A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Promises are meant to be kept…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 3, 2010

As we discussed last night, if Atlanta loses today we are in and there will be no 1-game playoff to decide the NL West winner/WC winner–today would be that game. But I don’t think Atlanta is going to lose with Hudson pitching and Charlie Dumbass resting all his players and pitchers. I think Hamels is slated to go 2 innings today.

So, back to our game today…..And who better to have going than the guy who guaranteed it all way back when. Dirrrrty Sanchez. Back in August he guaranteed a sweep of the Padres and a division crown. That prediction didn’t work out then but he’s in a position to make good on the long term prediction of the division title if he can shut the Pads down (and we scratch out a few runs for him). If you think about it, this is the perfect way to end the season—a victory in the final game of the season that locks up the division pitched by the guy who guaranteed all of this for us 6 weeks ago…….

So make it so, young Dirrrrty. Do whatever it takes to fulfill your promise to us. I have an unwavering belief in your foresight and your intuition. But, just in case,  I hope to God you’ve flown your dad in for this game…….

I seem to recall him also saying something about taking first and never looking back. Well they can complete that today. Flav I agree, Daddy Dirty should be sitting right by the dugout.

Nice to see SF make some inroads vs. Pads pen, esp. Bell, whom they had on the ropes yesterday.

Sanchez has been pretty tough on Pads all year, and it is supposed to be a foggy day in SF temp low 60s. 4.3 runs ought to do it.

Latos quote in SF chron deriding Giants for acquiring likes of Burrell, Guillen, Ross, Fontenot and relievers “….We’ve been the same team all year” is complete BS. I guess Tejada and Ludwick hitting around AGon hasn’t meant anything to their puff ball offense. Great day to shove that BS back in his face.

I hate the thought of backing in to the WC. Frankly, I want to see Atl win, forcing the G’s to take care of business, even if it means going back to SD. Then, I’ll be pulling hard for the Braves to win the WC.

Willied, good point. Their late inning relief should be gassed. I believe Adams has been used 5 straight days, Bell and Grego 4. Latos has only been lasting 4-5 lately. Get to him and party on.

Today’s lineup is a goddamn joke. Torres leading off? Willie Mac Award don’t mean shit for today. Fruckie? Sucks. Huff still batting 3rd? Stoopid. Buster clean up? Give Whitey a chance. Burrell in LF again? We’d be better off with Fred Lew out there. Juan-Gone batting 6th? We should have 86’d him last year. Cody hitting 7th? He should be starting for the Padres today. We didn’t want his sorry ass to begin with, you take’em. My bestest friend Orson Welles batting 8th? I’m not even going to dignify him being in the lineup with a fat joke. I have respect for the large portioned.

Bochy waited all the way to game #162 to assemble the WORST possible crew imaginable.
Fire his stoopid ass! We have NO, NADA, NONE, ZERO chance to win today with this shit. This crap is so bad I’m surprised Alex Smith’s name is not in the lineup. This shit is utterly hopeless. This lineup has “see ya Monday in San Diego” written all over it. Why bother, let’s just hop on the plane now and get a head start. This shit sucks Donkey Kong!

See ya guys later for the game after the 49ers make it four straight. Fire Singletary!
Now that I think about it, Singletary could have made a better lineup than Bochy.

Once again I try to find someplace, anyplace, to dump Zito. The Yankees version of Zito is Burnett who has another $49.5 million guaranteed on his deal. Zito has another $ 64.5 million to go. Maybe something can be worked out. Maybe take Swisher ($9 million) with him as Yanks are likely to go after Werth and/or Crawford…

Reiterating the point i made yesterday: Solid six by Sanchez and the Giants are the likely winners. Primaries in the Giants BP are well rested and eager to prove their mettle. On the other side Latos has been dragging lately; Adams and Gregerson are worn down and Bell had just enough in him to rack up brain dead Guillen into that DP yesterday. Of course it’s on the Giants hitters as well to get to Latos early and keep up the pressure. No more torture! Let’s pile on the runs.

I agree, Zito is only a disaster relative to his contract and the rest of the staff. I’ll bravely note that Zito was actually kinda unlucky yesterday. Torrealba and Hairston approached their ABs strategically and were not going to swing at anything but fastballs down the middle of the plate.

I don’t know how the Giants game will turn out today, but clearly all the momentum is in the Padres favor.
And I disagree with TF- Tejada bunting those two runners over in the first inning was just a dagger into the Giants and Zito. It was Black’s statement- “you guys can’t hit our pitching this weekend.” The Giants seem somewhat intimidated by Padre pitching. Well, for good reason, maybe, because of how good the Padre staff has been this season, overall.
But, as a lot of you have pointed out, that bullpen has gotten really stretched this week. Could be a real factor today.

    • Michael's avatar Michael said, on October 3, 2010 at 11:25 am

Well, you’re wrong.Instead of Tejada and Gonzales hitting, they got 2 walks. Score couda/shoulda been 5 or 6 zip.

      • zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on October 3, 2010 at 12:19 pm

A case can be made it wasn’t the best move, but I do think Black was playing a head game on the Giants. He believes he can intimidate the Giants by getting a run early. The Giants just need to go out and put a crooked number up early, and RELAX and play ball.

    ewisco,
Grudgingly, I have to take off, and surrender, albeit temporarily, the Baseball Blogger’s Effete Epistolary Crown also at times worn by Stixwix, Snarkk, Alleykat, and DJLoo, for your Elizabethan, Jamesian, faux-Biblical hymn of Padresian Armageddon. Wear the crown proudly, it being an ephemeral joy. Salud! (Loo, good stats!) (Speaking of historic October baseball, I heard some goons — announcer/commentator/kids — on a national radio show connect Bobby Thomson’s homer to a feckin Dodgers’ victory. Goons! Then they proceeded to give playoff scenarios, and my 13-year-old daughter, on the way to church with me, said, “Turn them off, even I knew they were wrong on The Shot Heard ‘Round the World and they’ll be wrong on this.” They were. I did.)
