Uh oh…..Zito…..
Well, that didn’t work. Bochy and the Giants had everything aligned last night but the stars. And now we turn to….HIM. You guys already know about fake hustle. Ever heard of fake confidence? That’s what I’m rollin’ with today. I found one stat that can fuel my fake confidence, at least for a day: Zito in October for his career: 4 starts, 2-0, 2.70 ERA, .212 batting average against…….
I’m really more worried about the hitting than Zit(uh)0 They were tighter than a drum last night. Franchez looked like he was on 10 tabs of adderall when he stepped to the plate. These guys have GOT to chill out and manage their adrenaline better. Baseball is a game played with squashed emotion, not unbridled emotion. I think he’s a chump but Stauffer has been very good lately. We could be headed for another 1-0, 2-1 deal and all that’s going to do is continue to build up tension, edginess and anxiety— not too easy to hit when that’s happening either…….
Going into last night this was just way too easy, wasn’t it? You don’t base your entire season on torture and then just saunter into the post season with a few games to spare– this could get much uglier before it gets better. The next few days could feel like a lifetime……..
so if Atl loses tomorrow this is all over, right? Whoever wins the SF/SD game is the division winner and the loser is the WC. There’s no way they make us play a 1-game playoff, right? Why would we burn Lincecum, just concede the fucking division at that point. I’m assuming that if Atl loses tomorrow and SD wins, there will be no 1-gm playoff game. Both SF and SD would be in……..
if ATL loses tomorrow, we are WC winner if we lose; if ATL loses tomorrow and we win, we are NL West winner and SD is WC winner.
I think.
if atl loses, and G’s win…atl and sd play monday for the wc
I’d’ve liked Renteria up at the end; has a good history. BUT WHO CARES NOW?
I think you’re wrongo. No one is conceding squat.
Yes Flav. It happened with Yanks and Bosox very recently…(2007 maybe)…
2005 actually…
if atl loses, and G’s win…atl and sd play monday for the wc
didn’t they say Tejada’s bunt hit in the first was his first in 6,000 ABs or something crazy? I was not watching then, running all around the WWW to find a stream
if so, that’s a gutsy strategy and I tip my SF hat to Black
that’s out of the playbook of the feckin ’02 Halos
The only way there’s NO game Monday is if SF & ATL win. Got it?
The called third strike on Posey painfully woefully reminded me of the last pitch of the 2000 season: Barry Lamar Bonds, called third strike, bases loaded, against the Mets.
I suck and my boy zito really sucks.
But if the Braves do indeed lose, we still want to win so we’ll host them in the NLDS.
They lose and we lose then it’s off to Philly. No thanks.
Wait, I don’t think that’s right either. Fuck it. Go Stanford!
Host the Reds I think I meant to say.
The way it was going and would subsequently go, Tejada probably cost Atlanta minimum 4 runs with the bunt. The small brained fall in love with small ball without thinking. Took the bat out of his hands and AG’s hands. Two runs in that inning was a fucking gift.
The one consolation with opening on the 6th in Philly is they could go to a 3 man rotation. No zits.
Phil Cuzzi still looms in that back on my mind. His fucked up call at Home plate on Travis would make all this meaningless.
Not really that disappointed by todays game, other than the offense – my biggest worry was that zito would somehow make the playoff rotation and that would have pissed me off to no end. cains start is much more worrisome as if that is the playoff matt cain, the giants are in deep shit. if the giants can’t win tommorrow against a totally spent bullpen and a major struggling starter, well then maybe this wasn’t meant to be. anyway of the giants, braves, and pads the jints are the only ones guaranteed to be playing again past tomorrow and for now, that’s got to do
Not a bad post,Slo.
Bochy gets props for a delicate balancing act- on the one hand he gave the Zitster every chance to gut it out,on the other he got him out before it was a lost cause. Pick on Guillen, he’s the EZ target, boys- but it’s the guys who’ve carried them who have buckled under the load: Torres, Posey, Huff..
Starts and ends with the SP…hindsight, Ya, Zits should have went fri…
You have to think the feelings of seperation between the Giants and Zito are mutual. Bochy has shown numorous times they don’t trust him, Zito knows it, how he could he possibly stay….
So let me see if i have this right…If the Pads take 2 out of 3 from the Giants and the Braves are swept by the Phils. The Giants would win the NL West and the Pads and Braves would play a one game playoff game at Turner Field on Monday.
If the Pads sweep the Giants and the Braves are swept by the Phils.
The Pads would be awarded the NL West since they hold the head to head advantage against the Giants. The Giants, meanwhile would win the NL W/C
If the Pads sweep the Giants and the Braves lose two out of 3 to the Phils,
This is where it really gets crazy. All three teams would finish with identical records 91-71,forcing two tie breakers right? The Giants would play the Pads in a one game showdown at Pet Food Park to determine the NL Winner. The loser of the game would then play, the Braves on Tuesday at ATT to decide the W/C winner.Right?
