Timmy Needs to STEP UP
Losing to the Dempster’s and Jurrjen’s of the league isn’t anything to be ashamed of. Unless you’re the 2 time CY Young Champ. Why would a 2-time defending CY champ need a *new delivery* mid season anyway? I don’t doubt Tim’s effort one bit, but this is not where we want to be in August with our ACE….
Kinda bummed that Renteria is ouchy again–this means we will see a lot more Franchez who will be released this Winter if Burriss proves he’s healthy and productive……
With Willy Aybar DHing for the Rays I can’t help but wonder how Tampa Bay, desperately in need of a *bat*, feels about sending checks to THE BAT every month…….
We remember when Zito toyed around with a new delivery and see how that worked out. For whatever reason, Panda and Timmy seem to playing without ‘a fire in their belly’ this year.
Not sure Burriss is a short or long term answer, and is tied to the Frandsen/Lewis/Bowker era. Seems there has been a movement away from that whole group of players for good, bad, or indifferent so wouldn’t be surprised if Franchez is here next year and Burris is not on the roster altogether.
Nothing better than playing with the house money, thank you TB.
I’m as irked as anyone about Timmy’s performance of late, but as usual, Gringo, your point is that you have no point at all. Try for 5 minutes not to be a schmuck.
“playing without ‘a fire in their belly’”
What a load of crap. Yeah, they have struggled. But it has nothing to do with their lack of determination and desire. Total bullshit to even bring that up.
Don’t hit him so hard, max. That’s exactly what he likes.
Well over on the Gate, Tim says he is fine, but he also says he does not need anyone helping him anymore. He is 26 years old and does not need a babysitter to figure out what is wrong. Sounds like an ego problem there, sometimes asking for help is not a bad thing!!
Pablo and Lincecum have plenty of “fire,” if anything they’re trying too hard. Couple of times Lincecum’s frustration has caused a type of tunnel-vision. He just focuses on trying to get his stuff going, his rhythm set, and he lets base runners run wild. Last night we saw that, although it wasn’t quite as bad as that infamous game a month or so back. But his determination and competitiveness have not dimmed a bit. Same with Pablo. Last night he clearly put some extra effort into his defense; he was not going to make the sort of misplays he’d committed Monday night. He’s not swinging with authority at the plate much these days, but that’s not because he’s giving up. Both guys have hit rough patches at the same time. Each of them has tremendous “fire in the belly,” and that’s exactly why they’ll each figure it out.
Agree! and if tim has changed anything willingly it had to be with advice; he has so many great places to get dat from.
As for fire: all you needed to see was the game (2 before the AS break) when he realised he didn’t have his best stuff (second inning)
He screwed up his face and battled. And that time he won without his best stuff.
That’s our Freak. now and forever.
Yeah, Timmy’s era is something around 5.50 through his last 5 starts. Granted, we expect better of him than 4.2 and 5 runs vs LA, or 4.0 and 6 yesterday, but even the Atl game was not very good. Long balls and walks, and not able to get out of trouble. Yeah, we expect a lot from him, and 11-6 3.41 is nothing to sneeze at, but he’s pretty fricking wobbly these days. He was 10-4 2.94 a month ago . . .
He’ll likely shitcan the new delivery. Time to talk to dad . . .
Carl Stewart, filling in for Baggs, said the same thing about calling dad in. It’s not like he’s too far away. I think he does a weekly radio show with Patrick Connor on KNBR. I saw him hanging out at Public house during the Mets series and he went on a date with a friend of mine a few days later. If Bonds had his whole entourage on the payroll, why can’t we get Timmy’s dad on it?
“No fire in their belly?”
There is absolutely no fucking way anyone not on the team knows jack shit about that. Timmy’s never been a very demonstrative guy when things are going well, so judging his ‘fire’ by how he comports himself on the mound is asinine to speculate about. He is his own worst critic, and I’m sure is frustrated over these last few shakey starts.
BF, not so sure Franchez will be gone next year. Sabean is not one to admit mistakes, and, if history holds true, releasing him after one season of a two year contract is unlikeley. There will be the excuses that he’s a career .300 hitter, a gold glove calliber second baseman, he was coming off an injury, he’s a professional vet, and of course, he’s a gamer. I see him being on the roster. Hopefully though, Brandon Crawford learns a big league stroke and can play short in 2011 and Burris proves this year that he can supplant Franchez as the starting 2nd baseman.
