Battle of the *Used to Be’s*
This is really a fascinating 2 game series vs Toronto if you just look at the pitching match ups. Tonight it’s Josh Johnson vs Timmy. JJ was 15-5 in 2009 and then led the league with a 2.30 ERA in 2010. Alas, he couldn’t keep his arm healthy. If I’m not mistaken, he took the *rest-route* instead of surgery. Anyway, if this were 2009 you’d be seeing a real showdown……
Dickey goes against Zito on Wednesday. Dickey is probably the weirdest pitching phenomenon to literally come out of nowhere only to flame out nearly as fast as he arrived. Last year, at age 37 and after pitching since 2001, he won 20 games and the NL Cy Young. I watched a couple of his games last year and was like “how has he not been doing this since the beginning of his career?” Last year he had an ERA of 2.73. This year it’s 5.18. Has it all been due to the move to the big, bad AL East? He’s had a couple of nagging injuries but nothing that would explain the drop off from last year. Although nothing really explained last year so who knows what’s going on with him.
Barry Zito pitching at ATT is clearly the most likely pitcher of the four to pitch a great game in this series. Although I do think Dickey getting back to an NL park might energize him a bit. JJ is +120 to get injured before the 4th inning. And Lincecum will do the things he normally does to *buffalo* his coaches.
And The Melkman returns to SF. How will he be received? My guess is that he’ll get a nice, polite applause. He contributed to last year’s title. We won the World Series and he’s moved on to what he was before he took steroids: a journeyman outfielder. I don’t wish him well but I’m not pissed off at him the way I was last year. Time to let all that go…….
Yeah, Johnson was a complete bust last year. I had him on one of my FL teams last year and again, this year.
In the muddled mind of George Bush, his quote is quite apt regarding Johnson, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee – I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee – that says, fool me once, shame on – shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again.”
š
Screwy year so far. Bad as he’s been, Lincecum still has a better ERA than Cain, which is hard to believe. Scutaro is hitting just about like last year tho his D is awful. The two teams that killed us on the infamous road trip, Jays and Brewers, are combined 23 games under .500 and dead last in each division. At one point our vaunted offense couldn’t score for a couple games against the Sherpas pitching staff.
Our middle inning long guy throws a 6 inning gem vs. the team that had smoked our two top starters the day before, in their yard. None of above makes any sense to me whatsoever, but, Eric Karros (who rarely makes any sense at all) said to Flems Giants SPs should not be counted out to get back on track. Hope he is eventually proven right and the trickster coyote (or whatever) stops bedeviling the SPs.
Man, how ’bout the Astros sweeping the Angels. Scioscia should get canned just for that.
Preceded by 3 of 4 of against the Sherpas, including a 2 game sweep in the Rockhead’s mountain aerie retreat…
I think it’s funny that people are trippin’ on Scutaro’s 9 errors in May suggesting it’s all due to his back. Um, he hit .420 in May. His back is fine.
Hitting and fielding are very different activities. He’s not getting in front of balls he used to, or back to pops he should, which is either just age, or legs, or back or all the above. Back issues impact legs and speed and agility. I think it’s not at all funny to think he still has back issues, despite his hot hitting…
Yeah but how about those freakin A’s.They can do no wrong, the hottest team in baseball.15 out their last 17.Even that dorky looking dude Feldman was voted rookie of the month hitting at a .350 clip or so.
Looks like we got a different kind of Gomez problem here, AK.

Es tut mir leyd.
All I know is it is time for some fucking pay-backs to the Jays. I agree…I think Melky will get a polite applause. To boo him would just be dumb…he did help the Giants win it last year, and he paid his dues (60 game suspension). Agree…time to move on.
I don’t think Scoot’s issue is injury-related at all. I just think the dude is not that good of a fielder. You know what is strage (and I don’t know the Saber-stats on him), but of 2B, SS, and 3B, his FP is best at 2B. Whatever.
Flav – I found your trade proposal intriguing. My club needs to score runs, so I needed a bit more time to evaluate, but saw that the offer was retracted. No big.
hey– I sent you an email
Thanks…replied.
Certainly nothing wrong with Scut’s hands or his timing at the plate—everything looks like a rocket coming off his bat. Given the way he runs these days, the GIDPs are gonna happen. Freese was great at 3b.
But so was SF defense collectively on Sunday–Crawford taking a hit away from Molina, Torres with a nice grab in deep LF. Arias a nice snag and spin around throw. To me that’s gotta be a big part of picking up the SPs when they are scuffling—you get a chance to get a guy out you have to make a play. Gaudin gave up a few rockets that Giants turned into outs. If the defense plays well I think our offense can pick up the SPs , and I still think the pen is an advantage over most everyone.
