Some Random Thoughts as I do a Slow Burn About this First Place Team
I know it should just be about impossible to be upset about being in first place but I’m having no problem whatsoever getting there. Aubrey Huff needs to sit down for at least a week. He’s got 2 RBI’s in his last 11 games—and both of those were in that 15-3 laugher when they weren’t even needed. He hasn’t hit a home run since June 2nd. He has ONE extra base hit since June 23rd. That’s almost impossible to to believe and he’s making me miss Molina’s dry spells as the clean up hitter…..
Marty Lurie has been talking about picking up Beltran, non-stop, for about 2 months now. I want Sabean to acquire him for no other reason than I can’t listen to Lurie talk about it anymore. But seriously, I am totally on board with a Beltran trade. I suspect you wouldn’t have to give up as much as you think since he’s an unbelievably expensive rental–you lose him at the end of the year plus he’s still owed 9 million for the rest of this year. Not a lot of clubs are looking to take on 9 million more for a rental. You wouldn’t have to give up Dirrrrrty or Belt. It’s not gonna get done with Burriss, Gillespe etc either. Maybe Nate and a B-room pitcher………
The Flap Fantasy Baseball League Standings
(Pawlie continues to dominate like “mall tits on a hot Summer afternoon”. Kevin reaches for the gas mask with a 5.5 point drop and picking up my cast off Matt Capps ain’t gonna help you much. He’s the Dr. Kevorkian of closers)

Smartest man alive for a rental? You must be joking.
In trying to figure out what Beltran would cost, I just found this from Olney (who knows his shit)
@Buster_ESPN
Buster Olney
Remember what must happen for Carlos Beltran trade to happen: Mets would probably have to eat $5-$7 million–and take Grade B-/C+ prospect.
Stuck late at work, didn’t see or hear anything til I walked into a place down the street and saw Wilson vs. Hairston. Wilson couldn’t put him away after going full count, and Hairston yanked one. Same thing with Pagan…he had 2 strikes on him, Whitey kept calling low and away and Pagan kept fouling them off. Then Wilson leaves one up and Pagan smokes it over Andres head Is he using something different for “out pitch” these days? 17 pitches and he only got one guy out on the popped up bunt (which was more than affeldt).
Beltran is certainly interesting, but…he’s expensive for a rental, and will definitely cost you a couple younger players, while adding another aging vet (like SF doesn’t have enough of those already) into the team picture. Shea says he is, “A friend of Torres, Jonathan Sanchez and Sandoval…” Maybe he’d feel good about coming back for less bucks if SF can go places in post season again.
Bad news for Pudge fans…Nats put him on the DL, so he ain’t going anywhere for another couple weeks.
One more thing about beltran…he doesn’t solve Huff issue either. I don’t like Pablo defensively at 1b, and Belt is more than likely spending the summer enjoying fresno. Only other guy who has played 1b is burriss, and that isn’t a solution either. So unless you trade for another 1b, Huff stays and plays, it looks like.
We can’t trade away our best OFer in Nate (how fucking pathetic is that?) for Beltran. This team needs what little hitting it has. Runzler, Burriss and we pay the entire $8 million. They’ll take it and like it.
Seriously, I want all you Flappers to think about that over your morning coffee and danish. Nate Schierholtz is our best outfielder. If you don’t think this team needs outside help, your head’s stuck so far up Larry Baer’s ass that you can no longer see straight. Nate Schierholtz is our best outfielder. I can’t stop shaking my head…
And I don’t know WTF we’re gonna do with Huff. Maybe we could have Casey Anthony babysit him over the All-Star break…
I think giants need nate for his flexibility and for his clutch hitting/defense from last and this year…that said, I’d do the runzler and burriss deal in a heartbeat!
After I read the olney tweet I realized Nate would be too much. And I agree with Denny, eat the $ and give them 2 shitty players
Nate is not going anywhere….we should trade Ross for Beltran, so the Mets would have to eat the $1.5 mill or so of Ross’ contract and maybe add in a couple more million….
