Epic! I accessed this from Facebook Craig and I was expecting a long treatise on the Giants/Dodgers rivalry, but frankly, “‘Nuff said” captures everything about that rivalry in 2 words.
You should do more Haiku, as you seem to know how to say a lot with a little . . . 😉
See if LA can beat someone beside DBax. I think they are 4-4 vs. everyone else, 5-0 vs. AZ. Like to see SF get back to home dominance at ATT.
Dubs, I don’t think survive Clips without Bogut. LA has better starting 5 and good bench too, plus an edge in coaching. Key for GS is to attack the basket in half court and not be just a bunch of J shooters, score inside and get to FT line. Btw Griffin and Paul, 2 guys who get the star treatment, Clips will get FTs. Igs is gonna have to be big at both ends and help Steph; this is why they got him, to make a playoff run.
Green has to step up in a big way. O’Neal should be OK for stretches, and a little Speitch as well, but Green needs to be what he has been, just more so, and Barnes really has to rekindle the playoff magic from last year. Keep hearing Festus is close, but no sighting of him yet.
Barnes is a bit lost right now and he needs to attack the basket rather than settling for corner 3’s. Thompson has really come on and developed an inside game in the back half of this season. But Bogut missing is going to kill their interior defense. Lee looks fairly good, but he won’t be able to stem the rush to the hoop that the Clips will bring.
They are also at a big disadvantage in the rebounding/2nd chance points department. Something I wish Thompson was a little better at.
No he doesn’t. I never paid attention to see that he was on the 40 man for a few years, which must have been the case, else he wouldn’t be out of options. He’s been in the Giants system since he was about 10 years old or something. I’d say Perez goes, he does have an option. Or, somebody suddenly develops a sore something or other…
Basketball broadcasting has almost become unlistenable to me. I clicked on KNBR the other day, and the very first thing I heard was Mark Jackson being interviewed, and saying: “He can really rebound the basketball,” and I went
“Aaargghhh” and turned on a CD and listened to music.
“Rebound the basketball,” “score the basketball,” “win basketball games,” on an on. They probably got that from the football guys: “He’s a football player that can help you win football games,” on and on, etc.
Barf!!!
It’s some kind of hideous evil crabgrass of verbiage that swept through sports and contaminated the language, probably irreversably.
Baseball seems to be holding out, though. I’m not hearing a lot of “He can really pitch the baseball,” “He can really catch the baseball,” etc.
Hold out, baseball, PLEASE hold out. Don’t let the crabgrass in.
Awesome, zum. I barf at the frequent: “well, take your great pitchers like THE (or YOUR) Seavers, Koufaxs, Marichals, Gibsons — they really blah blah”. As if there were multiple such players, as in plural. Drives me batty. Wherever did that start with these announcers…?
Some 49er football players got in trouble. I wonder how that will affect their football season. I wonder if that will make it harder for them to score the football this season, and less able to stop the other team from scoring the football.
In baseball, since it’s the players’ feet that literally do the scoring on the plate, broadcasters could say: “The Giants hope to score more of their feet tonight than the Dodgers do. The Giants have been scoring their feet at a higher rate than last year, so far.”
I can tell, zum, that his really has you hacked off. I hope the Giants win tonight, or it sounds like you might go into an airport and tell TSA you’ve got to score the bomb… 😉
Yeah, there is talk of going with 13 pitchers after Affeldt’s activation. Even if they decided to go with 12, it would be tough as Gutierrez, Huff, and Machi are all out of options.
As snarkk mentioned, Adrianza does not have options and Perez does. If that is the way they go, I sure hate to see Perez go.
Screw Brandon Lloyd Chi,Only 49er who would not sign my 49er Jacket back in Alex Smith’s rookie year,
I was a guest of Kevin Barlow who gave me not only awesome seats with my wife but passes to the players parking lot after the game and I was even Invited to have some chicken and Ribs with Jeremy Newberry,Issac Sopogna? And Derek Smith and Bryant Young!
Fucking Lloyd with his lame ass posse brothers, didn’t feel he needed to be a fan of anybody but himself!!!!!
Kat – I get it. But you know, a guy who wore “25” for the Giants was pretty damned surly in his days, but he did help them win a few ball games. I always prefer a player be a good ambassidor to the game and interact with the fans as much as possible, but if Lloyd can help them win, I am down with the signing.
I get that (frustration when you cannot get the autograph). And while I would prefer a player who is open and interactive with the fans…I can forgoe that if they help the team win.
It’s not about the autograph Chi, though it was surprising at the time, ( of course now thinking back at it, he would have stolen my sharpie as well) since everyone else was cool, and some mentioned he was not really liked on the team anyway(a loner) into his Rap Jive with his Gold Grill teeth hood boys hangin with him so really no 5 seconds out of his pathetic life to make his X since he doesn’t know how to spell!!!!
LLOYD WOULD BE A “FUCKING CANCER” IN THE CLUBHOUSE!!!
The NIners have enough issues going on right now with Aldon, Culliver, Kap without adding this SCUMBAG!!!
Get some Big WR’s in the DRAFT to fill out the need! Not some over the hill Fucking Loser, Shit for Brains,Maggot Droppings,A-hole!!!!!
” I was even Invited to have some chicken and Ribs with Jeremy Newberry,Issac Sopogna? And Derek Smith and Bryant Young!” Wow kat, now that’s what I call eating at the big kids table.
Yeah it was great Bozo,
It was Alex Smith’s 1st ever Start against the Colts, he was cool after the game hangin out with his younger sister.
Newberry who was on the DL at the time, had the Q fired up in the back of the players lot with beers /Soda’s etc garlic bread, salads hooked it up right!!
Only wished I could have put Lloyd on a separate grill, like the one in the display window at Harry’s Hofbrau and watch him cook ever so slowly!
Alexander Guerrero, is the Cuban defector the Bums are paying $7 million to play in Albuquerque. While it’s only one game, the second baseman made his minor league debut (he was injured previously) on Sunday and, well, he impressed. In four at bats, Guerrero had three hits, including a double and a three-run homer that was umm, large. If Gordon falters, you can make book that this guy gets plugged in immediately.
I’d usually agree, but the way the Giants bench hits, I’m not convinced heading into the LA series and then a roadie including Coors, that an extra pitcher is worth less than another wet noodle bat..
Agree with Snarrk’s 3:06pm. The extra arm will pay off in more ways than the extra bat. Bochy can sometimes get pretty active with his pitcher changes and he was OUT of pitches in the 10th vs AZ when he brought Petit in.
My thoughts on tonight’s game, besides my contemplative “‘Nuff said” comment in my thread today, are that I have no freaking clue what’s going to happen in this game. You’d think that both Timmy and Fat Face would get lit up but who knows, maybe they focus up and shut these offenses down.
My advice to Timmy: Keep Dee Gordon off the base paths and throw Puig lots of sliders off the plate. If he accomplished those 2 things, we are probably good to go as I truly believe Fat Face is done and we should tee off on him tonight…….
If Puig gets a fat fastball or any other fat pitch even near the area code of the plate on the first pitch of any AB tonite, I am going to be just a little peeved…
No disrespect to Jackie Robinson, but having every player wear # 42 is overkill and absurd, And it doesn’t prove or accomplish a damn thing. Anybody who buys a scorecard is an idiot. I’m sure I have posted this same thing every year on this date. And of course, Larry Doby (who had it so easy, I’m sure and whose number nobody even fuckin’ knows) will be ignored on the anniversary of his debut just 11 weeks after Robinson’s.
It’s like these people who think they’re being patriotic by using postage stamps with the American flag on it when they mail their electric bill. You want to be patriotic, pick up a rifle, get on a fuckin’ plane and go kill some Taliban members. Everybody is so full of shit.
I’m with Loo on most of this and have said so, especially the Larry Doby part. It’s phony. The Mets’ temple to ex-DODGER Robinson at Citi Field is the phoniest of all, as if Robinson were a Met. Fraudulent.
It was frigid with wind and flurries, but our ladies lacrosse team won, in OT (which kept us in the cold longer). (They do two 3-minute overtimes.) Syracuse 10 Liverpool 9. I was bursting with pride, almost in tears. These girls have come a long way. Our coach (whose mom died a week ago; he still coached that game) went all Billy Martin on the refs. He asked them to check opponents’ sticks, like three times. At least one stick was thrown out as illegal. I don’t know the rules; something about the webbing being too loose. At one point a Liverpool girl was pulling on her strings as our coach yelled for a challenge; apparently, tightening the strings like that is illegal and our coach told the ref, who claimed not to see it. Our girl grabbed the stick to stop it. So, the game had some drama. Sweet upset. Okay. Pardon the interruption. Go, Giants!
Pawlie, cool post . . . Didn’t Jim Brown play lacrosse at Syracuse? Almost certain that he did . . . If so, do they have a museum on campus about his exploits in lacrosse?
Jim Brown was indeed a lax all-star and is remembered here for that as well as football. Thanks for the pirate feed info a while ago; taking advantage of it now as I thaw out.
Brandon Belt cannot hit fastballs at the bel . . . waist or above, inside, over the plate, on the outside. That has been and remains his single biggest problem.
that was just a professionally pitched inning from a vet. I dislike Beckett. But gotta tip my cap to him for getting out of that. And where did 93 come from? Steroids, nice to know ya.
Speaking of suspicious ‘roid-like behavior: Juan Uribe. His career was totally dead in the water for two years, and now he’s been hitting like a maniac since last year.
he does seem to “cycle” on and off. two years off and 1 year on for the giants and then the dodgers. only last year was odd and who knows yet about this year. but he truly looked finished for two years before having really good contract years. coincidence?
Do I dare say that he really knows how to score that needle?
That’s cool; but I’m curious what his stats are on “inherited runners who scored,” or where that stat can even be found. I thought I remembered a little bit of gas-can in him last year, but maybe I’m remembering that wrong.
Well, if the previous pitcher didn’t put the runner in that position, it would be a non-issue for him. I have not seen that stat tracked. Where is James when you need him???

