I suppose it’s possible Gary Brown would actually do worse than this. But, at this point, I’d like to see him try. Brown must just want to go to another organization — if they won’t even try him out with this crap going on above him, then there’s no hope for him as a Giant. Gregor may be a nice dude, but seriously — this is astoundingly bad for an outfield position, let alone a guy that’s been in the leadoff spot a lot. How long are the Giants going to wait out Pagan? Giants must get somebody in here to get more offense out of their outfield other than Pence…

Blanco sucks ass at the plate (and most 4th and 5th OFers are probably not significantly better), but he is an above average defender. I haven’t looked at Brown’s numbes in a while, and having trouble doing so from work, but last I saw he wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire. No way he comes up before the rosters expand. They’ll keep him in a position to play every day and get 3-4 ABs.
Since the turn of the month Panik has gone 7 for 24 for a .292 average with 2 runs scored and 2 BB. I’m not saying he’s the next Robby Thompson but I’ve liked what I’ve seen on both ends for the most part. I hope they keep him around if Scutaro returns tomorrow.
Besides, have you seen all the Panik Attack signs at the park? I’m sure Baer senses the sweet aroma of marketing dollars.
dirt, I agree with ya on both points. Do you think Baer has already contemplated changing the name of one of the bars to Panik Attack Zone?
If Scutaro can function relatively well, the Giants could have a decent platoon at 2b, Scutaro and Panik.
Yeah I would stick with Panik as well Dirt. He could learn a lot from Scoots up here and still get plenty of AB’s since Scoots won’t be playing many back to back with his ailing back.
He’s approaching 100 ABs so I assume they’ll give him some more run. Agree with you on Scutaro. He’s going to go full Glass Sanchez with too much playing time. It would have been nice to have him off the bench last night as an alternative to Blanco when the bases were juiced and 1 out.
Well if Scoots doesn’t hold up( likely scenario) I wouldn’t mind going after Ben Zobrist,Tampa’s out of it so who knows what we could put together, besides he has a Smokin hot wife for the Flap to check out!
I suggested awhile back about going all in for both Zobrist and Price. Fuck the Farm, win now.
Yep…Blade and I were kicking the tires on Zobrist the other day. He can play multiple IF positions and also some OF. There is a team option on him for next year, so you could probably get him short term (a year or two).
Panik’s numbers still aren’t much better than Adrianza. No reason not to play him more often than not, but he’s mostly a singles hitter (2 doubles=total XBH in 50 ABs), and he only has enough of them as of last night to be hitting .234 and an OPS under .600.
Giants offensive numbers rank in NL over all according to B/R:
9th in runs scored.
12th in hits
3rd in HRs
11th in BA
12th in OB.
5th in slugging
8th in OPS
Interestingly, Pagan and Pence only guys over .300 and top 2 on team in OB.
Bench guys obviously drag over all numbers down but none of call ups were much improvement. Like to see Belt get rolling too, SF desperately needs it.
True enough. I see him as sort of a Scutaro type contact hitter with a good eye. Except he can bend his back and field a grounder.
Thanx for the insight, Flav. After Panik went 2 for 4 last night and was in the middle of plenty of scoring action i was wondering why the hell Hicks got the nod today. Like it’s a thank you for services rendered in April and May and then ~~ Sayonara!
With Hicks and Blanco batting 7 and 8 i can just envision Belt breaking out of it a bit today like three times on base and not scoring once.

Some contender out there jonesing for a shortstop and a bit long on outfielders? Look no further. Sabean is no Billy Beane, not quite hardly a riverboat gambler. Some GMs might go for it, though. Crawford ~ grew up a big Giants fan and all but business is business, right?
Why? Take a look at some stats from the pitching dominated Eastern League: 305 AB’s, 47 runs on 102 hits including 15 doubles, 4 triples and 3 dingers for 52 RBI’s. Guy has 36 walks to 57 strikeouts for a .399 OBP (a category where the Giants currently are piss-poor); a .439 SP (we’re talking a 23 Y.O. slender and lanky middle infielder here) resolved with a .334 BA and an .839 OPS. Currently Matt Duffy is tearing up the Eastern League with the bat. His 15 errors might be a tad high, but don’t know much about his overall defensive cred.
A speedy, quality center-fielder might be available. Would a probable defensive fall-off linked with a not unlikely offensive pickup at SS added to a nice segue in center and leadoff be worth such a deal? Again, i doubt whether such a maneuver is in Sabean’s M.O., but it does intrigue me.

The only thing left is to give up a hit to the pitcher who never bats.
This is the first of these games that I’ve sat down to watch, so I’m hoping for a good one.

I don’t have to “watch” the game (can’t see it now here on the east coast anyway) (just finished watching the Phils sweep the Brewers with my 97 year old Dad) or even follow it; I can tell how it’s going by reading the real-time streaming comments here. It sort of reads like one of those old Batman TV shows: “Pow! Fuck! Bam! Shit! Pfft! Damn! Fuck me!” ……. You guys are too funny. Unfortunately, losing is not. The team needs to stop worrying about winning, because that obviously doesn’t work. The players just need to come out every game and do their jobs. Kinda like they were doing earlier in the year. It’s a clean slate, tied for first almost at the break. And if Sabean thinks he can find someone who can do a better job in the next few weeks, pull the fucking trigger. Still a long way to go. We’re probably going to see about 4 mini-seasons within this one season. Already seen 2….

This team is just off in the ozone somewhere. After a month or more of this “fetid” play for all phases of the game, how much longer must we see this crap before it’s time to blow it up? I would argue a good team just doesn’t crater for 5 weeks like this, it’s not some short term deal. I don’t see any downside in making serious changes, especially if they benefit this year’s 25 man and/or the farm system…
A’s have Abad pitcher. Giants have a bad team.
Snarkk, define blow up? The only parts I see “blowing up” are Pablo and our two injured guys, Pagan and Scutaro.
– Hudson has a club friendly contract and he has already paid season dividends for a half season.
– Morse has a minimal contract and similar to Hudson has already paid dividends.
– Craw can hit lefties now.
– Belt is the closest to untouchable we have in my mind.
– Posey is one of the best catchers in the game (way less worth at 3rd and 1st, which has been suggested here).
– Pence is awesome, so he stays.
– Our pitching rotation has been pitching great as of late.
– Bench sucks, but they have been forced into starting positions. Besides, what are they worth?
– Relief corps has done well overall. Sergio would have the most trade value.
So again, who goes? What gets blown up?
I start with Bam Bam. And why not? Maybe it sends a message to the team: “Hey, look, your lousy hitting got Bam Bam fired.” Maybe the team wakes up a little.
I offered that last year during that cratering. They hit like crazy through his May. He was a genius then. I don’t like anybody to lose a job, but hey, it’s done all the time. Probably won’t help; but can’t fire the whole team…
I’ve offered Panda and Romo before as blow up potential. Unfortunately, they essentially need to replace the entire bench. I’d leave starters alone…
