BABIP and 7.2 H/9 at home differ greatly from his .290 BABIP and 8.2 H/9 on the road. The bottom line is: Matt Cain has not performed as a Numero Dos Starting Pitcher.

    OK. I’ll play:

    Torres
    Huff
    Uribe
    Wilson
    Bummie

    Honorable mention

    Timmy
    Posey

Cain’s problem seems to be one of concentration. He’s got the stuff. He’s just failing to put guys away. He has given up WAY too many 0-2, 1-2 cripple fastballs that guys routinely crush. He’ll be sailing along, 6th inning, none on, 2 outs, 0-3 count when all of a sudden, it’s double, single, dinger.

He’s pretty much given up on run support, so he either loses, or gets the ND.

Dennis, here in Colorado, they say that Rockies’ fans have holes the size of the Eisenhower Tunnel.

    Routinely disappointing player?

    Bengie
    Rowand
    Rent

    Honorable mention

    Zito

Add Chris Ray to the up-and-comers.

BF, you would take Theriot over Rent? Theriot IS from Louisiana. We all know you know that. You got that “white boy fever” going on, don’t you? There’s no other rationale explanation for it. You should be ashamed…

Sando hands down most dissapointing if only ’cause much was expected of him…When you go from 2nd behind Albert to most feared, to just ordinary or below, that’s a HUUUGE downer.

I guess if I wanted to be geographically correct, I would have said the Broadway Tunnel.
But I don’t recall there ever being a President Broadway.

I don’t understand all the talk about acquiring an extra bat, I’d rather have another arm for the pen.

  13. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 14, 2010 at 7:31 pm

It’s “rational”, Barrister Boy, not “rationale”… Theriot, BTW, would only be the choice if they ate Rent’s contract or Uribe were out. They aren’t adding him. Uribe/Renteria is still better than any SS actually available…

  14. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 14, 2010 at 7:35 pm

I just like Theriot, he’s got speed and he gets very streaky. We could use some of that. But I realize there’s no rational move that gets him to us. He also doesn’t walk enough and he’s a hacker. We’ve got enough of those. I’d just rather see him in the line up than Renteria…..

  15. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 14, 2010 at 7:37 pm

If a move is made, I go with another bat over pitching. They’ve got to battle LA and the Rocks, who can slug it out, and I don’t see SD’s pitching caving in. This last roadie showed what solid scoring will do for you. No guarantees Panda rights his ship, and if Huff or Posey or Uribe get hurt, it’s trouble city for production. Definitely another bat…

Typo, Oracle. There was supposed to be an “or” in there. My fake screed against BF shows how idiotic your comments are. So stop the bullshit, stick to your stats. I’ll take Theriot over Rent, but it won’t happen. Rohand for Zambrano — I would do that, to get rid of Rohand. Then Dirrty and half of the Squirrels for Braun, yes. But, that won’t happen, either…

I’m good with the first half MVPs mentioned but I’d like to include Franchez. I think the dude has been pretty solid after getting off the DL. Huff, he had me at the inside the park routine, Juan gone, this guy would be the # 1 if you considered the end of last year through the start of this year, Posey? well he is fucking Jesus, Torres, how do you spell catalyst? BW, it ain’t easy and it ain’t pretty but it is working.
The addition of Ishi, Torres, Bum and Buster in the starting line up for the second half, may just carry this team into the post season (and thats without a trade).

  18. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 14, 2010 at 7:55 pm

Renteria gives you some singles now and again when his creaky-ass body isn’t betraying him. That is it. “Ryan The Riot” gives you speed, a guy running wild on the base paths, great defense, lots of things we don’t have. He’d be a no-brainer add that would cost nothing…..

If any of you are watching the ESPY’s, George Karl just gave a very moving speech. But his idea to have the federal government match funds for cancer research is just too simplistic. It comes from an honest place, I just don’t see how that gets done, practically…….

Good night? The sun hasn’t even set yet. Let me tell ya how my day started. Coming home from the doctor this morning there must have two dozen goats on my nearby hillside eating away at the brush for fire prevention. Don’t need to tell ya who I thought of when I saw all those damn goats. Nothing beats a morning than starting off your day thinking about Chuck and his goats.

    gold post, Denny.
I don’t know about you guys, but this is the first post-all star break I’ve been legitimately excited about in years. I drove my girl to Sun Valley last weekend so she could spend a month with her grand parents. Anyway, I’ve got a lot more time to catch games right now and I couldn’t be any more stoked despite the imperfectness of our team. But I’m with Twin, “goodnight”, got some things to deal with. Tomorrow we get baseball again, how fucking cool is that?

““I wouldn’t trade anything of value for Hart. His first half is way over his head, and hitters who can be beaten that easily would scare me if I was looking to acquire them for a playoff run.”

    True words, them.
