Winning, Winning and More Winning…..
The Sun Dressed Goddess delivered us another victory last night. Six in a row since she became our leader. I bow to the greatness of her stupendous rack and would buy her a thousand train tickets if given the chance……
Weird to see Zito join the party last night. I appreciated Raggs comments about him. Next year he’ll be 34 and it’s just not realistic to expect that, even were he to re-capture a shadow of his former self, he would be able to make 33-34 starts a year. Who knows? If he came in as a reliever for 1 hitter or an inning he might be able to find some extra velocity. I don’t think it’s fair or even smart to NOT give him as chance to show us whether or not he can be a marginally effective reliever…..
Cody Ross goes down and that sucks. He was really hitting the ball well the last week or so. I’m assuming this is another chance for Torres to rise from the dead again. It just hasn’t happened for him this year but you never know, anyone can get hot for a week or two. We are going to need him to be productive at the top of the LU if we want to keep our Sun Dressed Goddess happy……
I’ve got no faith in Surkamp today. He could be one of our 2 remaining losses…….
I know I’m probably reading too much into his words, but here’s Belt from Baggs’ blog:
“Bam Bam thought that would work,” Belt said of hitting coach Hensley Meulens. “I finally did what he told me to do. It’s going to help. That pitch I hit (Thursday) night, an inside fastball, I’ve been taking it for strike three…”
In other words, a guy who’s had some 150 ABs in the pros, a couple months or two at AAA, has been ignoring what the pro hitting coach has been telling him. That’s the (negative) flip side of the self-confidence the pro athlete needs to have. Anyway, it’s not hard to imagine the Rowands, Tejadas, et. al., ignoring the hitting coach as well.
Headed to Marlins-Nats tonight. Always nice to be at a ballgame even when you can’t be with your team!
Enjoy Strasburg.
Kids nite was pretty cool…good games from crawford, belt, stewart, and bum. Bum is really dealing right now, finishing strong when they need it most. Props to belt too, for a couple bombs to completely different parts of the yard. Maybe a late season catch of fire makes him feel better and propels him to bigger and better things, starting the winter leagues.
Just like vogs, if we get surkamp enough runs and he lasts 5, we should be OK.
Trivia note…Ryan Braun became the second Brewer to get to 30/30 last night. Was completely unaware that the first was Tommy Harper, alameda guy who played school ball with Pops Stargell before starting his career with the Reds.
They had some of the comments from beltran in the Chron today, about SF needing a good leadoff guy at the top to make things happen for the middle order guys. He had a lot of good things to say about Reyes. Can you imagine him here, with beltran and posey? Can you imagine the bean counting execs choking on their chardonnay?
Ed– I read that too but everything I’ve seen and read about Belt is that he’s a pretty humble guy. Maybe when it comes to hitting though, he’s stubborn. It seems that way from his quote. Still, nice to see him cop to BamBam being right in print……
Flav–I think the confidence thing that allows you to forego others’ advice, is generally about stubbornness than lack of humility–whether with Belt or otherwise. He seems like a good kid. Crawford too. Its more ‘these tools, this approach, have got me this far.’ It’s interesting too, those reports from some weeks back, about Bonds’ visit to the clubhouse, and pretty much the veterans were the only ones to gather round. Perhaps its a case too of the young guys, especially those on a fast rise, not having hit the real valleys–whereas every veteran has had their peaks and valleys over time.
Another nice win for the club last night. Jenkins has a pice on Neukom that is interesting. Lots of anonymous quotes but this on summed up my thoughts on the matter.
“Here’s a guy, Neukom, who was always the smartest guy in the room, without acting like it or trying to prove it. He simply wanted the Giants to stay on top of the heap, and he made every move with that in mind. This is a guy who helped Microsoft stare down the United States government in the Supreme Court. And he’s supposed to ask all these investors for permission on the moves he’s supposed to make? Petty jealousy knows no bounds, and it may well have just cost this organization the best leader they ever had.”
And that will be my final beating of this dead horse.
May the Supple Solar Sartorial Stunner sprinkle more stardust on us Saturday.
I love watching how loose these guys are in the dugout.
They surrendered to win.
When they saw it was nearly hopeless, they harvested hope.
