Name that BBOTD
Well, whether it was the new BBOTD that put him over the top or just skill and experience, Timmy did what I didn’t think he would do: follow up his no hitter with a quality start. And man, we needed that. However it can’t just be “Tim for the Win” every 5th day. It’s time for more of his teammates to step up.
Normally, my confidence would be shot for a game like tonight’s against Wainwright. But I’m buoyed by the haunting afternoon haze of the newest BBOTD. The sun has set according to my dad, but as far as she’s concerned, the future is still brilliant and alive………
Someone needs to name her. Nominees go in the thread below…….
I don’t think it’s confusing what Sabean meant by “bad penny year” last season. In the middle of the season, he basically was saying it’s just not the Giants’ year, and then he headed off to the Bahamas or somewhere.
At the time, didn’t he mean a “Brad Penny” year — meaning big, lumbering and not very good?…
I think Panik took more pitches there than the previous five batters combined.
Blanco with his awesome uppercut swing for the pop-out.
Geez, Loo, what happened to that 9:38 good feeling on Blanco’s next AB? Pop up swinging at ball four. Maybe you’ve got a bulging disk?… 😉
Should’ve at least walked. The ump screwed him twice.
I’m going to the Giants game tomorrow. If Blanco’s batting leadoff, that’ll be my scream you hear on TV.
🙂
Darren Ford as pathetic as he is,would be an upgrade over Blanco Blanks..
This Blanco leadoff thing must end. We can’t be subjected to this as long as Pagan is out, which might be the rest of the season. Reports are that he’ll be given another epidural tomorrow in LA, then back to the Bay Area to wait for a few days to see what happens…
He’s safe.
Affeldt got a ticky-tacky almost-impossible-to-see balk the other night, and yet Neshek is allowed to do all kinds of bizarre stuff from the stretch.
Pence clearly beat it!
Man, I hope Pence is OK.
Pence is such a wild cat, anyone who downs 18 cups of coffee a day has to be!
Sandoval fouls back the two pitches down the middle, then reaches and rolls the ball over.
Beast can’t hit that heat, thanks for coming, Fuuuuuck!!!!
The 3 big guys couldn’t square up the hard-throwing closer.
Well, not surprising with Wainwright going. Getting at him twice in succession was a bridge way too far for this putrid offense right now. Good job by Voggy and Pen, 2 earnies should normally yield a win…
Panik, 2 of the 5 Giants hits. Posey, Morse, Panda, Craw, Blanco = no hits. Obviously, they’re not “ready”, so I’m expecting tomorrow Sabes will publicly rip them all a new one to light a fire…
Well, good for Panik, he needed that. also probably keeps Hicks on the bench few days longer, tho not sure if Giants are facing lefties.
I’ll give the BB this much–that’s another very good effort from Vogs, and another one from Tim. That stuff keeps going, Giants can win their share of *torture* games.
And that’s where I stand–Blanco Perez Colvin Duvall Panik Hicks Hector Arias—whatever they get out of these guys is gravy. It’s up to everyone else, the established regular vets, to carry the load and pick these guys up when they are struggling. And struggling to stay alive and in the league at all is what they do and who they are. Getting all bent over them, imo, is just a waste of effort. They’re replacement guys, not regulars or all stars.
But if that’s how you want to vent, knock yourself out.
Pawlie mentioned Sabes as a poker player. He’s not the type to go all in on a big hype deal like colletti. If he talks to the Marlins, it’s not, “Who do you want for Stanton?” It’s more about a Bonifacio.
He wasn’t gonna pick up Cano to replace Scutaro, and he wasn’t in on the bidding for Ellsbury or Choo. But the two guys he did get, Hudson and Morse, have been very pleasant surprises. Even Tim and Vogs have been better than I would have expected, esp lately.
With the added WC it takes longer for the sellers group to grow. How many Cubs Twins or WhiteSox do you want?
Sabes isn’t riding buses through the valley to watch the Coast League–he’s got an army of scouts advisers coaches and mgrs. at minor league levels that do all that, and he’s relying on them to help decide the value what he has and what needs they can fill. So what he says is based on what he is hearing from multiple sources. These guys also are gonna tell him what SF could afford to give up in a deal too.
