A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Milwaukee is Pretty Good

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 23, 2011

Working with some substandard equipment here so this will be quick. I caught the game from a poker table last night. The Kepp Era has started off slowly, yet predictably. I declare Milwaukee to be better than us, as we are currently constructed. I didn’t sweat the Morgan thing the way the rest of you seemed to. He’s crazy, everyone knows that.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have been too unhappy with a tie game after Braun got on. Nice DP…

Fleming and miller were pretty happy roenicke had Hart bunt after Gallardo double, too.
Nice play by Keps, to double up Weeks.
If you don’t get ahead of SF by now, you’re in trouble…as brewers found out last night.

K and K have talked so much about Nate’s two strike hitting, I looked it up.While it may not be quite as good as they’ve declared, the diff from last year is huge, This is AB with two strikes( any number of balls), BA, OBP, OPS
    2010: 109 .138 .217 419
    2011: 131 .267 .309 .660

They like Wilson to start innings..

Intuition must be working again today. Impeccable timing. Came in from gardening to catch Giants scoring their two runs and then went back out. Returned just as Wilson had K.ed Prince Fielder in the 9th. Bumgarner pitched an incredibly efficient 7 2/3 at 93 pitches, 8 Ks and ZERO BBs and now his ERA is at my magic # of 56 with a three in front and his record ups to 6-9 with with 11 or so starts remaining. He may end up with a winning record yet if he keeps it up. What was he? 2-8 not so long ago due to lack of run support. He didn’t get much today either but outpitched Milwaukee’s homegrown #2 starter Yovani Gallardo who has had a lot of success against SF in the past.

Romo and Wilson do it again. Quick and efficient. Sergio keeps Ryan Braun from tying the game with one swing. Could our .38 Special be tiring of drama? Two Ks and a harmless flyball in the 9th against the heart of the Brewcrew order was a nice piece of work.

What a great way to hit the road. Downing a very tough Milwaukee team to win the series after going down in game one was another example of the staying power and comeback prowess of this Giants team when faced with a formidable opponent. Sixty games to go and they commence with a big series against the ML leading Phillies at their place and then swing into hot and humid Cincinnati with its formidable lumberyard, so-so starters and pretty formidable bullpen. How good are the Giants? We should find out this week.

It was SF baseball at it’s best the last two days- and another schooling by Bochy. Ron Dunderhaed made two decisions that absolutely lost the game, and they weren’t questionable-they were dead wrong regardless of the outcome.
So bring on the offense bashers- this was baseball at it’s best.

Since that ugly Minnesota game, MadBum has allowed only 3 walks in 42 innings. That will keep your team in any game.

    • SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on July 24, 2011 at 4:29 pm

….except he didn’t walk anyone in that ugly Minnesota game. I get your point though—he has bounced back very well from that horrible outing. Also glad to see him pitch better at ATT.

      • EdGdsnInExile's avatar EdGdsnInExile said, on July 24, 2011 at 4:39 pm

        Exactly.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 5:06 pm

His penchant for getting the first pitch over is what Minnesota took advantage of. Twins have never been a patient team at the plate, against Bum it worked to their advantage.

  12. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 24, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Some fun facts. Giants go 27-13 today in one-run games. Yowwwza! Today’s win was the team’s ML leading 29th come from behind victory. Bullpen has given up exactly one hit in the last 13 2/3 innings. Incurfriggingredible!!

Going on at their current pace the Giants should end up with 93 or 94 wins. Addition of a bat could up that total a bit. Team ERA takes another dip today as great pitching once again trumps excellent hitting.

It’s now said that Beltran has ruled out a trade to the AL, also B.J. Upton considered an alternative- hell. he *looks* good but he’s worse than what we have.

  16. wilcojoe's avatar wilcojoe said, on July 24, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Agreed Twin…That BA and OPS is horrendous…Hopefully the Phillies or Braves take Upton and that forces the Mets to come down from their “pie in the sky” demands.

  17. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on July 24, 2011 at 7:47 pm

We have to get Beltran after all of our “wooing.” 1. Bochy names him an All-Star. 2. Carlos hitches a ride to Arizona on the Giants charter. 3. BW welcomes Beltran to SF in the starting lineup announcement. His OPS is > .900. .910 to be exact. His post All-Star OPS is 1.440. Carlos bats cleanup and that gives us back-to-back switch hitters in the two most important slots. When’s the last time that happened? Beltran or bust. And then all you naysayers who’ve nixed the deal all along can bash Sabean. And you better bash him but good. No coming over to the dark side and suddenly calling the Beltran trade a good move and something you’ve wanted all along. Sell the farm and win now. I could give a shit about tomorrow, let alone next year.

You don’t dictate anything-you’re the biggest flip flopper here. IF it happens, evaluation will be made based on what they gave up and how they play him.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:24 pm

I’ll dictate whatever the fuck I want. My middle name is Il Duce. You can’t wait until if and when we make it back to the WS to say whether or not you like the trade. WTF is that shit? They don’t allow me to bet on the horses when they hit the 1/8 pole. You either like it July 31 or you don’t. And 90% here said they don’t want Beltran. So they best be bitching. Especially when we give up Wheeler to keep him from going to either Philly or Hotlanta.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Yes I can, because it’s the only fucking justification for making the deal. This one is a success or failure based 100 percent on whether they advance to the WS. ESPECIALLY because, if they don’t make deal and dont’t repeat, IL Duce and his klan will claim that’s why. You doomorons wantit both ways. Nope-if they get Beltran, it’s World Series or it’s a total waste and I’d have you tied to a chair to watch Wheeler receive his WS ring in 2013…

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:42 pm

What if Beltran hits .450 in the playoffs, drives in runs like crazy, but for whatever reason the pitching goes in the toilet and they lose. That makes it a bad deal? Nonsense.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:50 pm

That’s how it works. They’re in the playoffs and can fuck up without him and still have two blue chippers. If .450 isn’t enough, the cocksucker better hit .500

  19. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:08 pm

And a deal such as this is only a good deal if they go back to the World Series. So it can’t really be evaluated right away. And for those who say they have no chance to advance without such a deal, you are obviously not much of a baseball history buff.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:38 pm

They have no chance to advance without such a deal. ” I’d love to be a Civil War buff.” ” So Biff wants to be a buff? … Well sleeping less than 18 hours a day
      would be a start. “

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:53 pm

You’re going to give Sabean credit for a good try if they crash and burn with Beltran? Absolute bullshit.

  20. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:47 pm

I will, of course, just as last year (yes) and 2009 (no) give you the acccurate call on whether the deal will help. Just as I told you that Garko cost them the playoffs in 2009 and last years deadline deals clinched it. But any deadline deals are ultimately successful or not solely based on the intent of the deal- in this case, that’s the World Series…nothing less.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on July 24, 2011 at 8:57 pm

What are you waiting for? What the Giants give up in return for Beltran has no impact on whether or not he’ll help or not.
Does getting outside help like I’ve been saying all along they need to do (already did w/ Kepp) put them over the top?
      Yea or nay?