Melky’s ex-teammates stepped up to make his dumb bust and backdoor escape irrelevant. If not for Pagan, Scooter, the Brandons, and the others who stepped up their games, Melky’s departure could have scotched our postseason hopes. But now he deserves silence- booing *or* applause isn’t for journeyman outfielders.
If at either game, I would probably give him a short polite applause to show my appreciation for his contributions last year. And I whole-heartedly agree with Eric…would love to see the Melk Maids again. In my book, they are welcome ANYTIME.
It would be nice to see the Melk Maids again.
I’ve always been clear that I don’t think using PEDs is wrong- my problem with Melky is that he was a dumb ass for getting caught and for not facing his teammates before he fled. But I haven’t seen much agreement with my position on using PEDs. So I’m not clear why anyone who is against PED use would appreciate the contributions he made. It’s a serious question- if one is against PED use, should the performance of a user be lauded?
I am unequivocally in your corner about this. I have always approved of PEDs administrated by the league, with buy in from the players union. The fucking cat has been out of the bag for years, they should accept it and move on. Let’s stop the farce . . . Also, I agree with the main reason you cite regarding Melky not being given applause or boos – he’s a journeyman OF and a dipshit to boot (again, for the reason you cited in regard to him getting caught and not facing his team mates). Good posts 9:07am and 10:07am.
I agree with Steve on this one.
I’m against PEDs use in the game because it’s not allowed in the game, supposedly. Which means somebody’s using when somebody else isn’t. The uneven playing field result is what bothers me about it. If Bonds is using them, and the pitcher is not, that’s not pitting skill against skill. If it’s Bonds vs. Gagne, that’s a level playing field. I’ve got nothing against PEDs from a moral perspective. If a player wants to use something to improve his strength or help him recover, that’s cool, as long as everybody else can do it without penalty. The problem overriding it all is that these drugs are illegal to distribute and use under federal law, without prescription, so the “rules” about using them in sports are a superfluous layer of regulation, under the wink and nod of the idea that players using them are NOT going to be prosecuted for using under existing law by the feds. And, I’m totally against the so-called US gov’t “war” on drugs, a huge waste of money and manpower that helps feed the stomach of the Mexican drug cartels and destruction of Mexican society…
Is it really as bad as people say to take PEDs? EPO is a drug taken to increase red blood cell production. This is illegal. High-altitude training increases red blood cell production. This is legal. Both confer an advantage to those who use it.
Painkillers and even caffeine can be classed as performance enhancing drugs in sport, yet no one would care one bit if you arrive in the office on a Monday morning with a cup of coffee or having taken a pain killer. Why is this such a big deal in sport and not other professions?
If drugs provide unfair advantage then so does your genetics. the latter though is ‘natural’ and so acceptable.
Besides, the crux of my message is that THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED AND ADMINISTERED BY THE LEAGUE. Twin can speak for himself.
Players are notorious for drinking a gallon (a lot, anyway) of caffeinated coffee before games. Kruk has said he used to do that, and that is still a “custom” going on in every clubhouse today. I wouldn’t be surprised if Pence is a caffeinator extraordinaire, though I don’t know. Since everybody in the league can drink that if they want to, I don’t have a problem with it. But, if coffee were banned for some reason, and you had to get your Columbian special brew from Juan Valdez’ cousin under the table in the ATT parking garage at midnight, then I’d be against it because not everybody in the league would have access to the coffee, IF they wanted it. I drink decaf, BTW, if I get a cup of regular at Peets by mistake, I get the shakes and feel really crappy for a few hours… š
It’s tough being a journeyman in baseball. No acclaim or very little. No All-Star appearances without the PEDs. Yeah those PEDs can be very useful to a journeyman. Just don’t get caught using.
It’s only two months into this present season. Plenty of time to fail or succeed before it’s over.
I’d boo Melky just for being the world’s biggest idiot who could have derailed the season.
Fuck him. I said at the time his suspension wouldn’t mean shit as he’d get a good deal elsewhere. Plus the fucknut got a ring.
I’d boo his ass heartily.
And, herd mentality being what it is, he’ll likely get booed.
Heartily
I didn’t get a chance to watch much of the games in Toronto, so I’m interested to see how things go tonight. Melky covered a lot of ground in LF last year, with speed; and his arm was terrific. I’m somewhat curious about whether he can still play at that level in the field.
His handling of the suspension was disgraceful. He lied in response to Baggarly’s scoop. Then he (or his handlers) tried the stupid phony-website coverup. Finally he slunk out of town like a crook.
