Breakdown in The Plan
So I think we all know “The Plan” by now. Have the pitchers pitch lights out and have 1 of our non-pitchers get a timely hit in the 7th inning on to win the game for us. It just didn’t happen last night. But despite our disgustingly impotent offense, I think we all have confidence that The Plan will get executed successfully more often than not…..
I didn’t share Kruk and Kuip’s love-fest over El Presidente’s 3rd gunned down runner of the year. He needs to do that consistently. If he’s not going to hit at all he’s got to be able to at least stop opposing runners from running wild on him. Pudge Rodriguez wouldn’t be my first choice but if he’s the only one available I will take him on the cheap since ANYONE would upgrade that position. “ABEP” is the way to look at this…….
Voggy’s turn to shut down the opposition. He’s facing “T-Wood” and this guy has been awful this year. Still, I fully expect we are going to have to scratch out a single run in the 7th inning or later to beat him. Pretty much every pitcher who goes against us is going to be lights out this year…….
The Flap Fantasy Baseball Standings
(things get crowded at the top while Irish Giant’s is the next team to feel the icy glare of Berra’s Bombers…)

Flav: Your sidebar photo of Bumgarner with the plaint beneath said it all. Several of the losses this season have been characterized by the feeling that the Giants are one bat short. We are all hoping that Panda with the battered paw will be that bat. Briefly, there was hope for Huff when he broke out in St. Louis, but something about the Bayside inn seems to have the effect of cooling off most bats. Giants are still in first, amazingly while yet to have one single hitter go on an extended tear.
Cueto was the Reds pitcher i was worried about in my comments yesterday, going into this series. All the rest sport ERAs reminding me of the ones that team’s pitchers had in the mid-late 50’s. Just check the backs of those ’57 BB cards. Still have a nice pile of them. Hoping Bumgarner’s effort last night was not the best one by far that we get in this series. If the rotation sticks to form games two, three and four should end up a lot better.
before the pen let in two late ones, this was a 1-0 game, very winnable. Cue FS line here.
Torres still has a very high OB, but his slugging is down so far, and his Ks are up. I love the guy, but the baserunning stuff, getting picked off twice and being thrown out stealing last night, looms a little larger when the team isn’t scoring. The CS last night was also the only time he got on base. Hope he can stay healthy; SF is gonna need him, big time, to get closer to that .823 OPS from last year.
Former spurs great forward Mike Mitchell died last night at 55. What a cool team SA had back in the early 80s, full of guys who could put the ball in the hoop: Iceman, Artis gilmore, gene banks and shooters off the bench like rod brewer and big man edgar jones (out of oakland). Point g johnny moore (wore “00”) was a solid player and distributor and almost died of Lyme disease/Valley fever in his 30s. Fun team to watch…80 in a half was nothing.
Agree No Whitey has to show consistency throwing runners out. The SP staff does not hold runners on well, but then how offten do runners get on, and then their attitude is “I will just get the next guy out”, that is just confidence in their abilities. The FB league, I if I sink any lower I am just going to start treating this like an on line game, right now I am at level 12, going for Ferret and Level 14!!
Torres’ numbers are down from last season, that’s a fact. But he’s still not a problem in the line up. The *problems* are Tejada, Huff and Whiteside and the fact that we don’t have a single hitter in the LU that an opposing pitcher would fear or need to pitch around…….
Another tough loss for Bumgarner last night but that’s how it goes with this club. All the starters know and accept it.
Renteria calling Uribe a big baby for crying when he got his ring is pretty funny.
As Stix noted, that picture of MadBum perfectly matches the sentiment. At least tonight we get Vogey who can swing the bat, god knows this lineup needs all the help it can get.
BF, you may want to re-check the Flap standings. It got even more crowded at the top after last night, including a big tumble by a former first-place squad.
I bet you were the kid in school who told the teacher that Johnny took his seat after the bell rang.
There’s no need to re-check the Flap standings, I know my “big tumble” was on account of my pitching stinking on ice. How much ice you ask? I borrowed a couple of bags from the Giants offense.
