A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Great Game to Win

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 28, 2010

Is it just me or do Josh Johnson and Matt Cain have like the exact same looking face (not counting the hair)….

That HR by Renteria absolutely lit that dugout up, didn’t it? And he was chugging around the bases at what looked to be maximum speed. It’s obvious by the team’s reaction that they love and respect Edgar Renteria…..

This doesn’t happen very often, but the Marlins have a pitcher going today who’s I’ve never heard of. “Alex Sanabia”– I searched him at *The Cube* and they’ve got nothing on him.  Well, he’s pitched in 6 games this year, likes to walk people and give up hits (1.55 WHIP), 32nd round draft pick according to Yahoo. Have at him…..

    Okay, I’ll start:

    Sanabia’s a fag
Sanabia epiomizes the term “belly itcher”
    Sanabia’s mother wore army boots
    Sanabia rhymes with labia

What a win! I thought we would win the first and lose this one with the way Johnson has been pitching. So a split in the first two was what I had expected.

Now to stay focused and come out tonight east coast time against a Rookie pitcher and how we always seem to struggle against guys the first time we see them for the 30 plus years I have been a die-hard. 3 of 4 is a must and Dodgers will hopefully take one more. I wanted to be a game out after this weekend. We could get to 1.5 if the Dodgers take one more and we can win th elast two. Go Giants!

Great game. I heard on KNBR the Giants were looking at Kansas City’s Scott Podsednik. With the way the Giants are playing should they pick up another bat. could that damage team chemistry? Granted this is only July but still. I feel the Giants have all the players they need. Bochy is doing fine with what he’s got.

I see no harm adding a cheap bat to stock up the offense.

Good win last night. Uribe and Rent came up huge, and Rent really smoked his homer. Johnson is a tough customer, but the Giants kept at him and got it done.

I agree with GH, 3 of 4 is a must, especially with the Dodgers and Padres beating up on each other. This is a great chance to pick up ground on one or the other, and the G’s need to keep this up no matter who they’re playing. Boy, the Rockies are struggling right now! Losing to the Bucs at home? Yikes.

And Ted, calling anyone here Soph is just a low blow, man. Ya cheap shot artist. 😀

Did Kruk make to much of the way that guy flipped the bat after hitting that homer off of Cain. I guess Cain was giving him the stink eye all the way down the 1st base line.

  9. willied's avatar willied said, on July 28, 2010 at 8:27 am

I think GH said couple days ago he expected some heroics from Rowand and Rent. These guys still have a lot of pride and want to contribute as much as possible to success of the team. Good to see.

Sure hope Uribe has some of the pop back. Looked last couple weeks like when he conncected well it was just short of going out or he just didn’t get under it enough.
Sanchez with two hits back in the 2 slot. All good from the mid-IF rotation.

Watching some other teams I think gives perspective on what we see all the time. Sf handled the Mets easily, romped AZ, whipped LA in their own yard…STL lost with Wainwright last night, Braves were shutout by 39 year old journeyman subbing for Stras last night, Rox lose to the Pirates at home after a 2-9 roadtrip. SF has issues, but so does everyone else…the Padres are the only team in the entire NL with more Ws than Giants, by one. Doom up that one.

What if we add both Podsednik and Guillen? I say Bowker and Nate for both or Nate and Hinshaw. Nate is just clsose to zero power right now…

Guillen will cost just $2 mill or so this year and Podsednik $2 mill next year and less this year. An OF of Huff-Torres-Guillen with Podsednik getting starts in left and right 4-5 games a week. Against lefties, Panda or Huff at first, Burrell in left, Guillen in right.

Podsednik and DeRosa can split starts next year in left. Huff in right and first.

    • wswinb4igo's avatar wswinb4igo said, on July 28, 2010 at 9:02 am

Marlins just seem kind of faceless. Hanley is an arrogant ass, their D is terrible, and outside of the power guys the rest are puffball hitters. Coghlan is obviously sent a message by the Great Karmatic Equalizer with the DL stint. Ross, who isn’t even an everyday player, and his bat flip are BS. Their home park is a dungeon.

But about defense…I’m reading Bobby Knight’s book and near the end he talks about “minimizing the ways you can lose. That has always been a major tenet in my coaching philosophy: to win you have to eliminate the reasons why you lose”…By cutting down on mistakes in the field and making super efforts, SF defense does so much to help the PS. Torres and Sanchez have had highlight reel plays lately, but just making the routine ones over and over to get people out when you should is invaluable.