So, reading the 3-Dot Lounge this morning.
Good GOD!!!
Bruce Jenkins has totally hitched his wagon to the Zito star. Fucking dreamer. Zito will fuck us eventually. It’s simply in his karma. Drug free (since his CY year), complacent, naturally stoned loser.
Actually, one of the things that really pisses me off about Zito is that he’s a winner. He has one of the best jobs western civilization has ever created, he’s rolling in dough and babes, and he’s only 34 years old.
Most of my money was spent on booze and babes. The rest of it, I just… well, simply wasted.
Double mr – When asked what he’d do with the money from a raise, I think Tug Mcgraw said, 90% I’ll spend on women and whiskey and the other 10% I’ll probably just waste. I’ve always wanted to win the lotto just to use that line (well, and the bucks would be pretty cool too.).
Jeter gets #3,000 with a HR off David Price. First Yankee ever to reach that plateau. Like ’em or not, that’s pretty damn impressive…
So if the Mets said they had to have Nate, you’d turn down the deal. This has gone beyond Cult status, you people are insane…
Never thought ‘d say this but it appears that Whitey has beaten off a challenge to his job..
BTW, both before his recall and now, Belt has been as bad at Fresno as Huff has been here..
Fontenot is going to have to be starting soon…
Baggs is making a BFD out of Wilson not talking to media after the game, TOO big a deal….
Missed the Disastrous Ninth. Watched via the Mets’ station through 6 innings. KA-FUCKIN-BOOOOM! You cannot stay in first for long playing like that. Yes, I know all about the NL West and comparisons to last year, etc. But — and I love Huff and understand Bochy’s loyalties — what’s with Molinasizing him? Remember when he sat, or was threatened with it last month? 3 HRs in STL.
Sigh.
And, Magnus, funny mall reference. I get it.
Keep Nate.
JuggerNate, a Tweeter calls him (maybe Matt Leland).
Nap. Then Bachelor Party. Groom-to-be is resisting stripper suggestions.
Don’t kbow what’s going on with Runzlstiltskin, but he’s started 5 games, averaging about 3 innings per start. Now he’s coming out of the pen again. Didn’t get bombed, a lotta walks.
Pawlie, sitting atop the main SFGs fantasy league, at a bachelor party in a Chicago style suit and smokin’ a big stogie while watching a stripper. Now that’s a winning manager with attitude.
Gee, how’d you know? hahahahahaha
Shit, Flavor, I was just gonna offer Huff to Blade. He wants a first baseman with some pop. what’s the odds on his 2nd half being the opposite of his first?
Yeah Flav, after Thursdays game I jumped 5 points and then Fridays I drop 5.5, one step forward and 1.5 back, LOL
It never dawned on me, until I looked it up after Jeter did it, that Ted Williams didn’t reach 3,000 hits. Of course he spent a lot of time in the military which probably amounts to that but for some reason I just assumed he was in the club.
This post has no deep meaning whatsoever
My bachelor party was held at Burger King.

Nate is almost untouchable.
My bachelor party was almost held untouchable

Nate is Burger King
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom. Or was that the guy doing the Humpty Dance? Let’s say it was me, makes for a better story…
CF Rowand, 2B Tejada, 3B Sandoval, LF Burrell, RF Schierholtz, 1B Huff, C Stewart, SS Crawford, P Lincecum.
A 23 year old kid caught Jeter’s 3000th and handed it over to him.
Sucker?
Nah. 2-3 years from now no one’s going to give a shit about Jeter’s 3,000th hit but Jeter. It’ll be worth a couple hun tops. He probably got much better swag in exchange.
If it’s worth the $ 250,000 they say it is, than he’s friggin’ moron…
Yeah, I read that too. I also read 100K and 75K. 250K?? Bullshit!! Maybe today while it’s still news. Tomorrow it’ll be worth a cheese sandwich. There’s no precedence for a 3,000 hit ball. Most of them went to the HOF. Only a die hard Yankee fan bitch would pay that much.