This could get really fun. Too early to get way too excited, but I’m getting there.
Proud of this crew. No doubt in my mind they themselves thoroughly believe they’ll somehow do it.
Here’s hoping that vibe sends our opponents into sheer panic.
And who is a better example of a hot team in the stretch than the 2007 Rockies? I’ll take a page out of that hymnal and sing it.
Pawlie – the tension is getting to the D-Backs… shutout for only the 4th time last night……… The boys are coming up slowing in the rear….. 9/23…………. Judgement Day……………
We call it “achieving the zen of giving up”
that Jenkins article was pretty revealing. I trust that he was talking to the right people. Had it been Kawakami I might not have trusted that…….
I’m curious to see the other shoe drop. Whoever they appoint above Larry.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of this Team. They are giving every effort to give the fans and themselves a ‘high’ that no drug can surpass..
MLB is starting to rethink their counting out the Giants… I can understand their prior doubts and discounting any opportunity for them to stay in the race. However, I’ve been listening on KNBR and before this 6 game run, the KNBR announcers were literally joking and burying the Giants… Way to go guys! Your the voice of this team and if there was anyone we expected to stay till elimination I and the fans and the players expected it to be the SF sportscasters…..That pissed me off to no end…. !!
And owners. If you check the link on the SF Giants site from yesterday’s thread, the one with “Miquel Murphy” listed as clubhouse manager, KNBR is one of the partners.
No one essential from the ‘pen was brought in last night and Romo has had a couple days off, so if they can get Surkamp thru 5 they should be OK. The Ross hammy, though, of all the goddamn luck, just when he was rakin’ it. This team is going to have to fight through all these freakin’ injuries right to the very end.
I’m fine with Torres getting another shot. Ross has been abysmal this year, he could easily have been about to go into another 1-11. The only thing I worry about is Torres putting too much pressure on himself. That’s been the single downside to getting that contract this year……
Absolutely…. he’s been missing those sliders by 12 inches…. Maybe the momentum and team support will relax Torres…. One thing we can count on is his defensive skills…. man can he cover!
Any update on the severity of that hammy?… Cody was focused and lasered in.
DZ: Bochy was quoted on Yahoo Sports saying he expected Cody to be out for a week. Ouch. So Torres will have to rise to the occasion one more time. Hoping both Bam Bam and Bruce have talks with him about not needing to yank the ball outta the park when he’s the man who’s sposta get on base so the meat of the order can knock him in.
Flav: I’m not too worried about Surkamp facing this adumbrated Rox lineup. My expectation is giving up modest damage over five-six innings. Bigger worry about the Colorado starter Drew Pomeranz. He came to the Rox from Cleveland in the Ubaldo deal as the Indians’ #` draft pick last year and #5 overall. Kid squelched the Reds in his first appearance for the Rox and pitches a tight groove. Even without the services of Cody, though, this team has been scoring runs lately and may find ways to do it again. Probably will need to score four or so. My suspicions is that this game will be fought a lot closer than the first two. More of a contest.
Best thing is that the Giants believe in themselves again.
Stix: you’ve reached your quota on “adumbrated” for this week (2). Now I gotta look it up at Merriam-Webster.com. Something-something shadowed, from the Latin?
Rox lineup might be weakened, reduced, diluted, diminished, altered, alloyed, mitigated, or addled — but not adumbrated.
I appreciate all the entries, but the tragedy or death should be baseball related in some way…
Zito will not be an effective reliever and he will be not be an effective starter. If they can’t figure out a way to get rid of him they will be carrying 11 pitchers and a guy to hold Gardy’s clipboard.
If you do contribute to the Baseball Tragedy topic, it might be nice if you’d expand a little bit, I really wasn’t looking for a list…
Torres contract? Why is 2.2 million considered such a neat-o contract? I don’t get that at all. We may be happy now that it wasn’t more, but he got stiffed. I totally understand that a guy his age with no previously success wasn’t getting a contract like Huff’s, but this was ( by WAR) the most valuable player on the 2010 team- more than even Timmy . Torres WAR was 6.6, Tim’s 5.1. In the NL that ranked only behind Pujols, Votto, Zimmerman, and Holliday.
