Keys to the Game…(Plus Posts from Flavor and WillieD)
Flavor Note: This is what happens when one of the stable boys bails on his day. Dirt, I love ya my man! But you flaked today! Anyway, me, Chi and WillieD decided all at once to throw up a thread so I just decided to consolidate them all into one. Pick your topic or start a new one. It’s an anything goes(!) day at The Flap!
This is a freaking WILD way to start off a Sunday, eh? I’ve never felt so alive!!!!!!!

Keys to the Game:
For the Cards, one of the biggies is obviously Carpenter. He wasn’t exceptionally sharp in game 2. The Cards need a better effort from their starter.
Errors. In the games the Cards have lost, they committed errors (two in game 2). Games they won, they were error free. This may seem overly simplified, but it is the reality of the situation.
Bats – were the Cards bats silent in games 2 and 5 or was that the case because of exceptional pitching by the Giant starters? I think it was some of both.
Giants – it all starts and ends with the starters. Games 2 and 5 were wins and the starters were nails. Vogey and Zito were MONEY.
Outside of this, our 3-6 guys need to get it going. 4-8 no one is hitting over .235.
These are just a few of the things that jump out at me that could be key to the game.
What do you believe to be key…other than the final score? 😉

Ho Hum, Another Elimination Game
We are good at these.
I don’t have a feeling about what’s going to happen. I think we’ll win but who knows. I find it funny that so many people are giving this game to the Cards before it’s been played just because Chris Carpenter’s on the mound. Newsflash: It’s not 2005 anymore. I bet Carpenter still wishes it was, he would still have all of his internal body parts inside of him.
Unless we lose in some horrific fashion I can’t imagine being disappointed with the outcome of this game. I didn’t think we’d be here after we went down 0-2 to the Reds so I’m just going to appreciate the gift that the team has given me. I’ll reflect on the season after it’s over and I’ll face another Winter when the time finally comes.
But for now, we’ve got one more game.
One.
More.
Game.
I’m excited.

And if you don’t want to talk about either of the topics above there’s always WillieD’s thread to kick around:
announcers
OK so who do you want in there to replace the Fox guys?
BOO YAH!
OH YEAH! Get your WOO HOO ready Ferret.
Mujica got bohica’ed.
THREE MORE!
It’s ROMO TIME!
They didn;t even change the score on the graphic. I hate Fox.
The Riot! Although Fox damn near missed it promo-ing another of its insipid shows.
St. Louie isn’t even East Coast bias. Is there a MidWest bias?…
yeah, it’s called boredom
Close enough. Especially with these 2 clowns. Sorry Bozo.
Three more outs. It’s mystical and mysterious as to how we’ve got this far with Pence and Posey going 3 for 1,247.
Hmmm…I missed something…thought it was 3 for 1,246…
Yo Pawlie!
One…
I would put the odds of Bochy sitting Pence in Game 7 at, oh, 1,000-1…
I’d go 10,000 to 1…
I think you’re closer.
GAME SEVEN TOMORROW!!!
Tomorrows game will be the biggest in SF Giants history! Damn I wish I could be there!!!
At home.
See below….
YES!
One Day, One Game, to Live and Play Again…
V for Vogey and Victory!
I’m completely in awe of the Giants. I feel ashamed to admit it, but in my mind, I had buried them after the 4th game. My bad for doubting them.
Blade you’re not alone…I didn’t think they could comeback like they did in Cinci AGAIN…Unreal!
Wilco, I am completely discombobulated by this . . . No idea they could come back twice (regardless of what happens tomorrow).
Nice. Hope they get tmw game in.
giants are tougher than ghetto cockroaches—you cannot kill them.
Love that WillieD – “Tougher than Ghetto cockroaches!” That’s fucking priceless…
I LUV these ATT cockaroaches.
Way better than those in the Chavez Latrine…
Woo-FUCKING-Hoo!!!
Now, I have a dilemma. I get to go to the game tomorrow. However, that is a HUGE deviation from my routine, to which I attribute all of the Giants’ victories. If I go, and they lose, I will never forgive myself… What the fuck am I talking about – I’m GOING TO GAME 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is stupendous; enjoy every molecule of it
There is absolutely no dilemma. If you have a ticket to that game, you GO!!!!!!!!!! (grin)
That’s awesome! Time to turn a new leaf with a Giant deviation, and a Giant win!
Well we will know whose name to curse if they lose. 😉
Yes Sir!!! Game Over!! We will see you tomorrow tonight!! Cain and Rain,we will get it done!!!!
MOTHERFUCKERMOTHERFUCKERMOTHERFUCKERMOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
Well–I guess that says it all
Bochy’s a genius. truestory!
Wow, this team is resilient.
