A Great Game on Many Different Levels
Yes, I did stay up till the end. I have a friend in town and he would have called me a huge pussy if I had gone to bed before that one ended. I would argue that was one of Kuip’s worst home run calls ever. Not sure if he was watching that one on tv when he called it but he didn’t really get into it till it clanged into the stands…….
What a great game for Torres. Of course he had the hits but his catch (can’t remember the inning) was fantastic—every bit as good as the overrated Willie Mays catch. It was a game that perfectly gave 2 middle fingers to Chad Qualls and his gay bounced ball……..
Panda’s game tying hit was one of the sweetest swings on a tough pitch that I’ve ever seen. Not that it matters much who is hitting clean up but I don’t understand why it’s Huff and not The Panda. Huff has absolutely nailed down and patented the 3 hopper to 1st or 2nd base–not sure why that qualifies him to bat clean up…….
I gave Panda POTG for 2 reasons: 1) there is no extra innings without him and 2) it was an impossible pitch that he hammered. The bullpen did a great job but striking out a bunch of Padres is what everyone does. NOT everyone can hit that Adams pitch the way Panda did…….
Huh? No.
so you saw the Hall thing? I’m getting taken to a commercial like every 15 minutes during the game.
Between innings?
no, it’s mid game and they are cutting to 2 commercials. It’s happened 3 times tonight already. COmcast–Los Altos Hills. No one else is seeing this?
tough way for Hall’s career to end. And I didn’t see it because of Comcast’s new “random commercials”
Hate to see anyone get hurt, but Hall looks godawful in every facet of the game. Hard to believe he’s just 31.
The Brockabella???? Flav, ya got to give Pawlie POTD consideration for that one.
It is the Pads, but nice jib by Bubbles there . . .
Uh, nice pitching as well . . .
That’s the end of Hall’s stint as a Giant.
He should take Burrell with him…
I wonder if Zito & Panda are super motivated after the team won it all with minimal help from them…
intriguing notion
I’m only following the game via digital notes, if you will, but it sure looks like Zito showed some backbone; a tip of my cap
wot happened to Hall; I was taking a leak, and ESPN scores doesn’t tell me anyway and I’m not following Twitter cuz I’m here and…
He was spiked at 2nd…
Hall got spiked on a steal attempt.
well, that was what fueled my post earlier. The other guys have a ring and they earned it. Zito and Panda got one but it could have just as easily been given to you and me. Then there is Tejada who doesn’t have one. There’s something to be said for having these guys playing……..
Has anyone else followed Zito’s ditch of the slider? I heard his boyfriend say that on the pre-game show tonight and I hadn’t heard that before. He’s still got no velocity. Was ditching the slider all it took? This is insane……..
I read that a couple of weeks ago. Theory is it keeps the same arm slot the same for all the other pitches. Whatever works.
“Minimal help” is exaggerating Zito’s role in the WS. But what do i know, i.e., he could have been driving the team bus to and from the hotel to help out.
Panda ! ! !
you guys are killing me…I gotta break down and buy MLB or be more creative in finding free streams (which is why I take Uroxatrol hahahahaha)
By I P Freely . . .
yeah, Kostaz went of vaca, apparently. No, I haven’t had any better success at finding any. But I did buy MLB last year and here’s exactly how many real-time G’s games you get, whether home or away: 0
MrMr: 0 games??? why? Because your in the Bay Area? Surely not true back East?? Yikes.
Excuse me: “you’re”
2010 Pablo v 2011 Sandoval is never more evident than in his defense this year. No way he even gloves that ball last year.
I still want to know who was responsible for letting Pablo get so fat last year. A guy making 100 mil, I get it, he does what he wants. But Pablo was making nothing and eating everything. It makes no sense that he was THAT out of shape last year……..
boom, some 9-1-1 commercial just hit my screen
Wow, that was a pitcher’s call.
That batter got “Glavined.”
18 home runs have been hit at ATT? That’s crazy. There’s no better steroid stat than that one. We’re half way through the year………
That was a good home stand for BLB . . .