As the MVP of the WS team, and in reality, number 5 MVP in the NL, he deserved at least double what he got. Realize that nearly all contracts are for past performance.
http://tinyurl.com/3tw8k6p
And this has nothing to do with “hate Timmeh” or or anything else other than what I think was a lowball contract.
BTW, Chuck- your boys did me in, I give up. Spit was right.
Why is the picture of the Supple Solar Sartorial Stunner look like a bad logo? And not even a feminine logo.
The pic is trying to be sourced from a mail acct enclosure, which may or may not still exist or be otherwise accessed. A better method would be to DL the pic from the mail source, then ULed straight into WP. (More of a hint for Craig, but answers your question anyway)
We can’t afford to DL the Sun Dress chick now…
Boch must be getting altitude sickness. DeRosa is in cleanup today. Maybe it’s so crazy, it will work. But, I’d rather have the chick the sundress hitting there…
DJLoo … LoL! Didn’t even realize I left that low-hanging softball. Must be my Zito biorhythms day.
Can’t sneak a hanger past Loo.
The Braves starting rotation is so depleted right now, they have to keep trotting out Derrick Lowe, their equivalent to Zito. Without Hanson and Jurgins, the Braves are just trying to hang on to their playoff spot and hope the regular season runs out quickly.
Kind of amazing that they only won one WS with Maddux, Glavine & Smoltz. It’s not like they didn’t have any offense. I think a weak BP and some miscellaneous PS poor performances hurt them. The Giants have to capitalize on their big 3 while they can…
Early WS predictions, (not written in (Det. Lt. Mike) Stone. Philly and the Tigers.
If you want the winner, you’ll have to call my 800 number.
The lineup today simply blows, especially in the middle of a hot streak. Clank Cabrera in, Crawford sits. Torres is horrible against LHP, he’s in, Belt out after two straight homer games. Cody is out is no excuse for Andres in against a LHP. They’re facing a young pup pitcher, the young guys should be in there. Cabrera better pick it clean today, at the very least. Starting infield today has as much combined range as a foursome of sumo wrestlers after a night of teppanyaki and sake on the Ginza…
“They’re facing a young pup pitcher, the young guys should be in there. ”
And your supporting data for that is ?
Crawford should be in against a lefty, presumably for defense, but Torres should be out?
Even Snarkk is feigning interest in the Giants, Denny.
The Giants’ winning streak has many daubers stirring and showing some signs of life.
Cabrera sucks but he’s hitting 100 points higher than Crawford against lefties, his fielding pct. is .965 to Craw’s .968 and his Range factor is better than Crawford’s ( 4.54 to 4.16)..
But the mystery is why Snarkkles would come down so hard on Torres against lefties but not on the Mudbug.
Tonight is it for me. I’m expecting a loss. But if we win tonight I will be back in full fantasy mode. But I gave myself 2 to play with. Surkamp can be one of them and it’s still all good….
Is Pill in Lu? You guys post it every day, how come not today?
We all know Torres has sucked against RHP all year, his splits v. LHP are horrific. .158/.304/.211. Belt is far better — at .324./.390/.514 in nearly 40 ABs v. LHPs, and hit jacks the last two games, getting good ABs. Christian plays center just fine, so there is no compelling reason for Torres to play today or at all the rest of the year other than in pinch roles. The team wins with Crawford at SS, simple…
With Ross down and Rowand feverishly swinging away in his cage at home, who would you like to see playing CF instead of Torres?
He wants Mr. Christian, from the H.M.S. Bounty.
See 3:30….
As for Gamer, I think he can stop swinging now, since nobody wanted him, even for free…
I wonder why Pablo is not starting tonight.
Disappointing braves win. Christian over Torres? Not if I’m writing the LU card. Win 90 (my call) or 92 (twin’s) and I’ve gotta think we take this thing to the final day of the season.
Starting a guy that’s hitting a pathetic .158 against LHPs all year is nothing but hoping for lightning in a bottle. It might happen, could happen, but likely won’t happen. If he’d try a bunt for a hit every time up, he’d be better off…
“Starting a guy that’s hitting a pathetic .158 against LHPs *ALL YEAR*”… 38 AB
Your crusade against Torres started last year when he was team MVP. His bat, bunting, a bitch per game. I say you have ‘splainin to do and I don’t give a shit how that sounds. When you’re touting the worst hitter and least valuable player on the the team while constantly trashing Andres, it’s bullshit, pal.
