A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Different Options for Glass-Chez

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 21, 2012

What’s more surprising? Joe Lacob finding out that Warrior fans don’t really, really like him or Glass Sanchez finding out he isn’t going to be ready to play second base on opening day? There are often surprises in the sports world, but neither of these should be a surprise to anyone.

What will the Giants do about the 2-bag come opening day? Glass will hit the DL the same way he has so many times before and Theriot will start at 2nd base. If RT looks like Tejada 2011 then I guess I could envision Bochy giving Burriss a try but that seems unlikely.

I would like to know if this is just Sanchez’ should not quite being ready, maybe missing by a few weeks or if this is something that is going to signal the end of his career at second base. I think that HAS to start being considered. And if that’s the case then maybe it’s time to consider a move to first base. That couldn’t be THAT difficult of a move for him, could it? Of course, I’m sure he hasn’t taken even a single grounder over there this winter. And it’s not like we have a spot for him over there, we’ve got got guys 3 deep already at first. But in terms of extending his career, I think that’s something he should consider……

The Giants will start him on the DL but I think that’s a mistake. he’s got no problems at all swinging the bat. Brett Pill seems to be about to snag a roster spot because of his coveted “right handed bat off the bench.” I’m fine with Pill and all, but wouldn’t Sanchez be a better option off the bench? He’s an infinitely more accomplished major league hitter. And if the chances of him hurting himself swinging are low (though with *Glass* there’s never anything *low* about a potential injury) I don’t see why he can’t keep re-habbing his shoulder while sitting on the bench waiting to help out in an actual game……

But maybe that’s just too obvious of an option to consider………

Plan B was always Plan A, so I am not surprised by “Glass” joining the walking wounded brigade. Not like we didn’t see this coming. Lifetime home runs of 45 . . . Uhh, dream on about first base Freddy. Also, Pill HAS PLAYED 2nd base (56 games in Fresno last year) and he makes more sense as a better option off the bench, since he actually has full use of his limbs.

By the by, Bozo and Snarkk gave a shout out to Blanco yesterday . . . great feel good story and I agree with them – I hope he nabs a roster spot (which looks likely). Dude has some wheels and can hit too.

Fruckie at first base? I’m having a real hard time seeing that. Right now, I don’t think he’s even a lock to return from the DL. He has one possible position to play in Major League baseball now, and that’s second base. If that doesn’t work out, his career is over, IMO.

for FSanchez, he is probably headed for retirement by the end of this year. I say that based on if he gets injured again during the season. Over on KNBR Kruk says that he does not think Blanco’s bat will carry over into the regular season. He says too many pitchers are out there just trying to get their timing down, testing their pitches. Not wanting to over throw in ST. He says what will keep him on the team is his speed.

  4. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on March 21, 2012 at 8:32 am

I’d say that the idea that Blanco’s bat won’t carry over to the regular season is not the kind of opinion that is likely to make Krukow the Nostradamus of MLB. The guy is hitting .436..I’m thinking Burriss and Melky won’t hit over .400 either. Silly.

excellent find and another reason to be extremely concerned about whether he will ever be able to play the field again.
OK, how about turning him into “Manny Mota.” I was surprised to see that Mota broke into the big leagues with the Giants in 1962. Loo, of course, could have told me that……

Freddy will not be kept as bench player or pinch hitter, IMO. He starts at second bbase or he’s outtta here.

If Franchez is not 100%, I would DL his ass and make him prove he can throw in Fresno, he will never play first in the majors..never knew Pill played some second base. Good info Blade. But has he played any in spring?

Throw Burriss as the starter and see if he can play., We need to think of 2013 options and if Burriss can hit .280 and field the position and throw, maybe he is a potential 2013 option before Panik is ready.

Blanco starting in right maybe? One would expect him to lead-off then, dont you think? I have not seen him at all, so leave it up to you all if that is reasonable. Pagan then hits 6th if Franchez is on the DL? Lot more question marks than I thought we wopuld have going into the season ith our lineup.

Now that my pools all seem to have tanked, I am ready for some baseball…

“I have not seen him at all, so leave it up to you all if that is reasonable.”

You’re not the Lone Ranger Peter . . . I feel the same way. I kept on seeing posts from Bozo, Snarkk, and others about “Blanco” and I’m thinking, “Fuck, another God damn flap nickname that I will have to research and decipher by going to the Giants roster and figuring out who it is.”

Fast forward to Snarkk’s post about his 9 stolen bases and I find out this is an actual player that I had forgotten we had picked up from KC.