In reference to the Orb of Wisdom’s 12:27pm post:
Sans the terrific Giants pitching staff and the Panda, I wouldn’t have any Giants’ position player on my FL team right now, yesterday, tomorrow, next year . . . See where I’m going with this?
I finally axed Torres off my last team (I owned him on three teams this year). I have Sandoval on my National Fantasy Baseball League team. That’s it…….
Exactly Flav. If Capps is the “Dr. Kevorkian” of closers, then that makes everyone else on the Giants roster not named Sandoval, Dr Kevorkian interns-in-waiting.
I still think we’ll end up seeing Tejada/Fontenot in the middle, barring a trade.
So what happens to Crawford? sent down?
The two “Dudes” hit the wire together in the Hollywood Gold Cup. It’s Bob Baffert’s world and we’re just living in it…
hall went on DL so they didn’t need to make a move to bring Font back. Font is pretty expendable though. I’m assuming he and burriss are one of the next to go should we need to make another move
No one on Earth throws better sitting on his rear end than Burriss.
Maybe he should try batting that way.
Well, since Dennis is still in the can and this is always a topic for some meaningless but good jokes:
Rowand CF, Tejada 2B, Sandoval 3B, Burrell LF, Schierholtz RF, Huff 1B, Stewart C, Crawford SS, Lincecum P.
Okay, I’ll go first. The last time they started Rowand in CF over Torres because of a lefty? 0-4
Torres sucks, rowand sucks, they all suck except Pablo. Who plays is of almost no interest to me. Of the 9 hitters out there (of course I include the pitcher, he is one of *them*) I’m just hoping that someone does something late to win it. It’s usually Nate who saves everyone’s bacon.
Again, exactly right. I have absolutely, unequivocally NO idea how they win each night – other than knowing that pitching has to be part of this algebraic equation that I certainly don’t understand – but somehow, someway, they manage to do so. That’s the beauty of our Giants 🙂
hey, guys, the game is starting
and Blade, if you look at it, Huff could improve your team over Tex
especially if he has a good second half.
Nah, we don’t need a guy like Beltran. The dumb sumbitch is driving up his price. Get ’em out next time, Timmy.
Tejada runs like old people fuck…
The Nate-ural?
Further goes to prove that Tejada, ANY Tejada should not play shortstop…
Huff gets rewarded for hitting it even softer this time. He’ll take it.
Huff hits a 2 hopper instead of a 3 hopper to 2nd. Hes mixing it up I like it
Yeah, if he keeps this up, I am really, really going to have to consider Ed’s offer . . . NOT!
of the 8 guys that started in the field last night, tejada had the third best avg…at .240 end of the night.
I missed this place….How’s everyone doing?
You still in Houston? We could use Pence, Bourn and Keppinger. Bring ’em back on your next trip to SF.
Carping as usual. And thin skinned too. Ouch!
I quite posting right before Posey got called up last year…I am as superstitious as Dennis if not more…The more I stayed away, the more the Giants won….I think my last post was the morning of Game 4 of the World Series, as I was on my way to Arlington.
Anyone else thinking Pat needs to start wearing the Machine outfit under his uni?
Either that or Huff’s thong.
Bring back the thong.
Still in Houston…Unfortunatley!
Been following on a regular basis….Laughed (or is it LQTM) when Loo stole my Carlos Lee trade proposal….Giants don’t want Lee. anyway..What was I thinking? Though my original proposal was Bumgarner for Berkman back in 2009…That one was a little bit better.
Welcome back, WJ……I was just trying to keep your memory alive. Figured you were on a desert island with ChiPower and wswinb4igo…
Wsw wasn’t lying was he?
seems like as Giants offense gets more boring the “updates with amy G” increase dramatically.