Machi’s inherited runner % was a little worse than the league average at 34. Hardly a gas can. Logically, it is another pretty worthless stat, like BA w/ RISP. In other words, it’s a matter of chance rather than skill.
Ha, whatever Zumie has to say to me, he can relay on 4/25 in Section 233. Of course, I’ll respond with a “Yes, Sir,’ given that he’s about 10 inches taller than I am.
Epic! I accessed this from Facebook Craig and I was expecting a long treatise on the Giants/Dodgers rivalry, but frankly, “‘Nuff said” captures everything about that rivalry in 2 words.
You should do more Haiku, as you seem to know how to say a lot with a little . . . 😉
Yep…the hated Bumbinos visit our jewel by the bay for three beginning today.
The Tiburones open the NHL playoffs against the Kings.
Add to that… it is looking very much like the Dubs will face the Clips in the first round of the NBA playoff.
Epic week of SoCal vs. NorCal.
It is time (it is ALWAYS time) to Whoop that SoCal ASS!
BEAT L.A.! BEAT L.A.! BEAT L.A.!
Here’s a haiku for ya, Steve…
Los Bumbinos suck
Time to whoop that dodger ass
NorCal over SoCal
Outstanding Chi!
That’s a beauty, Flav. Well done.
See if LA can beat someone beside DBax. I think they are 4-4 vs. everyone else, 5-0 vs. AZ. Like to see SF get back to home dominance at ATT.