Right
right
Hindsight for some. I posted when the change was announced that I didn’t like it.
and you were right…
So did snarkk and I as well as others. No one liked this
I think we all know the Braves are a lock tomorrow, and I have no idea who’s pitching for them. If they brought back Tony Cloninger, he’d win for them tomorrow…
That’s right. As an example, if yanks and Tampa tie, there will be no playoff, Tampa wins division based off season record. Same would apply to sd and giants if they tie and atl loses tomorrow
O/U on how much Looigi has lost on his locks: $200,000.
over my lifetime, I’d settle for that!
Atl is likely going to win, hammels is only pitching 2, all the regs are sitting. But u never kniw
Why does EVERYBODY call this guy Hammells? It’s Hamels.
I ‘d like to see Monday baseball…sd v atl
i’m not so sure the change in starters would have made that big a diff – if cain pitched crappy last night because of pressure he would have pitched crappy tonite after a zito loss. zito pitched crappy not because his turn was skipped, his stuff just isn’t that good and when times get tough for him he throws balls and walks people. i think he would have lost last nite as well. i have faith that tomorrow should be different as the pads are on pitching fumes.
This is more complicated than calculas
Is that the Greek spelling?
No. The illiterate’s
Although I do have an Uncle Calculas
Philadelphia started Worley today. Brian Bocock played. None of us have the faintest fucking idea who wins tomorrow.
Slo, you should have quit while you were ahead, BTW.
NO WHINING
NO BLAME
NO PANIC
NO BITCHING
NO BOCHY BASHING
JUST WIN THE FUCKING GAME TOMORROW!
NO SHOES
NO SHIRT
NO SERVICE
JUST WIN THE FUCKING GAME TOMORROW!
yeah maybe – i just matt would have pitched like matt and we would be watching velez, buriss, nate and rowand tomorrow in a meaningless game.
i do feel good about tomorrow tho
they went with the best they had in the least pressure game. it was a calculated move that didn’t work. They now have their 3rd best going in a not win or go home game….the 3rd best has handled the opposition the best…
A good 6 inning performance tomorrow by the hardest to hit (lowest BAA) SP in MLB tomorrow and game 162 ends the torture. That appears to be the face of justice in this totally weird season between these two teams.
Yes, Michael, there is much on Torres, Posey and Huff. Guillen didn’t help. But the full onus of the game goes to Zits. That first inning performance put the old hex right back on SF. Psyched out our offense. The irredeemable irritation of walking in two runs right off the get-go set the tone for the entire game. Bochy managed the situation extremely well, yanking Zits when he did. The DP Ray induced atoned somewhat for his initial inability to stop the bleeding. From that point onwards the BP was once more sterling and again featured second line relievers who showed one helluva lot more moxy and desire to win than did the $126M man.
So back to tomorrow’s start. Sanchez maintains his control tomorrow for six and the pressure’s back on the Dagos. Latos is dragging. Their BP is really dragging. Their closer is on fumes.
Poetic image of a pitcher who has bettered his game consistently through the years of his rise into becoming the most unhittable lefty in the game. A confident Drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrty tomorrow and the hitters will take heart.
I also get a feeling that the three underperformers of today’s offense may make a little noise. True poetry would see Torrid Torres reach first to start the bottom of the first and dances around there so much that a runt plinks an opposite field single. Latos gets all nervous on Huff the Magic Dragon, walking him and then faces Buster Open.
Poetic Payback.
Here’s the deal, pay attention. Bochy got them this far by not wavering EVER. As soon as he flipped Cain and Zito he added to the pressure on Matt and told Zito he had zero confidence in him. We’ll ever know how it would have gone but we do know this: Once again, Mikey rules. And gee,I hope vrrbrr isn’t waiting by the phone for his apology..
You realize, of course, you’re merely paraphrasing your POTD. Guessing some folks don’t read
I totally disagree, each of these 3 game had almost the same amount of pressure, for different reasons. Fri night was gauranteed to be pressure packed. Sat could have been the less pressure gm had they had Cain gojng— start zito sat and you amp the pressure meter up to max.
Well, you’re wrong. Plus you are disagreeing with your own post.
“If Bum takes care of business tonight we only need to win one vs the Padres but if Cain doesn’t do it do we really want to put it in Zito’s hands on Saturday? And then face a do or die must win Sun? Unappealing scenario…..”
As often happens, Flavor disagrees with the King for no reason at all
I see the point you make but I agree with Flavor – to me Friday was more pressure than Sat – Everybody was amped for a clincher Friday. zito is zito, not that concerned with him but if matt can’t handle replacing a zito start what will he do against the the 250 bazillion dollar yankee lineup? thats what im a little nervous about…. i expect to find out the answer to that BTW. the bottom line is we still play monday if we lose tomorrow so the ultimate pressure game is still out there
I like Dirty’s attitude. When they asked him about his “stuff”, he said he always has it. “Sometimes it doesn’t work”.
He flipped Cain to be able to go tim-Cain in the playoffs. And it’s biting him him the ass now. You can’t bank on something u don’t have….
Tim/Cain would have gone ThursdayFriday without the flip.