“New Ace” Zito thru 5: 3H 0ER 0BB 3K 70P … ubetcha!
So I will be negative for a minute: the Cubs suck and swung at everything he threw up there. Then he had the weird ass 3 hour rain delay. Then he gets to pitch to the fuckin’ Padres who can’t hit shit. I declare Zito to be NOT back. This is just a random 3 game fantasy stretch for him………
I’d trade ’em right this very second while his “value” is at an all-time high…
As I recall, you also had him getting lit up in A ball 🙂
don’t forget they scored 21 runs for him in 2 games either.
Lou Brock and his rain gear [some question as to whether he invented or merely popularized]:
http://bit.ly/qDaZU7
You takes what you gets . . .
Especially with Bubbles.
Wow, Bubbles hunoed it up to 86 . . .
That’s got to look like a beach ball coming that slow . . .
Yikes. It’s getting dark in here. Hunoed? Humped.
It’s the same Padre team that Timmy, Matt, and Bum all looked cruddy against.
Who knows ~ maybe head offices in Boston and New York are drooling over Zito through six tonight. Anyone spose Sabean will play hard to get?
Only if they’ll take a bunch of the contract.
As in $50.00?
Oh dear. Interviewing pregnant women for the contest. So, how drunk were you when you got pregnant? Did you know the guy?
That might be the worst contest in baseball history. That’s a marketing dept. totally jumping the shark.
I used to do a lot of work with unwed mothers… just helping them get their start.
I’m still amazed that Brock’s wife allowed him to leave the house wearing the “Brockabella.”
Alright- no jokes about Burrell “taking advantage of a hole.”
dude, if it wasn’t for your wife, this would be post of the day. *grin*
Ha!
finally vindicated, I am not going crazy, direct tv is fucked up………
It’a always fucked up.
Huff just looks awful up there. Watch the strikes and swing at the pitch in the dirt.
So Barry Zito is making me happy Dirrrty is on the shelf. Next up: I’m strangely drawn to fat chicks and a moheeto (no idea how to spell it)…….
Mojito?
Do buck teeth do anything for ya?
no flav, you’re attracted to deathly white zombie chicks, with or without adult beverage. I think i’ve commented on this before.
Grease somebody up . . .
Bob Costas was on the radio and he called it Frisco, Herb Caen is rolling over in his grave!!
Ugh, Costas is kinda smug.
Don’t you want to just muss up his hair or give him a noogie?
And the worst dye job this side of Wayne Newton…
I was in the car when Costas came on. He was good. Fleming invited him to do some play by play and Costas went wild. Very good work. Fleming seemed a bit stunned. (htf do I follow THAT?)
Damn that Tejada hustles!
i heard that. appalling.
That guy hit that ball where the steroid guys used to hit them.
Man, that little toe point thing Zito does has always bugged me . . .
Everything about Zito is kind of prissy. The high striped socks, the tight pants, all the mannerisms on the mound.
Whaddayaknow. 7 solid for Bubbles.
Sad story in the Texas game. A fan fell over a railing trying to catch a ball Hamilton tossed in the crowd. The fan DIED. Very tragic.
Holy shit. And on top of the tragedy, imagine how Hamilton feels.
Neshek is hilarious. Talk about not trusting your stuff. He devises a wind up that is borderline absurd. We used to diddle around with that shit in little league games when we up by 10 runs…….
dumb to send Zito back out there. I know the pen went deep last night but this dude does not go 8. This is a bad idea, take what you get and be happy. And with that, direct tv just sent me into a tv car commercial……..
the pen can cobble together 2 innings or work tonight. Zito starting the 8th is a bad idea in a 2-1 game……..
That’s not Bochy’s way. He likes to show his players he believes in them.
They still may pull him. They didn’t want to waste a hitter with Bubbles expecting to execute the bunt.
On second thought.
*expected*
That hit made them nervous
Zito actually looks like something tonight. How long have we waited for a game like this from him? 4 1/2 years?