Nice hustle from the gamer right there.
Wilco– I golfed with San dog last week and we universally agreed that you were the blogger who is most missed. Stay in touch and great to *see* you again
Good to be back…Glad to hear I am more missed than Soph.
hey wilco…A’s were complaining about the heat down there, 105 yesterday?
didn’t help them much today either, as bailey gave up a 2 run walk off to Hamilton to blow a save and the game. They are now 11 back, dead last in division. rebuild mode, again.
ground attack comes through again.
I have lived in Texas since ’97 and have never seen so little rain…It’s fucked.
I have the Mets announcers….I swear Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling are the same person.
That works Way to go Pablo..
I guess Clubber’s still posting on the old blog?
Hi Joe, nice to hear from you again.
Thanks Twin!
Well, good game so far, and I suspect it is BW time?
oooh, I have been away and not keeping up with the news, or the games
always like Dick Williams, true baseball guy
I even thought the WS was last Tuesday
we don’t get much baseball news here
I’m going totally against that stoopid “book,” and I’m walking Hairston here. I’m not gonna let that cocksucker tie the game with one swing. Damn that book. I’m going Buck Showalter here.
Hairston’s up…I guess I will make that next one a double.
I still woulda walked him. 😀
And the ballgame is over!
Piece a cake.
Somebody go tell Molly that Romo isn’t the new closer. You do it Dennis.
Say goodnight Dennis.
Strange but good game tonight. Lincecum wasn’t at his best. A whole lot of fastballs flew away high, very high. But he also induced many futile swing throughs at nasty breaking balls and change ups low. Overall, a good start. Huff and Burrell, of course, still look like the two hungover guys in the Jack in the Box ad. But Pablo is hot. Rowand and Miggy are going all out. Somehow al of that mixed together to produce a convincing win. Two up on the DBacks, as a result. Now let’s get tomorrow’s game and go enjoy the AS break.
I give Rowand POTG for that great first to third base running that secured the insurance run. He forced the issue, Beltran responded with a great throw, but Rowand beat it by a split second. Nice play.
Hey Denny, I’ll be at Monmouth all day tomorrow. Got any tips?
Find Paul Lo Duca. Yes, that Paul Lo Duca. He’s been there for the past month working for TVG. He’s pretty tuned in to the local scene. I don’t follow Monmouth that closely myself. You could do worse than seeing what Joe Bravo is riding tomorrow. Not too many oinkers for that jock. Good luck.
Card’s came back to beat AZ, too. Indeed we are powerful, as the Twinperor has foreseen. Together we will rule the galaxy!
Not until the Giants recruit a few new Jedi Knights. A new Padawan is needed to rule this galaxy. Anakin Beltran. Make a trade, we must.
AZ pen is reverting to form. It’s why they have zero chance..
Agree with you, Xoot, the mix is enough. Good win.
As for improvements, if you look at all the teams, there’s not a lot out there for Sabean. First off, there are a lot of veterans who could handle a stretch run–free agent to be or not–who are underperforming. And any of the younger guys who are producing, for example, Stanton of the Marlins, are nearly franchise-protected. Finally, Sabean does need to think of chemistry to an extent–while help would be appreciated, this team is molded in fire. Anyway, this is going to be a tough assignment for Sabes.
it’s not a straight forward, go get this guy, thing. Reyes, who was never a gimme is now on the dl. beltran, who is looking good this series, is an injury away from no help at all. And the part about being forged in fire is exactly true. unfortunately, that doesn’t leave me sleeping well.
The thing is, no one Sabes got last year was very highly regarded. From Huff to Ross to Ray to Burrell to Casilla on down the line, they came in and caught the vibe, felt the groove, or whatever you want to call it. Would a guy like Paulino come in and drop 15 HRs? Probably not, but we’d get a hell of a lot more than we’re currently getting. Catcher at this point is the black hole. However, Huff’s lack of production is becoming an imploding star.
