Moving On, Nothing to See Here….
I’m not really a *tip your cap* kinda guy—after Denorfia caught that line drive hit by Torres I just exhaled a little bit and said, “Shit happens”. I don’t even fully understand what “tip your cap” means. I’m assuming it’s some kind of respect given to your opponent after you lose, but what happens if you don’t have a cap to tip? Would a salute work? A fist bump? Anyway, the breaks just did not go our way in San Diego. I have low expectations for this upcoming series, it feels like we always get swept in AZ. Maybe a few “knowing dude head nods” with strangers I pass in the street today will change my attitude. There’s nothing like a good, solid, committed, extended, genuine, *knowing dude head nod* with a fellow Giants fan……..
How ’bout those Warriors, eh? I’ve distanced myself from NBA basketball over the last several years—the game just doesn’t interest me that much anymore. Most of the time, especially as the game is nearing an end, it might as well just be a 1:1 game. But it’s pretty hard not to get geeked up a little every time Curry launches a shot. I don’t get it, I have never seen an ankle be declared sprained and yet it never looks like he’s hurt out on the court. I’m assuming they’re shooting him up with something but how long can you do that before you make it much, much worse?
Match Ups:
Tonight: Cain vs Kennedy –we never hit this dude well, tonight feels like an L
Tomorrow Night: Bum vs Cahill– get the ball in the air off Cahil and good things happen. But Bum is due for a stinker. This one feels like an L, too
Wednesday Night: Timmy vs McCarthy– high scoring, but we finally get a W.
Last year we were swept in AZ once and won 2 of 3 twice.Same thing in 2011.In 2010 we were swept in a 2 game series, swept them in a 4 game series, and took 2 of 3..
This year, if MadBum is due for a stinker, Cain is due for a gem. But they’ll both win- we take 2 of 3 minimum…
I like your optimism, Twin. Way to early to panic…but would be nice to take the series in Zona. I truly feel the Snakes will be the toughest competition in the west this year.
Even one win would be nice at this point. I feel it has more to do with the Giants than the Dbacks. If the Giants have finally been stunned out of their funk by the SD sweep and are ready to get even rather than mad, they could take two (a Giants sweep is unlikely). If the same old problems arise–big run inning for the Dbacks, mental mistakes by Giants fielders, inability to knock in go-ahead runs–well, the ghosts of the old New York Knickerbockers could probably beat them.
Nice to see that long suffering W’s fans have something to cheer about. The team is balanced and fun to watch, and the O is full of passionate fans, who pay dearly these days for the experience. Lot to like.
Each one of these games is winnable. With Gregorius out, maybe our OF can stay more focused, we just played AZ and we beat ourselves (IMO). If the Giants can get to Kennedy and Cahill early and stretch out the BP, that game with McCarthy could be a very high scoring one, for the Giants at least.
So Jason Collins just came out. Kwame Brown came out. So, what have we learned from this except that if you go to Stanford you are clearly gay? π
They were both on the farm at the same time. I’m just sayin’….
Good for Collins, glad he’s finally standing up. Things should start getting interesting now….
Don’t you mean Kwame Harris? Regardless, it is courageous of Collins. Good for him to be able to live his life openly.
Yes, I meant Harris
Hell Kwame Brown might as well come out too.His game sucks anyway.Total Bust!!
I don’t see this as a huge deal. Collins has been a marginal player pretty much his entire career, and this last year he barely played at all. From the look of it, he may not play anymore due to lack of skills, not GMs not liking his sexual orientation. He’s got all the money he needs. So, him coming out now seems a safer bet than had he come out 5 years ago, at least for him. Maybe that’s what is intended, a “safe” inoculation of the idea into the public, then gradual coming out of more and more high profile players. When a higher profile guy comes out in his prime, then we’ll see where the country is really at. The haters and Bible thumpers are going to do their thing, regardless of who it is that comes out, but those groups are gradually going to subside over the next generation or two. The under 35 crowd largely doesn’t give an S one way or another about homosexuality, and that shows where the future is headed — in the right direction…
Kennedy, in 9 career starts vs. the Gyros, is 5-0 with a slightly over 2 ERA. The Phoenix ballpark (who is name sponsoring it now?) is a launching pad, and Cain has been throwing high “hit me’s” for most of his starts so far. I would say tonight doesn’t look real promising…
Joe Panik is lightning it up now in AA, moving past a struggling Gary Brown as their top prospect position player.
