Best Record in ST, But Still Finding Things to Complain About
Being 11-4 isn’t anything to complain about. Or care about. There are a few minor disappointments so far this Spring:
1) Brandon Belt is showing us why he’s going to start the year in Fresno. Hitting .250 with a .323 OBP is just not good.
2) Marc Kroon isn’t getting much of a look. He’s nearly the career saves leader in Japan and he throws close to 100 mph. He’s only pitched 3 innings so far this Spring, I was hoping to see more of him.
3) Rowand is hitting .111 and is hurt. The .111 isn’t much of a shocker but the fact that he can’t even make it onto the field is a disappointment. Sabean can’t “Pittsburgh” anyone with Rowand unable to even play.
4) We are stuck with another year of El Presidente. Stewart is doing nothing, as expected. I still don’t understand why we don’t have a credible back up for our best hitter/player….
Kansas City has the best record in the AL right now, by the way……
11-4…. 11-4… why does that numerical sequence ring a bell. Ah, yes..
???
Chuck, don’t tell me your erudition starts and stops with Frank Zappa? How about this sequence: 4, 6, 5
465 Ocean Blvd?
Belt will indeed start in Fresno if he hits as he has-that was not the question, though. Be aware of that..
As to Kroon, there isn’t a spot for him, he’ll probably open in Fresno and he or Edlefson would be the first recall in case of injury…
Don’t understand the love affair with Vera’s boy, either. There were a shitload of FA catchers available this winter.
They need to make room for Ford whether he hits or not. He’s probably the fastest player in the game and he’s a GOOD baserunner. He’ll win several games on the bases late. If that means goodbye to Nate, so be it.
I totally see the value of Ford over Nate and I hope the team sees the same thing.
I take Nate over Ford, easily. Ford needs at least another 1/2 year in the minors, if not a whole season. His D is fine, he needs to work on how to use his speed to get on base consistently…
Ted get out of bed and look at the BB for today
And the title of today’s BB pic: Pudenda Beach. Man. Some of the poses these beautiful women assume. I sort of liked that video snarkk linked to yesterday. Even if it’s cheesy production, isn’t it nice to see the women move around a bit, smile and talk. You know, like real people?
Camelback Mountain or cameltoe??? Let’s check with the BB…cameltoe it is!
I know we rag on the Dodgers a lot, but seriously….did you all see the size of that “crowd” at the Dodger game yesterday, on the MLB network broadcast? There was hardly anyone there. Wow. That says a lot of about Dodger fan interest in the Dodgers these days.
The camera would pan into the home “crowd”, and the Dodger broadcasters would get real quiet. What could they say? It was a total embarrassment.
by contrast, as Kuip pointed out on the radio this morning, yesterday’s crowd at the Reds ST park contained so many Giants fans they were able to stop the game with their standing O when Renteria came to the plate. He tipped his cap, apparently. Now there’s a bunch of happy fans!
I’m on board with no Nate, yes Ford. I’ll bet Darren’s late inning D will be as valuable as Nate’s has been, and the kid is a holy terror on the base paths.
most…inviting…bb…ever
What???? LOL
The Dogs were huge in Fla. No interest now that they moved to AZ.
Camelback was packed for last week’s doyers Giants night game…. packed with Giants fans hahahaha!
That stadium is a bitch to get to, but the dirt parking lot makes it a lot easier to park and the staduim is pretty cool…
I have not seen anything on Rohand being injured. What’s wrong with him?…
Chronic anemic ineptitude
Try to say *that* 3 times fast
Never mind, I just googled and found an obscure reference to some sort of minor groin injury a few days ago. Was he not riding the bike this past winter? Wasn’t that the thing that was going to turn him around last ST? This guy has got to go. At any price, just get it done. He’s hitting a buck something, then get’s injured so itz even more difficult to trade him? I’d put him on the sixty day DL to start the season and then make him play a rehab stint in Fresno, then trade his ass in June to some obscure team for a popsicle stick after he hits about .200 there. Just be done with this dude…
And BTW, why no “inside source” management rant leaked against the Gamer so far in ST? Zito gets a broadside, but the Gamer gets a pass? Since he signed, he’s given as poor production as Zito, maybe worse, for the money spent…
Probably becasue they aren’t counting on Rowand to start . . .
Snarkk; Good points on Row-row. I like the 60 day and the Fresno gig. That way maybe the Giants can have their Ford and Nate it too.
Who has the better year, Rowand or Zito?
My money’s on today’s BB to score more than Rowand and have a more impressive WHIP than Zito.