As I said yesterday, I suspect Posednik is the guy we get. I like it. He’d be cheap (like Guillen) and he’d fill a need better than Guillen would (speed and he gets on base). Bat him first and Torres 2nd. We’ve got the guys behind those two to driver them in…..

  22. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 9:45 am

The only thing I’m slightly worried about with Posednik is that he had a pretty horrendous year the last time he was in the NL. But that could have just been an off year. He’s definitely a guy that has hot and cold years….
Posey has basically wrapped up Rookie of the Year honors. I felt that way even before Strasburg came down with shoulder inflamation. They were always planning on shutting him down anyway sometime in early/mid Sept. Posey will go strong all the way through the season….

MLBTR reports that the Giants are in a hot hustle for Cantu. Cant Do? Say it ain’t so, Joe. WTF does this team need with another corner infielder, even if the guy smacks a tater from time to time. Defensive liability. Can’t throw worth shit. My thought is that maybe he’s something by way of a smokescreen, to get the Nats to come down on their asking price for Willingham.

No Willingham and a slab of Podsednik bacon would be okay by me. Yes, batting him leadoff, with Torres in the two-hole would make sense. So would the reverse. One thing for sure, should SF sport that pair at the top of the lineup, the team’s OBP would soar and the outfield defense would improve even more. Speed on the basepaths would unnerve opposing batteries and might result in more fat pitches for Huff, Posey, Pablo and company. Sanchez batting 8th would insert a stinger in the tail. All good.

Though Romo has been getting it done lately and Wilson leads the Majors in saves, there still is need for one more steady arm for the late innings. Giants have plenty of middle reliever types who have ups and downs typical of the genre, but not a deep need for middle relief, contrary to other teams lacking a full house Rotation. Ideally, the pickup would be a lefty, but so long as he’s steady and effective in the 7th or 8th inning, a righthander would do as well.

Get it done already, Sabes. This team is probably 90% real deal complete. A bit of tweaking, considering clubhouse chemistry in the process and the Halloween Machine is all set to go.

“Did Kruk make to much of the way that guy flipped the bat after hitting that homer off of Cain”

Way too much.. It’s the one downside of having a former player as a broadcaster. Let’s call it “F.P. Syndrome.” Although Krukow is a zillion times better broadcaster than F.P. Maybe F.P. will get better in time. And although I think Krukow is really good, the biggest symptom of F.P. Syndrome that Krukow has that annoys me is his obsession with the other team stealing signs, when there’s very little evidence that today’s ballplayers are interested in the over-rated legacy of sign-stealing. In Krukow’s mind, sign-stealing is an exciting cat and mouse game. I’m sure it was 30 years ago.

Read that the team is scouting Mariners’ RHRP Brandon League. He has pitched in more than 50 games so far with the M’s, averaging about 1.3 innings per appearance. ERA in the 3.50s, a bit partial to giving up the long ball, but easy on BBs and thus has a decent WHIP and a fairly low BAA. He appears to be a durable type and not too excitable, probably well-suited for taking over in the sixth or seventh and good for up to two innings. If the price is right, not cutting into the meat, why not?

From CBS Sportsline Power Rankings, we move dup from 9th to 6th:

“There’s no accurate historical analogue for the transformative effect Buster Posey has had on the Giants lineup. In terms of seismic impact, the two closest comparisons are the invention of indoor plumbing and Krakatoa … They’re scoring runs, lots of them. A guy like Jose Bautista or Corey Hart would help them score more. The more runs you score, the more games you win. See where we’re going with this? … Bruce Bochy may be an inadvertent self-saboteur, but that was some nifty anal-retentive managing last week against the Dodgers. Yes, screaming “Rule book! Rule book!” when Don Mattingly stepped off the mound and then back on — which confused the umps into thinking that Dodger pitcher Jonathon Broxton had to be removed from the game — likely rubbed L.A. fans the wrong way. But it’s conceivable that the four non-Arizona teams in the NL West will only be separated by a few games at the end of the season, so you take the wins however you can get ’em. Nicely done, halfwit. And congrats on your belated recognition of Travis Ishikawa’s numbers against righty pitchers.”

Did he just call Bochy a halfwit?????

Yes- that reference was lost on me, too. I’m not up on all the internet lingo. Although- STFU has to be one of the funniest ever.

