A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Breaking this Series Down Old Skool Without Numbers

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 16, 2010

I’m sorry but that was just too many days without baseball. And there’s not much we can debate or analyze since that’s all been done ad nauseam. But from a completely general, no numbers analyzed perspective, this is how I see these two teams matching up.

Starting pitching: This area starts and ends with the Giants. We have the best starting 4 in baseball…..Edge: Giants

Relief pitching: again, the edge goes to us. Atlanta had a significantly better BP than the Phillies. Edge: Giants

Closer: Wilson > Lidge. Lidge had a good season but he’s not the dominant guy he was in 2008 and he’s only pitched once in the last 2 weeks. He can turn bad quicker than one of Huff’s game worn thongs….. Edge: Giants

Experience: Obvious Edge: Phillies

Hitting: the fact is, our offense is a million miles away from the “De Rosa/Rowand/Bowker” opener. Top to bottom our guys can hit a bomb or a critical hit at any given point in the game. And our hitters get better when we go to their park, there’s get arguably worse when they come to ours. Edge: Even

team speed: big edge to the Phillies (108 sb’s  > 55 sb’s). I’m counting on Posey showing off that cannon early in the series to gun down some base runners and hopefully make them think twice about running wild on us…..Edge: Phillies

defense: I haven’t watched enough Phillies games this year to have a feel of how their team defense is but we are near the top of the NL in fewest team errors with 73.  The Phillies are behind us with 83. Edge: Giants

So there ya go. I don’t think you could argue too much of what I’ve posted above. Then how is it that the Phillies are considered such huge favorites by the National media? Answer: Ignorance and hubris.  Guys like Keith Law and his band of cronies, who write stuff just to get noticed, were wrong about this team all year. They were wrong about them last year. WE are the experts of this team, not them. And this doesn’t have anything to do with being a blind fan, I pretty much nailed my win predictions in 2007 and 2008 when they sucked.

I don’t have a prediction on this series. It could go either way. A clutch hit here. A huge mistake there. But my friends, what I do know is that *glory and destiny* are but 8 wins away…….

Might be all Tim needs…..wonder who was last guy to blast 2 off Doc in one game?

Refuse to listen to dynamic doofuses….Horace Silver on the laptop, Donald Byrd on trumpet. We stay ahead, he stays on.

Great move by Bochy to pinch run Shitholtz for Burrell. No way Pat scores from second on that hit. Skipper said just the opposite earlier this week about letting Pat play longer, but he senses the moment at hand. That fourth run was HUGE.

    Way to go skipper.

Kruk & Kuip are giving a great description of how all the Philly fans look dazed and confused. We lost?

You’re goddamn right you lost. Man, all kinds of POTG potentials, but I’ll go a little outside the box and give a “Lon Simmons pick” to our LOOGY, Lopez. That was huge getting those 2 outs in the 8th and keeping them down. Javier made fast work of Utley and Howard, and set it up for Wilson to torture us once again. It’s torture, but it’s a win. It’s a win baby and that’s all that matters.

    WE WIN ! !

Nate’s pinch run and Uribe finally gettign a hit was just monumental…

We will score 4 off Oswalt tomorrow and Sanchez will not give up 3. Javy Lopez cannot be touched by Utley and Howard and how long will the Phillies keep Jimmy Rollins batting 6th?

Timmy was not even on his A game tonight and threw really one bad pitch with that challenge fastball to Werth, everything else was played damn near perfectly by this team. Torres needs to get a bunt down in the first tomorrow just to get things going or Fontenot may get some swings at leadoff..

I’ve had enough of the fans, but we can’t underestimate tomorrow’s game. The stadium and the team is going to come out angry and rockin’ — but what a chance for Sanchez to demoralize this city! The kids challenge Parker to race home, Parker takes a short cut to where his mom is waiting for him, with the back hatch open. He jumps in the car, and his mom drives off with him. What?

National sports pundits, prognosticators and poohbahs are dining finely on Corvus Brachyrynchos tonight after the shocker in Philly, where their team in red got put to bed by the longhaired freak; a loogie with a nasty, slippery sidearm slant and a big dude whose deep-dyed beard sure doesn’t match his medium-brown topknot.

If everybody’s favorite, Doc Halladay, was planning on a Holiday with another no-no, celebrations got rudely interrupted in the third as Cody Ross skyed one into the bandbox night. Then lightning struck in the same place on the same pitch two innings later as the accidental Giant sandwiched the Ruiz reply, causing rapid sagulation in the white towels of the home-fans out to see their reigning heroes squash the Western Division upstarts, lacking even a recognizable superstar on the field.

But it was not the bombs which won the game. With a couple outs Buster, Pat the Bat and the Juan and only Juan on the entire team put on a bit of an exhibition on how to harass Halladay. Normally a swing from the heals hacker, Uribe contributed the ultimate winning hit with a smooth, measured stroke down the middle. That was one professional at-bat.

Watched the game on Fox at a friend’s house. He’s no fan of the game, but put up with me and a pastime he was never introduced to at the proper age. Fox coverage was slanted heavily towards the Phillies and was shitty game coverage to boot. There was not so much as a pitch-count either mentioned or graphiced. Little wonder that network and its game-callers were a bit shocked at having to eat crow.

Halloween Machine needs only seven more wins for the Orange and Black October.
