It’s a Haiku kind of Day
I woke up to the thickest fog I’ve seen in my backyard in quite a while. No baseball news to discuss, certainly nothing Giants-related. And I didn’t have time to go-Retro before I left the house this morning (and I only have the snipping-tool on my computer at home (thank you, Twin).
WordPress sends me these extremely topical prompts for thread ideas. Here are today’s suggestions:
Need an idea for your next post?

- How do you save money?
- What other person or animal could you have been in a former life?
- If you had your own restaurant, what would it be called?
Um, I’m gonna decline these thread ideas but feel free to knock yourself out answering them if the moment strikes you. Anyway, feels like a *Haiku* morning. Maybe I’ll write one later today if I run out of things to do. It feels very dead in the baseball world right now. How many days till P/C report?
One of the best things about Facebook: it reminds me of stuff like this~~~~~
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAN DAWG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thinking of really bad GM’s seeing that the Astros fired Ed Wade. Dave Littlefield and Spec Richardson quickly come to mind.
American League West deserves them! A’s should have plenty of fun in Houston.
from mlbtr: “Agent Scott Boras has pared down Prince Fielder’s sales pitch binder but still has 70 pages worth, he tells Morosi. Morosi says Fielder’s suitors are believed to be the Cubs, Nationals, Rangers, and Mariners.”
What the Hell does Boras fill up 70 pages with?
Soul food recipes?
Meatloaf anyone?
PIE graphs.
Haiku?
Et tu?
Nope, some other guy.
If I were bidding for a Boras client, I’d start the meeting with him. His player can be there, or not. Then I’d take his binder with all that gussied up stat shit, drop it in a metal garbage pail I put on the table, poor fire starter on it, and burn it. Without saying a word. Then, I’d say: “Let’s get started”…
who the hell would read it? I’d read my own scout’s reports. Do some axing around. you’d have to have more money than sense to sign him. one hitter can not carry you. so tying up a large portion of your payroll for one guy doesn’t make much sense to me. look how well it’s turned out for the giants.
this day in baseball history:
1988:
Rich Gedman becomes the highest paid catcher in the American League when he signs a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox for $1.2 million.
Maybe Sabes will get active this weekend as the winter meetings start Sunday.
In 1961, evidently flushed with confidence after their WS victory over the Yankees, the Pittsburgh Pirates signed Bob Bailey out of Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, giving him the largest signing bonus ever paid up to that time, a reported $135,000…

Didn’t know he ever left: Rohlinger released by the Rockies. I always kinda liked Ryan, seemed to know how to play the game, just not “toolsy” enough..
Rockies are zeroing in on Roy Oswalt and have already had talks with his agent. Oswalt is in line to receive a two-year deal in the $30-million range based on what agents and executives are saying. The Rockies can afford that, though they’d like to move Ty Wigginton first . . . Well, Wigginton just got moved to the Phillies for a player to be names later.
The Rockies have NO chance to compete next year with the Giants and Diamondbacks, unless they upgrade their pitching significantly.
Couple that with holes in their outfield and infield, you can add a few more reasons they will have a difficult time keeping up in the West. The Rockies are still attempting to acquire the Braves’ Martin Prado, who would be their primary second baseman but can also play third. They also have interest in outfielder Jonny Gomes after losing out on free agent Grady Sizemore. They were led to believe by Sizemore’s agent that they finished second to the Indians.
Rohlinger is basically the same player as Matt Downs was, last guy off the bench.
Giant’s would love to have Matt as last guy off the bench now:
For the Astro’s last year: 199 AB 10 HR 41 RBI .276 AB .864 OPS

Link to the right. Who would Elway choose?
Does he have a son playing?
Urban Meyer spent the better part of last week denying he was going to be the next HC at Ohio State. So, he’s announced today at the Buckeye HC. Whatever happened to “no comment”? To prevaricate and play possum like that is just not a good look for these coaches, and these universities. And, I thought he was ill last year and quit football to be with his family? IMO, these big time coaches are trending further and further down towards politicians as far as respect goes…
“NO COMMENT!”
49er playoff note- the most serious challenger for the second best record and the bye are the Saints. Since all Saints losses are to NFC teams, the 49ers have to lose 2 more games to lose the bye and that’s if the Saints win out. So they’re good shape to grab the bye and at least one playoff game at home. But first things first- a win against the Rams and they’re in.
Obviously, the hot topic in Syracuse is the Bernie Fine scandal. Tawdry leaks. DA sniping at the police and the mayor and vice versa. ESPN trying to one-up the local press. Quite a circus. Oh. And what’s that about “innocent until proven guilty”?
That’s only true in non-socialist countries and per the (Republicans) ‘pubes, we are socialist.
Que The Internationale, socialist anthem of Soviet Union . . .
Que?
Or are you referring to Che?
As in Guevara . . .
Those accusers and the redoubtable Mrs. Fine are no prosecutors delight.. reportedly next to come forward with molestation accusations- O.J.