Melky’s PED use itself doesn’t outrage me. I have to admit, however, that I wish to hell he could play so well without the juice.
If you don’t boo Bonds, who a few threads ago we were talking about what kind of monument he’ll get at ATT, it’s nonsense to boo Melky…
Apples and oranges, Snarkk. Bonds was an established HOFer when he started roiding up. Melky was a journeyman when he took the plunge.
So Bonds was our $1000 an hour hooker, and Melky was at $300. Different price, same principle…
So you don’t boo Clemens but you boo Mota chuck? I’m not following that logic.
So the AS ballots are starting to come in and it appears the Giants and Reds fans are first in stuffing the ballet box. The funniest one for me was OF. Sitting at number 11 is Blanco with 475,662 votes, Matt Kemp is at number 14 with 389,372. Damn, that even made my wallet hurt.
I find this consternation against Melky by the Giants to be weird, in an organization that was rife with PEDs use, and looked the other way. Stan Conte’s warnings to Giants management about Bonds were ignored, if not rebuffed, which basically is why Conte left. Bonds, Benard, Estalella, etc. Because after Melky got popped, and he didn’t say “Adios” personally to the players, that got a lot of ’em (not all) pissed off? Get over it. Or, he had a fake website (which they didn’t know about until after he left) — THAT pissed them off? Mota got welcomed back like a long lost cousin, and he was two time loser. WTF? If they don’t like what happened, then they should friggin’ instruct their union to agree to really strict drug testing and huge fines and suspensions, not the joke testing program and suspensions in use now. Since the players won’t agree to effective testing and effective punishments as deterrence, I say being PO’d at Melky is faux morality, and that includes Buster, who supposedly was one of those PO’d the most and went strongly to management about it. If Buster goes to his union and demands really effective drug testing, then alright, let’s hear about that…
Regulating PEDs? Seriously? No fucking way. If they do that, all the numbers and records cease to have any meaning. I’d advocate moving the fences 30′ deeper, making the basepaths,100′ instead of 90′, and move the mound back to however that works out geometrically (68′-9″?).
And do not equate this with speed, coke, or whatever stimulants players used to/still use.
Apples and nuclear bombs.
From a few weeks back, Sabes said The Beard is in LA and will likely try to showcase himself to teams after the AS break. I wish him well, but not with the Giants…
I can’t help but think Scutaro ….and pray he doesn’t get caught.
Jeff Samardzija, RHP of the Cubs is 28, has pretty good stuff, and as a starter who used to be a reliever, he doesn’t have a lot of mileage on the arm — only 423 innings pitched in MLB. His WHIP last season was 1.21, so far this season 1.10. Plus, his stats would be better at ATT than they are with half his games at Wrigley. He’s arb eligible this next off season, so maybe it wouldn’t take a lot to get him away from the Cubs…
Theo would be an idiot to let him go without getting a sweet return.
Whatever the return, it would be less than if he had a contract in hand. The Giants don’t have much to trade, so they’re either going to have to get FA pitchers, lousy guys with a few years left on bad deals, old guys like Lee with huge contract years left whose teams will have to agree to take back some of the salary, or arb eligible guys controllable, but not under contract and possibly due a big future payday…
Career stats: MLB innings pitched, batters faced, batters faced per inning.
Cain: 1611, 6643, 4.12
Tim: 1279, 5360, 4.19
Zito: 2499, 10,630, 4.25
Bum: 612, 2521, 4.12
Voggy: 730, 3211 (nic Japan), 4.40
Roy Halladay: 2721, 11,160, 4.10
Cliff Lee: 1931, 8032, 4.14
Adam Wainwright: 1162, 4800, 4.13
Felix Hernandez, 1703, 7017, 4.12
Clayton Kershaw, 1031, 4166, 4.04
Halladay is 36. He’s coming off shoulder surgery and will be a FA at the end of this year. He’ll possibly pitch late this season after rehab. Maybe he’s a guy the Giants should go after as a #4 replacement for a year or two years, lower risk deal starting in 2014, if he can still pitch, that is…
I’d have no problem giving Melky a “nice, polite applause.” He helped put the Giants in contention at 64-53, and then the team quickly and professionally shook off the shock of his suspension to band together and get on a roll all the way to the World Series. Who knows what would’ve happened had he not been caught.
As for the PEDs, I just don’t care one way or the other anymore. If baseball really wants to deal with this, then It’s up to the players themselves to fix it. And from what I can tell, there either aren’t nearly enough players — if any at all — who are willing to speak out against PEDs, or the money at stake is just too great to rock the boat — Melky’s contract with Toronto being Exhibit A.