Panik gets the call IMO if Scoots continues to struggle to fill in at 2B.Giants have him waiting in the wings at 2B.Still could be this year, next year for sure.
Great post (and update AK). I like Panik a lot and thank you for the info, as the last time I looked, he was regressing (admittedly, that was last year before I went on this trip). Gary Brown still strikes out too often and I like him too, I just don’t know if he will make it here by this year. I do know that in the minors, Trout said some really good things about him.
I always like to look at the number of PAs and ABs these kids have in the minors. It’s the rare player like Will the Thrill that doesn’t need lots of ABs to figure out whether he’s a prospect or a roster filler. Brown has 1409 and 1236, respectively. Panik has 1015 and 897, with just 106 and 92 in AA. Brown is getting to the number of ABs where he should not be hitting .189 in AAA (which he is in just over 100 AAA ABs), so that is concerning, but I wouldn’t bail on him — let’s see how he does with a full AAA season. And Panik has barely seen AA pitching (he’s at .311 BA and .380 OBP so far), so I’d wait to see how AA pitching adjusts to him and how he adjusts back before we figure he’s ready to take over for Scutaro. Right now, I’d settle for figuring out if Noonan is going to be a player…
New post on my blog. More food and I mention Zumiee! Oh yeah, go Giants!
Hey, I knew my Palazzo Del Vecchio assignment from 30 years ago would come in handy someday. (grin)
Due to circumstances beyond my control (mostly), I missed all of the losing streak. I’m hoping my presence paying attention to the team tonight is just what they need to get them going. I’m glad the Dubs were available on tv in Oregon. Got to see game 2 there.
Oh BLEEP!
Susac is also hitting well in the prospect killing Eastern League. He’ll probably be the guy to replace Buster behind the plate if they decide to move Posey.
No changes tonight except Belt hitting 8th?
Mijares on bereavement leave and they call up a RH Rosario, not Runzler. Interesting.
Doofus Byrnes on KNBR, while talking to Miller, actually said a few interesting things, in between his typical yelling style that drives me bonkers. He said Cain is getting hit at something like a .360 and .400 clip on his slider and curve, or vice versa. Obviously, his breaking balls are not sharp and he’s getting pounded with them. If true, we’ll see if he changes his pitching approach to FB/Changeup mostly, or maybe show the breaking stuff early, not use them as an out pitch in a decisive count…
Gotta keep the collective foot to Kennedy’s throat. Hit him hard and hit him often.
That’s what I’m talking about. WTG Belt.
Get some more runs, Giants.
That’s it. NO more HRs (for AZ), tie game.
Fucking hell, Matt. You’re pitching BP here.
Anyone else find Krukow’s sign-stealing conspiracy theories just a bit hysterical? Cain wasn’t making good pitches that inning. imo
It was pretty funny actually. Dogging the old couple was gold.
Tie game, keep em coming Giants.
Pablo! 9 for his last 14 now?
I think it’s safe to say Matty will not be starting this year’s All-Star game.
Yup, safe.
Christ. No time to panic, but shit, Matty. Get it together.
Maybe not time to panic yet, but about two more like this, and it will be…
Pablo’s out with right elbow discomfort.
Now, that’s shocking…
at least the Dodgers are getting shellacked by the best Nepal has to offer: 10-0 and counting……
That must be the Nepal Rockies that Flav is making reference to. Too funny.
pfffftttt……………
Shit.
Seems this year for sure,we spot every team one crazy number.Pitchers have to start getting their shit together.Cain shuts him down ,then gets blasted for 3HR’s in the same inning. That’s just fucked up,should never lay fat meatballs over the plate like that…
Machi fans Goldschmidt, what’s not to like about this guy?