I’m not too proud to scoreboard watch the Cardinals game. Really, if we gain a game on any of those 3 (braves, AZ, Cards) it has to be considered a step in the right direction.
Feelin’ pretty good about today’s LU:
Torres CF
Keppinger 2B
Beltran RF
DeRosa 3B
Pill 1B
Cabrera SS
Christian LF
Stewart C
Surkamp P
DeRosa is fine in the 4. He’s all about soft liners for base hits into the OF. With men on base, I can dig that. It’s Coors Field, there are 5 or 6 guys in the LU who can hit a bomb.
Scratch that. There are 4 possible players who can hit a bomb tonight…
And with Torres hitting a buck against lefties I’m gonna have to take that # down a notch. There are three! (3) players who can hit a bomb tonight. Kepp. Beltran. Pill. That’s it. I stand by those 3 and won’t drop it again!
“The team wins with Crawford at SS, simple…”
Because of Crawford? Sure. Weak, pal. Crawford is worse than even Torres against LHers.
Torres WAR 0.8
Cabrera 0
Crawford- tied with Bill Hall, last of all players: Minus 0.5
I think it’s free game at MLB network, but alas I’ll probably watch it on my laptop via MLB or Kos cuz I am an exile in my own house. The girls have important cable shit to watch. Right. Sure. King of the castle.
Cody saying he is feeling somewhat better, but still might be a week.
When’s the last time Font played? Seems like a while.
Phils 1-0 over Cards in 3rd.
J Roll to be a FA. I like him.
I watched, not bet on the horses today. They really are a beautiful animal.
take a vacation to the United Arab Emirates. They’re watching them run around in circles all day without betting on them……..
Hijo de las chingadas, so much jonesing over the LU. What ever…if you are in there, you gotta make it happen. De rosa deserves 4 ABs, and this is a perfect yard because of all the room the OF guys have to play deep, which leaves him room to dink. Ross is not gonna play for a while, so bochy gets a look at Christian in LF, and gets Torres some run back in the leadoff, vs. a kid who has never seen him before. If it works it gets his confidence up for next time we see a lefty.
As craig said, maybe somebody runs into one… how many bombs in the last week? let the kids rest up, they are always available to PH and play D, probably couple of them start the day game tmw.
Dear Braves and Diamondbacks:
Words to live by:
“The Red Sox have lost 10 of their last 13 games since Sept. 3, when they led the wild-card race by nine games.”
Yogi Berra would concur. Where’s Ranger Smith? Keep an eye out on my pic-a-nic baskets.
Snarkk’s bias against Torres runs so deep that he’s advocating a guy hitting .111, who Snarkk totally trashed (Christian) over Torres– against any pitcher…
This is the last response I give to you on this bullshit. You are on permanent ignore w/respect to this accusatory crap. You love Torres, fine. For whatever reason. He’s been crap this year. I’ve given far more criticism to Huff and Gamer. Far more. Your racist, bias accusatory bullshit is total tripe, against me, as well as others that you dump this shitload on. I will not respond to this outrageous bullshit ever again…
And I’m fed up with your unjustified nonstop attacks on Torres. I don’t give a shit what motivates it. You are a cynical, fabricating, POS. I HAVE been nice to you as per Craig’s request ( you and “Death Threat ” Denny), but your constant negativity is boring and repetitive. As I’ve said, you’re a 100 loss poster. And get this straight- I have never even insinuated anybody else is a bigoted lowlife-just you.
Well, wih this POS posting tonight, I’m out.
Hey, we’re on a 6 game win streak and the impending Surkamp loss is being delayed by rain. It’s all good right now. Why you two girls are arguing about Torres for the 5 millionth time is beyond me…….
How ’bout that Surkamp? Bettern Zito, and at less than half the price! It’ll be interesting to see how his curveball does in the altitude. Heavier air after a rain probably will be good for his repertoire…
I have Eric on my fantasy team. Go Kamp!
