How Did This Happen Again?
I still don’t understand how Sandoval got fat again. It’s not like he had to travel to Club Med to find the greatest hamate bone specialist the world has ever known. He’s been HERE the entire time. He’s been in the freaking dugout waving rally towels. It’s incomprehensible to me that the Giants are just now reacting to this problem.
I understand that The Panda is an adult and needs to be accountable for his actions, etc. And after thinking it over, I now agree completely with what others said on the thread last night—don’t play him until he’s ready. Send a clear message to him and the team that you take your job seriously, act professionally or you don’t play at this level. Got it. I’m on board. Besides, we are 19-12 since he went down. It’s not like the Giants can’t win without him.
But this fine *message* that’s been sent doesn’t make up for the fact that the team remained silent while Pablo was powering through half the post game spreads game after game and did nothing about it. My God, if Bochy ever needed a reason to *flip the spread* after every game THIS was it! π π π
But even if I look past the food addiction problem that he obviously has I don’t see why the team trainer wasn’t on this guy’s ass to participate in a serious cardio program every single day that he’s been out. It’s his hand that was hurt, not his legs. If he wouldn’t listen to the trainer then Bochy and Sabean could have said “Dude, go run your stairs. NOW”. And it’s not like he ballooned up overnight. If they witnessed this happening over the course of his month on the DL then they should have said something to him way before Saturday. There should have been a plan in place the day he went down to prevent this weight gain from happening.
The team showed him a lot of faith in the off season when they game him a 3 year/18 million dollar deal. They didn’t have to do it, they could have kept going year to year during his last few arbitration years. Sandoval clearly has not reciprocated the same faith with his half assed approach to maintaining the conditioning necessary to be a professional baseball player. In hindsight, the Giants should have written something into the contract that would allow them to void it if he ever succumbed to his food addiction again. Drug addict athletes have to have to have stipulations like this written into their deals, food addicts should be treated the same way. Do any of you think there won’t be something written into Josh Hamilton’s monster deal that says if he falls off the wagon the deal is voided? Book it, that will be in there.
We all love Pablo Sandoval for what he does on the baseball field. But during the last week he taken some major blows to his personal and public image. After he signed that deal last Winter it was universally supported by everyone. Little did we know, it turned him into this guy:
He still has time to be this guy:
But to do so he better get his ass re-focused on his craft, start acting like a professional and drop the fucking weight. Again……

Oh dear. That sucks.
This “kid” has fucked up enough. Goodbye.
bummer.
Very—well—put
And that was a terrible AB from Buster to end the top of the inning
Yup. Commented already
agreed…terrible ending last two ABs to an entertaining game. As many pitches as SF made him throw, Street probably wasn’t going another inning either.
Like to give Edlefsen a Spanking.Fuck do we ever win in that shithole park for pets?
I said the other day that Edlefsen was crap and needs to go, with Hembree coming up. If he was crap then, well, I guess he’s double crap now? I don’t see what he is contributing, even with the context that he’s put in a bottom 9 position tonite which was not his usual thing. Still, it was a hold situation, which he’s supposed to do. Get Hembree up. We can use a guy that throws gas.
The guy they got in the Chris Stewart deal, Kontos, should get packed for SD..Doubt it would be Hembree, he’s struggled some.
I dunno anything about Hembree, but you have to be able to do more than throw gas, as we saw with Kashner tonite. Unless Casilla needs to go on the DL, Hembree would be down the pegging order some for RHP late game. Let him get his stuff together where he’s at, for now.
He’s gotta be better than Edlefsen for 7th inning hold duty…
Edlefsen got pushed up the ladder with Casilla’s injury- and Romo’s. He was mop up, team behind guy. Hensley was the 7th inning guy.
no argument there. I said last time he came in and got lit up I was surprised he was in there late–this one ought to end that. I still think unless they really will get the kid a lot of work it doesn’t make sense right now—and you’ve already got casilla romo hensley, so I don’t think he busts in and shoves one of them out. just my imo, tho.
Hembree is their top pitching prospect of any stripe( relief or starting), throws 97-100. But he hasn’t blown the AAA guys away and he’s considered the closer of the future, they want him when he’s ready… he says as Hembree answers the call from Sabean..
Another continuing question is Huff. I don’t see why he is on the squad. He’s doing zilch, other than getting a good situational walk the other day to drive in a run. Other than that, he looks like the old greenskeeper geezer that the golf club keeps on the payroll so he can pay rent on his shack and keep himself supplied with Bull Durham…
He’s here because they won’t commit to Belt.
I give credit to Belt. He got the sac fly off of the flame thrower when everybody else (except Theriot) was whiffing. They don’t need Huff. Commit more to Belt, and Posey can take 1B on the off days. Pill is the default RH pinch hitter and spot 1B, at least until the trade deadline gets closer. Gotta give Hector more ABs than the Zito game per week…
I didn’t say they shouldn’t commit to Belt, I think it’s time for Huff *and* Pill to get out of town. As I said the other day- Pill wanted to prove he wasn’t a AAAA hitter and he did- he’s a AAA hitter. They can cover first without either one.
The loss suxx, but gotta like the comeback. Blanco needs a blow every 7 or 8 games, and when he’s back, he’s rarin’ to go. Burriss better hope Panda takes another two weeks to rehab and drop the flab, ‘cuz Theriot has 2b in the bag now…
But I thinnk Pill wil be the one to go. Gee, this is almost like Instant Messaging.
I find it impossible to believe that spanking went out of business, BTW. Goodnight..
OK…let’s see, we DFA Huff and Burriss…what do we get in their stead, beside more replacement level guys to sit next to Pill on the end of the bench? These guys aren’t going to matter, and the less ABs they get the better (like nate waving at pitches ankle high tonite). The team’s been rolling and neither of these guys has had much to do with it.
Hector can do some things, but he makes sandoval look patient up there. More ABs he gets, avg and run production would drop precipitously, imo. A start or two a week seems plenty.
He’s still very green. His patience will improve some, maybe not a lot. But, he’s got pop when he does make contact. That’s sorely lacking up and down the daily LU…
Burriss isn’t going, IMO. It will be Pill. As to Huff, they probably won’t DFA him for the reason I gave- they want him as insurance for Belt.
Huff insurance — high premiums, no payoff…
I don’t think anybody is missing Whitey. I’m not wild about Buster playing first at all, nor Panda- but between them, maybe Hector a little bit, and whoever the glove fits, they can spell Belt- or replace him if he goes feet up.Damnit, how am I going to get some sleep if you guys keep yakking. Nice conversation, though.
Go to bed.
I am, now, after I clean up the kitchen a bit, and let the Snarkmutt out…