Hey, this is my highest total ever, I wanna enjoy it while lasts for all of 24 hours. I got Zambrano tonight vs. the Phils, so that can only mean one thing: a blown save by Marmol.
I thought Bochy told Sanchez no more bunting. These guys can’t give away outs. Esp late in a game, and esp with Tejada already in scoring position. Sanchez is the most consistent hitter on the team and he bunts? Gimme a fucking break.
And Huff is really really down now. His ABs are painful. He’s not recognizing the backfoot slider that EVERYONE knows is coming.
Lost is that Tejada had his best game..and notice also Nate’s OBP now below .300. Some moron on the Splash wanted Nate or Crawford to replace Torres in the 1.”Mentalist” is the guy-the worst kind, an idiot who thinks he’s smart..
As I’ve said-enjoy the team you have- the defense is once again excellent, better than last year now, the pitching still stellar. Bochy acknowledged that it’s longer than anticpated for the offense to pick up. It’s rough when everybody’s numbers are down. Fruckie has predictably cooled off, Nate as well. This makes the LU ashing even more hilarious- it’s truly pick ’em out of a hat now. What’s the point of keeping Pablo in Fresno any longer? He’s 3 for 6 with 6 RBI, get his ass up here. And give Hector about a week, if he’s hitting, get him, too. Waive Stewart and give Sanchez spot starts.Right now it’s bad enough to give Burrell some starts again, Nate back to his role player status.
Tejada was really stylin’ last night. He was the best player on the field.
I find most idiots think they’re smart. I believe this comes from having the skill to do one thing really well. But only one thing.
…like changing a tire
Early to be blasting Nipper isn’t it? I don’t even see that she’s made the daily drive by.
LQTM
Bummie takes over for Matt Cain as the hard luck starter who gets no run support.
2.4 runs per game . . . 1.3 in his last 6.
Ouch.
“Lost is that Tejada had his best game?” That’s like saying, “at least Mussolini could get the trains to run on time. “
Crazy thing is Timmy, Maddie, and Nasty are all in the top 20 ERA at:
T-2.85
M-3.23
N-3.51
Their W/L records?
T-5-4
M-2-8
N-4-4
Chuckles, late in the game is the time you go with the sacrifce. It’s early that Bochy doesn’t like it it. And this may be tough to take in, but Huff is “hotter” than Fruckie right now..and I think they almost have to give Burrell some starts again.
Fuck the book. Sanchez is hitting well. No reason to take the bat out of his hands. No reason to give away an out.
No, he’s not. As I patiently pointed out, he’s predictably cooled off. .222 last ten games.
You don’t post as “Mentalist” on the Splash, do you?
BLEEP the book!
The disrespected Ross has actually been their best producer. Probably the best LU against most pitchers would be
Torres/Fruckie/Panda/Ross/Huff/ Nate or Burrell/Crawford/Pitcher/Whiteside
Going with the T LaRussa line up Pitcher bats 8th, interesting
I was joking, sorta.
One correction: I see that Bochy did not call the sac bunt from Fruckie. He did it on his own, For better or worse, it’s all on the Frucker.
Sanchez is bunt happy. He needs to swing the bat.
re: “Pudge Rodriguez wouldn’t be my first choice but if he’s the only one available I will take him on the cheap since ANYONE would upgrade that position.”
Bob Geren was a catcher. I think he’s even currently available.
I’ve been in San Diego for a few days. Saw the Pads/Nats game last night, along with not that many others at Petco. $20 scalped ticket 8 rows behind the 3rd base dugout — $71 face value season tix seat. Virtually no buzz there, nice park, but kind of weird construction. Too many angles and jagged looks for me. The left field warehouse wall thing is kinda cool, looking back to the plate from that area made me realize that Burrell’s HR up there last year was a titanic shot. Anyway, Pudge looked serviceable in person. He had a passed ball on a pitch that wasn’t that tough. His arm looks pretty good, he looks in very good shape. I doubt he’d hit more than .220 with consistent ABs. Would he be an upgrade on El Presidente? Sure, but not huge…
.220 compared to .170 is huge, IMO.