Different vibe than the 2010 squad, but great in it’s own way.
Scutaro’s RBI hit there in the second was the kill shot. Yep, how they’re getting this done with Posey and Pence hitting squat up there is amazing…
Vogelsong LCS MVP even if they lose tomorow? It happened to Oneflapdown in the ’87 series.
I’ll tell you what: I’m not jaded, and I can say some of this with WS victory hindsight, but there is something indefinably and infinitely satisfying and rewarding about this team. We know we want it all, but as others have said, THIS team is forever to be treasured. Please, bring it home, boys. #rallyCain #game7 Oh, I wish we could start Game 7 right now.
It’s uncanny how a few random guys will start to get hot, picking up a couple others slumping. That is a *team*
Of course these Fox fucks would show a replay of St. Louis coming back on the road last year to win and go to the World Series. What tools.
Demp was up yesterday, and we were talking about/comparing this year and 2010. And for a long time this year, I just didn’t think this team had any mojo like the 2010 squad. Wrong answer…they do. They have
Heart
Determination
Grit
They really are the epitome of a TEAM!
Very cool they got it to 7. Saw them close out the Cards in 2002. Lofton had the game winning hit in the bottom of the 8th iirc.
Here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fuck yeah!!
It’s no small thing; I see Brandon Belt heating up, ready to sizzle. Can you just imagine if Posey OR Pence do only moderately well at the plate?
I was thinking the same thing Pawlie . . . They are due and tomorrow night would be epic if they were to wake up.
magnificent…
How were those White Russians?!
Woooo to the motherfucking hoooooooooooooooooooo!!
Matt the Horse, it’s time to bring it on home.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihWhTvHVLAM
One Day, One Game…Live to Play Another Day…
THAT day is tomorrow!
Matt “The Horse” Cain – towing the rubber for Los Gigantes in game mother fucking SEVEN.
Orange and Black Baby – GO GIANTS!!!
Right now this team is rallying around “The Assassin” Marco Scurato. To a player they want him to get his 1st crack at the W/S.This team will not cave in.We got this baby,it’s ours, take no prisoners!
They are gonna smoke the Cards Ass again. And Buck and McCarver can lick each others butt cracks on the plane ride back to StLouis for the booty prize!!
I know he hasn’t been at his best for awhile, but I see absolutely zero way that Cain doesn’t win tomorrow..
Agree that Scooter’s hit was huge but but maybe even bigger was a non-hit hit- Vogie’s grounder. That could very well have been a zero run inning without it…
Nice to that the kids aren’t awed by the postseason…
Non-save situation my ass- yep, I heard Bochy say it 😉 As he did in 2010, you have a team down, you step on ’em.
Bozo getting some airtime with that channel 2 reporter,John Suzaki !!
In his full bright orange clown hair, and handing Suzaki a Mondelo Beer as well.nice touch you fucking clown!!!
kat, they obviously showed my bad side.
WOW!!!! Or if you prefer, in the little known and seldom quoted line from our very own Nipper “BURP!!!”
ESPN is creaming all over themselves with compliments about the Giants. Fuck them.
Yeah, where were they a couple of months ago. Bunch of band-wagon fucking fucks!
Hey, ESPN! Fuck you, you fucking fucks!
lol
Five elimination games have been won and hopefully, another tomorrow makes six.
One Day, One Game…To Play Another Day…
So true Chi. So true!
dave fleming just said that scutoro was pulling up the uniform panties. i suspect he meant pants. maybe that’s what has replaced the thong.
I said it above but it bears repeating….Tomorrows game will be the biggest home game in SF history…Sure they beat the Cards at home in 2002, but that was a win in game 5…Cards never had a chance….I have to give this series an edge over the Game 5 clincher against the Cubs in ’89 (my greatest game i have ever seen live) due to the miraculous comebacks we made in both the LDS and LCS this year….Anyone else disagree?
I hear ya Joe and agree, insofar as it would complete our comeback from the abyss. However, for me personally, Zito’s game for pure “I don’t fucking believe this shit is happening” was the biggest home game in SF history. Hollywood would laugh in your face, if you gave them such an improbable script.
the strangest thing is, I draw an almost complete blank on the LCS in 2002; I remember the NLDS better. But then again, I honestly have a blackout on McCovey’s lineout in 1962, when I was not quite 14. I most remember a catch by Tom Tresh of a Mays “hit.”
Yeah Joe, a first pitch from Kenny Lofton (hell, add David Bell as well), would be very appropriate.
It’s a coin toss. Zito’s game 5 because…well, because it was Zito going.
Tonight, because it was one more additional elimination game won by the Orange and Black.
Just fucking awesome!
Kruk has us winning tomorrow against Lohse (who walked 5 and gave up 7 hits against us in his last outing . . . and that’s when we weren’t hitting.).
