A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

What the !#%%&!@?>>?! Is The Monty Show?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 24, 2013

I tuned in to KNBR on my way to work this morning expecting to hear Murph and Mac doing their show from Hawaii but instead I had to listen to someone named “Monty” who apparently has a *show*. At first I thought it was some syndicated thing acting as a plug- in for Murph and Mac who are probably on their way home.

But then he interviewed Krukow so it’s obviously a local guy. Has anyone ever heard him?

He can’t stop name dropping his show and he shouted out his twitter handle twice in a 15 minute span. He was very deliberately talking to the listeners about the 5th starter hole and he was doing it in a way that felt like he was educating us, like we haven’t ever thought about the possibilities of Voggy’s replacement. It was hilarious.

I am a big Jim Kozimor fan and don’t understand why he doesn’t get a regular show on KNBR. Β He’s witty, funny, seems to understand sports across the board….Maybe he’s in Hawaii with everyone else?

The Monty Show needs to be hit high and deep to left…..outtttaaa hereeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard this guy a couple of times. He seems to pick-up a broadcast here and there. Maybe with it being Memorial Day this weekend, Murph and Mac are enjoying and extended weekend. Anyway, yeah…I have not been impressed with this dildo. Come on KNBR…you can do a hell of a lot better than that.

Went back to read the late comments on yesterday’s thread. Regarding Kickham, here’s his final line from last night in a 4-1 Griz win:

    6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.

    YTD: 3-4, 10 games, 10 started, 54 IP, 58 H, 32 R, 26 ER, 4 HR, 22 BB, 54 Ks, 4.33 ERA, 1.48 WHIP.

I hope (like most here) that they bring the kid up and see what he’s got. (I prefer to see Gaudin in the pen.)

Also had seen the article that Chico shared on Donnie TT. Well, if he is not trying to get his ass canned (Michael said he had heard that somewhere), this sure won’t hurt the cause, but I do feel all of his venting is justified.

All of that talent and the Bums absolutely fricking SUCK. I just love seeing them in the cellar.

Would be shocked if the kid doesn’t get the call up now. But maybe they think he still has a hole in his delivery. πŸ˜‰

I don’t like Kozimor at all, different strokes, no biggie. But he’s with Comcast, isn’t he? Why would he get a KNBR show?
As to the 5th starter, it would seem to be down to Gaudin and Kickham, with Loux getting rocked Wednesday night. You have to like “Keecky” (that’s for Chuckie) because you know that he and Loux had to think their outings might determine who went up. And the kid had a good outing. If Mike does come up, who goes down? If it’s a pitcher, Kontos is suddenly vulnerable, Machi has moved ahead of him. It’s George or Rosario, IMO. If they keep 13 pitcher. does Pill go back down yet again? Could there be multiple moves? Some Friday morning tidbits to chew on if you’re out of Danish..

He’s done several fill-in Knbr shows (usually in Saturday).

I’m not a huge Kozimor fan, either.

If Kickham comes up, I would think it would be Rosario who goes down (although George has certainly struggled in his last four or so outings). With the off day yesterday, the pen should be in good shape, so my guess is Bochy would prefer the extra player on the bench, but hell, Pill could get sent down yet again. I just finished my breakfast burrito, but I’m still a bit hungry, so will continue to chew on this for now.

Congrats to Rags on his induction into the Bay Area Sports HOF yesterday.

Flav, I think Mattingly comes out of this smelling like a rose and gets another managerial gig sometime down the road. “Meh” regarding him taking a coaching job . . . After the circus in LA, he’ll want a break.

I just read this in a FL article, “If you’d rather wait for the next big-name pitching prospect to get the call, maybe Zack Wheeler is of interest. According to the New York Post, Wheeler will likely join the Mets after 2-3 more Triple-A starts. Wheeler opened the year as MLB.com’s No. 8 prospect; he was the jewel of the Carlos Beltran trade back in July of 2011. His 3.91 ERA isn’t anything special (even in the PCL), but note the 49 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. He’s going to miss bats at any level, and the NL East is the most pitcher-friendly division in baseball this year.”

Beltran may continue to haunt us.

Insofar as what to do about the hole in our rotation (Voggie), the Giants have three off days in the first third of June, so there’s no urgency to figure this out immediately. Giving credit where credit is due – I believe Z said this as well.

Jeremy Affeldt on seeing Melky for the first time since he ran away and hid last year:

“For me, it didn’t bother me. When you see him . . . I gave him a hug in the weight room. I said, ‘Is it good.’ He said, ‘It’s great, man.’ Then we walked away,” said Affeldt. “It might have been more awkward for him than it was for us. The reality is that we were out there trying to win a game.”