He has had games like this and then he reverts, he pitched very little in April and May, and almost not at all in June, he should be good right up to the playoffs. Then bazinga, right back to form.
Surprisingly, he threw 2, 8 inning shutouts last yr.
Ah, I’d forgotten that.
Zito had a brilliant month full of starts in 2009 and in 2010, and then he declined in the next months. And then he was horrible. Let’s hope the AS break gives him a boost this year. We may see a game or two like this in August! (Then he will decline . . . .)
Now do they trott him out there for the 9th??
Let’s not get crazy.
Yep. Right after A*** S**** wins the MVP of the Super Bowl.
You are killing me Dennis! And won’t you feel foolish when he does.
Why isn’t Crawford in for Defense?
zito also had an ump that gave the outside “glavine” strikes. Rueter used to win a lot of games when he had an ump like that. Pads swung at a lot of junk too.
I am sitting in a hotel room somewhere off the I-95 that snakes just north of Richmond, Virginia. Outside, the weather is just this side of a devilish, Venusian-like heat and humidity. The fuckin’ Cicadas aren’t chriping, their busy flapping a mini-fan in each of their little legs trying to cool off. I don’t even know where the hell this place is. It got late, the Snarkettes were exhausted, we busted on into a cheap hotel to crash where the Exit sign said “lodging”. They are asleep, madam Snark is taking a shower to cool off, and I’m sitting here sucking on a luke warm Yuengling i carried down from Pennsylvania in front of the jangling AC vent watching Giants gameday. Can it possibly be true the Zitoid just pitched 8 frames giving up just one for the win? No, it cannot be so. The misery index here must have addled my consciousness. Tomorrow, maybe I can see the Flyin Squirrels. Meanwhile, where’s the damn ice machine?….
Haven’t been on much lately, but look it up from earlier in the year and you will see someone say Zito was the best 5th starter in all of baseball last year…
The problem is he wasn’t the #5 starter.
Well, for half a year. That 2-10 4.70 finish kinda wrecks the theory. With Zits it’s always “wait for it”..
and it will come.
He can never be POTG, even if it means Whitey is..
Weak. Where were you to start the season? They warehoused this guy and he’s had 3 dream starts off the warehouse move. Ficking Carlos silva did that to end a season (2008?) and he got a 50 million dollar deal. Zito sucks, we’ll discuss it tomorrow. I’m out tonight
I hate when Kruk sings the praises of Zito, like he is the Giants savior or something
return of the bromance. disgusting and unwatchable.
Get over it.
Who’s Will?
I used to see Will Durant books the shelves of a certain type of student, back in the late 60s.
Kruk’s fascination with Zito is weird. Kruk was a SoCal working class kid (mother was a nurse, worked swing shift, big baseball fan, however) with no father figure teaching him how to pitch. (I once heard Kruk talk about opening day: His mother would wake him early, cook breakfast, and let him cut school so they could . . . no, not go to the game, but sit down in front of the tv and watch it.) Zito’s parents weren’t rich, but his father devoted himself to developing the kid’s basebal career. Zito now makes more money in a year than Kruk made in his entire playing career. Yet — when he was a Giant, wasn’t Kruk throwing stuff pretty similar to Zito’s?
No.
Oh. He had a FB over 90 mph? (No. He didn’t.) Didn’t rely on off speed and breaking stuff to set up the FB? (Yes, he did.) Fucking dimwit.
Krokow had a much better fastball (who doesn’t?) and didn’t have a curve nearly as good as Bubbles.
More Reuter than Bubbles.
Why ask the question if you think you know the answer?
Typical fuckwadian shit, skippy.
Zito throws his curve ALL THE TIME. Krukow never had a curve like Zito’s and didn’t throw it 60% of the time lik Zito did.
Your own fascination with what you write is more the issue here, pal.
It’s a rhetorical question, dickhead, peabrain, pissant. That’s why you “ask” it. The point is Krukow’s psychology. It’s an inquiry, an invitation to discuss — intelligently — you worthless dumbfuck.