Being a career .300 hitter is not an excuse, it’s a fact. I’m not saying keep him or not, but a guy like that is going to get the benefit of the doubt.
Personally, I think the guy is hurt again. He was on fire coming off the DL. Then he suddenly dropped way off. But not being around the team, who really knows why Franchez is rewriting the book on sucktitude right now. I really hope he can get his stroke back because I love his defense.
More important, being a .300 hitter is not even the truth.
Continued ambivalence re Burriss highlights why Giants fans STINK. Yes, I said it. Giants fans STINK. He’s “tied to the Frandsen/Lewis/Bowker era”? STINK.
Burriss is 25, selected 33rd overall, as cheap as we have at $400K. Proved in 2008 and 2009 he can field and steal bases, hopefully he can punch-n-judy his way to a decent OBP (like 2008). But no, after injury rehab, he’s at a career crossroads and make-or-break year? So fucking fickle and stupid I don’t know where to start.
Even if Burriss never becomes more than Ramon Martinez, wouldn’t you play out the string and, at worst, pay him $400K and overpay some bopper for the chronic OF weakness on this roster? Wouldn’t you gladly have Burriss do what Freddy or Rent have done … for $MM less? Giants’ farm system is totally bankrupt of OFs, despite the propaganda about Sabean and empty suit Bobby Evans really dedicating a whole new focus there. Who are OFs of tomorrow? Darren Ford? Good luck. The fact that Torres was kept around long enough to surprise all when Rowand went down – playing behind Fred, Nate, Velez, and Bowker – screams how horrible things are on the farm.
But, no, Giants fans quickly lump Burriss into the lazy bucket of Frandsen, et al. Those guys did nothing well. Lewis, Bowker, Velez, and Frandsen can’t even catch the fucking ball. But it’s much less work to just say “ah, fuck him,” and rationalize defenses for Sabean’s annual slew of plugs and retirement contracts. Burriss sucks, so let’s re-sign Richie and Omar. “Look, it’s Richie bobblehead day.” Giants’ fans are so happy to see a familiar “name” in the program on April 1 that they have no fucking concern about breaking this 50+ year curse.
Get off Burriss. He’s not our problem, he can’t possibly be a problem. We have no OFs here or in the pipeline. Figure how to get a good OF for more than a one year rental, then worry about Burriss.
Other than Gringo, who’s worried about Burris?
Gringo today. It’s been an ongoing topic dating back to justifications for Rent.
There’s way to justify Rent-a-wreck. Hurt again.
I can still remember where I was, listening to the first ST game on the radio, when Burriss re-injured his foot. Big disappointment. I love to watch that guy play and hoped he would be more than a sub this year. Of course, I realize he may not learn to hit well at the mlb level. But he may. No downside at all giving him a shot.
Considering the current alternatives
There are alternatives on other ML rosters. Sabean should try to win it for once, instead of just trying to stay in it.
Jaymee Sire CSN…Renteria to have MRI on his bicep. That’s good at least Edgar won’t take the field the last couple of months.Expect a DL announcement today or tomorrow. But then again, they will probably just keep throwing his sorry ass out there like they did last year.
just a comment on the POTG comment about the Ray’s GM:
It should have been “we are dead lucky the team is so strong otherwise they’d have never given up a hitter like Pat the Bat”
And then do we give props to BS for seeing that and landing the ‘no skin off our noses’ player? It seems to me like this is one in the win column for an old warrior (BS) of the GM games.
I’ve already outlined why Fruckie Sanchez is gone after this year. Hell, Burriss had more good swings last night than Fruck has had in two weeks. Anyway, it’s not just BA with Sanchez, as I said, he now has zero pop, zero. Nada. Even that is tolerable but he cannot run, either. So unless this is injury related and can be “cured” or he makes a total turn around, he’s gone. And don’t tell me about past history, they don’t HAVE recent past history of being a playoff contender before last year. If he can’t perform, he’s outta here…
Kat: an MRI is a *TEST*, he will not be out for a month or two due to a test.
still the douch mooch. when are your tests going to tell you to cop an exit?
