Mets have the new Scott McClain, a guy named Mike Hessman. (329 minor league HRS).

How do GMs like that and the guys that run the Pirates actually think that is a reasonable trade offer. I think the Nats asked for Matt Garza for Dunn…

  3. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:29 pm

Sabean takes a lot of shit but if you look around the league at what every GM does day in and day out it’s hilarious how many mistakes get made…….

Hey, he drafted Buster Posey, Tim Lincecum and Madison Bumgarner. You should have seen Bill Bavasi in action. What an idiot.

  5. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:36 pm

I don’t sweat the draft picks so much but I have a HUGE issue with the contracts. I fucking HATE GM’s that pay a guy for what his baseball card has written on it. The smart GM signs guys for what they are GOING to do, not what they did. That’s why Cashman is such a tool. He’s fucked up countless times over the last few years on side-deals that no one trips on cause they’re too busy admiring his 200 million dollar deals……

  6. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:44 pm

They’re losing about 27 million a year on performance vs. salary on Zits/Rowand/Rent. They’re picking up 22 million on Huff/Uribe/Torres. Rest of the team is slightly over in favor of performance. Those 3 really save Sabes’ bacon…

Colorado might be one inning from becoming sellers.

  8. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:48 pm

Before anyone goes crazy, the POTG pic was something that popped up when I did an “andres Torres” search. No comments from the peanut gallery…..
It’s really amazing what they’ve gotten out of those *3*, Twin, on every metric measurable. Beane hasn’t hit on a guy like that in 10 years (and he’s tried, look at the vet-shit he’s signed)…..
Oh well, Sabes deserves it. He’s brought himself back from the dead, I can dig that. Great story……

  9. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:51 pm

I love the whole “Colorado is the team to beat cause of their monster 2nd half moves”….Huh??? WTF does that mean? Cause they’ve had a couple of nice second half streaks over the last few years? Why would anyone just assume that they would do the same thing some time in the future with different players playing different teams in games that have nothing to do with games played during those *streaky* 2nd halfs? It makes no sense at all……

The Rox meltdown is a little unexpected.

Damn it, Pads took the lead.

  11. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:55 pm

It’s not unexpected at all. Their starting pitching has either been hurt or under performing all year. Their closer position has also been in flux. Tulo’s been hurt, Hawpe, lots of position guys under performing. The Rockies actually DOING SOMETHING this year would blow my mind…..

    I said a little.

it’s shot from an iPhone I think there’s some depth problems there. I’m 15 feet away at most. The house is an older contemporary home, there’s a dining room that’s at least 30 feet behind me from where i shot that…

Calculations: 58-44 with an even 60 to go. Team plays .500 ball the rest of the journey and they finish at 88-74. Don’t think anyone here figures they will drop that many even if there are some hard contests with good teams looming. Say they go 3 games better than 30-30. They finish with a record of 91-71. Such a record should be about where the Wild Card team ends up.

A 36-24 record the rest of the way would get them to 94-68, which should take the division and would almost certainly guarantee the W.C. 36-24 is nice even numbers, divisible by twelve. It means winning three outta every 5 games. Doable, particularly with a reliable 7th inning man. Even more doable if they land Willingham for primarily a prospects package.

dumb post, sorry. the video is shot from one giant room with a family room, a kitchen and a fucking dining room all in the same area. “No walls”. Kinda like one of my slutty ex-girlfriend’s from the early 90’s. Ok, I’ll stop, that was bad. I have other stuff to do right now anyway, I’ll catch you guy’s on the flip side……

Baseball’s biggest trade deadline busts….according to Yahoo:

Then there are the 2005 San Francisco Giants, who made a deadline deal with the Seattle Mariners in which they gave up talented young catcher Yorvit Torrealba(notes) for outfielder Randy Winn(notes), who had three-plus years and $29 million left on his contract. Winn, a corner outfielder, never drove in more than 65 runs for the Giants, who finished 75-87 that year and failed to make the postseason during Winn’s tenure. Sometimes, it’s just better to sit tight.

    A. Winn absolutely tore it up after the trade.
    B. He was resigned.

    Great fucking research by Yahoo.

    (with apologies to Tim Long)
So I read this tweet from a Marlins fan who was on vacation in SF and happened to catch today’s game:
“Went to drown my sorrows at Mo Mo’s right by ATT Park. Stanton and Sanabia were there. Stanton told me to forget about the loss and that I , as a Marlins fan, was the “straw that stirs the drink”. Sanabia beat me up for listening to Stanton and then Stanton beat me up for listening to a no-talent wuss like Sanabia. Then Edwin Rodriguez showed up and beat the shit out of all us. While pummeling me, Rodriguez warmly advised me not to give up on love, or the city or myself. Then we all went to a strip club on Broadway and noticed the owner’s transgender child was there on the pole, looking like a disgusting large breasted Anderson Cooper. Say what you will, that little white-haired girl/guy sure can dance”

Pads are racking the LaBumbos 4-l now, so no gain on the leader, but one up on each of the Dogs and the Rox. More and more its getting to look like a two-team race. Giants staff ERA really took a hit tonight, but the bright side is that it would appear that the team now is sixth in the league in runs scored and still climbing. Hottest hitting team in the league during July. I wonder how some of the doomers at the Spash are reacting to the laugher turning into a squeaker. Must be a lot of emotional baggage getting dumped over there.

I fucking hope so, J. This preseason is shaping up a lot like the 2007 season. The prognosticators are taking notice. They’ve had a good draft. They have a little continuity (well, THAT’S new), but now is the time.

It’s playoffs or bust for them this year.

  32. TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on July 28, 2010 at 9:47 pm

I agree about playoffs or bust this year. They have so damn much talent, they have to put up or shut up. I’ll be at Qwest hopefully watching them thump the Hawks in September. It’d be nice to shut those loud-mouthed Seahawk fans up. Went last year and had to hear it all the way back to the bus…

Craig, to answer your question from earlier today, I’m still hanging at the Splash. It’s a sick obsession that compels me, apparently. I prefer reading the Flap but I enjoy fucking with dumbasses at the Splash and everybody here has a hell of a lot more baseball knowledge than I do so there’s not always a lot I can post.

    • TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on July 29, 2010 at 12:13 am

Woke up to pee (old men do that), thought “WTF” and read this.
You’re so full of shit it’s reeking out of my laptop. No one here has a modicum of more baseball “knowledge” then you.
That’s not what makes The Flap great. It’s love of the Giants and baseball. Yeah, you write something stupid, you’ll get called for it. Take it. It’s not degrading. It’s funny. Just hold your own.
      Cheers.
And if you can’t swickman, then go fuck yourself!!!
See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?
