A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Wake Up Anna, It is Time……

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 10, 2013

Dominated by Zack Wheeler, we just got swept by the Mets. The Chicago Cubs have a better record than we do. Gaudin has been feeling up random women at the ER. Matt Cain is one of, if not THE, worst starting pitcher on the staff. None of this is making any sense. I’m tired of waiting for things to change back to normal and I’m not heading out to the ledge cause I’ve still got 2 World Series trophies hypnotizing me so I’m gonna play my last, final card to do my part to turn this season around……

As you all know, we have a secret weapon. If you look to the right under the Room B tab and scroll down to the bottom you’ll know what I’m talking about. She’s been in hibernation for a few months. But last October, she reeled off 8 straight wins and a world championship for us. I brought her back this year and she spun 5 straight. She’s 13-0 as the BBOTD. Shortly after I post this thread I will thoughtfully select another picture of her and upload her to the BBOTD page (which has been dark for months now).

Anna is rested, this shouldn’t be much of a burden for her. I’ll gently nudge her, tell her *it’s time*. She’ll open her sleepy eyes, crack me a half smile, maybe nod once or twice. It’s not a knowing dude head nod–more like a slutty consensual head nod. Either way, she’ll do what we ask of her. She always does. At least she always did. Earlier this week, our old buddy San Dawg was reminded that nothing lasts forever.  Sometimes not even Nickleback can save a love lost. It’s possible that our “sure thing”, our “neighborhood bicycle”, our “slump buster”, our “midnight text mistake”….just might be done with us. Say it ain’t so, Anna……

Anna, I said before this Mets series that if the Giants didn’t win it, I’d move out on the ledge.
Not only didn’t the Giants win it, they got swept. And, not barely.
They got swept like the Mets used a huge Mets pushbroom, a Mets Zamboni. The Mets looked like a monstrous 1000 amp mega industrial-strength Transformer-like Megatron Mets ShopVac just sucking up the Giants like garbage and spitting them out, in pieces.
I am now on the ledge looking down. My head is spinning. My toes are over the ledge, and I’m rocking back and forth on my heels.
BF has blessed us by bringing you back to deal with this crisis.
My fate is in your hands. I need at least one win against the Pads to move back from oblivion.
    Do your thing, Babe…

I heard on KNBR that Gaudin’s lawyer has made a statement (I’m paraphrasing) that Gaudin was in the hospital for a renal (kidney) problem of some sort, and that he was essentially not in a condition to know what he was doing. At least, that’s what the explanation sounded like to me. No details on whether he was already admitted, or was in the ER for that, and was just wandering around somehow. The statement will probably show up online somewhere soon. Yet another crazy sign the wheels are coming off this Giants bus.

What’s next, Bochy had a sex change in Zurich a decade ago and since then has been fooling everybody with state of the art synthetic hormone goodies he got from Victor Conte?…

Yep, the jokes and insults and outrage will be going through the roof. This isn’t good. What are the Giants going to do about this? He’s one of the few starters that’s doing well, but it’s a legal situation, not an on field deal. As if this clubhouse funk needs more BS to handle. Horrible PR situation for one of the most PR driven teams in sports…

Either the Giants don’t vett their players at all or Gaudin is a liar. “Are you involved with any legal problems?” Simple question. Get in front of it. Nope. Didn’t happen.

My Googling shows the Giants signed Gaudin to a minor league deal in December 2012, before this alleged event. They purchased his minor league deal and put him on the 25 man on March 26 of this year at the end of ST, well after this event supposedly happened in late January. So, its hard to believe they didn’t know.
Statement released from Gaudin’s attorney follows, posted by John Shea of the Chron:

Complete statement on Chad Gaudin incident from his attorney, Dominic Gentile:

“On January 27, 2013, Chad Gaudin was examined in the emergency room of a local hospital while experiencing symptoms believed to be related to acute renal failure due to a condition known as rhabdomyolysis. The symptoms included confusion, dehydration and loss of orientation and/or consciousness. Although he has been accused of improperly touching another hospital patient while on the premises that night, there are differing and exonerating versions of what occurred that have been reported by eye witnesses. Mr. Gaudin denies any unlawful conduct and has been cooperating with the authorities. I am confident that this matter will be resolved in his favor and because it is pending in court there will be no further comment.”

Blade thx for posting clip of the wicked man on previous thread. He’s one of my heroes. I really dug that Muscle Shoals sound of the 60s. About 1:10 mark of the vid is a pic of an LP (yes, vinyl) I have, “I’m in Love” which might have been his best,
Kruk kind of alluded to a problem Cain might have, physically, that made Bochy decision to yank him. Just like Lincecum of earlier in the year he just couldn’t locate anything–either an easy take out of zone or right into a guy’s wheelhouse. Just nothing.
Last night without posey they scored 5 and fought hard to regain leads and did some cool small ball stuff to score runs after Z gave them away. Then came mijares bad start, affeldt unable to get anyone out and the blast off the kid, and SF never recovered.
Today I only saw an inning, but that was plenty. Ughh.