You started Surkamp in Colorado?
” You could be walking around lucky, and not even know it.”
5 of clubs.
Giambi looks like he’s 60 years old…
I loved Kruk’s “for all you young players out there” quips. He’s gotten away from that the last several years. That tennis ball-catcher drill was great, I wish he’d tangent on more of that.
How many do we have to score tonight to win? I’ll go with 6-10.
4/5 says Zito is on the Orca next year. “Hey chief! Best drop another chum marker.”
Sur-prise!!!!
Ha. I love that Stewart has 9 rbi’s. San dawg is following that “will he get to 10 rbi’s” with great interest….
Really looking forward to tonight’s Stanford vs ‘Zona game.
We all know about Andrew, keep an eye out for Nick Foles. I like his moxie.
Do you mean to tell me these guys are really the San Francisco Giants?
For who, for what?
I’ll tell ya… he’s a fucking mook.
I’ll never understand why Beltran doesn’t have that birthmark by his right ear removed. He might’ve been safe at third without it…
You talking birthmarks? You talking birthmarks?
I have one on my lt. knee the size of a dime that I consider “lucky.”
Even with that last caught stealing, Beltran is 293 for 333 (88%) lifetime on the swipe.
They jusy showed Surkamp twice in the dugout. The first time he rubbed the inside of his elbow. The second time he flexed it. Not good signs…
The sharp-eyed LOO is on duty!
6 walks in less than 5 full. 1 run. In fucking Colorado. This dude lives a charmed life…
No, he’s just a tough, unflappable young pitcher.
I’m assuming that’s a joke. Not throwing strikes and walking 6 in less than 5 isn’t unflappable it’s being a pussy who’s afraid of contact. Zito knows about that. And don’t say fucking shit about Surkamp tonight unless you can find a post of yours that predicted anything from him tonight.
I can post what I choose about him. I’ve made enough posts to make clear that I consider him a good young pitcher. You’ve been wrong about him so far, no biggie.
Why would a simple difference of opinion infuriate you? Weird.
Its just another player for you to side with for the sole purpose of arguing with someone. He sucks. There ya go, argue away….
Now that’s just silly. He was one of my first Prospects of the Day. I can’t believe you’re pissed that they’re winning this game just because you said he’d lose.
I’m a long way away from pissed. I just find it funny that you argue against Voggy all year while I support him and then you find some chump AA guy to tout and his numbers are a joke. Me-thinks you know jack fucking shit about pitching…
I’m not discussing this player with you again until you can justify his SO/BB ratio.
All i said “against” Vogelsong was that I hoped it would continue. Settle down. You’re getting “that way” again.
I could give a a shit if you want to discuss him. He sucks, fine. If they win tonight, they’ll have won all four of his starts, no one else but you couild care fucking less if he’s good or lucky..Go “Surky”!!! And to top off a sweet night so far, “Vungo” gets a lucky bloop..
That’s Mr. Mota to you Surkamp.
WTF is Cabrera’s problem with pop-ups?
Must be the same problem Whitey has with catching pitches…
Wiggy Does not know how to play RF in Coors. Clueless.
BP will have to be first rate. Rox have big bats on the bench…
Amazing throw by MDR anyway…
Keppinger will save the day…
When opportunity knocks, kick down the goddamn door.
That works
Well, Vungo provides the spark…
Pads win!
Take 3 Pill!
That’s Mr. Pill to you Street.
Back-to-back triples for Pill.
You had a better chance hitting the Lotto with those odds.
And Pill the kill (we hope)… this would be huge…
what am I seeing before my eyes? an 8th inning rally???
Double Triples. Wonder what the Vegas odds are on that feat. Bitter Pill for the Street.
first since Fred Lewis
Um. Pill. huge at bat.
#PilltheThrill
that idiot of a catcher pulled his tag…hahahaha
First we’ve scored off Street since — wait for it — 2006.
Play of the night — the month? — by Crawford.
Now that’s a great play by the Mudbug, Bochy knows when to use him.
These guys calling the game for the Rox make me think higher of Ron Fairly behind the mic.
That’s the only thing I don’t regret about missing the previous two games.
