A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Finally Coming Home and It’s Kentucky Oaks Day, Baby

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 6, 2011

Who wouldn’t be excited about coming home? Unfortunately, I don’t think this will be a magical cure for what’s ailing us these days. We were unbelievably lucky to go .500 on that trip. We played bad teams and hit against bad pitchers yet we still managed to scratch out a win here and there. But counting on Eli Whiteside and Mike Fontenot to carry you to victory is probably not the blueprint for a return to the World Series. Ubaldo v Cain tonight. Ubaldo is pitching awful this year but he’s still got three wicked pitches so I expect tonight to be another *scratcher*…….

It’s Oaks day and I’m assuming most of you aren’t interested in me breaking it down. I’ll create a page to the right for it. One note: I left Beyer speed figures behind a long time ago. I am a Sheets disciple to the core. That’s the back bone of my analysis……..

The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings

(Dirt falls, GH continues his schitzophrenic ways and Edd discovers that the loneliest number is actually *14*)

    Nice job by The Beard.
Just poured myself another finger of the Four Roses Small Batch.
Time to take this one home, baby. Letz get ‘er done…

Top of the 9th went so fast Dennis didn’t have enough time to bitch about Wilson coming in.

OK, you guys can give me shit (well deserved) that we brought in our closer in a non-save situation.

But trust me. The numbers don’t lie. Over the long haul closers in save situations = 😦

While ya’ll were upping the quantity and quality of your choice of beverage to spur a rally, I downed a Saturday-noontime shot of Mekong Delta snake wine just as Schierholtz came up. I hereby dub him Nate the Snake. (yes, noontime, but only because my only task for the day is creating a new strategic marketing plan for my school and snake wine makes it a little less painful)….. Now bring it home, boys.

Paul, have you ever checked out any of the 3 trips to V.N. by Anthony Bourdain on Travel Channel?

      • paulinasia's avatar paulinasia said, on May 6, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Yes I have, Bill, Anthony Bourdain is one of my heroes, he has the perfect job. In fact, I use video of some of those segments when I teach cultural tourism classes; the students love seeing Vietnam from an international, wise-ass New Yorker’s point of view…

      • mrmrbill's avatar mrmrbill said, on May 6, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Thumbs up, Paul. It was the snake wine that prompted my question, of course. Umm… you ever morseled a Cobra heart, freshly beating?

      • paulinasia's avatar paulinasia said, on May 6, 2011 at 10:54 pm

I’ve eaten many things over here that I didn’t even know what they were, as well as some things I knew what they were but ate them anyway (such as a local specialty, the still-alive and well-formed duck embryo still in the egg), but no, the still-beating heart of cobra has so far escaped my culinary exploits… Don’t even ask me about the human embryo soup that they love so much in China…

      • mrmrbill's avatar mrmrbill said, on May 6, 2011 at 11:36 pm

Paul, the soup? That’s rough, even on a reply chain that broached the “ATM with clowns” taboo. Cultural tourism has got to be a vastly interesting subject! 🙂

Cody and Freddy win it for Willie!!! I knew that Colorado bullpen had some holes in it. Way to start the homestand.

Undertaker gets his first W. tomorrow night.

Rally in the eighth. Win it in the 9th. When was the last time these guys did that? It really was a team victory. Buster, Bat and Nate came through when needed and our .38 Special needed only 7 pitches to burn them in the top of the ninth. Also credit is due to Cain for hanging on in there one more inning than Ubaldo could. That one extra frame was the margin in the game. So even if Jiminez was essentially unhittable early, that pitch count went up and up and up and it devolved on their relief corps. Bullpen strength is this team’s one significant edge over the Rox.

Exactly right Stix . . . In fact, their closer blew one last night, giving up two moonshots.

Some of his double-switches scratch the head … Ross at this minute? But there’s a lot of stuff rolling around in the expansive “Big Head”. He can flat out manage.

Key was getting the pitches of out The Big Ugly Fuck… I remembered Edgar’s slam off Betty as soon she came in.
Closer pitches top of 9th at home in a tie game. If Dennis doesn’t understand the “why”, he can’t be helped..great game with some erstwhile goats having good ballgames…

Ever hear of Carl Jung’s law of Overloaded Coincidences? I was hanging on the Yahoo feed with Freddy up to bat. There’s movement to the right of the screen. Up comes an ad for a new cracker i’d not heard of before. I’ve never been to Georgia, but they went and called this cracker ” STIX”. Well, at that moment a nice warm feeling came over me, warmer even than that Irish Cream that went down so smoothly. There are times you just know.

Somehow, something needed to happen to pull this team outta their funk. Why not 80 candles on the cake? It’s called honoring your elders. Yahoo Sports ran a little photo special for Willie’s special day via their Flicker service. There were no comments. Added one. A tribute to Willie, the ’54 and ’10 World Champs and tonight’s winners: A Trifecta.

Off night for me in NOLA so I got to watch the game, well I did come in when we were losing 3 to zip. The team played well, if this guy couldn’t do it, that guy could. Good win, good win.
You know a lot of SF folks have been coming down for for Fest, well at least since I’ve been coming down since the 80’s (hell. the mid 80’s had Will “the Thrill Cracker” Clark shit signed stuff at most bars down here). So it’s not THAT surprising to see all the Giants hats and stuff here, even outnumber other teams. But it has been fun to hit up the Championship thing with folks wearing some gear, while here. I won’t go through the list or all the stories I’ve heard since being here, but I will say this, It’s not “basking with strangers” it has been reliving one of the greatest moments in some folks lives. Does that mean the fans don’t care about this year? Nope. It means we are the defending CHAMPS and we have all the bragging rights.
    Cheers Flappers.

Twin, you’re right on. They worked Ubaldo, and they need to do it more when they are scrapping for hits.

Watched the video of Freddie’s hit, and noticed he didn’t linger in the scrum, but seemed to make a point of heading toward the stands, perhaps to acknowledge the new ‘Fred-die, Fred-die’ chant. Outside of Tim and B-Willie, we may not have the best players at their positions, but our 25-man squad is filled with gamers.

another post that will never be read. next to my FL teams production I will be the all time out-of-time unread poster; so here it goes.
Watching the game listening to the Rockies’ announcers, seems the rocs are having a hard road trip, and the announcer bemoans:
‘ahead 3-0 and now a 9th inning lost to the hated giants

another tough no decision for Cain, magic by the Rally bourbon, baby, home crowd energy and watching Ford almost outrun Posey for home.

Your world champion San Francisco Giants, humm baby