Wasn’t that long ago LA was the team playing uninspired and dead last, mattingly was calling out Ethier and others, and there was talk two trips wasn’t going to last season. One big hot streak later and they are near the top. Any team in division that does that can regain credibility.

I just got this email from an ardent, smart, and cordial Mets fan, a friend of mine in North Dakota, of all places:

“And I don’t mean to insult your intelligence by being an irrepressible optimist, but if I’m a Giants fan, maybe I’m thinking: my team has just been through the worst period imaginable, yet here we are, only 6-1/2 games back, with 72 games to play. It’s like a football team that’s been totally outplayed in the first half, yet somehow is losing only 10-0, with the second half still to play. You guys are going to win the division, I still have no doubt about it. That said, the pitching remains a mystery. I thought Cain was pulled fast yesterday, which says to me either something’s wrong physically or Bochy was trying to send him a message.”

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 11, 2013 at 10:41 am

Good point by North Dakota. I heard on KNBR this morning that since the Giants were 3 games out to San Diego, they’ve lost 14 of 16, and are now just 6 1/2 out. That is mind boggling. They’ve been in free fall for three weeks, get have only dropped 3 1/2 games. Amazing…

Well our Giants, not a very impressive group right now. I think what bothers me most is they don’t seem to be completing. They are losing games by not playing good ball. If this was 2009 or 2011, where they had the pitching but no offense and they were losing 2-1, 3-2, whatever it would not bother me. But losing the way they have been, is painful to watch. Now as far as Gaudin is concerned, so far everything I have read is accusations. Will this get settled out of court with the women’s palm getting greased?? no, no not by Gaudin. Keep your minds out of the gutter boys. Anyway yes this will pass. in this day and age of social media and everything and everyone sueing and all, it does not take much to offend someone. Technically if you go out on a blind date and make a move on your date, she could rush down to the local Police station and file a complaint and have you arrested. Fair? Granted Gaudin’s case is different. Oh I read recently that Gaudin is still scheduled to pitch on Friday.

I don’t really see a big deal of Kap wearing a Dolphins hat, other than the fact the Dolphins suck. He’s on his own time, he can wear what he wants, unless an apparel deal tells him he can’t, and he’s getting paid to wear certain gear. He’s really young, he’ll learn that he needs to beware of the spotlight. Romo’s apparently learning that the hard way. As long as Kap doesn’t start groping women in hospitals, and maybe stay away from going to parties with Aldon Smith, he should be fine…

  17. SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on July 11, 2013 at 10:44 am

Re Pawlie’s 8:55, I buy into the theory that Bochy was sending a message pulling Cain so soon. Cain is the arguably the most respected member of the team–he has been here the longest, doesn’t get caught smoking pot or groping women on gurneys in the ER, and doesn’t blow his nose onto the ground while pitching. He presents shit to the president when they go to the white house, and has been a stud pitcher for many years. I think yanking him so quick was Bochy’s way of saying he’s tired of this shit and no one is getting by on reputation from this point forward.
If he was trying to send a message, I hope it got through and wasn’t overshadowed by the Gaudin news—which very well may have been the case.
I might go to the game tonight, but then am headed back to Mexico–this time for golf while staying in a hotel/time-share. Clam digging is not on the agenda.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 11, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Have a good one, Dawg. Did you end up going to the game? I don’t think your theory on Bochy/Cain is that far-fetched.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 11, 2013 at 10:59 am

I don’t think Cain needs a ‘message’ but I certainly think Bochy’s fed up with the recent performance of just about everyone on the roster. He said (anyway) that he thought he’d just pull Cain rather than have him try to grind it out. No sense in wearing him out when all seemed to be lost.

Snarkk said recently that this was due to all the pressure games of the last 3 years. And while this may or may not be true, it certainly IS true that Cain has logged a LOT of innings in his career. He averages 220 innings per year over the past 9 years. He’s only 28, but that’s a lot of miles.

    • SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on July 11, 2013 at 11:08 am

I’m not saying specifically Cain needed a message (although I think it could be argued he did), but I’m saying Cain is the ideal vehicle for sending a message to the entire team. That had to be embarrassing as hell for Cain and if Bochy is willing to do that to the guy who is arguably the most respected guy on the club, everyone else knows now something similar could happen to them.
I think it was a good move by Bochy and had nothing to do with wear and tear or a possible injury.
      Just my opinion anyway.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 11, 2013 at 9:02 pm

Agree. If that (a message) was the intent…Cain would serve as the best example. Hey San – Are you coming up for the Sombrero Flapalooza?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 11, 2013 at 11:45 am

Chuck, I said while they were mulling over a LT deal for Cain that Tim got heat for being small and fragile and he was losing it, but nobody focused on Cain having a ton of mileage already on his arm. He was a starter for SF when he was 20, you’re right. That’s a lot of work for an arm at the age of 28, and he toiled for years, hell, still does, with no run support — we all know that. Those have been hard innings. He’s the “Horse”, but there’s no guarantee his LT deal won’t turn out to be an albatross down the road…

For what this is worth, Gaudin was apparently in the hospital for some sort of kidney problem. For those of us wondering what the hell he was doing in there in the first place.