Does this sort of attitude among the players mean that steroid are still VERY VERY prevalent in the locker rooms? I’d say yes.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 24, 2013 at 11:37 am

      Let’s see.
      Melky:
I do testosterone and/or HGH, my performance goes up, if nobody finds out, I get a huge, LT deal in the scores of millions, then next season I stop doing the crap and collect my checks, laughing.
Or, I do the stuff, I get caught, lose 50 games of payroll on a chump deal, but then I get a 2 year sweet deal for $16 million anyway.
      Colon:
I get caught, Billy Beane says “whatever”, I do my 50 games, he gives me $3 million next year for my broken down arm.
Why wouldn’t PEDs still be very prevalent?…

Speaking of radio, I have satellite XM radio now, and it’s pretty cool to have the choice of all the games on radio while driving, but a lot of the call-in sports shows just aren’t all that good. And it seems like half the callers sound like Joe Pesci for some reason.
Lots of great choices for music channels, and other stuff, too.

And lots of good CDs released this year. 4 of my favorites are Emmylou Harris’s and Rodney Crowell’s duet album, Patty Griffin’s new one, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks released her first solo album, and Steve Earle’s new one is very good, also.

Monty is the shortening of the dude’s last name. He’s a recent addition to KNBR doing the intra-hour sports score updates. And, a cheap fill in when the crew is short. Cumulus doesn’t spend a lot of money, so this is what you get on sportstalk. Kozimor? Ugh. Sounds like a guy on two cans of Red Bull, shooting out all sorts of stuff to see if anything sticks. And, KNBR is now on CBS Sportsradionet, marginally better IMO than ESPN. At night, after 10 they have that dude Ferrall on CBS, he was out here in SF local radio for a while some years ago. Obama turned out to be just like the rest. Catering to the status quo. I think he tried in the beginning, but his own party was scared of its own shadow and thus wouldn’t even support him when they had the super majority. They got their fucking asses kicked in the mid-term elections anyway. Morons.

The one thing you have to give the republicans is they (used to) march to the party line come hell or high water. Now they are fractured amidst the teabaggers and old guard. Fox News ended up fucking over the party it was trying to help by throwing its media might at the tea party. Now they are barely a regional party. Fragmented and looking more racist and out of touch all the time.

It sounds like quite a few of you don’t follow other teams and players . . . All cool. However, for the fantasy league guys, I am really cracking up (and disappointed) with regard to Mike Moustakas this season. This kid has been labeled can’t miss his entire career. This season, Moustakas, who hit .242 last year, lowered his strikeout rate and raised his walk rate. The result? A .180 batting average, .561 OPS, and the wrath of many a Fantasy owner, including myself. I had him in two leagues and dropped him from both.

I love this excerpt from a CBS article . . . “His performance does have a silver lining, as it eventually led to an awesome Ned Yost rant in response to questions about Moustakas’ job, which included the epic line, “Maybe when we get home, I can go to the third base tree and pick another third baseman.” πŸ™‚

I’d hardly call Obama “just like all the rest”, IMO he’s suffered the reverse of what the Republicans do now- a vision that has national appeal in the general elections but dies in the primaries. The conservative Democrats bailed on him when the party had the majority and now the left wing of the party is pissed that he’s tried to reach across the aisle.Sometimes lost in the euphoria of the 2008 victories was that the House was conservative even though the Demopcrats had the majority. The fucking shame is that the IRS just didn’t just delay tax exempt status to those scam outfits but that they didn’t tax their asses into the Boston harbor.I consider Tea Party people and their advocates to be traitors as their only goal to destroy our government from within. And many of these bogus organizations out to ” make America a better place” are getting a free ride to do it (destroy government) ..

Craig- Stix and I disagreed on Bochy- he’s become a total “Bonehead” guy.But if he’s said I drove him off, he’s full of snowballs. He had a problem with the computer he won. Being a self confessed PC dummy, he could’nt resolve it or even explain what was wrong- so I had him return it. Other than being cosmetically damaged because he didn’t pack it properly, there was nothing wrong with it. But I built him a new one anyway. Then he said there was something with that one. So I sent him a check to cover shipping ( which he never cashed) and offered to send him something else, a laptop, whatever- something he might be able to understand ( he was a Apple guy). Since then I haven’t heard anything. As even Steve will admit, I will help with any problems ( which I have ZERO obligation to do) .

Just back from the Megabus to and from NYC ($59.80 r/t) to sue Digitature LLC for $848+ in royalties from BASEBALL’S STARRY NIGHT. They did not appear; I won a judgment. It was like “Night Court.” Afterward, on the spur of the moment, I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a “thrill.” I called Flavor (Magnus) from the bridge. Or maybe I just texted.

Didn’t take my laptop with me on the trip. I don’t have a smartphone, or at least not on connected to the Internet. I felt — slightly empty, but FREE. Even in court, people were told to shut phones but there they were, sliding and thumbing, ostensibly mostly Facebook.

