Clinging Tightly to What I Know to be True: Zito Sucks
While I am of course happy the Giants won last night I’m not going to starting singing Zito’s praises. He deserves some credit for pitching 3 good games in a row. But I am sticking to the facts: the first one was against the Cubs who swung at everything he threw up there, the next game was that weird rain delay game, and last night he handled the Padres, a team that might have a worse offense than we do. So I am not a believer of any of this. He still sucks.
I will give him credit for pitching in the strike zone better than I’ve ever seen him do it. There’s nothing more infuriating than watching Zito pitch and be deathly afraid of contact….
While I’m happy he’s not imploding, I will never trust him before one of his starts. I might be the last one shaking my head *no* but I will never believe in Barry Zito. Call it *hating* or whatever, but I just don’t believe in any of this right now…….
Man, they can show Rent’s HR over and over again, and I’m OK with that.
Ha! Tejada….in my face!
Good game Song, we’ll take it from here.
Darling said Timmy (Lincecum) put on a show today in BP. Hit 6 balls into the RF arcade. First ML homer tomorrow?
OK, OK. Do I have to wear any weird robes and stuff for this Cult thing? Can I keep my worldly goods?
—————————————————————————————————————————–
twin, I’m thinking you should wear George Zucco’s getup from VOODOO MAN. With Lugosi frowning and Carradine playing the bongos behind ya
wow, I am blown away right now. They just played the Michael’s call of Haliki’s no-no. My first game ever. And I know that many of you have been at that game. To hear that, my heart just about exploded……….
That sounds painful
Them tricky Clowns.
Wow, only 24,000 at the Halicki no-hitter. That was a doubleheader!
And 17,000 left before the 2nd game
I’m serious, I’m sitting here regaling myself with announcing stories from my childhood, and they play a moment from the first game I ever went to? That’s insane.
oooooooooooooooWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee woooooooooooo
Too trippy
Technically, it was the second game you had been to. (grin)
I was there that day. I had been to two other Giants games before that, I think. I saw them play the Reds, and I can’t remember who the other game was.
Nice way to end the guest spot, with the nice words about Willie Mays and the statue.
In the future..try not to use “nice” twice in the same sentence
😉
Don’t worry, I’m the fucking antidote.
ok, that’s over. I can go back to reading Pawlie’s text messages from the intriguing things he notices at the mall 🙂
Sorry guys, I am not going to debate this because there is no universal answer, but I just fucking LOVED the Al Michael’s/Bob Costas Show. It was really a classic if you think about it, they’ll never call a game together again (in fact, I think that’s the first time they’ve ever worked together)……
if you think about it, they’ll never call a game together again
—————————————————————————————-
Oh. I’ll be sure of that, Mr. Bond. I’ll be sure of that.
They should do some more games together. Michaels might not have any football to do this season.
I remember more than 24K at the Haliki no-no but I was just a regular sized *flavor* at the time, I musta been over whelmed by the size of the fans 🙂
My memory was that the crowd was bigger, but….we were sitting near the back row of the lower level, so I don’t really know about the upperdeck that day.
Wow…I was at this game, too. The 2nd game of a double header and we were seated down the first base line. My sister started to read “The Exorcist” during the game, and she kept reading for good luck. I remember Alou hitting something like 24000 foul balls in the 9th inning until Halicki got him out. Nerve wracking, but it the crowd was in the 24k range.
Christ, is this guy in a fuckin’ rut….
Zumie==== I still can’t remember if it was the 1st or 2nd game and get this: my dad doesn’t remember either. There is actually a possible theory going around in our family that we were at both games with neither of us remembering the *2nd* game. It’s a very *Kennedy 2nd shooter* thing, and none of us understand the beginning or the end of it. 🙂 GRIN!
Dude! I’ve said it several times! (grin) The no-hitter was the second game. In the first game, the Mets routed the Giants. Kingman hit 2 HRs, one of them a grandslam.
I was not at that game. My dad thinks we went to both of them but I woulda remembered a 2 bomb game from Kingman. But who knows? My dad hammered down a 12 pack in the parking lot while I was busy playing with matches so anything could have gone down that day. Huge….wait for it………GRIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The grandslam was between the two flag poles out in centerfield. It was a thing of terrible beauty!
we were sitting 3rd base side, pretty deep back on the first level.
That’s where we were, too. Thirdbase side. With one of those pillars blocking part of our view, probably.
yes, there were pillars around. Lots of shade. Dude, you and I watched my first baseball game together maybe 50-100 feet from each other. Maybe the same row or right next to each other. That’s what I mean by appreciating the moments of our lives (insert an idiotic joke from Loo). …..Wilson’s pitch was fucking horrendous……..
Maybe you guys took a leak side by side. Think!!!
oh come on Loo, appreciate the passing moments in your life. Those are the moments that make up your life. 🙂
Who had his foot in the other stall?
Senator? Excuse me, Senator?
Playing the Halicki audio was awesome—I was thinking of you guys. My uncle who passed away years ago was at that game. The Montefusco no-hitter I listened to in the backyard in Woodland and even taped the last few outs of it on my dad’s old school tape recorder he used for work. I stll hold out hope that I’ll come across that tape someday.
Two great announcers—2 huge egos in my book that sometimes get in the way of me enjoying their broadcasting over the years. Tonight was great though. Michaels take about how the fortunes have switched between us and LA gave me goosebumps.