No, I am not “free with the threats”, I respond to posts “in kind”. Several times I have thanked OSF for his call at the hospital, and he has seen some of the remarks about my “fake cancer”, yet has chosen to remain silent. Fact is, he seems afraid of pissing off his fellow doomers more than he feels an obligation to truth. Even a so called wish for my good health ALWAYS contains an ad hominem atttack with it. And that’s fine- I definitely dish it out far better than the lame shit directed at me. Just don’t pretend to be a “friend”,assfuck.

Btw- it’s not clear to me why BF titled his post yesterday “Pffffttt.” I assume he meant the air went out of the balloon a bit, by Monday night’s loss. But I didn’t see it that way. It was important, I think, that they kept battling, and almost tied it at the end. Not all losses are created equal. That loss showed the mental toughness of this team, and helped salvage some momentum at the end of the game, heading into Tuesday’s game.

Not sure what was funnier.Wilson’s Orange Shoes or Cain’s Waffle House cap.

  60. oldsealsfan's avatar oldsealsfan said, on July 28, 2010 at 1:02 pm

    What a crock of shit!!
    1. BTW, I never saw a “fake cancer” post. Sorry, but I’m not on these blogs 24/7 and I miss a number of comments.

    2. I’m not afraid of pissing off anyone! That includes you and BF, as well. That I would curry favors from doomers is a stoopid comment.

    3. Regarding “ad hominem attacks” combined with wishes for good health, I believe when I called you at the hospital I told you something like, “Get well, because I’m not thru calling you out.” Sorry if it wasn’t sacarine sweet enough for you. That’s the way I am.

    4. I have never pretended to be a “friend” of yours. I only know you through these blogs and am struck by how viciously you can react to an innocuous comment, be it correct or incorrect, here and on the Splash. Case in point was when I posted that comment that there was a better way to predict the contest winner than a straight line average to the end of the month. Not all agreed with me but I recall at least one person did agree with my point. You, instead, went ballistic and led to BF removing my guess in the contest. BTW, very poor show, BF. My “friends” are people I have met and whose company I have enjoyed over a period of time. I have no friends here or the Splash, however, there are many here that I enjoyed interacting with, even you (and BF). I’ve said so on the Spalsh.

    5. While I’m not your “friend”, I wish you well with your health. That also includes your mental outlook. Just looking at today’s comments here I am struck again how over-the-top some of your comments are. Lighten up! I can understand how a health issue can color one’s outlook on life, but who knows, maybe you will live to 100. It would be a shame spending all that time being pissed off at everybody.

I’m not sure if you were joking about the “Doug” thing but your 11:59am post is totally false. I know who it is, it’s not the people you suggested it was….

  62. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 28, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Clubber, just do me a favor, and I’ve asked you this before: do not fucking respond OR refer to me again. Anywhere. Got that?

  63. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 28, 2010 at 1:19 pm

And there is nothing “over the top” at all. Flavor has allowed total scum in here. And Flavor, your boy “Doug” has even referred to Ted’s post about tonight’s pitcher. Yes, it is the scum I referred to.

I just returned from having a finger literally shoved up my rectum at the doctor’s office. So if I have a problem with today’s lineup I have a goddamn right bitch. I’ll commence said bitching right after I find a comfy pillow for my chair.

    Yeah, well you insulted me.
    Fuck you!
    Lick my ass!

Geeze, when did everyone become so thinned skin? This place is becoming a regular knitting club these day.

Can’t we all just get along? Or at least not be so easily offended.

Let’s talk baseball. Where’s Whitey in that LU?

Come on Sanchez, shut ’em down.

    Go Giants!

Actually I also know who “doug” posts here as, and I wish I could say it was shocking. But you’re not very web smart if you don’t realize that there really are people who will post as a “friend” in one guise and attack under a different name.

  71. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Again, I know who it is. I’ve matched his IP address and his email address. It’s not who you think it is. And I would be surprised if this person, who has posted her regularly since the beginning of the blog, is also now posting as a different user who’s sole purpose is to insult people/disrupt the blog. Maybe you think this person would do that or has done that, but I would be shocked….

  72. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I have his name, his email address and the IP address that was used that matches up exactly to both “doug” and the poster I know who it to be. I have received many emails from this person over the last few months. Again, you might think this guy has a alternate persona or whatever, and i guess I could be wrong about him, but i don’t think so. I am 100% certain who this person is, so don’t tell me I don’t know who it is…….