This series with Toronto may be brief, but these are two crucial games. One way to escape from the land of mediocrity where the Giants currently reside is by beating up on the bad teams — and at 24-33 overall and 10-17 on the road, that’s what the Jays are. WillieD already mentioned the ignominy of getting swept at Milwaukee and Toronto, and it’s time to get some of that back because there aren’t very many gimmies like this the rest of the month.
I don’t care much for Ratto, but he did write a pretty compelling article today to the effect of the Giants needing to beat-up on the bad teams (like Toronto). They really need to take both games. 4-5 on the road would be somewhat a success (given the way they have played on the road to date).
Here’s the link to the Ratto article if anyone who hasn’t already read it is interested.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/forget-melky-giants-need-take-advantage-blue-jays-town
regarding the Melky thing, I never gave a shit that he took steroids. Lots of guys take them and usually, unless you’re Marvin Benard, they end up making the team better.
My biggest problem with him was that he basically made Baggs look like a fool and then never owned up to shit AND then he bailed on his teammates. But the worst thing, for me, was that he let Baggs twist in the wind and that showed zero class, IMO…….
I said essentially the same thing yesterday, that Mac and Chi said above about Toronto . . . We need these two games. If you want to categorize a couple of games as a gimme, then this would be it. After that, the rest of the month is much, much tougher. Tiny Tim needs to step up this evening and show how it’s done. If he does what he has been doing, then I’m for sticking him in the bullpen.
Blade, if Tim goes to the Pen now, who takes his place? Kickham? Who leaves the Pen to let Tim in? I could argue Cain should go to the Pen, too. The arguments that Cain has one bad inning and the rest good are FOS, IMO, because that one bad inning is a really BAAAAD inning, and he’s given up more HRs than just about anybody in the NL. I wouldn’t mind Tim going to the Pen at all, I just don’t see any way how it can be practically done…
Snarkk, this is what I wrote yesterday . . . “Interesting. According to ESPN, someone UNSUITABLE may be taking his spot if he doesnāt pitch well tomorrow . . . Per ESPN, āTim Lincecum (3-5, 5.12 ERA), who was tagged for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in his lone start versus the Blue Jays in 2007, could be pitching to remain in the rotation Tuesday. Lincecum has posted an 8.27 ERA* in losing his last three starts.ā
*Sheesh, if he can pitch to his season ERA of 5.16, he may keep his rotation spot.”
So, in answer to your question snarkk – GET ANYONE THAT CAN KEEP THEIR ERA UNDER 8.27!!!!!!!!!!
I will guarantee something here – If Tim pitches a disaster game with a 7 or higher ERA, he will go to the bullpen.
The reason Tim gets singled out is because of what he did last yr out of the pen. Cain has a 6 yr deal so he’s out. Zits sucks in relief and Vogs is a ?.
Ramirez can go to AAA with his 10.00 era.
Zito was also in the pen last weekend .This is an “:info comment”, I don’t have any particular take on it.
Well then, as I said, they should find someone to take Zito’s road starts. Which of course they won’t even though it should pretty durn easy to find a guy who can keep HIS ERA UNDER ELEVEN !!!
Seriously, it *is* a series we should sweep. Toronto onlty does one thing well on the road- eat. I expect good efforts from both bad boys. Well, I hope for that š
Let Zito go onto the DL just before each roadie…
The Melkmaids should show up tonight dressed in mourning black, with lots of cleavage…
That is a capital idea! Love a woman in black with lots of cleavage. Ball game? What the fuck you talkin’ about Willis??
goldiloquent
Well, I won’t argue whether or not PED use should be “legal” in MLB baseball, I’ve argued it with the same people before and nobbody is changing their minds. Some interesting comments today…
I will say this: there may be pause in the frequency of PED use but it will never go away. The people who make the stuff are not surrendering- there will more PEDs and more ways to disguise their use and avoid detection. Players always have and always will try to get an edge on the competition. I think that”s a fact that those on all sides of the issue can recognize. And with even utilty players being rich men, even more so today..
This would go away to a great extent if the feds would take steroids off the Schedule III drug list of the Controlled Substances Act. In substitution, there could still be some controls (say a new Class 6 set of drugs) that allowed physicians or trainers under MD supervision to dispense ‘roids for therapeutic (injury rehab) uses, injury maintenance, and limited physical conditioning purposes. It could be done, with some thought. There’d still be abuses, I should think, but at least the playing field would be more wide open and observable…
Since ‘roids and related drugs won’t be legalized soon, to me the only way to get them down to minimum usage in sports is to impose draconian penalties. First offense, 162 game suspension, nic any playoff games. Second offense: your contract is automatically voided, a new one must be negotiated, plus another 162 game suspension. Third offense: Banned for life. Use Olympic drug testing protocols, and real surprise testing under those protocols — year round, not just in season…
Which has as much chance of getting past the union as, well, whatever else has ” no chance”…
Agreed.