Wherever you put the Giants they are in 2nd place and in contention for the WC, I still think they can win the division.
Hey Chuck, I need the link to Ninerland. thanks
Kev, just click on Chuck’s name on you’ll be directed right to his blog.
WARNING: My usual drivel is 5x over there.
Jed is again FOS, Rent never impacted Burriss. They like Burriss better at second base than SS and he in fact won the job there. It is Jed’s unhealthy obsession with Edgar that is suspect.
.
I’m thinking with Renteria out, it obviously forces the runt back in. Keep him batting 8th; Panda to the 2-hole.
Should see Rowand tonight as well vs the lefty with the Huffster back at 1B. And Zitshit is going at least 7 tonight whether he likes it or not. Pen needs a breather.
Dennis, of COURSE they can win the division. Jesus Horatio Fuckwad Christ. How many times have I had to tell you nimrods to settle down? That it’s OK? A hundred? Two hundred? Don’t pay attention to you know who and Jediot and Snarkkles. They are evil agents of the Splash. They are here to divide us and then take our IPhones to Dorkistan while we’re bitching at each other.
F-in’ classic, Twin. Classic.
I never bitch here, but the iphones to dorkistan is a legitimate charity, right?
and the Rays, giving the Yanks fits.
Rays: $71,923,471
Yank: $206,333,389
that’s $133m for half a game lead.
ee Haw
screw the Yankees
Just getting a SS was never going to address the problem anyway. Here’s the scoop, poops: Panda is the 3red baseman. Uribe will play short or second regardless. So unless they got a SS and canned Fruckie’s ass, they were not improving themselves. Just leave the thinking to me and my boys from now on. None of this is apologia for Renteria, the deal didn’t work out. What needs to be done now is REALISTICALLY look at what’s best for the team. If he has to be DLed, what is best is Uribe/Burriss at SS and second, and Velez activated if he’s ready.
Heading over to Del Mar Racetrack. What horse is my moneymaker?? Let me know ASAP
7th Real Good Deal Stks. #4 Goggles McCoy (7/5 ML) is the lone speed and should run this group into the ground. Beat him to cash. Even with my arch nemesis jockey, Russell Baze aboard, he’s the one to catch and beat at 7F.
#4 Goggles McCoy
So far Flagship, Donato, Timezone and Soft Shoe Shuffle have done me no justice. I had to hit the ATM, but Stroppy, Ultra Awesome are about to pull it off. Will put more on googles, if the bank will let me.
Cal, Moneymaker (Chris) is in the WSOP, not the racetrack . . .
They’ve tried activating Velez several times. He showed some life for a while late last year, but the charge never really seems to stick. What about DJL’s long shot, Keppinger?
Everybody loves to throw out names. Go research if he’s available and what they’d want and remember we’re now talking waiver wire. It’s totally astounding how EZ you people think trades are to consummate.
It’s probably the unfortunate fall out from Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy NFL drafts, etc. Hell, I made some great trades when me and my trading partner would get coked up and swap running backs.
Hey, I trust DJL to have done his homework. I don’t trust activating Velez again, unless they really increase the voltage this time.
Loo does good until he gets to the “who do we give up” part. Then it’s something like MadBum and Neal for “Keppy”..
Keppinger is a guy who would play every day and I’m fine with that. BUT they have to bail on both Rent and Sanchez as starters or, as I said, it would not be an upgrade on what they can put out there now. I.E: Uribe/Keppinger is an upgrade.. Sanchez/Keppinger is NOT. The mistake Room B is making is thinking that the replacement is of Renteria. Uribe takes THAT spot. It is Fruckface they should/would be replacing.
“I hate the Cardinals. All they do is bitch and moan about everything, all of them. They’re little bitches all of ’em…Brandon Phillips Cincinnati Reds,2B Aug 9 2010:
Brandon Phillips, your my hero.I love the way you put it out there dude. And how you wasted no time getting in Yadier Molina’s face in the bottom of the first inning last night(By the way,be careful Brandon,Big Brother Bengie may post an article on his blog, telling everyone how disrespectful you are to the Molina Monarchy.)