Why does everyone have to be babied? It’s a fuckin’ baseball game. How much pressure is there to do what you’ve done your whole life and you’re one of the top few hundred in the world at doing it? Plus you’ll get your millions even if you fail. That’s pressure?
Yes. Because Zito is a celebrity. So he will spend the rest of his life reading his name in the paper with loser in the same sentence.
And at the age of 68, while he’s drinking his 45 year old scotch, smoking his primo herb and languishing with his $2,000 an hour call girl, he’ll think to himself, “Gosh. That’s not how I envisioned people would think of me.”

WTF are you talking about? I said many times after the switch that i thought it was a stupid decision. What’s your point here, we were both saying the same thing…….
Kruk spent 10 mins on his show explaining why Bochy moved Cain. He did it so that he could go Tim/Cain for the first 2 games of the playoffs. I didn’t check the calendar or run the dates but 10 mins of Kruk’s morning show was he and Murph and Idiot going back and forth about this……
You just posted that you disagreed. Even millionaires are human. Bochy created a situation where in effect he told Cain-“you have to do it”, and to Zito-“you can’t”. Leaving the rotation alone was the right call. Others can SPECULATE how it might have gone- we have the PROOF of how it went. Not good.
Maybe I’m not understanding your point. You posted it was a bad idea after Bochy did the switch. I posted at least twice the same thing. Where am I disagreeing with my own post? we all thought this was a stupid ass decision and we all posted that when he did this. It’s possible I’m missing your point and I’m open to looking at that. Am I?
I just watched BONNIE AND CLYDE. One thing I could never figure out, and I’m guessing it’s an actor’s vanity thing, is at the end when Dunaway and Beatty get all shot up in slow motion, Beatty gets hit on every part of his body but his ass.
And MAN Faye Dunaway was (is?) a fucking knockout
By the original plan, Tim would have gone Thursday, Cain today. If they wrapped it up tomorrow, Tim goes on a weeks rest, Cain 5 days rest. He SAID it was to set it up for the postseason to spare Zito’s feelings. Zito’s not THAT stupid. He knows that Bochy was praying Cain would do it because he wanted no part of Zits.
bochy was right, good to know he has got a brain inside that big head
He’s right not to trust Zito, wrong to change the rotation. It can’t be argued that it fucking worked.
your right about that, it didn’t work out too well through no fault of bochy
He was wrong to change the rotation. Drop it, SloBoy.
I dunno. What are you disagreeing with at 6:43?
Great. Make everyone scroll up to see what the fuck you’re talking about. I’m confused enough as it is.
i was disagreeing with WSWIn’s 6:38 post. See, a little communication goes a long way…….
You too
Yes, Snarkk did post that he agreed with “Oracle” and you subsequently agreed as well. But several disagreed. It was hardly unanimous.
Whatever. I felt what I felt, I fucking posted it when I got to a computer. The fact about who said it first is inconsequential. If we got our opinion in BEFORE the outcome happened, we’re all in. Everyone else is out.
Don’t worry, I’m always glad to help you formulate your thoughts 😉
I guess I’m out. I liked the idea of starting Cain yesterday. I agree that it was a total dis to Zito. But I figured Bochy just completely lost faith in him. It fucked up big time. But it didn’t lose the Giants a playoff spot
Well, the only guy who didn’t get fucked with goes tomorrow.
That’s probably a good thing
If it actually did go to Tuesday for the WC, it’s Bumgarner. If they prevailed, Cain would then open the Phils series and they’d almost have to go with Zits in game 2. Bummed enough, yet? Where’s Wellemeyer? 😉
“Where’s Wellemeyer?”
A popular kid’s book
In ’71 they had to use Marichal to beat SD on the final day. Screwed them for the NLCS.
I appreciate you forseeing drrrty as POTG tomorrow.
And I appreciate that chick’s rack
how about appreciating what happens when you stare at that pic for a bit. Trippy. Porn. or something, I dunno…..
ok guys, I am out tonight. Don’t let the last 2 days fuck with you. That’s just pride fucking with you. And with that, I give you a final quote:
“The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting. That’s pride fucking with you. Fuck pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps”. -Marcellus Wallace: Pulp Fiction
That might not be POTD but it should be QUOTE of the day………
and to be clear, when I said “porn or something” I wAS referring to something weird that happens when, you know, you stare at that weird ass picture for like a minute. Come on, who doesn’t have a minute? Do it…….G’night!
Flav, I’ve stared at the picture over and over again and besides the two guys with beards and the dude making the “OK” sign, it looks no different from my usual Tuesday night. But, since we’re quoting PULP FICTION:
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”
Drrrty. Take care of them tomorrow.
Goodnight, gentlemen (?)
well said ted. some vengeance will go down well. the 2010 giants are torture, but they don’t have an ounce of quit.
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Flavor, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call’d the feast of the Padres.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of the Padres.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Fuck the Padres.’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say ‘These wounds I had on Fuck the Padre’s day.’
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Torres the lead off, Posey and Huff,
Burrell and Panda, Wilson and Romo-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Fuck the Padres shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
I swear. That brought tears to my eyes
Obviously, the man hasn’t been a Giant fan for very long…