Your inability to think or to write is the issue from my perspective. If you don’t like what I write, don’t read it. Is that too difficult for you to comprehend?
BTW, what the fuck is the point of that cute little story? Krukow should be resentful of Zito’s contract?
Where did Kruk’s mom work? Swing shift? Really? Sounds like a Bon Jovi song.
Like I said, your fascination with yourself is epic.
You need to deratchet yourself a few notches there, skippy. Yer a little wound up.
Heh heh. What, are you 12? Nice comeback there . . .
No, actually your shit is pretty amusing. I enjoy getting a good laugh from it.
I can’t help it if you don’t understand “little stories,” asswipe.
Chuck and family go to a game and the camera zooms in on them. Kruk: “Nice family. Gamers.” Kuip: “The ladies of the family know how to enjoy a game.” Kruk: “Uh, oh. Dad, not so much.” Kuip: “He must’ve inherited money.” Kruk: “You called, it Smooth.” Cut back to the field.
Inherited money? Right, skippy. That would be you projecting. That’s why Krokow’s story resonates so stiongly with you. You got life on a silver platter.
I bet you love Bon Jovi. Living on a prayer baby, with a silver spoon in yer mouth.
Zito, Whitey and the Drama Queen. You can’t make this shit up. 24 hours ago i had serious concerns about SD sweeping the Giants, what with Bumgarner giving up 5 big ones and Zito due to pitch tonight. Now, it’s kiss your sister for this 4-gamer. Some of us were hoping for 3-1, but after Timmy and Matt going down and then the Undertaker getting all loosy-goosy on us things were looking dire. Tonight’s win is the Big #50 and except for apparently rubber-armed Wilson’s work, Zito’s performance included a nice stretch of bullpen relief.
I don’t care what his name, his reputation, or his baseball history ~ any starter going a strong eight in this day and age has had a productive game. Kudos to Zito.
So the Mets come to Bayville facing a team that has at least begun to even things out against the Pests of the West, a squad that had been on a nice long winning run for the last couple weeks. NY pitchers facing the Giants are not exactly an intimidating bunch of starters. They will get counterpointed by Vogelsong with Timmy n’ the Horse. I like our chances, both for winning the series and for going into the Break as the best in the West.
I predict a stixwiz re-cap by 9:56PM…
Fuck!!!
Missed it by 23 hours and 50 minutes . . .
I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you…that now makes 41 consecutive home games where the Giants have failed to score at least 7 or more runs. I can rest easy now. Nite all.
How’s the futilitarian fever doing?
There was one point, maybe the 7th or 8th, where I, like many of you, was worrying about Barry. And the camera pans over to Boche, and he’s blowing a bubble with a twinkle in his eye. Shit, one run game? he was ENJOYING himself. That dude has worked some real magic with this team.
it’s got to hurt the zito, let’s be polite, less-than-fans. I’ve been making a point to try and watch his starts since i returned to the bay area (2007). The guy can actually pitch. i know, i’ll get reamed for this (hi tf) but it’s true. I will NOT get into the money aspect. that’s really not relevant. so, great job giants, great job bz.
good night all.
This website has the video from the A’s broadcast of the guy falling in the A’s/Rangers game. Fosse has a few laughs. No doubt Fosse feels like a schmuck now.

Note to Snarkk – If you like BBQ Buz and Ned’s is just blocks from the FS ballpark. brisket was tender with a good smoke taste. The ribs were good but after they smoke em they throw them on the grill while mopping the sauce on, which is OK just a little different.
My wife and I had a nice dinner at Bistro Bobette in the Shockoe slip area, everything we ordered was off the specials menu so I can’t vouch for the regular menu but it was good and they had a nice wine selection (it was a bit pricey for Richmond standards).
For pub grub we thought the Capital Ale house was pretty good. The bar has an ice strip that runs down the middle of it for setting your beer or cocktail on.,
