Advancing Past the Braves. On to the NLCS!
Black Beards VS Phuckin Fillies…….
Is anyone else trippin’ out on Cody Ross? He’s probably trippin’ harder than any of us. This was “the bat flip” guy– the guy who was treading water in an utterly forgettable season in Florida. Now he’s getting interviewed by the National media and beaming with pride about “our pitching staff” and spraying champagne all over Tim Lincecum. Seriously, this guy has to be thinking he’s in a dream right now. We’ve seen Jose Guillen take his last at bat as a Giant……
How badly does Jayson Werth wish he was a Giant? He’d go to TOWN dying up that bad boy……
Stat of the year: Our starting pitchers went 29 innings and gave up 3 earned runs…..
Along with the rest of you, I’m bummed we have to bottle all this up until Saturday but it’s probably best for our team– rest for Buster, our young arms and our old legs is just what we need night now…….
Anyone know what the weather is usually like in Philly in the middle of Autumn?
Finally, a HUGE congrats to KEVIN who won Twinfan’s computer-give-away contest. How many computers have you given away twin, 5? We don’t say it enough, but it really is an unbelievably good-vibe thing for the blog and the team to have you offering up these great prizes throughout the year. And you guys should know that he came to me with the idea of contests, I never asked him to do it. He spends his time and money building these systems and gets nothing from me for doing it. There’s a word beyond generous for that, I just can’t think of it right now ![]()
It’s cool to see all the posters that kicked out of the woodwork in the threads leading up to the championship. Well, except wsw.
It looks like there had been a war of words in Flapville during our run for the Gold. Well, what do you expect from a bunch of Flapfucks?
Looking forward to tomorrow’s thread, can’t wait to see how this fight with Philly turns out.
The suspense is killing me!
Actually, I think I gave away about 8 systems. I would like to have done more this year- but it’s rough sledding with one hand- and the wrong one at that. I did get something from it- well, I went into a lot of it before..but a pretty cool benefit was just imagining the winners wondering why I would do it. I hope everyone knows by now that there was no ulterior motive beyond making both of us feel good..
If I haven’t thanked you enough, Twin. Thanks. I couldn’t even win a contest.
It was a pity PC . . .
I wasn’t looking for more thanks, Chuck. Just any daughters of legal age 😉
Hey now . . . if you had money, I might take you up on that. These multiple school loans are killers . . .
No thoughts on a possible Smith/Rodgers playoff duel?( Link to the right) What was once unthinkable is no longer beynd the realm. In 2009 was one of Sing/Rayes most revolting game plans- Green Bay pulled out to a big lead as Smith and the offense was kept under wraps, passing just 7 times in the first half… Alex almost pullled out a win after they were forced to open it up in the second half…
Interesting reading the Boston Globe sotry on the collapse of the Red Sox….

Most surprising is to rea dhow the the rest of the clubhouse does not like Ellsbury. So why not throw this out there for Twin to piss on…who here would deal Jonathan Sanchez, Runzler, Peguero and Gary Brown for Ellsbury???
Intriguing thought. Plusses and minuses. No question he had an MVP caliber 2011. Power, speed, hits for average. But that’s giving away a lot. He’s arb eligible next year, free agent 2014 and his agent? Boras.
He’s apparently an asshole but then again, Huff and Burrell were apparently assholes as well and turned out not to be. The debate here should be interesting.
Sorry, someone else pissed on it first. But you forgot to add Posey.
No way do I give up all that for Ellsbury. For starters, Gary Brown could turn out to BE Ellsbury, minus those HR’s. Secondly, go look at his 2010 year. He was a total pussy who was down for most of the year with an injury that many, privately, thought he could play through. Now we hear he’s also bad in the clubhouse? Fuck that, I’d want nothing to do with him……
That was the knock on him but maybve his injury was legit and maybe the holdover from that year forced the resentment to linger rather than Ellsbury actually being a bad seed.
Plus, do the numbers lie? Gary Brown “may” turn into Ellsbury, but if you can get your hands on an Ellsbury who has shown he is here and now and solves both leadoff and CF issues, I think you at least make that call to Boston.
I think the deal I put on the table was probably undervalued for Ellsbury. It may take a better prospect than Runzler. I think Ellsbury would be a Giant star…But in all rationality with a new GM coming in, they probably are not touching Ellsbury…
I don’t want any of those “Red Sox beer swilling, don’t give a shit” pansies on my SF Giants. Nor any of the pussies that stood and said nothing to those no account chumps.
*by
But that is not Ellsbury
Even Loo would piss on that ridiculous trade. Maybe Peguero, Hembree, and see if we can off Crawford on them if the new GM is an idiot.
One of the eight here . . . I am reminded (and grateful) every time I turn on the “Speed Burner.” Metaphorically speaking, this PC may be faster than my BMW Z3 M Roadster, that does 0-60MPH in 5.2 seconds. 😉
I agree that it can’t hurt to make the call to boston. i’d try to keep brown though. but the answer is always no if you don’t ask.
They’d jump on GHead’s deal like fleas on an old cur.
Speaking of Boston, Theo Epstein is splitting Boston and heading for the Cubbies. 5 year deal, for $30 mill?
BLEEP you’re on top of things!
Guys do get traded if they’re assholes- an asshole with a couple DUIs and a domestic violence rap, that is. Every clubhouse has unliked players- they don’t get traded for that.