Phillips is right on about one thing. The Cardinals are a bunch of whiny little bitches. And that’s because of their skipper Tony LaRussa who’s one of the biggest complainers in all of sports.I’ll be the first to admit I can’t stand LaRussa.Ever since the 1989 W/S to be honest.I hate how he flat out lied about Mark McGwire and Jose Cansesco’s ass-injecting antics in the A’s clubhouse(at least Jack Clark had the balls to call him out on it) I hate how he tried to get in Dusty’s grill back when Baker managed the Giants(and again with the Cubs) And I hate how he refused to “Man UP” to his DUI.He reminds me of Phil Jackson quite honestly.LaRussa and Jackson are probably members of the same PETA-loving-Vegan-Zen-Mumbo-Jumbo Cult.
Dear Mr. LaRussa,
Thank you for your nice letter, but I am actually a US Marine who was born to kill, whereas clearly you seam to have mistaken me for some sort of wine sipping, communist dick suck. And although peace probably appeals to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, I happen to be a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior who wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations. Peace sucks a hairy asshole, Tony. War is the mother-fucking answer.
Regards,
alleykat
My thoughts exactly on La Russa, what a dweeb!!
My thoughts more or less on Alley Kat. Mumbo Jumbo is a really underrated novel. Well worth reading.
Didn’t work out too well for Brandi and his bitches, now did it?
Timmy’s last 16 starts:
IP 99 1/3
H 106
BB 44
K 94
R 50
ER 49
ERA 4.44
WHIP 1.51
HR 10
I’m pretty sure this is worse then league average. The K’s are good, the rest is not or am I overestimating the league this year?
The 1.51 WHIP would be “pedestrian” if we were talking about just another pitcher. But dammit, this is Lincecum! Also, I think it makes no sense simply to ignore his first 8 starts of the season.
It makes him a decent 4 or good 5. Let’s see if we can still get Rios 😉

still the douch mooch. when are your tests going to tell you to cop an exit?
wow, too much, has all children forgotten how to live?
All your base are belong to us?
the telling word is ‘cop’
apparently hair thinks somewhere everything can be a free ride, no responsibility is his dream.
Yeah, that’s the Hocker.
STROPPPPPPYYYYYY!
Nice ride by Pedroza. I think Brad Free liked Stroppy as well. 4th is a puzzler. Fav. looks a little vulnerable. Abrams is good w/ the youngsters. #8 Party Ruler at a price. Looks great on the track.
I see Jed went with the classic doomer ‘bait and switch.’ It used to be “the Giants’ farm system sucks!” And now that the SF Giants have a couple of talented rookies, it’s “the Giants’ farm system sucks because….it doesn’t produce outfielders!”
Giants farm system “sucks” for position players, has been over-rated in the depth of arms. WTF is Zito the highest paid player on the team? WTF are trades needed for journeyman relievers? Posey was a top-five pick, college MVP. Duh. Bum shows the promise of the 10th overall pick. Man, no one could do this job.
Who ‘ya got to play 1B, 2B, SS, RF, LF, CF? Anyone? (Crickets chirping.) Burriss merits playing time as much as Rent or Sanchez … but for $MM paid by your hero GM. There’s no ‘bait-n-switch.’ Stay away from checkers, stick to tic-tac-toe.
Play Burriss period. They need some speed. Hope he can hit.
From Baggs: Giants lineup sheet listed without extras. A sure sign team is on the fence about making roster move with Renteria.
I hope we have at least *some* extras. Whitey should be good to go. No worries, mate.
I wouldn’t have batted the little runt 2nd, but I’m not the manager.
Torres RF, F.Sanchez 2B, Huff 1B, Posey C, Burrell LF, Uribe SS, Sandoval 3B, Rowand CF, Zito P
Because he knows Gorzelanny? Maybe just a hunch? I don’t know

I think I am going to puke!!
Oh I get it- Sandoval is overweight.
Whenever Curtis Granderson hits a HR, Yanks radio announcer John Sterling starts singing, “The Grandyman can, Oh the Grandyman can.” I swear I’m not making this up.
Who can take a playoff-contending season
And crap on it still?
The alleykat can.
Velez was activated off the DL and optioned to Fresno. There may be another move coming soon.
Guesses anyone?
Velez activated from DL sent to AAA.