And Whitey has been a near disater defensively…
Reportedly the Nats have a “high asking price” for Pudge. Wonder what that means.
It means wait til the deadline when they have faded.
I don’t know how long the Giants can wait. The Giants did the honorable thing. They gave Whitey his chance to be the starter, and have been very supportive of him. Cain and Bochy heaped a lot of praise on Whitey the other day. Now it’s time to get an alternative.
Maaaaaybe it was an honorable thing but it’s not like they had a lot of immediate choices
This could be interesting. 250 pounds of Sarah Palin emails are being released. Not 250 emails. 250 POUNDS of emails.
Who typed them for her?
Soph did
How do you weigh an email?
Those are E-Mails she’s received from Dennis..
Laugh now. But when she’s giving her acceptance speech in 2012 and you see a guy wearing a Seattle Slew ball cap standing behind the dais, we’ll see who’s laughing then.
There is No way in Hell that she wins.
ho ho ho
Make that a ball gag and you could be on to something Dennis.
“Should I wake up the gimp?”
The only acceptance speech she’ll be making is the one for Idiot of the Year (her 3rd such award) . . .
Good old paul Revere warning the British not to take our weapons with his bells and whistles .
Really. *Everyone* knows he used a vuvuzela
Hey, I think I got you guys beat on lunch today. Kinders’ Special of the Day was a filet mignon (extra rare) sandwich on their freshly baked homemade French bread. Potato salad and Kinders’ special BBQ beans to go along. If only they had a liquor license…
I had pancakes and chased them down with the champagne of beers
I spoze I could Google it but..what’s Kinders?
It is a restaraunt, has a few in CA. also sells BB’Q sauces. I think I have seen the brand in Grocery stores, never been to a restaraunt though
Thanks, Kevin. Yeah, I broke down and Googled it. Thye seem to be in places like Fremont, Tracy, Chico, Concord…I don’t often get around to them parts
Thye? Suddenly I’m a Quaker?
Ted on the wrong-side-of-the-tracks tour
places like Fremont, Tracy, Chico, Concord…
I noticed he judicially left Sacramento and San Ramon out of the list.
no liquor? sniff….
Have any of you seen an actual 2010 WS ring? One of my kid’s teachers brought her husband’s ring to a ceremony at school today to let my boy hold the ring and take pictures of it. I hope to hell I had the droid camera working right. Unbelievably cool of the teacher.
In what capacity is the teacher’s husband with the Giants organization?
He’s not a player. She showed up on tv among the Giants fans they flew to Texas for the WS.
Real class, this one…..
That was just plain rude!! someone should have Bitch slapped her!!
That’s unconscionable. I seriously hope to see that bitch in hell so I steal her ball back and give it to that little girl.
A bitch stole a foul ball from me once…once!
ESPN has an article on the top FA of next year. should the giants be interested in any of these guys??
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings110610
Burriss SS, Tejada 3B, Sanchez, 2B, Ross RF, Burrell LF, Huff 1B, Rowand CF, Stewart C, Vogelsong P
Bochy is sitting Gomez because he’s facing a lefty? Grab the mop from Chuck and continue with the latrine duty in Room B.
Gomez is 2 fer 3 vs Wood with 2 RBI. “Mumble, grumble-mumble, gotta get Row his at-bats…”
Kevin, who gives a shit about who or whom not the Giants will or will not be interested in NEXT year. I, like the Giants, have focused all of our intentions on how to beat Travis Wood and the Reds tonight.
Wood was an original member of my fantasy team. So when Travis toss’s a 3-hit shutout, you’ll know who to blame.
Not happening!!