GH, if any of your trades ever come about, I will be your obedient servant forever…
The Red Sox Way: team “sources” are now leaking all sorts of trash on Francona: marital woes, pain killers, etc. Thanks for all the memories, Tito.
It’s pretty crazy what was going on in that clubhouse. and to see that Beckett and lackey (their 2 highest paid pitchers) were influencing a stud young gun like Lester, well, that sucks all the way around. And that doesn’t even count the bad vibes of ellsbury, Crawford and a-gone. What a fucked up scene.
Someone said francona was “taking pills”. I didn’t read that, what pills was he taking?
No info on specific pain medication he was taking . . . From ESPN article,
“. . . Francona — who left the Red Sox in a mutual decision announced Sept. 30 — has had nearly 20 surgeries on his knees and used pain medication for many years. He told the newspaper he used painkillers after knee surgery in October 2010 and used them during the season after doctors drained blood from his knee at least five times.”
Tito acknowledghed he pretty much lost the clubhouse- but what kind of men take advantage when Tito was obviously having some problems? Where were guys like Ortiz and Varitek to put the hammer down on Lackey and company? Francona was like Bochy- he treated his guys like men- and they shit all over him.
Chuck, it’s actually 20 million dollars that Epstein is getting . . . For only $20 million – $2 million more than the Cubs will pay Carlos Zambrano to go away this year – they will get five years of Epstein’s services.
Shouldn’t lackey and Beckett been part of the beat down? I mean, how could vets making 15 mil a year run off during a game and booze and play video games? Shot, fuck Francona, if I’m the owner paying all that dough out I write some sort of “red sox way” and fine their asses. Or suspend them. It’s not like they couldn’t have found aaa pitchers to put up those sept pitching numbers. But no, the sox owners bought the team headphones and gave them a party on Henry’s big boat to try to get them interested in playing. It’s really a movie waiting to happen if you think about it….
Francona had to go but it seems sort of chicken shit for Epstein to boogie instead of taking care of shit.
It was too out of control, not one man could fix all that apparently. Not 5 or 10 either, and that has to at least be the number of the men who got together to sort this out. And their big idea was “headphones and a boat trip”? Suddenly, I am not so impressed with these men in charge. And I am no longer an Epstein fan. Theo E comes across as this super sabermetrics cerebral guy, which on paper, I would love. But he’s fallen into the same money trap all these big $ GM’s have fallen into, He’s gonna fuck up the Cubs worse than they already are, in my opinion…….
I need to read a little more, but to me, Lackey is the worst. This dude scored a hilarious 5 yr 80 mil deal and he’s been abominable for them. He rode his wife having cancer a long way, getting shitloads of rope and sympathy along the way. He was a super private guy, no one really new what was going on. Now we find out that he divorces his wife and drinks beer and plays video games while his team is out there trying to win a game? What a fycking worthless piece of shit pussy john lackey is. 3 more years of that, Boston. Im telling you, there is a movie here, maybe five…
Yeah, Lackey may be the worst, but this team has veterans who have been there forever. Where the heck were they? It seems that no one gave a shit and Francona had already thrown his hands up. Papi and some other leaders should have take care of it out of respect for what Francona had done for this team..
Twin, almost all of them were *in on it.” What is Papi gonna do, he was probably a part of it. This was a team FULL of vets. And yet we see their 2 highest paid pitchers and their best pitcher were boozing eating chicken wings and playing video games on days they didn’t pitch. Ellsbury had one friend on the team (Lowrie). And their two big new FA signing (Crawford and A-GOn) were diddling their girlfriend’s on the periphery, totally detached from the team………
There were too many big money guys in on the bad side of this and I have no idea who held sway on the other side but it clearly wasn’t enough………
Hey, don’t forget, when they won the WS they were the “go getter done” guys or whatever that phrase was. They admitted taking shots of whiskey before and during games. When you win, no big deal, right?
Francona now seems like a side show guy who got lucky early on and now just looks like a man who had no control over these guys at any point in his tenure……….
Who knows what Francona brought to the table? It was all a big funny anecdote when he won the world series and it turned out later half the team bragged about taking shots before and during games. And think about it, if Roberts doesn’t do his thing then NONE of the rest of that or the next one happens. And that was 7 years ago. SEVEN YEARS AGO. Anyone can get lucky and Francona obviously got a roster filled with stud high priced players every year….
Maybe he just let them do whatever the fuck they wanted, who knows. BUt if you look at this dude’s career with Boston, from the whiskey shots to the dipshit pitcher boozing, it makes him look like a guy who managed a cheap hotel with everyone walking all over him while they broke rules and, probably, the law…….
Well, I don’t know who all was in on it , I just don’t buy that there were no men there who could have stepped in. But whatever, no one knows the whole story, I’m sure it will come out someday. I don’t particulary care except it seems that a lot of “men” took advantage of Francona’s issues. It seems they thought they’d luck into a win or two and make the postseason anyway and all would be well.
And Francona did win the WS again in 2007. Anyway, goodnight.
I know the 2 years he won it. I’m just wondering how he did it. The anecdotal stories from the first one were cute. The stories from 2011, which had an erie similarity, were not as cute. Seems to me he was a guy with a shit load of talent who let his guys do whatever they wanted to do. Worked at first, nor so much lately…