Maybe Rowand and Zito can get together and have a few beers here: http://tiny.cc/bslrn
Who knows? A handful of beers for Rohand might help. The 500 swings a day thing the last few years sure ain’t workin’…
Our Cactus League ERA is 2.80? That’s downright ridiculously unfathomable. You just don’t see those kind of numbers in March. Might even be too good for our own sake. Reminds me of when the Niners go 4-0 in the preseason. That never seems to bode well. So for the good of the team in the regular season, here’s to seeing our spring ERA take an upward tick.
Dennis, never ever jinks your team by suggesting what their win/loss/ERA/strikeouts etc be for ST. right now it appears that they just picked up where they left off on Nov 1. as long as they peak in mid Sept I am fine with everything that leads up to that. 162 games is a lot of games.
Wow this earthquake and Tsunami is just crazy. Crescent city and Santa Cruz, not good
One of the best places I’ve ever lived was a cabin on 4th Ave in SC overlooking the front harbor. It’s mind boggling to think of all of those fancy sailboats rocking and colliding and slamming into the docks and shoals and sinkiing.
xoot, ever spend any time at Brady’ Yatch Club?
Nope. I’m sure Brady’s was there in the 70s, but I don’t remember stopping in.
I remember my uncle took me hunting for yatch once. Up in Ely, Minnesotta
My uncle took me snatch hunting a few times . . . Rush St. in Chi-town. . .
It’s ‘yacht’
CF Rowand, SS Fontenot, 3B Sandoval, LF Ishikawa, 1B Belt, RF Schierholtz, 2B Burriss, C Stewart or Whiteside, P Lincecum
“Stewart or NO Whitey.” I’d hate to be in Bochy’s shoes. That’s one tough decision.
Tonight’s lineup is so bad I won’t even give it the dignity of my bitchin’ and moanin’.
I’m above that.
Since when?
It’s sad when rich people’s yachts get damaged.
I like boats. And some (not a huge number, but some) owners of nice boats live on them year round.
Santa Cruz harbor ain’t exactly the St Francis Yacht Club. It’s mainly a working-class (fishing) harbor.
You know, like Pier 39 about 40 years ago.
The front harbor always has had a lot of nice sailboats. The chiming sound of stays smacking masts made windy nights entertaining. A friend of mine launched at SC harbor a 28 foot sloop he built. (He was painter; his wife a teacher in Watsonville.) We sailed the boat to Vancouver the following May. Nobody mistook us for rich-guy yachtsmen.
Whats that restuarant right there? Ahhh, the Crow’s Nest . . .
Great place . . . spent many a night at the bar back in the day . . .
Same with the Shadowbrook.
Haven’t been there in years . . .
Got to get down there soon . . .
I get like 3 of these types of emails a day. Hilarious.
Liu Wang to info
show details 1:19 PM (2 hours ago)
I am Liu Wang,I ask for your partnership in re-profiling funds I will give you the
details but in summary, the funds are coming via Bank of Taipei in Taiwan.
Nothing beats re-profiling funds on a Friday afternoon
If his name was DJ Liu Wang, I’d be worried . . .
Chuck, have you figured out 11-4 or 4,6,5 yet?
25 or 6 2 4 is all I got now.
465 was 465 Ocean Blvd. Where Clapton cut an album.
Ballgames are pretty good times for the boring but necessary OT exercises-crumpling paper, threading objects on a string, etc…
That’s a heck of a LU,Dennis. They’ve played Travis in LF a lot. Looking forward to seeing him there, I’d guess he’s better than Huff or Burrell. Destination Pittsburgh?
Speaking of yachts I saw this yesterday while waiting at the dentist:
The son of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea’s president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema planned to build one of the world’s most expensive yachts. The superyacht would have cost 288 million euros which is approximatly 10 times what the government spends on health, education and welfare.
Teodorin earns 5,000 euros a month as a government minister, but “despite this he owns a 35 million dollar mansion in Malibu as well as a gulf stream jet”, said one observer. “According to my very rough calculations it would take him over 4,000 years to pay for this yacht with his official salary.”
Average income is €2500 and unemployment is around 30%
It’s good to be (son of) the king.
All this happened in the waiting room?
I see the game is on KNTV tonight.
The last time I watched channel 2 Jack LaLanne had an exercise show.
May he rest in peace. 🙂
NO Whitey is 0 fer the spring thus far. You just can’t help but love that sorry-ass piece of shit.
Every other back-up SF Giant catcher before him was known as “NO Trophy”.
ba-dum!
Game’s on? What fucking channel?
I can’t find shit . . .
MLB Network…..assuming you can find your TV.
well, it’s not 4, 6 or 5, Chuck. Try 3.
NO Whitey has an average.
1. Congrats on turning “Pittsburgh” into a verb, Magnus. They needed that.
2. Although y’all might roll your eyes at this, I suggest the ST record means something; not everything, but something. Losing is a habit. So is winning. And winning is better, as we all baskingly know. No one wants to go out there and lose. They simply don’t. Also, you can look this up, but I am pretty certain that traditionally [say, since the 1970s] the Giants have to have a winning spring to have a good year; not necessarily a stellar ST but .500 or above. They seem to need that. I like winning, even in ST.