I’ve shared this before, but if you didn’t catch it: we listened to the Montefusco no-no on the radio while we had dinner at home. It was quiet (which was actually a weird sign of what was about to come). After dinner, my mom took me out to the back yard and told me they were getting a divorce. She whisked that bomb away by watching *The Love Boat* with me that night. I know, none of this makes any sense but all the details make up my life. 🙂
Ugh. What a moment for you :< I have better memories of that Montefusco no-hitter. Between that and Halicki's gem, it made for a great non-WS season.
That fucker again!
From the Giants website:
“Only three times did Giants fans watch the home team’s pitcher throw a no-hitter at Candlestick Park. After two in the ’60s, the third — and most recent — home no-hitter was spun by Ed Halicki in 1975.
On Aug. 24, the Giants squared off against the New York Mets in a doubleheader. After the Mets nabbed the opener by the score of 9-5 on the strength of a Dave Kingman grand slam off “Gentleman” Jim Barr, Halicki took the mound for Game 2 of the twin bill.
Willie Montanez, obtained earlier in the season from the Phillies for Garry Maddox, got the Giants on the board in the first inning with a two-run single. It would be all the 6-foot-7 Halicki would need.
In his first full season in the Majors, the right-hander dominated the New Yorkers in front of 24,132 fans, striking out 10 on his way to the 6-0 victory. It was the first no-hitter thrown in the National League in over two years.
Halicki ended the ’75 season with a 9-13 record and a 3.49 ERA. He pitched in 24 games, striking out 153 batters. His no-hitter stood out in an otherwise ordinary season, in which the Giants finished at 80-81, 27 1/2 games out of first place, good for third in the NL West.”
oh come on Loo, appreciate the passing moments in your life. Those are the moments that make up your life.

I’m sure Loo remembered that time he passed a kidney stone.
And by the way….fuck
Wilson gives up a homer in a NON-save situation. What a shocker.
You guys can need not bother to retort. Fuck you.
Is this the same Hairston that’s been tormenting us for years?
Dennis should be typing his rant about closers in non saves about now
There could never be a save situation for the Giants once the game went to the ninth tied…
They might be giants
I thought something kind of odd happened in that Rockies/Braves series. The Rockies lost all 4 games, and never used their closer Huston Street. In other words, in the course of losing 4 straight games to the Braves, the Rockies couldn’t find a reason to use their BEST reliever. That’s just too much “role of the closer” mentality there.
For those about to rock…we salute you
Wilson doesn’t fuckng need 4 pitches, it’s fucking with his velocity. His FB never topped 94 tonight.
He could actually learn something from Heath Bell. Bell was just going right after the Giants. Wilson gets into this thing of dinking around the corners, ending up with a lot 3-2 counts.
totally agree Zumie, but Wilson ends up getting the results, his big picture stuff is secondary. But you are dead on, he does’t go after hitters the way Bell does…….
Bochy made a statement, too, by taking Wilson out that quickly. He’s not feeling super-confident in Wilson at the moment.
Say. Who’s this pitcher? He’s looking pretty good
. Damn those Mets…….sniff…..
Shut the fuck up. No soph bullshit here!! Parody or not!! This ain’t the fucking Splash!!
Don’t be an asshole!!
Modern science and medicine are astounding. Thet already know the winners of the World Series baby contest
Robert and Beth Hairston of Daly City…
We got any beverage service appliances left … feeling like picking up a bat, myself.
I’m going to be at tomorrow’s game. Upper level, behind homeplate, near the back. I’m not pleased that the Giants changed that to a night game. That was a day game when I bought the tickets.
I will give you $20 for your socks. I’m not joking.
Still first place
Fuck it
Let there be Rock
If you want blood—you’ve got it!
have A Drink On Me
Whiskey, Gin, and Brandy—with a glass I’m pretty handy. (Ok, I’m stopping)
Time to put Lou Seal back in the line up.
Beltran looks like he still has a little life in that body. What’s it gonna cost? I said I’d trade Dirrrty for Reyes, but not for Beltran. I dunno. Runzler, Burriss and a ham sammich sound about right…
Good Luck
You’ve never had one of my ham sammichs. Believe you me, the Mets are getting plenty.
In other news, missed-punch-brawl between O’s and whiner BoSox. Closer Gregg called out Papi after he popped up and his listed-230-going on 275 frame didn’t run. This, after he swung on 3-0 and had a 3-run jack in the 1st. He was livid in steroidal rage at Gregg’s comment, but once near him wasn’t sure whether to throw a punch or not. After the game, with O’s in major slide (gave up 40 runs in 4 previous games), Gregg says ‘what, we can’t pitch inside?’ He’s not the best or brightest, but I give it to him for chutzpah.
And Loo, that was indeed The ‘Giant Killer’ Hairston.
This game sucked ostrich balls. As for me? I think Ralph Bellamy said it best when he said “Giive me more money or give me the girl”
Goodnight, gentlemen (question mark)
Huff needs a blow. Or at least a change in the order. He’s hit what appears to be 50 3-hops to 2nd in a row.
1 extra base hit in 14 games. 3 in the last 23.
I’d take Miggy 3rd and Panda 4th at this point. Put Huff 6th behind Nate. Or sit his ass down for a couple.
