A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The REAL Reason Behind This Winning Streak

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 18, 2011

I’ve written a quick story (to the right under The Room B link) that tells the tale of the glorious Sun Dressed Goddess and all that she’s meant to this winning streak. It would be far too easy to give credit to the players or the coaches. In fact, most of the scribes are clueless as to the REAL reason the Giants are playing winning baseball.  Yesterday, Ann Killion was on KNBR (right after Jenkins) and she noticed how the Giants didn’t start winning until all the pressure was off them and they felt as if their season was over. Jenkins said the exact same thing. Fools. All it really took was for me to anoint The Sun Dressed Goddess as the spiritual leader of Flavor Nation. From there, glory and destiny have collided into a perfect harmony and wins flow as freely as twigs on the shoulders of a gentle stream…..

Cainer going today against a guy (Rogers) who just isn’t a very good baseball pitcher. Normally, guys like that shut us down. Not today. She’s already hard at work scattering the particles into the universe and by game time will have the destiny of the day in perfect order. I’m hoping she spends a little time on this Niner game, too. 🙂

What a clutch AB from Pill. That is the type of hit this club has been looking for all year.

Great POTG picture. I completely agree that the SDG is the sole raeson for the winning streak.
    Let’s “rack” up another today!

Torres CF, Fontenot 2B, Beltran RF, Sandoval 3B, Huff 1B, Belt LF, Crawford SS, Whiteside C, Cain P

I’d woulda preferred Tony Romo in the cleanup spot myself. Cleanup aisle? Pick up on aisle 9.

The SDG is not even “readable”. Is there not a photo that can be made large enough to enjoy it?
Anyway, I don’t know if Rogers is the *type* who usually shuts them down, but *he* sure as hell hasn’t. 0-2, over 10.00 ERA in three starts. But you never know, do you? Cain would beat this guy 9 of 10 times but nobody gets to the bigs in the first place if they can’t pitch a little. Of course, I’m going with the Giants today, but I know enough about this game not to dismiss anybody.

Putting aside the Giants 7 streak… For me, the story is the D-Backs 3 game skid… anemic hitting and run scoring is just what we ordered and were delivered. Maybe they have the Padres Sept. 2010 blues.
My guess is that what they had in common with those Padres is SLC (Sudden Lack of Confidence) and that they don’t belong in the playoffs with the big boys. And at this point there is nothing Gibson can do to shack that.
The Giants on the other hand have dealt with so much adversity with players on the DL but have been able to pull together in a selfless act of teamwork which is the one ingredient that pulled them thru in 2010 to victory and seems to be forming in this stretch…
The planets are aligning for the showdown on 9/23…and if the current pattern of Giant winning and D-Back grueling loses prevail, no D-Back home field advantage for that series will help them….

All this makes for interesting theory… but I’m sticking to it!!!!

Giants have made up 4.5 games in a week and baseball folks around the country are starting to notice. Thing about baseball is that any team can beat any other team on virtually any given day. So we don’t wanna get all overconfident in the statistical mismatch. That said, Giants have a bone between their teeth right now and the Snakes and the Braves have pretty much quit hitting. Ten to go with five to make up, though, is still a pretty steep climb and its Timmy vs Kershaw on Tuesday. We know how their previous matchups have gone and LA’s ace is going for #20, so Lincecum may hafta pitch his best game of the season then.

Today is today, though, and its Matt the Horse vs Esmeralda Rogers. Giants 3-6 hitters make for a strong core to the lineup. 1-2 and 7-9 hitters are, at best, iffy. Somebody’s gotta get on base for this formula to work. As a World Series veteran, Cain should be pretty intense this afternoon. Now its a matter of pride. A win today would set all baseball to talking. After August who would have picked SF to go on a 7 game winning streak. Baseball gods have a weird sense of humor.

As an example of how well Bochy has balanced playing “kids” and vets and winning, let’s look at Huff and Pill over the last 2 weeks:
    Pill 21 AB 2 HR 6 RBI .333 BA .333 OBP 1.190 OPS
    Huff 22 AB 0 HR 4 RBI .364 BA .481 OBP .936 OBP

Isn’t the Dback rotation: Surkamp, Cain, Linecum? Will they skip Eric if they’re still alive ? I’d guess they would. Matt, Tim, Vogelsong would still be on normal rest. Or who’s for the Zitter taking Surkamp’s start?

Last year during the playoffs, especially when nay-sayers were nay-saying that the Giants got lucky or “caught lightning in a bottle”, etc., I remember thinking that even if the post-season would’ve gone on an extra month beyond Nov. 1st, no one would’ve touched them, they were such in a zone. This year, I’m wishin’ the regular season had just one extra week, as they’re in that untouchable zone again and can only hope the zone didn’t appear a week too late… I don’t think 7-2 is going to be enough; I’m with Michael’s 16-0! I know, TF, it wasn’t a prediction, but it would be so sweet and may even be necessary.