Last night was a good ballgame, and Giants got winning run to the plate late. Wainwright and Vogs actually was a great match up. And we got Zum going today with Bum on the hill. sounds like a winning formula…regardless of who leads off or plays where.
Yesterday, as tortuous as it turned out to be, didn’t feel as bad as some of the recent losses.
The pitching IS coming around. Just got to hope Belt gives them a needed jolt of hitting. Morse is not hitting anything hard lately. He’s the one that carried them early. Belt can hopefully get the rest of the boys rolling.
And much as I like Blanco get him the hell out of the 1 hole. Please. Yeah, he’s not the only problem, but he’s not setting the table at all. Neither is Pence. I’d lead off with Panik and Crawfish. Get Pence in more of an RBI spot.
And, in that line of thinking, just saw this:
http://www.csnbayarea.com/giants/rewind-big-lineup-changes-coming-after-giants-shut-out
Oh, shit! I just READ the article. Pence leadoff? Belt 2nd when he returns?
Aaaaaah. not crazy about that, but it IS different. Shit. Might as well bat Bummie 8th tonight.
Charlie said: “Might as well bat Bummie 8th tonight.”
First, it is a day game. Pitcher in the 8 hole…classic LaRussa move. And why not…he has more pop than anyone else near the bottom of the order.
Morse REALLY needs to find his stroke. Dude was on fire for the early part of the season, and of late, he hasn’t done much. Really need to get his bat going again. Posey has come around of late, as has Pablo.
Well, Titties Galore (or whatever the fuck her name is) didn’t have a very long run.
Vogey pitched his ass off. Only two earned with 8 Ks…in most games a pitcher ought to win those games. But with our inept fucking offense? PFFFT.
I am okay with Pence batting lead-off. You need a guy who has a REALLY GOOD CHANCE of getting on base, AND has some speed. Pence meets the requirement (better than Crawford and certainly better’n Pank). I thnk Panik needs to stay near the bottom of the order.
Until Pagan comes back (and possibly Scutaro…who played in five innings his last rehad start and will bump it up to seven in the next) comes back, I am down with The Preacher in the leadoff hole, and Belt in the 2 hole.
How about scoring some fucking runs today! Off early today for the Independence Day holiday. Ready to watch our boys take the series behind Big Country.
I know you haven’t posted since this thread was up, but if you read this…stay safe, John (Clown), re: Hurricane Arthur.
Bochy must be getting his moves from the Flap. Blanco out of the leadoff role. I guess after going 10 for his last 59, Bochy finally got the memo about Blanco maybe not being a great leadoff guy. The redeeming thing about Pence being leadoff is that he’s got a good OBP, and he’ll get another time up during games. Long term, that role doesn’t make much sense. But, let’s see what happens, it all depends on Pagan’s disk, and there’s no predicting where that ends up. Is Morse hurt, too? The guy has disappeared at the plate…
I heard this morning that Morse ‘wasn’t 100%’ in the recent past, but I have no idea what that means as of now.
Pence is just so off the wall with his approach that I’m not all that thrilled about it, other than he’s not Blanco.
I still would have looked at Panik/Crawfish 1-2 and getting Pence in the 5 hole.
I have the perfect name for the BBOTD…
NEXT!
You can’t string two wins together (esp. when your starter goes 7 and gives up only 2 ER with 8 Ks)…then don’t let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out.
Lew Wolff must have had a frat brother phone conversation with the Budster yesterday. Selig has jumped into the Oakland Mausoleum lease fray, and “ruled” that the A’s can move immediately to another location if the Oakland nutjob politicians don’t agree to the lease extension that’s been negotiated. Who needs a blue ribbon committee — let the Budster just send an email…
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Selig-permits-A-s-to-leave-Oakland-prompts-last-5598201.php
Pence RF
Panik 2B
Posey C
Sandoval 3B
Colvin LF
Duvall 1B
Crawford SS
Blanco CF
Bumgarner LHP
As mentinoed earlier, with the line-up we have (sans Pagan), I am down with Pence leading-off for a while (emphasis on FOR A WHILE). As snarkk alluded…I don’t want to see this long-term, but it may be the best they have to go with over the short term.
Pence has the second highest OBP on the team (after Pagan).
Craw is 6th in OBP at .323. Panik is way the fuck down there (11th) at .286.
Pence also has the required speed for a lead-off type and is 3rd on the team with 7 SBs.