And, since the local US Attorney’s offices in the MLB cities apparently have no interest in prosecuting the stoopid guys that turn up dirty in testing and therefore have evidence they can subpoena for violating federal law (were Melky or ManRam charged with drug crimes by the feds? = no), then neither ownership nor the players have any incentive to change the status quo…
Not baseball related but I consider the Flap close family to me.
One of my closest friends in the world just died.
Over 30 years knowing him and his family as well as his knowing mine.Plenty of Pool parties at his house after are championship softball teams.
But I’m hurting big-time right now tearing up as I post this
Jim Holloway ..RIP..You and your wife Carol along with your 2song daughters Tara and Megan will always be in my heart.
Fuckin life can be so cruel!!!!!
Sorry to hear that Kat, hang in there.
Remember the good times, it helps…
Damn. Stay close to us this evening Kat if you can . . . A baseball game wont cure cancer, remove grief, or sadness – but it often puts a smile on my face and gets me through the day when other troubles are present. I’m really sorry for your loss my friend.
Kat, everyone is here for you, you can bet on that. I’m so sorry for your loss. As Snarkk said- remember the good times. Good friends will always be with you.
Kat, sorry to hear about your friend. Stay strong man.
RIP, Jim Holloway.
Kat – I agree…the Flap is family. So sorry to hear about your loss. Wishing you, yours, and Jim’s family and friends peace and comfort while sorting through their loss.
On a side note, my girlfriend’s brother’s name is Jim Holloway (city planner for San Clemente).
Sorry for your loss.
there will be many times in the days and months ahead where something, anything will remind you of Jim. And all the good that that friend was will be remembered.
“The reason Tim gets singled out is because of what he did last yr out of the pen. Cain has a 6 yr deal so heās out. Zits sucks in relief and Vogs is a ?.”
Agree Salty. He also gets singled out for stinking up the joint the last two years (5.16 ERA in 44 starts since 2012).
Pablo back Pagan still out.Posey and Pablo lead their positions in All-Star voting. Scooter and the Brandons are all second.Hunter Pence, Angel Pagan and Gregor Blanco are sixth, eighth and 11th among outfielders…
Posey is the leading vote getter. I say he and Panda are locks, Scooter should be in, Crawford has an outside chance, Belt and the others no way. Romo should get selected. IMO..
1. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
2. Marco Scutaro (R) 2B
3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Hunter Pence (R) RF
6. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
7. Andres Torres (S) LF
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Tim Lincecum (L) P
This thing with Pagan frosts me. If he’s that hurt, put him on the damn 15 day to start with and get another body up here. It makes no sense to be down a body on the roster for half a dozen or more games. If the med staff and trainers can’t figure out within a day or two how bad the injury is and how long it will need to heal, then something is wrong with that process. Plus, they can retroactively put him on the DL up to 10 days after the injury. This is like that guy Havlat for the Sharks that got hurt against the Kings, was out for a game or two, got replaced, then said he was OK, played for a few minutes and then begged off playing the rest of the game, meaning one line was down a player and they were shorthanded. The team was PO’d at him, they lost that game, and now he’s on their S list and going to be traded. I’m not saying Pagan is stringing anybody along, but the idea is similar, if a guy is hurt, get him healed up. Meanwhile get somebody else in here to fill the roster. We’re trying to win some damn games here, which is hard enough with 25 players, let alone 24…
110% totally agree
Right. It just does not wash that he was mysteriously hurt beforehand but had no sign of it rounding those bases. The Giants organization seems to be among the worst in managing medical issues and how they are communicated. Hire me. I can lie better than that.
Kat, sorry to hear the pain in your voice. May we lessen it, somehow.
Wow! Talk about PEDs being a topical subject. Rockies broadcast is outlining a big, big suspension coming in the next couple of weeks, which will involve some of the biggest stars of the game. Apparently, 20 plus players will be named, including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. Outside The Lines, an ESPN show brought it to light . . . http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9301536/major-league-baseball-suspend-20-players-including-alex-rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation
Expanding on the names::
“The players who might ultimately face discipline from MLB include: Rodriguez, Braun, (Melky)Cabrera, Colon, Grandal, Nelson Cruz, Francisco Cervelli, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta, Cesar Puello, Fernando Martinez, Everth Cabrera, Fautino de los Santos, Jordan Norberto and a number of players who are either identified by code names or whose names appear in other documents not obtained by “Outside the Lines.” All are on major league rosters except for Puello, a top outfield prospect for the New York Mets who is playing in Class AA Binghamton.