Consequently, I place my trust in Twin, Flav, Snarkk, Chuck, etc., for accurate analysis and updates. 🙂

They tried Pill out at second in Fresno but he didn’t play it all that well (if I remember correctly). At one point this spring they said they were going to give him a little time at Third but I’m not sure if they did. Right now, there is no back-up for Panda except Font.

    • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on March 21, 2012 at 1:37 pm

  13. Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on March 21, 2012 at 12:43 pm

By the way, even though I’m a Niner fan I still think that’s a bullshit penalty the NFL laid on Payton. Even players who boast about illegal hits don’t get suspended for a year. The $500,000 fine sure, suspending the HC for a year, assistant HC for 6 games and taking away draft picks seems way to harsh to me.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on March 21, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I say the constant smirk should get him the suspension..

    • Irish Kevin's avatar irishman5574 said, on March 21, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Boasting and leaving written evidence lying around are two different things. When memos are being sent all over the front office the league cannot just turn a blind eye. If it was just the players and the DC then yeah fines for the HC would be fine.

what is bountygate? the announcers just mentioned it during the Yankees ST game on ESPN tonight

apparently Elway did not think much of Tebow, draft picks?!

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on March 21, 2012 at 1:16 pm

That’s all they would get, Edd. The trade may be nullified anyway due to some language in Tebow’s contract. He might go to StL now.

Bounty-gate is the NO Saints setting up bounties on hurting players during games. A concussion was worth $1,000, Carting a player off the field, $1,500. These were higher in the playoffs. Their LB Vilma said he’d pay $10,000 for an injury to Favre duringtheir playoff game a few years ago. This had been going on for 2 years when the GM found out about it, and told them to stop. They didn’t and the bounties continued. Someone leaked it, and there’s hell to pay for the Saints. Sean Payton was siuspended a year, NO lost 2 draft picks, and Gregg Williams (DC for ther Siants then), now the Rams DC, was suspended indefintely. There were fines and such, but I don’t know what they are. Some players will likely get suspended as well. Vilma probably the most.

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper said, on March 21, 2012 at 1:22 pm

I can’t believe the stupidity behind these bounties. Coaches involved too. Unbelievable.

I’m not saying I like the idea that a guy gets an additional 1000 if he makes a guy drool or 1500 if blood comes out his ear. These are NFL DL they are supposed to hit guys hard (and I doubt 1,000 bucks added much of an incentive to it). I don’t like illegal hits or cheap shots but your damn right I want my DL to hit the other teams QB. And, when players hit illegally multiple times and they aren’t suspended for a year and their HC doesn’t even get a fine, this seems way over the top. Might as well have suspended the team for a year (oh wait, that would be loss of revenue for the NFL)

Favre was apparently talking to Sharper during the Minn/NO playoff game a couple years ago saying what the fuck? What’s with the late hits?

They were hitting late, and going low, etc. The refs weren’t calling it either. Shouldn’t they get part of the blame?

Seems like a lot of second-guessing in there. Anybody can be a brilliant second-guesser. At the time, most considered the Huff re-signing to be an OK deal. And maybe Huff will have a better year this year anyway. Why not be a little more positive? I can’t imagine being that negative about this stuff.

A 4th and 6th rounder for Tebow, plus they throw in a 7th rounder???? I’m far from sold on the guy, but I’d do that trade in a second if I needed a QB. $5 mil bonus payable or not. Obviously, they are determined to get rid of him. I won’t be surprised if they release his ass if that is all they are requiring in trade. They must fear the mother of all QB controversies if Peyton struggles at all. I hope they work out the deal with the Jets. Tebow in NYC would be great theater.

He’s been romping and they haven’t lost a game in a long time (18 in a row i think), altho last game he only hit 6 of 18 FTs. Their girls are in too, and are led by two sophs. Best program this side of south bay.

Furd men are blowing out nevada and will hit the Garden for NIT semis, along with UW. Whether you like him or not, Dawkins has his team playing well. That game the other night that ended 92-88 in OT vs. Illinois St was fun to watch, as Furd came from 10 down in second half to tie it and then win it, led by soph Aaron Bright and frosh PG Chasson Randle who hit the game winning 3.
Wonder if any school has ever pulled off winning the NIT with one program while the other side wins the NCAA, which Furd women are fully capable of. Baylor, Kentucky and Kansas I think are only schools with both teams still left in NCAA.
Buddies of mine and me used to pick now at sweet 16—bet was who gets to Final Four, and whoever had the most in got taken out to dinner at steakhouse of their choice by the losers. Tiebreak was finals champ/score Gal I used to assist coach with beat me and her husband, and played it up forever, glass of wine, dessert the whole 9 yds., and couldn’t even finish the expensive steak she ordered.