Catching up on yesterday’s thread: Of course, Willie Mays was the Giant I missed most. I was glad he went to the Mets. At least it made sense sentimentally. I’ve never reflected on this — and need to add it to the book in progress — but I actually got to see Mays more when he was traded. Still, it was a sad ending. Flavor’s horse analogy proves helpful for me in that regard.

And why are they saying Casilla will be out a long time?

(For the record, I applaud Twin’s 5:23pm post. The IRS story is being presented only one way, and the administration has caved to that angle. The IRS was actually doing something Congress mandated it to do, and before I know more [unlike john Boehner] I cannot form a conclusion, certainly not enough to condemn it outright.)

With Lincecum, a good chance they will be behind early. Half of his starts he’s given up 3 runs or more by the 3rd.
Thus, he’s given up 21 of his 30 runs in the first 3 innings.

Flav, you mentioned how much you like Josh Rutledge and for the life of me, I couldn’t remember who the hell this kid was . . . Fast forward watching a couple of Rockies games since I got back from my trip, it hit me that this was the rookie they brought up last year when Tulo got injured. He played well last year and was doing relatively well this year as well.

However, 2nd isn’t his natural position and he was sent down earlier this week because he was poor defensively at second base – four errors since April 24 and issues with his footwork on double plays – where this other kid, LeMahieu did his best work for the Rockies last year. Rutledge will be back eventually, but the fact that the Rocks are playing well, meant he was going to get a wake-up call and a venue to improve out of the spotlight’s glare, i.e., Triple A.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 24, 2013 at 8:03 pm

Yes, he was one of my few misfires this year. I’m keeping him in the NFBC, he’ll be back.
Arenado is also a guy I think is gonna go off for Col. We’ll see, he could follow in Rut’s footsteps

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 24, 2013 at 8:12 pm

Oh, he’ll be back . . . book it. Rockies would have let him learn on the job, except that they are in the middle of a division race (which they didn’t expect, nor I). In any event, he is someone to stash on your FL team if you have room, especially since 2nd base in FL leagues are hard to fill positions.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 24, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Well, Rut was scoring a lot of runs, on pace for about 15hr/15sb for the year. That’s fantastic for a second baseman.
But his ba sucked as did his obp.
He’s a good hitter, his defense is suspect, I hope he comes back soon

Too late now . . . Rocks replaced their 75 pitch limit with a 90-100 pitch limit (seriously). It was a compromise after Tracy left and as a parting shot, publicized the lunacy of the 75 pitch limit. I think Chatwood got 88 pitches. Garland, one of their pitchers – has complained about it, but apparently was told to put a sock in it and hasn’t complained since.

Lincecum didn’t pitch terribly bad, just very inconsistent and it hurt when he spotted them the 2 runs in the 1st. Weird line of 7 innings, 7 hits, 2 BB, 4 earned runs, and 8 SOs. Some good, some bad. Offense couldn’t get off the dime against Chatwood and made him look like All World. Go figure . . .

  58. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 24, 2013 at 10:02 pm

Well, Tim ain’t the only one but when there’s any kind of problem behind him, he gives some shit up. 2 in the 1st and 1 on the 4th came off errors. He still doesn’t seem to be able to hold his concentration through a whole game.

  59. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 said, on May 24, 2013 at 10:06 pm

Bad and average pitchers do pitch good games. No biggie…
Chuck: Zito hasn’t won a game in over a month. He does usually pitch well against the Sherps, though.

  60. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 24, 2013 at 10:14 pm

I still maintain that the Rockies aren’t for real. The pitching staff – even with “Shitwood” – is smoke and mirrors. Their closer, Betancourt, may be going to the DL. That’s big if they lose him for any extended period of time. The Denver Post also doesn’t believe this is for real and is urging the team to trade for a starter (Garza of Chicago):

    http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_23303984/mark-kiszla-im-pitching-trade-help-rockies-rotation

I will be surprised if they are ahead of the Padres by the All Star break. Seriously.

If you think I’m trashing the Sherpas, here is what Keith Law and a few other prognosticators said about their chances this year:

i don’t know about anybody else, but I couldn’t care less if you’re trashing the Sherpas. I picked them for last in the West. Trash away, you’re right. They suck.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 24, 2013 at 10:52 pm

Twin, as you are aware, the pitching staff is made up of 5s . . . They really don’t even have what would be considered a 4 on most teams. Consequently, in my mind – it’s a matter of time before the pitching self-destructs. Right now they are strong, but playing at Coors will wear them out soon enough. Meanwhile, the hitters will also be worn down from playing there as well, albeit, their stats will take the hit on the road, not at home. I am quite confident that my prediction will come to pass by the end of the year, but more likely before the All Star game. Flav is wrong about them . . . and if it turns out that he is right, I’ll be the first to give him props. ‘Nite all