Secretariat ran the first half (6 furlongs) of the Belmont in 1:09 and 4/5. Given the fact that Big Red won by 31 lengths should be an after thought. No horse in their right mind should be allowed to run the first 1/2 of the grueling 1 1/2 miles Belmont Stakes in under 1:10 flat. He did, and he kept on running…

Daily Racing Form comment on that race in the PP line: Ridden out
Hey, Loo. What’s the forecast for Elmont, NY on Belmont Day? I keep hearing the threat of rain. 60% this, 60& that… I got a couple of runners who’d prefer to run on the hard sod. What say you, Pete Giddings?
This LU is basically what you get if you don’t like the “regular” one.
I would like to see a little more of Stewart. Just to see what he brings.
Stewart sucks as bad as whitey. At least rowand isn’t in the lead off spot but seriously, all these LU’s are essentially the same without posey and panda- zero go-to guys but a LU chock full of guys who could conceivably be The One to get that winning hit in the 7th or later….
Defensively as well?
Looks like the brass is looking into the possibility of Pablo catching again when he returns…
This must come from the same great minds who think bringing back A*** S***** is the best thing since sliced bread.
What the fuck is so great about sliced bread anyway?
Uh…cause you don’t have to slice it yourself?
seems to have caught on
Here’s the useless forecast, Dennis: http://tinyurl.com/4y534hs
I don’t think you should concern yourself with it too much.
Near brawl at Yankee Stadium. Girardi almost fought Acta. Anyone ever see managers fight each other?
Dusty and LaRussa were close a few times . . .
“Let’s put Pablo at C so we can justify keeping our worthless POS Tejada at third base.”
Don’t insult my intelligence.
Tejada’s a better bat than Whitey.
Say what?
But NOBODY fucked with Frank Robinson . . .
NOBODY BLEEPED Frank!
I remember watching a game once where Jim Barr started to leave the mound before Frank had completely arrived. Frank grabbed his ass and yanked him back on the mound until he was done talking to him.
(He didn’t actually grab his ass, but you get the idea) I think it was more of a square dance -type hooking of his elbow.
Watching the Dbacks lose to FLA on one screen cubbies/phils on the other.
Unfortunately I cannot get the Rocks v Doejairs came on, but then only Blade could get a hard-on for that game.
or DMD
pffttt
Actually, Pablo was the Gs catcher of the future until Posey came along and they moved him to third. So it is not a far fetched idea, but one that dog won’t hunt.
AZ just scored 4 runs in the seventh to make it 5-4 fish
Anibal did have a nice little 5-0, 8K, 2-hitter going into that inning.
TOUGH BREAK, made the AZs look like murder’s row there.
If you look up ’empty stadium’ on wikipedia there is a picture of the new and nice Miami Ballpark
Magnus, yeah that’s The Plan all right. If we can have a Room B, we can have a Plan B. And I’m hungry for it.
Zambrano just gave up a granny in the 7th on his 128th and last pitch. 9.00+ era as he didn’t finish the inning
hey, Pawlie, how ya doin my man?
I’m a bit of all right, mate.
OPPs, my bad fish are still in the old Joe Robbie. I can see the pr stories now: the new park will really bring the fans out.
Edd I just sent you a blockbuster trade. Pull the trigger and watch 12 onlooking minds get blown collectively.
A.L Beasts of the East, BoSox and Yanks look to be locked in a MonsterTruck duel this year. Both teams are hurtin for mound help, particularly the Yanks, after losing Joba. They are probably already sniffing around the teams which are pretty much out of the race, scoping out who they might scarf up on the cheap, dangling so-so prospects in front of the outfits which make money but don’t care so much about fielding a winner.
Take a look at these stats for the pitching staff of the Richmond Flying Squirrels and see if they give you any ideas:
Starting with relievers:
-Osiris Matos: 2.42 ERA; 31 hits in 36.1 innings; FIVE walks; 27 K’s; O.99 WHIP and ML experienced.
-Dan Otero: 1.54 ERA; 32 hits in 35 innings; THREE walks; 37 K’s; 1.00 WHIP.
-Ronnie Ray: 0.95 ERA; 20 hits in 28.1 innings; Five walks to 29 K’s; ZER0.88 WHIP.