#halfsquad doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?
Yes…will be a tough series for the Dubs. O’Neil will need to step in for Bogut and play the enforcer role. Anything can happen…Go Dubs!
Fuck LA,,, Nuff Said!!!!!!
Big test for Timmy. Obvious? Yes. True. Uh Huh. Finals? Nope. Critical? Maybe a month away.
Mr. Blanco’s on his almost, inside-the-park walkoff.
http://gregorblanco.mlblogs.com/
Green has to step up in a big way. O’Neal should be OK for stretches, and a little Speitch as well, but Green needs to be what he has been, just more so, and Barnes really has to rekindle the playoff magic from last year. Keep hearing Festus is close, but no sighting of him yet.

Well, I’m hoping that by May we have a sense that Timmy is gathering his shit and getting it together.
We be saying that for the last 3 yes now
Agree Sturges. My question – when does he stop getting a pass?
Affeldt to be activated today? Who goes?
Adrianza has options . . . I think .
No he doesn’t. I never paid attention to see that he was on the 40 man for a few years, which must have been the case, else he wouldn’t be out of options. Useful discussion of how minor league player options works…

I see where the Niners have inked Brandon Lloyd to a one year deal. I think it is a good move…gives them added depth at wideout.

Don’t sugar coat it Kat…tell us how you REALLY feel.
He did have 74 catches last year for almost 1,000 yards.
That was 2012, I think. He sat out 2013, why I don’t know. Chuck can confirm probably. Thus, rust is an issue, among other things…
Correct…he did sit out last year, and I do not know the reason why.
” I was even Invited to have some chicken and Ribs with Jeremy Newberry,Issac Sopogna? And Derek Smith and Bryant Young!” Wow kat, now that’s what I call eating at the big kids table.

Zumiee must love it when a guy runs for “positive yardage”…
Yeah, and I like it when they talk about the runner’s “foot speed.”
Less is more. #beatLA
Off to a lacrosse game amidst snow flurries; had some minor accumulation today. Yesterday in the 60s or 70s.
13 pitchers is one above ridiculous and 2 above stupid…
I’d usually agree, but the way the Giants bench hits, I’m not convinced heading into the LA series and then a roadie including Coors, that an extra pitcher is worth less than another wet noodle bat..
Well I do realize the game has changed from the days when 10 was maximum, 9 was common, and there was even an occasional 8.
Pretty cool and hilarious video of Dodger fan agony:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwuNZ-53U8U
Agree with Snarrk’s 3:06pm. The extra arm will pay off in more ways than the extra bat. Bochy can sometimes get pretty active with his pitcher changes and he was OUT of pitches in the 10th vs AZ when he brought Petit in.