Well. even if one subscribes to the notion that the record doesn’t mean anything, then why not win? Losing doesn’t mean anything either..
winning.
sorry….winning!
Nice first inning for the Scrubinis
Just checked out the schedule after hearing something Morgan said.
22 out of the first 31 on the road! That ain’t fair.
I meant Miller, not Morgan. They’re easily confused.
But they have 5 off days in April, too. It’ll work out ok.
And I agree, Miller and Mogan look and sound so much alike, it’s confusing. But I think Joe’s the one with the moustache.
Pawlie, I remember Dusty Baker saying something like that near the end of one spring training, not sure which year that was; the team was losing more than winning that spring, and someone asked Baker if he was concerned. He said no, win-loss record in ST means nothing, but he also said he always wants to see the team “get into the habit of winning” in the last couple weeks of ST heading into the season. One thing that seems to make this particular Giants team special is that they do truly seem to understand how to enjoy winning. I watched some of the World Series videos on YouTube again last night (after Kevin posted that “27 last outs” link)… this is truly a fun team.
I’m just absolutely blown away by how Sandoval looks right now. He’s like a completely different person. He looks like a total stud athlete with an edge to him. He’s moving around like one, too.
Last year on that first to third he’s needing oxygen…
on his back at the SS position.
Even his skin color looks different. It’s like he’s darker or tanner, or something. Last year he had a jello-ey brownish yellow hue to him. Now he’s got this crisp, dark look. Am I going crazy or does Sandoval look like a totally different human being????
Ah, I knew they’d figure out a way to get Villalona into the country…
Fastest damn Ford I’ve ever seen.
I meant to post that elsewhere. And I competely forgot about Ford’s racing division (Le Mans, F1, etc.). My apologies to Henry.
How about little Mike Fontenot? He has show power tonight.
Smacking around Latos is fun whether it’s spring training or the real games.
Maybe Pablo has been drinking tiger blood and snorting charlie sheen.
COuld that dude interviewing ROwand be any closer to him? lol. *close talker*.
When I think Judge Reinhold, I don’t think of him being the “close talker” on Seinfeld.
I think of Phoebe Cates walking outta that pool. “Doesn’t anybody knock any more!?!?”
Fucking Krukow. He’s really a talented guy. Last weekend he was dazzling Miller on the radio, during lulls, with wonderful recreations of the calls of his favoirte vendors from his minor league days. The whole thing started with description of how close the players are to the stands in ST. Krukow’s renditions were like folk opera. But he gets these innalectchul notiions — the arm slot, of course, and now, the dead-arm time in ST. He becomes determined to prove his hypotheses. Lincecum threw 94 mph FBs in the first inning, but 91 in the 4th. His arm’s not dead, it’s just not at full strength yet. Everything’s fine.
I’m over Sheen. I thought the “bipolar/bi winning” comment was funny but he’s just not that interesting anymore. He’s an legitimate ass, who isn’t too bright, going through an “I don’t give a fuck” stage. I think I liked him better when he was on drugs……..
The umpire called the IF fly rule with no runner on 1B, no forcre play at more than two bases? Fire that piece of dung.
Yeah BF, Sandovallooks totally different. His face is not as round. He really lost some weight and tone up!
Wonder if he’s related to one of my first BB cards, Charlie Neal.
You had a Charlie Neal Bikini Babe card? Sweet. Fiery redhead if I recall.
I really don’t watch tv anymore, at least for the last few years. Giants games, an occasional Niner game, a little bit of CNN. That’s it. I’ve never seen 2 and 1/2 Men. If it’s as good as everyone says it and it’s making the sick $ they say it’s making, then the producer is a pussy if he’s going to cancel the show just because Sheen said mean things about him…
The show is juvenile, stupid, and appeals to the lowest common denominator. You’d love it!
My 13 year old kid digs it.
Sniff…..my intuits tell me to skip it.
Sheen has lost it, he can’t tell the difference between the real Charlie and the one he plays on TV. It is kinda sad really.
Any of you ever watch Celebrity Jeopardy? They’re ALL fucking idiots. The one that surprised me was Anderson Cooper- total moron. I recall Cheech Marin being the smartest of the lot.And he’d be last in the Teen tournament..

Sorry but this is fucking killing me.
I have to explain 11-4 and 4,6,5 to chuck
See…the Giants won 11 games in the post season, lost 4
First, they won against Atlanta 3-1, then they won against Philidelphia 4-2, then they won against Texas 4-1.
Hence…
Chuck’s reply, “BLEEP YOU!”