One player listed who will be scrutinized but possibly exonerated is the Nationals’ Gio Gonzalez, who was listed among Biogenesis clients, but two sources told ESPN the only substances he received from the clinic were legal.”
Some list. Meh. I don’t get high and mighty about the whole subject of PEDs. I find the dramatic poses entertaining. We have had guys like Giambi and Ortiz and even A-Rod “apologize” but we don’t know what for. As others have said, notably Snarkk, the Giants’ brass does not look to shiny over their past. I compare the steroids era with the real estate boom (which is happening again): everybody looked the other way when it worked. Everybody. In baseball, that means players, owners, writers, broadcasters, and FANS. Then, later, people got “religion.” Bleh.
This guy Bosch is a snake per this ESPN profile . . . http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8922161/south-florida-clinician-anthony-bosch-center-mlb-performance-enhancing-drugs-probe-had-years-work-multiple-companies
Ryan Braun attempting a “plausible” explanation of why his name is on a list identified as, “moneys owed.” Uhh huh . . . Good one Ryan.
“During the course of preparing for my successful appeal last year, my attorneys, who were previously familiar with Tony Bosch, used him as a consultant. More specifically, he answered questions about T/E ratio and possibilities of tampering with samples.
There was a dispute over compensation for Bosch’s work, which is why my lawyer and I are listed under “moneys owed” and not on any other list.
I have nothing to hide and have never had any other relationship with Bosch.
I will fully cooperate with any inquiry into this matter.
— Ryan Braun in response to Yahoo! Sports report”
I loathe Ryan Braun, and I’m not even allowed to trade him.
haha, you can trade him, you just can’t drop him!
is that foreplay? I reached rock bottom last night. ANYONE, anyone is expendable. Why, I might even trade with Blade again!!!!
Sheesh, it would be my luck to trade for Braun and the next day he’s suspended. Next . . .
What’s a guy who’s about to get suspended for the rest of the year worth on the open market? Well, go find out. I’m interested to see…….
Caught in the cookie jar?
I stopped reading after he said “my successful appeal.” Fuck that. He gets off on a complete technicality and then has the gall to use it as a way to bolster his *new* PED case issue? Fuck him.
Biogenesis. Nice name, especially for E.D. meds.
Baggs was on Koz’s new comcast show and was asked what the fans will do when Melky comes up to bat for the first time. Baggs smiled and said “Oh, they’ll boo”.
Well, I’m gonna have to see that to believe it. MY perspective is that Giants fans have moved on from all of that. We won a freaking World Series, Melky could have flipped me the bird as he left and I can still appreciate what he did for the team. Now. Not at the time it happened.
And he’s almost a pathetic figure to feel sorry for. He’s back to being what he always was sans steroids: a journeyman outfielder. The only thing that keeps me from feeling sorry for him is that he’s got a tidy 16 mil due him from the clueless Blue Jays. Seriously, what was the 2 year deal all about? What team would have offered him more than 1 year to prove himself after getting busted? Well, we now know “what team” that was…….
Damn, I love my Braun coffee grinder (which I use for peppercorns) .Should I take a stand and go with Krups?
I should have had a V-8. I’ve had these pepper corns for awhile now and I was wondering what to do with them. Good idea regarding coffee grinder (which I have).
and I love my shaver (I think that’s what I have), better than Norelco
I see the Nats just DFAed Zach Duke. Didn’t he just give us a run for our money? Check him out, Sabes.
At times last year, I idly wondered if I should feel guilty (well, not me personally) about the WS. In other words, did Melky taint it, including the NL win in the ASG (albeit it is a stupid rule for home field)? After about a nano part of a nano-milli-mini-second, I concluded, NAW. NOT AT ALL.
the reality is, there were probably 3 or 4 other players in the team last year who were juiced. Probably more. And anyone that thinks the 2010 team was clean should have their brain cleaned out. I bet half the 2010 team was PED’d
stop ruining my fantasy life; and leave my night life out of this mwahahahahahaha
BULLETIN: Speaking of the All-Star Game, I’m exchanging texts, calls, and emails with the owner of Finnerty’s to do a WORLD SERIOUS book signing, possibly the night of the All-Star Game at Citi Field. I figure Bochy will stock the team with Giants, and NYC will be crawling with Black & Orange Nation. Stay tuned.