Nothing to dislike, but why is he 31 and has essentially been in the Mexican league and up/down in the minors since the Mesozoic period?…
a little Mesozoic humor for what ails us
At least it wasn’t the Mesentery period, although Cain’s effort was fairly well bloated…
Dig the Mesoamerican influence.
4 runs off of Kennedy is a friggin’ avalanche of runs for the Giants against him, historically. You gotta win a game like this when you score off the ace…
Noonan has a great swing. Seems like he’s either getting a hit or roping one right to a defender so far this year.
Just don’t know about Pence. Having some Rowand flashbacks again.
In ST and early in the season, he was going with the pitch to RF and CF, nice. Now he’s back to the roll over swing again. Has to work on that…
I hate to see the Giants jacking around here early in the season while the Dodgers are circling the commode at the same time. They’re going to go out and get some replacement talent for the injuries, they shouldn’t be this bad for too much longer…
Come on Belt, you have count leverage.
Use it, hit your pitch or take a walk for an RBI…
Yep, nice AB. That’s a major league AB right there, hit right back up the middle…
Belt!!!
Atta boy Belt.
Brandon Fucking Belt
Crap, anytime we got 6 runs in one game in 2010, we could’ve rolled 3 over and won a doubleheader…
snarkk, did you get blocked @ the comical?
Yep, I was irate at a few bloggers about a month ago who were ripping on that young girl in the foothills that had been killed by a lion earlier in the day. They had her figured out within an hour as a nutjob, self-loathing, hypochondriac, airhead, in need of psycho help and all sorts of other vile things. I kept calling people on it how bad that was when no facts were known, and of course, it turned out I was right. It was a freekin accident. None took back the instant vitriol, of course, but one of them must have flagged me, and the idiots in Canada or wherever they are wiped me off. I did not use profanity. Just dogged enthusiasm. I’m back under a new moniker, but w/out my friendly dog. He may arise again sometime…
Morons run that place.. You were probably targeted because of your political views.. It’s been happening there a lot lately — I’ve had 5 friends (who I keep up with on facebook) who were all blocked within a week of each other because they weren’t down with the TP. . Add in the goofballs running around with dozens of accounts each and honest folks who CAN stand on their own two feet with one account don’t stand a chance.
Yep, I’ve notice lots of crazies coming onto virtually every topic now. If the topic is why the sky is blue, they will argue the scientific explanation and somehow weave Obama or Pelosi into it. A lot of these have to be paid trolls, I’m guessing. You can’t state known facts or link to anything to support your position. I’ve gone onto the WaPo a lot lately. It’s more balanced in the blogs, but you get a lot of whacko southerners posting there. The usual, like Obama funded the Boston Terrorists secretly, and the security that was already at the finish line was more than normal = gov’t conspiracy to take away more of our rights, and guns, etc etc. The talking points of these dimwits are well known and repeated ad nauseum, and of course, “Benghazi” is at the root of everything evil…
After the game, Kruk’s going to the Clubhouse to massage Panda’s elbow and move that (those) bone chip(s) into a better spot. Like down into his ass where they’ll get lost and won’t bother anything…
That’s gross–and yet curiously funny
I’m just making fun of Kruk, he seems to think this elbow thing is no biggie, just manipulate it a little. Last May 2, essentially a year ago, Panda broke his other hamate bone — and the surgery was in Arizona…
Krukow to Panda…It’s all about the elbow slot/shit I meant arm slot big boy.
Did Kuip just say that last pitch was on the down low?
Get some MoO runs here. (Mutual of Omaha).
Marco.
Mets scored in the top of the 15th. Can’t explain why, but I have a perverse wish that the Marlins tie it and the game continues into a 37-or-so-inning match that ends at 6:05 a.m.
Well, Marlins tied it. Since the Mets’ pen is dreadful, it ends here.
If Panda can’t go for awhile, does Scuts go to 3rd and Noonan to 2nd? That would seem the logical move…
Scutaro is not a third baseman, in my view. Arias anyone?
I knew I forgot somebody. AARP does keep sending those letters. Yeah, that would work, too. But, Noonan’s been hitting like a houseafire…
AARP — I heard — even lets your spouse and kids join once you do.