So, all things considered, I would roll the dice with Pence/Belt 1/2 for a week or so, and that gives them a chance to get a read on the status of Pagan.
I’m sure Vogs is pissed off this morning, as are most of the starters, knowing you can’t give up a run or 2, shit even a no hitter might just be extra innings or a loss on an error or balk,or wild pitch.
Ditto that.
Hitters are gripping, no doubt. The A’s fall out of bed and score 3 runs…
I guess valuing BB helps with that.
MLB has given the A’s the green light to relocate…
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Selig-permits-A-s-to-leave-Oakland-prompts-last-5598201.php
I truly hope the A’s stay in the Bay Area, and particularly like them in Oakland. The city of Oakland needs to get their shit together.
With you Chi, used to go in the rebellious times under Finley, loved those teams winning despite that Asshole.
Jack London Square would be my choice for a new park, bombs in the bay like ATT!!
They should put it on the end of the runway on the north end of Alameda.
Yeah I went a few times when I was a kid with my (much older) brother in law. Back when you could bring pony kegs in to the bleachers. Surprised we didn’t die on the San Mateo bridge those wasted nights. Him anyway.
Just noticed Morse is getting a blow, err, rest today.
First base is really rough on the body? I would not be surprised if the guy has some kind of nagging injury going on…
2b must bat second. Lol, Bochy.
Bumgarner should be hitting 7th in today’s lineup…
Steve and Chuck, thanks for the well wishes. Prep works is done, if it’s not secure I probably don’t want it (if I have any neighbors on here, that was just a joke). Plenty of supplies, nothing left to do but hunker in. As a bonus, it looks like the Giants will be on the tube back here, so win or lose, I can get a break from the weather channel. Cheers y’all and Goooooooooooo GIANTS..
Take care of your gal and yourself. Give us a shout afterwards to let us know you’re all right!!!!!
enjoy the game hope you guys are safe.
Thanks willie, I think we are good to go.
Batten down the hatches and all that. Every summer you go through this?
Man, that’s nuts. Would love to see some pics of the place tho. I (we) know you’ve been working hard on the place for a good while now.
Giants hopefully get better the second time through the LU, else this looks like a long afternoon. Bumgarner better not give up any more runs…
Blanco! With a cover from Bummie. On the board.
Bum decided he’d better get an RBI for himself since nobody else was doing anything.
BTW, the Reds went to SDiego after winning 4 straight at ATT, and promptly the Pads swept 3 from the Reds.
Giants will not have an easy time at PetCo…
So, the throwing error by Duval turns into at least one run. Belt makes that a double play, most likely…
Now Bummie is the weak link of the SPs?
Yeah Chuck, in this week’s bizarro world, the pitching hierarchy rotation goes like this: 1. Timmy; 2. Voggy; 3. Cain; and 4. Bumgarner (and per Chuck’s reminder, Huddy).
5. Huddy
Thanks. This frickin’ game is frying my brain.
Oh. Missed that. Shit.
Uh, throwing error now costs 3 runs.
5-1 means this one’s likely done. Adios…
Yowza. Get the pen going . . .
Only fucking good thing about this game is watching Hargaugh’s wife slurping her drink.
Thank God for DP (insert LOL). Yeah baby, harder!
They should’ve left MadBum in the game just to hit.
Seems like they always sleep walk through these weekday afternoon home games.
Doubt the Giants could even score with are BBOTD….
Oh well. The Timmy high was short-lived. Another lost series at home.
I keep reminding myself we are 10 games over .500 and have the 2nd best record in the NL. 😦
Oh Joy (as Chuck would say)! We scored another run. Lucky the rookie is in center.
Tiburon needs to get this run in. Preferably without giving up an out.
Right. Did Bochy just pinch hit for the guy he double switched with?
Blanco*, the “Abyss” no matter where he hits in the line up.
*Blanco – what an appropriate name.
Shit. Blanco’s on fire compared to the rest. He doubled and scored today.
I think he got a bunt hit, too. Shocking…
There’s no joy in Mudville today . . .
Another fucking error. Like Flavor said a week or so ago – I’m so grateful for fantasy league and daily tournament leagues. This shit is becoming too much.
I’ve circled back to see if any change. Sorta. Now down by 5.
Petit throws an inning ending double play into center. The usual fielding disaster by Giants hurlers.