Posey will come thru in one at bat, just like in Cinci. 4-2 win…Posey 2 run double…
Wilco game 7 in 62 series bigger..Tomorrow biggest game 7 win ever. How about that!
Done
an unfortunate back-blast from the steroid era: vogey – Steroids?
from nowhere to 180+ innings 2 years in a row, all star, two big playoff victories?
It’s the Lord’s Plan for him, so who’s to criticize?
Jack Lord?
is this a post from Floyd Landis????
Now THERE’S an obscure Tour de France biker post . . .
Kudos . . .
Snarkk said it well a few months ago- anybody in MLB is suspect, so there’s no reason to wonder about anyone in particular.
Well said, Zumie
FWIW, Scutaro is 36 . . .
Well that’s one theory but I’m going with his wife started to give him blow jobs.
i have to say, i like that answer.
I’m so calm right now it’s scary. I haven’t allowed myself to genuinely think about *what if* since we pathetically flailed away at Homer Bailey through 5 innings and sat there mid game without a hit down 0-2.
And then all of *this* happened and it’s hard to get excited about it because the fact is, if we lose tomorrow we’re in the same boat that we’d have been in had Bailey no hit us that day.
But the rush of the last couple of games has been totally world series worthy. I’ve had the chills, the *fuck yeah’s*, a few of Ewisco’s quiet “yes-es”, lots of air high fives to no one in particular and there are confirmed reports of goose bumps though I’m pinning those on Katie just cause she claimed to be cold……..
And I feel like I’m going into tomorrow’s game, weather permitting, with the same calm focus I have right now. No expectations. No assumptions. And I really think I’ll be totally fine if we lose (as long as it’s not a horrific last inning loss).
But we are 5-0 in elimination games this year and without looking that up it has to be a record across many if not all sports. If we go 6-0 I will explode. It’s not going to be pretty and I’d advise all friends and family to just look away and hope for the best. Send out the search party and they’ll get back to you with the news of what became of me……..
One.
More.
Game.
at least…..
we score we win
One Day, One Game…To Play Another Day…
By the way, Loo, if you’re teasing us and you’re trying to be dramatic it’s time to come out now. That is, if free will is within reach.
A Loo sighting would pretty much guarantee the epicness of this epicly unfolding *thing*
stay away from plate glass windows and third story balconies
excellent young college Flavor history knowledge. and hilarious.
G’night, girls. THAT was fun. (The game, the game.)
I don’t care a single whit about Voggy and what he’s doing to train himself for these performances. Unless he gets caught doing something that will shame the franchise. “Do whatever you have to do without hurting anyone else and without getting caught”. That should be written somewhere in the baseball HOF……
Zito, Voggy, Cain, maybe some rain, then the Cardinals slain, try to contain, that superior pulmonary vein, from blowing all the way to the Ukraine….(never suggested this would end well, sorry.)
A little insane in the membrane. . .
So proud of these guys. Jeff Leonard throws out the first pitch…check Vogey scoring on the double by Scutaro, sure looks like oneflapdown….
Re-posting this link re: Matt Cain, since he’s going for us tomorrow to win the Pennant.
Some incredible shit here. And, he does it so nonchalant. If he can do this, he can win the Pennant…

Click on the icon with his picture and “Mythbusters”, then click on the arrow to start the video.
Good stuff…
Pull! That was fun, thanks.
Too funny, That’s awesome.
Well, I finally got audio, but never got the video. And I’m too tired to fuck with it…
the whole household just quivering in anticipation. well, maybe it’s just me.
but i’ll be damned pissed if cain gets some early run support and coughs it up like a hairball.
really, really, yes really, pissed.
The G’s hit Lohse last time. He was shakey as hell. they just couldn’t put them together, That won’t be a problem tomorrow. Panda’s heating up, as is Belt.
Throw in a couple from Posey, and the Giants win 6-2.
from your lips (fingers?) to god’s ear.
‘night knuckleheads.
G’Night you Flappin’ MoFos…
Whoever the hell Deetroit plays, it’s like they’ve taken a month off . . .
Well, I’ve already said I think that there is no way I think they will lose this game, but in what I believe would be a fictional world where they did lose tomorrow- it’s not losing a baseball game, however “important” the game, that would sadden me as much the fact that their season would be over and the wait for pitchers and catchers to report would begin. That’s a lot what I spoke of in “B”, which was originally posted after we were eliminated from the postseason last year. The 2010 championship, what the team has done this year, what the Twinkies did in ’87 and ’91, the Bucs in 1960…all incredibly exciting, lotsa fun,But then when I think about it , there’s been about 50 years when my teams were what some would call losers. Somehow I’ve enjoyed them all anyway.