-David Quinowski: 2.10 ERA; 18 hits in 25.2 IP; Three walks to 17 K’s; 0.82 WHIP.
That’s a composite of 16 walks to 110 strikeouts. The composite WHIP is under One. Zero. Couple more relievers with good records, but these guys stand out as quite a stockpile in SF’s AA team.
Starters doing well:
-Eric Surkamp: 1.92 ERA; 58 hits in 66.2 I.P. and a WHIP of 1.28.
-Ryan Verdugo: 2.93 ERA; 52 hits in 61 I.P., with a WHIP of 1.23. Last week’s E.L. Pitcher of the week.
Two possible scenarios here: Giants give up a M.L proven reliever or maybe even two, just possibly a starter from the current roster OR dangle some of these names and stats IF either of those hitting rich teams has someone who would boost our L.U. Hard to tell whether Cleveland is a contender or pretender, but that’s another team which could use pitching help and seems to have a good accumulation of wood.
Snakes lose. Hope we can make up a full game tonight. Let’s see … some hitting wouldn’t hurt. Hitting, too. And of course, a little hitting could actually affect the outcome of this game.
Only Surkamp, Verdugo, and a guy not listed ( Jason Stoffel) are considered prospects.
Streamers — Kostaz is back (new alias), new and improved stream quality: http://www.justin.tv/islander_dude
THANKS, “Mr.” I just want to the typical stream and they said it was blocked. I get blocked too, but adding fruit to my diet helps. And it new and *imporved* too, eh? Thanks again for the link.
I just read the great story on Voggy in The Chron. Can’t beat his script. Well, yes you can. Top it with a WS win. Watching Voggy pitch is a delight. He is businesslike and unFlappable. I guess he figures, “How bad can it ever get professionally? I’ve seen that, stared at it, and went beyond it.” Go, Voggy.
geeez, how many phaetons [sp] can you wear?
Randy Johnson
George Foster
Edgar
Joe Morgan?
Props for Song getting out of that one.
Crap.
Not another one.
8 weeks if he’s lucky…
Red announcers think it’s right shoulder and/or left wrist….
That started out as another chance for Freddy to make a brilliant play, but it ended with his poor right shoulder taking the fall. Jeezus.
Miggie has begun crawling out of his hole and going for the Daily Doubles. Stewart must have shocked em with that bunt. Vogie sure helped his own cause.
I can’t believe a battery of Stewart and Song are holding the Red machine to 2 runs. A pitch that could have been a strike 3 and a ball that could have been a double play or we would have the lead.
The ‘ole 5-6-4.
Intentionally walk Rowand?
That’s like intentionally walking me
Weird
I know. 2 outs
Just kidding
Reds hitters worked V. to a high pitch count of 115, while befuddled and frustrated Giants have only worked Wood to 79. Now its up to the BP + who will do the hitting.
It’s been a while
But
Affeldt? Sheesh
Affeldt looks to be back to ’09 form right now. Nice quick work mowing down the meat of the Reds order. Now for some stickwork on Wood. We are not talking the reincarnative amalgamation of Cy Young, Christy Mathewson and Grover Cleveland Alexander here.
Then again he’s not facing Mays, McCovey, and Cepeda…
Or fucking Babe Ruth or Hammering Hank….
Point?
He did a nice job
Sorry, Loo. But that was trivial bullshit. Which is okay if it’s funny.
It wasn’t
Votto, Bruce, Rolen…yeah, career garbage
Tejada’s gone from DFA to MVP in 24 hours…
Fuck Suburu
Romo the Razor shaved em down to the skin in the 8th.
Now I’m in that weird zone
Seeya. Enraption time.G’nite
Nate!
Thx Nate.
Wilson has as many wins as our leading SP. Does that mean we’re walking a tightrope?
To quote Lincecum:
“FUCK YEAH!!!”
Twin’s right. This dude’s BETTER when he don’t start
Gamer motherfucker
Sanchez (never liked the fruckie non-de-plume) is fucked again.
Fuck
Good win
Later, Daleks…Goodnight