Gaudin’s attorney, Dominic Gentile, has issued this statement on his client’s behalf:

On January 27, 2013, Chad Gaudin was examined in the emergency room of a local hospital while experiencing symptoms believed to be related to acute renal failure due to a condition known as rhabdomyolysis. I am confident that this matter will be resolved in his favor and because it is pending in court there will be no further comment.

Kuiper was on KNBR this morning and said Cain was “not right”. He didn’t say he was hurt, but take that for what it’s worth. Everybody at the Giants, including Cain, swore up and down yesterday Cain was not hurt. I’ll take them at their word, but they don’t have the greatest track record on medical issues. Either hurt or not, I don’t think Bochy was sending a message to Cain or anybody else. He probably figured Cain was floundering for whatever reason, he had Kickham playing mumbelty peg in the dugout and knew he was going to be sent down, so why not let the kid get some more work on probably a lost game already, and give Cain the next 10 days off?. Kickham actually did some good work for a few innings until the wheels came off. He might have a future as a #5, maybe a #4 at best…

    • SanDawg's avatar SanDawg said, on July 11, 2013 at 11:50 am

I’m still sticking to my story. I think there was more to it than getting Kickham some work. You’ve lost 13 out of 15 and you’re going to toss the keys to a guy with a ERA of 14 to get him some work in a game that is not yet out of hand? There had to be more of a purpose than that.

Snarkk, I just don’t see the difference between pitching in close games or pitching with a lead. At least physically. To me it would be more a mental problem. As in ‘here we go again’. But still and all, if he’s getting a dead arm or whatever, I’d say it has a lot more to do with overall wear and tear rather than the situations he’s pitching in,

It’s like being a good hitter on a shitty team, or batting late in games that are blowouts either way. You might feel as if what you do doesn’t matter in the game, but it does matter for your numbers overall. Like, say, George Brett fighting for the batting title even though his team is in the shitter. He’s not physically doing anything different, but he’s got to approach the mental part of the game as if he’s trying to win the World Series.

So I guess I’m saying there could be a mental fatigue thing going on.

Get well soon, Michael. This place is just not the same without you. Like snarkk, withyout you, there isn’t anyone to tell me I am FOS. 😉

Man, it’s not good when you start thinking that standing out in the severe thunderstorm might be more fun than watching the game.
Come on Anna, get us out of this inning.

Watching the dots tonight and it looks like there are waaaaaaaaaay too many Padre dots on the bases.

  47. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 11, 2013 at 9:39 pm

Unreal. An actual Giants hit with RISP. Nice job, Blanco. Too bad for the bouncy ground rule double. I think that rule should be changed — up to the ump’s discretion whether the runner at first would score…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 11, 2013 at 9:41 pm

That is the rule. However, the runner is stopped at 3rd 98 out of 100 times.

Fuck, Abreu. Get your head out of your ass.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 11, 2013 at 9:45 pm

I guess you’re right. A half dozen or so games ago the umps did give the Giants a run on a guy from first scoring on a ball interfered with, I think — was it Blanco, and the opposing manager protested. Can’t remember which team it was…

    14-0. Believe.

  71. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 11, 2013 at 10:35 pm

And I’m obviously kidding about the “believe” thing, at least as most would define the word. But come on, we aren’t talking about believing the world is flat or that math doesn’t add up. And hey, it’s pretty tough to toss a coin in the air and go 14-0, right?
This season has been a grind. I choose to break it up with a little silliness and believe that Anna the Real Estate Agent influenced the outcome of tonight’s game. Either that or she was the chick Gaudin felt up at the ER.
If I can’t have destiny I’ll take “a small world”. And if you don’t believe in ANYTHING then you’re fucked….

Yes, Chi—I will be in the house for Orange Sombrero Night. Hope to see you there.
I really wish I could go to the game tomorrow just to see the reception “Gurney” Gaudin gets.
I’m not buying the renal failure bit by the way. I think it was the Perfect Storm of Entitled/Enabled Ordinary-rules-don’t-apply-to-me athlete, mixed with upwards of 20 cocktails with a big dose of Sin City mixed in.

  74. eddacker's avatar eddacker said, on July 11, 2013 at 11:17 pm

Cain is still my biggest disappointment this season.
Belt needs a ‘mind-meld’ with Will Clark to help his hitting in clutch situations.
We only had one walk and it was intentional, but, by-golly, if it did not involve a run for the other team.
    WTG Madison

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 11, 2013 at 11:31 pm

From my understanding, Belt has had time with Clark and JT. I think the team just needs to be patient with Belt. I believe he’ll be a late bloomer.

Cain only takes the field every fifth day, so I can’t really say he is my biggest disappointment…that would have to be Pablo for me.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 12, 2013 at 12:18 am

Mind melding always elicited groans from Spock. Don’t know what it would do to Clark…

I saw during one of the commercials tonight that July 22nd (I think that was the date) is Mr. One Flap Down bobble head night. Yep, get your Hackman bobble head. Unfortunately, we’ll be at an agility event in Ferndale, and from there will spend a couple of nights on the coast south of Mendocino. May have to grab one via eBay.
