A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

I’m Stepping Down From The Flap Today

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 17, 2012

I’ll make this short and sweet. Today is my last post. I guess you could say I’m retiring. Whether it’s permanent, short-term or long-term, I don’t know. I’ll decide that at another time. The reason is simple: I don’t enjoy doing this anymore.

I will keep the blog going if the following conditions are met:

10-12 Flap vets need to volunteer to be *editor’s* here at the Flap. This group will be my stable of writers and they can work it out among themselves who posts what and when. I would like to see that group get connected in an email group contact list that communicates with one another who promises to put up a new thread for the following day. It will be more organized that way and I’ll be part of the email group to oversee it and make sure it’s happening.

I want to see at least 1 new thread each day (or very close to it). In my opinion, one of the reasons this place has stayed so active is because I slap a fresh new topic up each day. It doesn’t have to be something that “wow’s the crowd” but I believe bloggers are more likely to post a thought on a fresh thread than one that has been sitting around a few days. If I’m not seeing new threads or if they turn into “Today is Wednesday, Start blogging!” I’m going to delete the site.

I’ll stay around to moderate a little and post now and then, but the site will be run and moderated, by and large, by the stable of editor’s (if one can be assembled). I will be the only one with *administrator* powers so if this doesn’t work or it starts to blow up I can come back, shut the place down, and come up with a new plan for the blog. I might get the BBOTD going again and manage that bad boy. Me likey that widget 🙂

If you want to be an *editor* and you feel like you can throw a post up every week or two (if everyone did that you’d still get a fresh thread every day) then email me at bigflavor77@gmail.com. You need to be someone I recognize as a Flap vet. And I’d like to get this stable together ASAP.

I’m not disappearing and I’m not dead so don’t get all sappy about me leaving. I’ll still be around. In what form, I don’t know yet. This place has been like a second kid to me for a long time so I don’t want to leave it without direction and I don’t want to leave without saying that I appreciate all you guys for sticking around all these years. While recognizing my bias I declare the core group of fans here to be the best group of Giants fans anywhere in the world. And I mean that. I’m happy about being able to provide the venue for all of us to connect and for this *family* to grow into what it is today. Some of you I know personally, I know that Flappers have coordinated many face-2-face visits too, and I am extremely proud to have connected Giants fans the way you’ve all connected. When I think about each of your handles, whether I know you or not, I have assigned a personality to each one of you. Each of you plays an essential role here. We are different in many ways but there can be no doubt that we all share one thing in common: a burning love for the game of baseball and for *our* San Francisco Giants. And I know that at the end of the day, no matter what is said in a thread, this group cares a lot about the group itself. I can say that without hesitating about even the slight possibility that I’m wrong………

Go Giants.

Flavor.

When’s the last time Pablo hit 2nd? I hope the plan isn’t for Bochy to have him bunt Blanco over.

Blanco RF, Sandoval 3B, Melky LF, Posey DH, Pagan CF, Belt 1B, Sanchez C, Crawford SS, Burriss 2B. Bumgarner.

You done good, Craig. Enjoy the “time off”. Father of Flapper Nation and all that. Hope a stable of editors can be assembled. I’d volunteer, but I’m too flighty. In more ways than one. Everyone here wants this to continue in some way, we’ve all said that….. so, now’s our chance to keep a good thing goin’…..

There should be lots of fights with a committee of editors. Perhaps even intrigue!

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on June 17, 2012 at 12:06 pm

Or it could be like watching a senate sub-committee on C-SPAN.
It all depends who has the floor. I yield my remaining 2 mins. to the great Flapper from the van, Nipper.

“I guess you could say I’m retiring. Whether it’s permanent, short-term or long-term, I don’t know. I’ll decide that at another time. The reason is simple: I don’t enjoy doing this anymore.”

Craig, I could tell it was becoming a grind for you and you have done the right thing. You’ve recognized what one of my favorite philosophers, Carlos Castaneda said about happiness,

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”

Personally, I feel the Flap is unique and it wont be the same without you overseeing it. Consequently, I probably wont participate anymore, even if there is a second reiteration of the Flap. In any event, my money is on you coming back – after taking a well-deserved break . . . and if that doesn’t happen, thank you for everything you did here. Go Giants!