Assuming no miracle comeback here, IMO this is serious business now. Ok, last night you accept a loss to an elite pitcher. But, today? You can’t really just shrug off losing 15 out of 20 or whatever it is now as just a bad patch in a season, particularly since most losses have been at home. Something is seriously messed up with this team, even if it still is near the top in the division. A weekend in Diego with the suddenly tough Pads is probably not going to right this ship, even with Belt due back. The Sabes et al brain trust better be really going through alternatives, if with this depleted minor league system, there are any…
Fuck! Really? Giving them runs now?
I’m with whoever said blow this shit up. These guys are fucking pathetic.
Take Pence, Posey and Panda out of today’s lineup, and see what you’ve got left. That doesn’t inspire confidence. Throw in some bad defense and you’ve got another ugly game. Another “sellout” though, for sure…
You got the same thing. Bummie and Crawfish are the ones that drove in runs today.
Well, I said at the start today that by all rights Bum should hit 7th in today’s LU. There’s plenty of blame to go around, yeah, in this free fall. But, they can’t really count on getting many wins with a LU like today’s. That’s just not a real quality lineup…
If there’s some player leadership on this team, it’s about time that it made its presence known, one way or another…
Nice play Colvin. That’s your Giant Replay.
Kruk apparently taking today off for the long weekend. Too bad.
It would have been interesting to hear how he’d turn this turd of a game into a positive…
Yeah. Not too much to recommend . . . Game sucks quite frankly.
Responded back to your email.
Great tweet by Baggs:
“For reasons unclear to me, Arias is pinch hitting for Bumgarner.”
Hilarious. MacDog was right!!!!!!!!!!
Hicks is now 1 for his last 30, 0 for his last 21. Might I suggest a replacement? Scutaro in a back brace with epidural drip. Anybody?…
I’m in with that Snarkk!
Think I will mix up a Makers Maker and a shot of epidural just for Scoots..
I’d call that one a Bulging Bourbon or Kentucky Paralysis…
Well back to the weather channel.
Charlie (Uncle_Chuck), we don’t get hit every summer but the OBX is part of what they call Hurricane Alley. Hurricane season is June through November. Last year we didn’t have any named storms hit us, but this year the first named stormed (hurricane Arthur ) is hitting us dead on (if only they named the leadoff storm, Blanco it might have missed, just kidding). But yeah, we have done a bunch of work since Irene, and after raising our house 8 feet, I doubt we take a couple feet of water on in the house like we did during Irene.
Living along the Hurricane Belt is kinda like being a Giants fan, you pay the price and you get to ride the ride.
Matt, for the stopper tomorrow.
Good luck riding it out, Clown…
Thanks snarkk, we should be fine.
Catch y’all later.
Good luck, Bozo. Never lived down there but was near where you are once during a storm. I thought I’d seen storms……
Watching the Rocks and Bums. Just the 1st inning guys, but if you expect help from the Sherpas, forget it. First, they have Franklin Morales starting (again). If you recall, this guy was gasoline even before the bullpen came in . . . He was so bad, they sent him to Triple AAA. Fast forward today, the Sherpas HAVE NO ONE TO PITCH and consequently, Morales is back in the rotation. He just threw 26 pitches in the first. Ouch! By the by, the walking wounded that make up the Rocks, are really scraping the barrel insofar as starting pitching, e.g., all 5 starters are left handed. Yikes! The good news (hardly) is that Arenado returned this evening. Anywho, I will say in advance that the Rocks will probably fall apart . . . umm, final score of 9-6 in favor of the Bums. LOL. 🙂
Giants 6-14 in last two homestands.
19 runs scored in last 10 games. You can do the avg/game.
Can it get any worse?…
Hey, I’ve noticed that Flavor hasn’t posted since the beginning of this thread yesterday. I hope he hasn’t offed himself due to the Giants face planting the last 3 weeks . . . I jest, I jest! 🙂
These BBOTD’s aren’t working. We need some attitude. I think we should take this tough little fucker on the road:
http://tinyurl.com/nnj23jp
C’mon, Sherpas!!!!!!!!
Giants in 2nd place. Plan on staying there tomorrow as well (since Kershaw is pitching).
But still atop the wild-card standings!
Get used to it. Giants blew it. I hope the Dodgers do the same.