I like the *BULLETIN* message. Made me pay attention. Made me feel like breaking news was unfolding. And the *stay tuned* will keep me coming back for more. Hell, I’m not sure I can even leave. š Good job my man!
We have a handshake, you might say. Dieter is a sterling fellow. Treats me like a brother. It’s just a matter of sorting out the date(s). C’mon down!!!
Idiot Sherpa pitching staff is balking the game away against the Reds. Too funny.
well, they gave up a run in the 7th of a 3-3 tie game. I guess you’re ready to put them in the same category as the Marlins and Astros?
Astros are definitely better than them. They dominated them, even at Yeti Field. Both Cargo and Tulo have again disappeared (they always do on the road). Seriously Flav, they suck in my opinion. It will get worse as the season goes on.
Go figure . . . I say that and Tulo goes yard. 5-4 Sherpas.
It’s beyond hilarious that you think the Astros are better than the Rockies. But whatever. I guess you think the Astros are better than the Angels since they just swept them. Come on Steve, anything can happen in a series.
I think you need to go check out the individual stats of the Astros and compare them to the Rockies and tell me they have a better team. Or go check the team stats. It really doesn’t matter, lol
“The Astros are DEFINITELY better than them”…..fantastic humor. Thanks.
Well yeah, that’s an exaggeration saying the ‘stros are better than the Sherpas. Mea culpa on that boner. However, the Rocks suck as well – it just hasn’t been reflected in their won/loss record or stats yet . . . Wait and see – they will come back down to Earth. Way down . . . If at the end of the season, they don’t, then as I said previously – I will eat crow on that prediction. Hopefully, you will man up and admit you were wrong if they do fall on their faces. We shall see . . .
Well, the good news with the Sherpas is that I picked up Rex Brothers in the Flap league and he got the save. Damn, am I a mercenary.
š
My Mets people licking their wounds. Again. This time, Bobby Parnell blows the save. Like Macdog, I ain’t that surprised. My friend Steve kept texting me, “But they swept the Yanks.” I had resisted going this route, but today I had to splash the cold water of reality on his Mr. Met face: “The Mets ain’t that good, neither are the Yankees, and that was the high point of your season, Steve.”
Shit, the Koz stream may not be working tonight. Damn.
So, I am watching ESPN Gamecast and some yellow dot named Encarnacion is circling the bases. OH OH!
Yeah, you’re lucky you didn’t see that one. It wasn’ t exactly a cheapie.
“All it has to do is go over the bag, it doesn’t have to land in fair territory.”– Mike Krukow on Lind’s line drive foul.
WTF is he talking about? If it’s a ground ball, sure, he’s right. But that was a line drive that first hit the ground WELL PAST third base. And the fact that he used the word *land* tells me he knew it was a ball that landed AFTER it passed 3rd base.
Come on Flapper Nation, help me out with an “Amen”. Did Mike Krukow really just say that a ball can go over 3rd base bag on the fly, land out of bounds and still be called a fair ball???????
AMEN Brother Flav!
thank you! I thought I might not understand a basic rule in the game. Good thing Krukow has that rule down pat. Um….Never mind.
WTG Torres.
Took a while, but I got a feed out of SE Asia (Japan I think).
So my take was that Melk got 40% boos, 60% polite clapping. Anyone else see that differently? And remember, boos are louder than polite clapping. š š š
Did he say “Thanks for the clap”?
Sounds about right. Kinda like no one wanted to bust a gut booing or clapping.
Didn’t Kruk hit more HRs than Kuip?
Sheesh, heart attack city Bautista and Encarnacion.
AK, very sorry to hear that. Shit. 4 hours later, and I didn’t post this.
Solace is where you find it. Hope we can provide a little comfort.
Sheeeeit. Don’t see that every day. I’ll take it. With a side of fries.
Well, regardless of what happens going forward, this is a quality start from Timmy. He’s been outstanding in this start. In short, I have to take back what I said about putting him in the bullpen.
you should take back what you said about the Astros *definitely* being better than the Rockies…..
No, that would be inaccurate since they took 3 of 4 from the Sherpas in interleague play. Besides, I really detest the Rockies.
Well then is Colorado better than Cinn cause they beat them tonight? Is Houston better than The Angels cause they swept them? Come on man, no one who studies all the teams and players could possibly conclude that The Astros are better than the Rockies. No one, lol. Chalk it up to a biased hatred of the team and move on.
How many Astros do you have on any of your fantasy teams?
