David Huff, Come on Down!
Breaking up the news about Ryan Doumit happenings, it seems the Giants have bought a pitcher from the Yankees. He’s left handed and his name is David Huff. Not sure why New York would sell a left handed pitcher to us. He’s 29, he’s had success at the major league level. Last year he pitched to a 0.98 WHIP in 34 innings.
Who sells off left handed pitchers? Especially a team that doesn’t need the cash?
The Yankees needed the roster spot after getting Tanaka…How sweet would it be if the works out for us.
That’s why I have a good vibe for 2014: “sleeper cells” like 2010: Morse = Burrell; Huff = Lopez. But hope springs eternal in the spring, even before the spring. (Using the term “sleeper cells” insures that the NSA is now a Flap follower.) Go, Giants!
Zum’s post yesterday about the dodger network has had me thinking of a tagline for the station. One that stuck with me;
LA dodgers, sucking balls since ’88
The haiku at the end of this article was a nice touch.

Thanks, Micah. I thought it was a very sober and decent appraisal of your/our San Francisco Giants WITH AN AWESOME HAIKU. BTW, I’ve been absent because a) I moved on impulse Friday b) not sure where I will land, and c) where I am staying uses Internet from a server that screens sites. It redirects away from the Flap because it thinks it is too naughty, hahahaha. Some nerve! Love the POTD!
All sounds pretty crazy man. New gig?
Is David Huff related to Aubrey? Does he wear thongs?
Yawn…….this stuff makes me sleepy………zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Golden Gate Bridge pictures I took the day after Flapalooza: http://thelaughorist.blogspot.com/2014/01/sometimes-words.html
Nobody read my entry a couple days back ~ or was it yesterday? Too cold to think up thisaway. -27-30 below zero slated for tonight. Well, did pick up the news on Huff on MLBTR a day or two ago and capped it with “don’t call me Aubrey”.
Giants know pitching. Chances are, they had their eyes on this guy for some little while and when the Empire made their big strike on Tanaka-San and dropped Huff from their roster, Sabean & Co. pounced like a mama puss on a meadow-mouse. Money only. No trade. The fact that Huff has had experience as both a reliever and a starter, as i noted previously, means that essentially he is the backup to the backup in case Petit is drawn on to replace an injured or suddenly ineffective member of the Rotation. Fact that the dude is an LHP ratchets up his value beyond the probable Fresnobus, depending on how he looks in Arizona over the next couple months.
Huff looks to be a more versatile replacement for Mijares ~ and hopefully more successful.
No Stix, I DO REMEMBER YOU BRINGING IT UP. Hey, Flavor didn’t cite me as being responsible for the Doumit gold I mined the other day, so what do you expect? 😯
Maybe under Rags and Gardner,Huff can get needed help cause his career stats don’t impress me much.5.40 career ERA lots of gopher balls allowed per innings pitched, more hits allowed per innings, losing record yada yada yada.
Did lead Indians staff in wins going 11 -8 in 2009 with a 5 plus era (must of scored a ton of runs in his starts) the next year went 2-11 over 6 era guess they didn’t score for him that year.Time will tell.
Raptors lead Nets 57-56 at half. Is that a more agreeable score for you no-defense Western Conference fans?
Well this move and the one for Lisson, Giants no doubt figuring what the hell, we had good success with castoffs Torres/Vogelsong/Blanco/Arias/Gaud in. Why not give em a look. Even A. Huff was initially a helluva bargain.
Yep, no problem with Huff signing. Chump change. I wish they would have done more of these type deals earlier in the free agent signing period.
In the “It’s the little things” dept…..
Near the end of the Kings game last night, with about 3 minutes to go and Denver leading by 6 points, Denver inbounded the ball after the Kings made a basket, and the Denver pointguard let the ball roll to almost half-court before he picked it up. The clock doesn’t run, and it’s the thing you do if you’re BEHIND in the game in that situation, not ahead. I couldn’t believe it. Then about a minute later, he starts to do the same thing AGAIN and the headcoach Brian Shaw yells at him, and the pointguard picks up the ball earlier. Just hard to believe that kind of stuff when you see it. Pro ballplayers making such gaffes like that.
Late to some of yesterday’s thread comments on cable TV, but speaking of that, we are going TV less in the Snarkk Nest. Meaning, no cable. The Snarkkettes can do without watching crap, and they are now into their schoolwork and other stuff on their Macbooks, anyway. Almost everything on Cable TV sucks, and is totally not worth the ridiculous cost. Comcast can get screwed. If we, like Canada, could make our own Cable TV menu choices and pay only for what channels we want, well, that would be civilized. But, of course not.
Blade, and anybody else, what’s the best suggestion for seeing Giants and other sports via the computer?
BTW, we have DSL…
Right now, I do all sports, including pay boxing (which is free) at http://www.vipboxus.co/
Definitely, screw around with it, so you know exactly how to access important sporting events before hand. Pop up windows will come up with moving “x”s, as well as dialog boxes telling you to download something when you don’t need to. In fact, it is just like Breaking Bad (which you get much credit for turning me onto at that one site). One scratch deserves another . . . 😎
Everyone who has cable or satellite are essentially paying for ONE THING – Football. The rest of the crap is just that – crap. Without football, I am certain that that they would go ala carte.
Like Blade, I use the vipbox for niner games but I spend $90 bucks a year for Giants games on MLB.com. If you still live in the Bay area mlb probably wouldn’t work for you because the games would be blacked out in your area, but a buddy of mine in SF uses the vipbox for Giants games and hasn’t had any problems. Like Blade said, you’ll get a lot of pop ups etc, I wouldn’t trust downloading anything from that site so ya gotta pay attention.
I like a certain amount on shows on TV. “Justified,” “Sherlock,” and “The Middle” to name a few.
I also watch “The Daily Show” and “Colbert” and little bit of the political stuff on MSNBC.
In addition to lots of sports.
Shows are eventually available on NetFlix, so there’s not necessarily a need to see them when they’re first broadcast. In fact, a case could be made to not invest too much time in a show until you’re sure it won’t be cancelled after one season.
Here ya go Zum . . . I can’t help you with The Daily Show and Colbert, but everything else you mentioned is available here. Come to the dark side my friend . . . 👿
http://www.couchtuner.eu/ and http://stream-tv.me/
Zumiee, I think Colbert and the Daily Show are available the next day on youtube. You might want to double check that but I think they are.
Actually, I think you are right clown. I have watched Rachel Maddow the next day on both her MSNBC website and Youtube, so I would imagine these two shows would be too.
OK, thanks for the advice. I’ll check it out…