Renteria on DL for third time this year. MRI shows biceps strain, he said.
We’re still short.
Yeah the usual suspect Rohlinger,But that can’t happen till tomorrow.
Hey Dennis how about another pitcher for the call up? Grin….
Giants about to announce trade, dealing minor-leaguer for big-leaguer.
You guys might get your wish for that SS you’ve been bitchin’ and moanin’ ’bout. Keppinger for Loo, perhaps?
How’s this excite ya?
Fontenot acquired for Low-A infielder Evan Crawford.
Fontenot’s a lot like Kippinger.
I guess all he has to do tonight is switch dugouts.
Guillen?
Oh, Fontenot? Oooh, be still my heart . . .
HJow’s this for weird? I wanted him to be our Dirrrrty babysitter . . .
http://tinyurl.com/2863k4f
He doesn’t need a ladder to get the good pics.
Well, he did get what turned out to be the game winning 2rbi double last night against us…
Addition by subtraction if nothing else. His playing time has significantly decreased month by month. Only 6 ABs thus far in August. He should be fresh at least.
How do you trade for someone on a team you’re in the middle of a series with?
No problem trading across the field during a series. I think Billy Beane has done that more than once (the A’s probably like saving the transportation costs). Ballplayers have no ethical rules that create conflicts of interest. Unless you’re StL and Cinn, right now.
Just seems weird, that’s all. But yeah Molina for Phillips would be an ill thought out move right now
Like the trade. Don’t know what Sabes had on the Cubs but an A-ball speedster with modest hitting stats for a ready to go MLB infielder who plays both second and third is ok by me. His stats indicate a decent BA, .280 range if recall is correct, an OBP just a titch over .333 and an SP in the low .400s. No speed. No big pop. Contact hitter evidently. He can bat 2nd, 7th or 8th. Looks like an adequate defender. Orioles actually made him a first round pick just after the turn of the century. Went to the Cubbies in the Sosa deal.
Good backup at the least. Will get some playing time. Looks like the RentMan era has just about run its course. This is not the big move for another outfielder some had been hoping for, but props to Sabean for the quick move when backed up to the wall. Maybe he can snangle a better backup catcher next.
BTW: Things like this do not get noticed much in a loss, but Santiago Casilla turned in a very keen three innings of relief work last night. He kept the Giants in the game. More and more its looking like this guy’s a keeper and may not be the one to go down on Affeldt’s return. Who that may be is a whole nother question. Runzler probably has options left, so if he is activated before the end of the month, he’ll go to Fresno. But recent sterling work by most of the BP confuses matters considerably. Romo appears to be the only one there with remaining options. If he goes down, he might not be available for the PS.
Fontenot has impressive numbers this yr. w/RISP (38 ABs): .368 .422 .605 1.027
Comes in handy for PHing late with some ducks already on the pond. Not a sexy move, but solid all-around. No complaints here.
He’s mostly played second base, so that’s good. Cost a guy who has not been projected as a MLB player. The biggest plus: he is BETTER than Fruckie Sanchez offensively and a plus defender at 2B. Unless you had unrealistic Room B expectations for Hanley R, this is a great deal.
Last nite, 24 runs combined for dodgers and phillies…tonight 2 total. 15 for the blue last nite. tonight 0
Play the little runt vs lefties and Font against the right-handers. The little shit actually IS hitting lefties this yr. And Font is strictly vs RP. Only 7 ABs this yr. vs lefties. Looks like a good platoon.
Dennis posts reminds me…check out Sandoval’s splits home v away.
Home: .330.385 .490 .875
Away: .215 .275 .289 .564
Pablo must have contracted the Wellemeyer H9A0 virus.
Buster was fortunate there. Hit it too softly and avoided the DP. Cleanup hitter needs to do more in that situation…
Like it Burrell
Like Pat the Bat!
Thank you Tampa!
Pat the Bat continues to stay hot!
The Bat had his “Dog Days” in July, but his August is barking out real loud. : .357 .459 .643 1.102
He deserves a treat.
outstanding…out at the plate
Awesome play!
Yeah Posey says take that Shit meat, your not scoring on my watch!
Pat’s a lousy defender but he has a nice arm when he does get to a ball.