    🙂

thanks. I think I’ve told you this: the Castaneda quote is something you posted a couple of years ago. I printed it up, with your handle and the date and time you posted it, and it hangs on a wall in my office at work. I’ve always found it very inspiring.
I suspect you’ll continue participating. The Flap is made up by all you guys. My threads/widgets etc are just the side stories…….

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 17, 2012 at 12:42 pm

Yes, I do recall you saying that and it made my day because (in a small way) I was able to share Castenada’s wisdom, whom I truly admire.

And here’s my deal: unless Flavor nixes it, I will contribute with my Page B , the posts there are always a joy. I would be not be one of the editors for Page “A” unless formally invited- and I would do it on Sunday. My E-Mail is
michael.scott2@mchsi.com. Craig and any editors can contact me to agree or not. I say Sunday not to be inflexible but because it’s the only day I never have tests, Dr. apppointments, PT, etc. Whether it’s “B” or “A”,. my posts would address the spirit, the poetry, the history of the game- others can deal with who should play second base.

Did Bochy just pinch run Christian for Buster? That’s reminiscent of the day he pulled that same stunt with NO Whitey running for Posey. It was asinine then, and it remains asinine to this day. Might as well bat Pablo 2nd and start Burriss today while you’re on a roll skipper…

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:58 pm

May as well put Pablo on a diet.

  13. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Denny, pinch running a fast runner like Christian is not at all the same. Absolutely absurd post.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Bullshit. What was absurd was Bochy’s move. Sure glad that left us with Nate in that clutch spot instead of Buster. It was an asinine move.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Melky had the clutch AB.One out he had to make contact.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:16 pm

The only way that move could had been even more asinine is if Buster held up a big card displaying Timmy’s FIP as he left the playing field.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Christian got to scoring position- there aren’t a lot oif singles that Buster scores on. Smoak robbed Hector, then Cabrera had a rare bad AB in the 9th.. Strategy was fine.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis said, on June 17, 2012 at 4:45 pm

But Bochy pinch ran for Buster while he was still on first. Christian attempted no steal. Bochy was playing station-to-station ball even AFTER Buster was lifted. It was an asinine move. Not to mention it left us w/o a backup C should something of happened to Hector.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 5:07 pm

Wrongo on everything of importance- 8 guys hit after Christian ran- and he was on second when Smoak robbed Hector- a ball Christian would have scored on-Buster? With Ichiro in right? Almost no chance . 8 guys hit and 4 reached base after Buster. Noi scoring is not on Bochy-it’s Smoak’s play and the bad AB with the bases loaded by Melky. Surely there’s a sport you understand, Denny.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen that before in a MLB game. Usually they can figure it out using the other umps clickers. I think Joe West and his crew are ready to get out of town.

  21. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Alrighty then- back to the game. Everybody has bad ABs and Melky sure earns some slack- but that was Beyond the Valley of Bad-osity- Blanco walks, Pablo walks..then Melky swings at three straight pitches..

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 17, 2012 at 6:06 pm
The flip side was Belt’s walk (4th inn or so?) He has 2 guys on and he stops swinging during the count. The last 2 balls could easily have been called strikes. Swing the damn bat. He’s got a great eye, yatta yatta, but he’s supposed to be a run producer and the chance was there in that at bat. Shit, nice wAlk but now it’s up to Hector and the bottom of a shit LU?
Dude should have been swinging that at bat not watching….
      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Belt walking is hardly as bad as Melky’s AB. Please. Melky has been fantastic, Belt is not even close, but Melky had a terrible AB when even many kinds of outs would have given us the lead- or a walk. Now would you be kind enough to answer my question and also whether I am considered one of the posters?

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on June 17, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Belt singled in front of Hector in the 8th-and Hector hit what would have driven in the go ahead if not for the great play by Smoak.

I don’t know who’s in as editors yet, but I do know the quality of writing and the quality of “thought” of the people likely to be posting. It’s no disrespect to Flavor to say that the blog will not suffer- and may improve just from having fresh views.