My older Snarkette IS mature for her age…
Bring up Panik to play 2nd.Noonan to 3rd splitting time with Scoots. Why not get a taste of the future with Mudbug and Panik.
Kat, there’d be a snowball’s chance Panik would get near the 25 man now, don’t you think? That’s emergency territory, and they might blow an option, I think, if he went back down. He’s had only about 100 ABs in AA. Bringing up Panik now would be Will Clark territory (well, not really, but you get the idea)…
Make em pay Hunter, make em pay.
Or not.
OK. Buckled up. Air bags ready. Let’s wrap it up.
Gotta have some confidence when your closer looks like a young, sexy Fidel Castro
haha!
Those major league hitters *always* make you pay for a mistake.
#Romosexual [I don’t even know what i mean by that.]
HAHAHAHA
Manlove my friend, manlove
each batter started with an 0-1 with Romo
Veddy cool
BALLGAME
Kennedy – Nothing!
Ballgame. Nice to snap the 5 game skid. Cheers!
Nice job, Romo. He shut it down. When he’s on, he doesn’t mess around for 30 pitches like the Beard used to do…
True. Blood pressure in check with Romo. Even when he (rarely) blows it–no blood pressure issues
G’night, girls.
WHAT’R WE SPOZED TO DO YA MORON?
Small crowd in Arizona
Pathetic
Although–they *did* lose
uhm….
BWAHAHAHAAHHA
Goodnight, gentlemen (question mark)
Good night, and good night to that 5-game losing streak. Onward, upward. Is Belt going to move up in the LU now?…
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz
With a view of Niagara that nobody has
And on a clear day, you can see Alcatraz
You can learn a lot from Lydia
The Kathmandu Rockheads will come back to earth, it’s nice to have a team in front of us that don’t need to be worried about…
Nice game tonight.
βSandoval just had an elbow flareup, same issue as the spring. Bochy said he feels better, could miss just a day.β
Kruk’s massage at work? That was quick.
Panda “could” miss MORE than a day, too…
Well, yeah he could. You always seem to hope it wil go that way. You seem more interested in the medical staff being liars and/or being wrong than anything else.
I hope Panda’s elbow gets fixed. So, this won’t keep happening…
When the Giants win, the feel good stories come out to fly –

Arsema Tesfai, a seventh-grade student at Chicago’s St. Thomas of Canterbury School and “2013 Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life” essay contest winner, was honored before Monday’s Cubs game.
Sharon Robinson, an author and the daughter of Jackie Robinson, took part in the ceremonies.
Tesfai’s essay recounted her determination to overcome her grief and sadness after her brother, Filmon, was fatally shot. He was the victim of a drive-by shooting two days before he was to attend the University of Illinois on a scholarship.
The essay contest asks students in grades four through nine to write about barriers or obstacles they have faced or are still facing in their lives, and how they overcame those obstacles using the values demonstrated by Jackie Robinson: commitment, citizenship, courage, determination, excellence, justice, persistence, teamwork, and integrity.
Nearly 20,000 essays were submitted, and Tesfai was a first-prize winner.
My man Belt
Sandoval unglued . . . and now re-injured (damn)
white shark – scooter – ROMO
Snakes snookered succinctly
Well I didn’t get the chance to be that “stranger you pass on the street” but perhaps winning the first two games against the D-Backs will be enough to change your attitude. I enjoyed the games in San Diego regardless of the sweep because Petco is SF Giants fan friendly. Chase Field is not.
Like you my taste for away games in Phoenix was soured on opening day last season and became more unpalatable as we were swept in that series. My unfortunate relocation to Yuma in 2011 has few perks. Petco, Chase & Scottsdale all within traveling distance have been my life line to my team. The brutal beatings I have suffered through at Chase (along with the rude AZ fans) make me hesitant to try again.
I am now feeling regrets that I didn’t leave San Diego after Sunday’s game, drive right through Yuma and continue on to Phoenix where I could have enjoyed some payback.
I too am getting bitchy from all the focus on basketball even though I am pleased for the Warriors it is after all baseball season!