That’s part of it – I admit it. However, I still maintain that the Rockies will fall like a Rock by the All Star game. If not then, by the end of the season, they will definitely be 10 games out (at least) of 1st place. Their pitching corps will not last Flav – no way, no how. Garland will be dropped from the rotation in 1-2 weeks maximum and they have Ray fucking Oswalt of recent Texas Ranger fame coming to the rescue? HAHAHA. If at the end of the season, I am wrong – I will admit it.
By the by, I have Veras on my Flap team. With regard to Rockies, I have Brothers on my Flap team and Tulo on another team. No other Rockies (nor would I want any of them, including Cargo).
Where they are at the all star break has zero to do with you asserting that that Astros are “definitely” better than them. As a fantasy player, how could you say that? And in the same breath crow about picking up Brothers who got the save today. Do you see how absurd that is? Shouldn’t you be trying to trade for the Astros closer instead of celebrating your pick up of the new interim Rockies closer?
Well here’s a news flash, the Astros would gladly take Car-go on their team. G’night
When the good starts outweigh the bad . . . uh, nevermind. He’s all we got.
Seven strong from Timmy. Time for the BP to shut any and all doors.
āShe would have been a good woman,ā The Misfit said, āif it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life.ā A Good Man Is Hard to Find, F. O’Connor.
Lincecum had a gun to his head tonight. The bullpen demotion talk did that. And he pitched well. Now how the hell do you ignite Cain’s inner fire?
Threaten to send his BP-throwing ass to the ‘pen is well.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Cain and Lincecum in the BP as long relievers would have to be unique on so many levels.
Flav (and correct me if I’m outta line, Blade), it has more to do with Blade’s abject hatred of the Sherpas than anything else. If he wants to say they are worse than the Stros, he can believe that in a tiny corner of his head.
Blanco smoked that one.
Chuck, you lived in Denver and you would understand better than most, how “asinine” this town is about their sport teams. Yeah, I really, really dislike the Rockies . . . The media and fans allow the team annually to get away at going low ball with regard to spending money on the team and acquiring players. Even their manager they went low ball on (Walt freaking Weiss????). Helton is still starting? Say what? He should be on the bench. It’s a joke of a franchise. Sure the Astros are a joke too, but I live here and see what they do day to day. If San
Francisco is a 10, then the Rockies are a 3 at best.
It was Carbondale (and Woody Creek, Snowmass, and Rifle for a little while) but yeah, it’s reeediculous how they gloss over and sugar-coat any moves made by the teams there.
This guy Puig is gonna be problem…
Los Cubanos — the guys who defect lately have proven themselves and are worth the chance. Aroldis Chapman, Cespedes, and apparently Puig. They grew up playing against the best.
Yeeesh. Left that shit up, Romo.
Yeah, Melky’s getting all boos
BOO!
Didn’t like that pitch either. Get it down Sergio.
Shit, Dawg, last time I looked it was 5-2 Dawgs. Now it’s 9-7 Dogs? Fuck. The Dogs is trying to battle out of last.
Puig has 2 homers. He’s beast. We haven’t heard the last of the Dogs this year.
Nice win!
There you go. Here’s to hoping Timmy can keep his head straight for a few more starts.
Romo turns out the lights. Tony sings, our pal Edd wakes up a happy man.
Night Gents, take care Kat man.
sleep tight my man; a happy day it is
Shades of 2010. Great to see Tim and Andres strutting their stuff.
Great win on a number of levels. We won using the “old” template of pitching; Torres was outstanding, and we got the first game of this short 2 game series. Nice.
Blasts from the past by Timmy and Torres — now that’s a Giants win.
And Kat, I’m very sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your friend’s family.
And amidst all the talk of baseball, PEDs, and Rocks/’Stros, Xoot comes up with a quote from Flannery O’Connor, one of my favorite writers ever. Damn, I love the Flap… š
And agree about Puig. LA is likely hoping Puig is to their team this year what Buster became to the Giants in 2010…. The Dogs will be better, I would guess. But then again… it is the Dogs….
They may play better, But the Dogs are in contract hell, and will be hard-pressed to be able to do anything about it for quite a while. Between the onerous salaries they already are choking on, and the recent rulings for the billions they owe MLB, their blank-check days are over.
Woof!
Vungo to straight away center field and that was all Timmeh needed.
How good does that feel?
tomorrow my second favor_it thing: day game!
Good job Giants!
Yeah, Timmeh!
That felt good. 3 hits, only one walk. No shame in a dinger to Encarnacion, the guy is a beast.
Maybe that’ll give him some confidence. Good dinger by Torres…