Bee Wheezy brought back off the DL just in time. This could get interesting. Baer just hired 2 extra security guards to man his box.
BF.. Baer should hire out ZZ Top for his security just to fuck with B Weezy!
I’m hoping Lincecum shaved.
Hopefully Tim has a very low number of walks, and keeps the ball in the yard, and gives the defense the chance to make plays.
That’s a 3-headed hope…

Dumbest pre-game ceremony in history…
agreed.
This reminds me of the climactic scene in the Three Amigos when all the citizens of Santa Poco wear the same outfits to confuse El Guapo and his men.
Hope the Giants win 4-2.
Beckett throwing 93? Fuck.
Brandon Belt cannot hit fastballs at the bel . . . waist or above, inside, over the plate, on the outside. That has been and remains his single biggest problem.
Tim Just tied Mama Leone on the all-time meatballs served list.
gold
Listening to Vin Scully, I just can’t shake that brilliant parody by Zumie.
Gotta turn two here. Come on Tim.
Not looking good.
He’s up to 70 something pitches already. Short outing regardless.
I know it’s not the end all be all of evaluation, but 17K’s to 1bb is epic. It’s something that cannot be ignored.
Same as Belt’s?
Sure is…
Yee haw, got a hold of some magic there.
Golden opportunity wasted, great AB out of Morse till Beckett painted the corner.
that was just a professionally pitched inning from a vet. I dislike Beckett. But gotta tip my cap to him for getting out of that. And where did 93 come from? Steroids, nice to know ya.
Hicks ain’t long for Fresno with his cement glove!
Tim is starting to look gassed. Get some runs Giants.
Say Kruk… With Buster’s contract he doesn’t get judged by % of runners he throws out and especially when his pitchers don’t give him a chance.
So that number 42 sure has left a lot of guys on base tonight.
Damm Beckett made some quality pitches in the clutch, can’t tip my hat to a Dodger, just shake my head in frustration!
Buster swung at ball 3. Beckett gambled and won.
Hicks and his .500 OBP ain’t heading to Fresno.
Nope, as well it shouldn’t.
OK. One fucking run? This is shaping up like the game I went to.
Yes!!
Hoping that got through.
And, to answer the eaerlier Brandon Lloyd question, he retired last year to pursue his acting (!) career.
He and Dwight Clark should collaborate and compare notes.
Let’s GO!!!
And what career with that be Chuck ?
Other then “Acting” like an asshole his whole life!!
Tied up, keep em coming Giants.
Hate seeing a walk after a caught stealing.
I’m getting a Burris vibe from Adrianza.
Agree Z,about Adrianza / Burris vibe, though Hicks will probably stay, I get a Fred Lewis of the infield vibe with his glove.
Let it be noted that I didn’t make the first Fred Lewis reference of the year.
I miss Freddles. Sorta…
Well that sucked.
Uribe? Hate that fucker…
I don’t think a lot of us were totally sold on Machi coming out of Spring Training.
Machi has been fine. He pitched well last year, too. Tonight, he was victimized by jazz hands on steroids, after all 🙂
Okay…time to get that run back, and some! Let’s go Giants…time to light these fucks, up!
James nailed it…Machi was nails last year, and has been right there this year, too.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/machije01.shtml
That’s cool; but I’m curious what his stats are on “inherited runners who scored,” or where that stat can even be found. I thought I remembered a little bit of gas-can in him last year, but maybe I’m remembering that wrong.

LOB is the story of this game. So far.
Well, we need to add one more to the tally right fucking now…
Hate taking out Morse. We are gonna miss his bat in a close game. Take him out in the 7th, 8th too but not this early
Yeah Pence…way to get it started!
And there it is! Rally time!
Huh?
Charlie – that was in reference to your “LOB is the story of this game” comment. Giants left another Bum stranded…and hence, it is rally time. As Foghorn Leghorn would say “Pay attention when I’m talking to ya boy.”
In the middle of all this excitement:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2013-reliever-pitching.shtml
Machi’s inherited runner % was a little worse than the league average at 34. Hardly a gas can. Logically, it is another pretty worthless stat, like BA w/ RISP. In other words, it’s a matter of chance rather than skill.
I knew we could count on you James. Tell your boss you deserve a raise!
I’ll trade the raise for a Belt walk off.
You’re a good man…I don’t care what Zumie says about you…
Ha, whatever Zumie has to say to me, he can relay on 4/25 in Section 233. Of course, I’ll respond with a “Yes, Sir,’ given that he’s about 10 inches taller than I am.
Need two here Giants.
Gotta PH with Hector Sanchez first right?
Belted!
Oh Hell Yes Brandon Belt great piece of hitting!!!!
Tied up.
