A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Promises are meant to be kept…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 3, 2010

As we discussed last night, if Atlanta loses today we are in and there will be no 1-game playoff to decide the NL West winner/WC winner–today would be that game. But I don’t think Atlanta is going to lose with Hudson pitching and Charlie Dumbass resting all his players and pitchers. I think Hamels is slated to go 2 innings today.

So, back to our game today…..And who better to have going than the guy who guaranteed it all way back when. Dirrrrty Sanchez. Back in August he guaranteed a sweep of the Padres and a division crown. That prediction didn’t work out then but he’s in a position to make good on the long term prediction of the division title if he can shut the Pads down (and we scratch out a few runs for him). If you think about it, this is the perfect way to end the season—a victory in the final game of the season that locks up the division pitched by the guy who guaranteed all of this for us 6 weeks ago…….

So make it so, young Dirrrrty. Do whatever it takes to fulfill your promise to us. I have an unwavering belief in your foresight and your intuition. But, just in case,  I hope to God you’ve flown your dad in for this game…….

Yeah, NOW they can talk post-season roster. They tried there best to jinx us earlier.
I’ll make a bold suggestion. NO Whitey. Only time he’d play is if Buster falls dead on the field.
I know they’ll never do it, but I’d send Vern and Vera their son home early. He’s just taking up space.

    When is Game 1, Thursday?

  51. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on October 3, 2010 at 4:22 pm

Thank you Wilson. Thank you Giants. Division champs. Of course it had to be against the team that tormented us the most this year, the puking, pesky Padres. And in game 162 no less. Wonder if Hollywood could have possibly scripted such a season.

After downing the Dagos when it absolutely counted the most, the rest of the schedule, beginning with Atlanta, does not look nearly as daunting. Braves and Phillies do not have the sticky, tacky pitching the Padres do and now that the birthday is over Cain should be back to his norm. Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez plus the nastiest bullpen in baseball should keep both those teams humble. None of the AL teams scare me either. Friars were the toughie this season.

    Go Giants!

My Team MVP Vote for Regular season:

    1) Andres Torres

    2) Brian Wilson

    3) Buster Posey

    4) Aubrey Huff

Huff was the first half MVP for me, but when Torres was out, we saw how dysfunctional our lineup was.

The post-season roster will be interesting to see who makes it. They have to keep a bunch of defensive replacements on the roster (will Renteria be healthy enough?) and can they get away with a 10-man staff in a short series with how dominating our pen is?

If I were Sabean and Bochy, my first decision: “We are sad to announce that Barry Zito has a muscle strain and will be put on the DL for the playoffs!”

  71. Kevin's avatar Kevin said, on October 3, 2010 at 4:58 pm

    Huff
    Torres
    Posey

Only cause Huff was doing it from day one!!

  72. zumarust's avatar zumarust said, on October 3, 2010 at 4:59 pm

In retrospect, that guarantee by Sanchez several weeks did seem to jolt the team in the right direction. It’d be interesting to know their record since his guarantee. They were something like 6 games behind the Padres at the time. Sanchez got a second chance to make good on his guarantee, and he did.

No sportswriter. No one, not even SF beat writers, predicted us to win the NL West. And I myself doubted it.

Sabean and Bochy and Muelens and Rags and everyone else deserve credit.
