Well, that didn’t work. Bochy and the Giants had everything aligned last night but the stars. And now we turn to….HIM. You guys already know about fake hustle. Ever heard of fake confidence? That’s what I’m rollin’ with today. I found one stat that can fuel my fake confidence, at least for a day: Zito in October for his career: 4 starts, 2-0, 2.70 ERA, .212 batting average against…….
I’m really more worried about the hitting than Zit(uh)0 They were tighter than a drum last night. Franchez looked like he was on 10 tabs of adderall when he stepped to the plate. These guys have GOT to chill out and manage their adrenaline better. Baseball is a game played with squashed emotion, not unbridled emotion. I think he’s a chump but Stauffer has been very good lately. We could be headed for another 1-0, 2-1 deal and all that’s going to do is continue to build up tension, edginess and anxiety— not too easy to hit when that’s happening either…….
Going into last night this was just way too easy, wasn’t it? You don’t base your entire season on torture and then just saunter into the post season with a few games to spare– this could get much uglier before it gets better. The next few days could feel like a lifetime……..

Well, what does this say about Cain? Can he handle the pressure of the post season? Other than Zito, nobody on the pitching staff has been here before. So if it comes down to Sanchez who is Mr. Emotional, can he get it done. Posey did a good job with him his last start calming him down and the Giants won. I hope Posey can do that with Zito today keep him calm. Can’t say our bats went to sleep, scored 4 runs and usually that is enough for a win. To take the pressure off the Giants need to score first. I think everyone will settle down if that happens. The best of times and the worst of times.

Missed most of the game last night. Oh well. Out of town company dropped in right at the end of the first inning and puter’s in the other room. By the time they left the Giants were finally scoring in the sixth. But by the bottom of the 8th i was tired in more ways than one so shut it down and hit the sack.
Too much birthday cake yesterday. Not only Cain, but Franchez and much of the team was wound tighter than a snare drum. Sometimes i guess you can want to win waaaaay to much and consequently lose your edge.
Okay, so its today. Zito gets the chance to earn his keep. We’ll see. Couple things i did like about last night: Team battled back and made it interesting. Last year, and earlier this season they would have merely rolled over and lubed. Bochy managed his bullpen perfectly. He used Runzler, Ray, Mota and Affeldt. These are the guys who haven’t pitched much lately because there are doubts about their reliability. Well, in five innings they gave up a grand total of two hits, two walks and ZERO runs.
Other side of the ticket was that because of the difference in standings Black was obliged to go to his go-to guys: Adams, Gregerson and Bell. The closer got run out for a couple innings. While the Giants primary relievers are now quite decently rested, the Dagos pen may be dragging a bit. That little factor may make some difference come the sixth or seventh inning today.
If that $126M investment means anything, today is the day. Get it done.
